I'm over 2 years out and even when I'm being careful I can get stuck. I am pretty tight, but I can eat something one week and get stuck on it the next. I've even gotten stuck on Wendy's chili. I've gotten better at figuring portion sizes, and have figured out that I do better when I eat 5 small meals a day (some of them just one item, like Greek yogurt).

How Do You Manage To Get Enought Protein In During Your Liquid And Soft Food Diet Stage After Surgery?
circa commented on kcmabee's blog entry in kcmabee's Blog
protein shakes help and I found the progresso soups -especially in full liquid stage are great - they actually have quite a bit of protein - I just pureed them and was good to go I was honestly surprised that I was meeting my protein for the day. I get about 80 grams a day. Kinda shocked me. Yogurt Higher Protein Soups add a little shredded cheese too and let it melt then puree Protein Drinks It starts to add up -
Needing some encouragement
nomorejellybelly replied to Butterfly24's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Butterly24, hang in there. I think a lot of us have been there also. I know I have. My suggestion would be to try drinking more Water before you eat. Eat items with more Protein and/or Fiber. Eat really slow too. Also, a favorite Breakfast of mine is 1/2 a cup of plain low-fat yogurt, 1 spoonful (about a tablespoon) of orange marmalade for a little sweetness, and a 1/2 to 1 full serving of a high fiber Cereal. Sometimes I add a few little mini chocolate chips or shopped walnuts and sometimes I do a different cereal, like one with flakes, almonds, 'yogurt' clusters, cranberries/raisins. I know when I have used the all-bran fiber buds, I only use about a 1/2 serving, because it would be too filling on a full serving. Anyhow, it's been something that I enjoyed eating and you can change up the ingredients. Anyhow, I told you this, because when I eat this breakfast especially, I have to eat slow. But the best part is it's fairly low cal and I usually work it off in the gym. Hang in there. Don't give up. -
Struggling truck driver post op
FrankyG replied to LadiiReignBeau's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Can't stop off at a WalMart that has a grocery? They are usually near freeways, HUGE parking lots where you can park a semi or large truck for a few minutes - just park it a bit away and get some walking in to boot. Check out the deli counter and surrounding area where you could get meats, chicken salad, or Soups. There is also lots of small containers of yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese sticks... Any IHOP, Cracker Barrel, or Denny's restaurant can do up some scrambled eggs with cheese (and later sausage/bacon). I ate that for Breakfast and lunch. And most of those places serve soups too. And definitely pack a cooler or fridge installed if you'd like to save money or time. Love the idea of getting a small one that runs off of the truck's electrical. -
Full Fat Mayo, cottage cheese, and yogurt
FLHappyGirl replied to Nancy MBGC's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I eat full fat cottage cheese, mayo, ricotta, etc. I stick to greek yogurt. The low fat versions typically have more carbs and don't taste good. Based on the small amount I eat it has never been a concern. -
Greek Yogurt making me burp....anyone else?
remzel posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had a taste for yogurt before, especially greek yogurt but as it's such a great source of Protein, an easy meal and can be a great vessel - I figured I'd give it a try for lunch today. I got the Fage total 0% with Honey. I dont want all the sugars from the honey, but I figured it would be a good way to ease into the yogurt since it helps mask the flavor. I've had a few bites and now I'm burping like crazy and keep feeling the gas bubbles rise up [and of course, I'm at work where this looks/sounds even better]. Anyone else experience this? Did it go away over time or did you cut out yogurt? I know my sleeve might not like everything, but yogurt just seems too good of an option to give up right away. Thoughts/suggestions? -
How does anyone feel about smoothies in the full liquid stage. They use froz yogurt peanut butter and fat free milk. Its what I drank most of when i had braces and I love them. A small is 12 oz

What if I can't 'do' puree?
RubberTrampRyan replied to Smile!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yuck. Puree stage is horrible. I have to do it for 3 weeks, i'm 2 weeks in. I drink 2 Bariatric Fusion shakes with 8oz of Lactaid which gives me my minimum protein requirement. Throughout the day I'll have 1/4 cup scrambled eggs, a 6oz Yoplait Light yogurt cup, a 100 calorie Healthy Choice greek froyo cup, and 60 Gerber Lil' Crunchies snacks, and at least 32oz of Crystal Light. I get all my liquids and about 80g of protein, right around 800 calories a day. It sucks and I'm dying for some chicken salad or stringcheese, but beats putting turkey, potatoes, gravy, etc. in a blender... -
Not wanting to go to next phase
gomekast replied to ualaw08's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was the same way. My nurses didnt blame me and said it was not a big deal. I did what another poster said and took my time. If I wanted to try puree chicken I did..but stuck with the yogurts and shakes. Now, 3 months post op, I have a tiny sleeve that doesn't allow for much. I like it that way too. -
How to Start Meal Prepping After Bariatric Surgery
MargoCL replied to Kristin Willard, RDN's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
For me personally, meal prepping doesn't work since WLS. I buy items that are pretty much perfectly packaged and sized out (chicken salad, tuna creations, hummus, guacamole, yogurt) so I'm not "wasting" so much food. Additionally I don't have extra space to meal prep and freeze. It may be slightly higher in cost, but the convenience and hassle of trying to find storage in already a small area makes it worth it. Unless it's leftovers from the day before, I find that it's much easier to cook daily for my family and not spend the weekends prepping for the week. -
Khrissy....I had mine done at TLBC as well and had to do a 2 week pre-op diet. Frozen yogurt was definitely out of the question!!! But if you want a "concrete" answer, call or e-mail Nisrine and run it by her!!!! You're almost there.....don't give up!

I am right there with you guys. I had a fill last Monday and it seems like I can't eat anything. This is really wierd but I can tolerate crunchy things better than soft things. I can tolerate yogurt though. I have been wondering if I am too tight but I don't feel bad all of the time and not everything gets stuck so I am hoping it will just level itself out soon. I haven't really known restriction until now I don't think so I am figuring it is just me...

I am presently using organic soy milk, as it has a lot more protein than almond or cashew milk. Soy products (milk, yogurt, tofu, tempeh) do not seem to bother me. Which plant based protein powders have you found to be palatable in smoothies and yogurt? I've tried several, but all have stevia. OWYN brand has cane sugar, but seems to be the most pure of all of them, but I haven't tried it yet.

Oh my, last night one of my pills got stuck in my esophagus. It's never happened in the whole month following surgery. I had waves of pains then ended up vomiting all the water i used to get it down. I went to bed and woke up and still felt it stuck, but without the pain. I drank 2 cups of hot tea without difficulty, ate my yogurt, but still feel as though something might still be there, like a burning feeling almost. It's at the bottom of my esophagus. Anyone ever experience this? When will the feeling go away?

am I slipping??
Shamrockgirl60 replied to KayleighsMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good to know this stuff, I keep reading my paperwork, it's almost as big as a book by now about when and how to eat. For soft foods, cottage cheese, yogurt, scrambled eggs or eggbeaters, cream of wheat, white tuna, blended with some low fat low cal mayo and some onion and celery powder. Make it nice and mushy and take small bites. Can do the same with chicken. I love humus and a little of that would be nice. When yo can eat more you can have small amounts of pita bread they say you can tolerate that more than regular bread, not as likely to swell up. pureed fruit is good too with no sugar or syrup, use Spenda to make it sweeter and a little Water. Also puree Soups to a soft mush. Just a few ideas hope it helps -
2 Week Pre Op Diet
Nicki D replied to nancylovescats's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein drinks 60 grams protein, greek yogurt 14 grams protein, 4 ounces fruit juice, low sodium broth, unlimited sugar free Jello, unlimited sugar free popsicles, Water, decaf tea or coffee. I didn't like most of the greek yogurts Fage was one I could tolerate, I would add my fruit juice to the yogurt and it tasted better that way. This worked for me and I lost 15 pounds on it. -
It is confusing to try to eat high Protein, low fat, and low carb. What you basically need to do is eat very lean meats, like chicken, fish, and very lean beef occasionally, but not often. Beef is higher in fat than other meats. Shrimp is very high in protein, but lots of cholesterol if you have a problem with that. The shrimp need to be boiled, grilled, etc. If you sautee them in butter, that will make them high fat to. You also can eat salmon, but in moderation due to it having a higher fat level as well. meat and lentils are very high in protein. That's how you do the high protein low fat part. I agree that the low carb is the hardest to follow, so you have to really learn to read labels. For example, Hidden Valley Ranch Buttermilk dressing has fewer carbs in it than any other brand of salad dressing. Trust me, I've checked them all that are available in my area. Most canned and raw vegetables are very low carb, but you have to cut out ALL white flour products, potatoes, corn, carrots, and beets. Sweet potatoes are also full of carbs. Most fruits are good, but there are a few that spike your sugar levels. These are pineapple, bananas, and watermelon, which are my favorite fruits. But, I have to avoid them all together because I'm now diabetic. Things like low fat sour cream and yogurt are very high in carbs, so if you are going to have them, you are better off with regular sour cream, but there are a few brands of yogurt that are low carb. Again, you have to read the labels on everything. A typical meal for me would consist of a chicken breast, either baked or grilled, yellow and zucchini squash with onions sauteed with a tiny bit of extra virgin olive oil, and salad with the Hidden Valley Ranch dressing. Other veggies and meats were used as well, that's just a good example of a meal that fits all of the catagories. My cardiologist told me not to eat things like bacon, sausage, or lots of cheese high in fat. String cheese is very low fat, for example. He said to drink whey Protein shakes made with fruit or fruit juice, ice, Water, and splenda mixed in the blender. They are yummy if you make them right. However, I have to add that this diet was not with a band, so the Breakfast would have to changed, but I think most of the other foods would be allowed in small quantities. It would depend on the person and what foods they can tolerate with the band. I also ate no bread, Pasta, rice, or anything like that. Cool Whip free is also a great alternative to the whipped cream. I've also read several posts that talk about the South Beach diet. Has anyone ever read the Suzanne Somers diet books? Her philosophy is the combinations of foods eaten together. I've done it before with success, but as usual, I gained it all back when I started adding the carbs in. I hope this explanation helps you with your food purchases. Again, read read read the labels and you will discover which foods are low carb and the ones that aren't. The carbs in most veggies are minimal and you can have them. Sorry this is so lengthy, but I tend to rattle. LOL

Hello... my name is Jessica and I have been where you are. I've been banded 4 yrs now, and with the help of a nutirtionist, I have learned ways to maintain my weight and lose the weight. I'm a Health and Wellness Consultant and Independent Distributor for It Works. First, I want to say that for a 6'2, 33yr old man, you must have more calories. Calories are not always bad for you. You are young enough where you should be burning around 600-800 calories during a workout. If you are only eating around 1000 calories, your body has nothing to burn. A lot of WLS patients (including myself in the beginning) focus on counting calories because that what our Dr tells us. Well, thats not true. Yes, you should not be eating 2500 calories a day but for your weight and height, you should not consume less than 1500-1600 calories a day. Healthy calories is what you want. You need to shock your body to get it out of the same old routine. When our body gets used to eating the same thing, exercising at the same pace, and feeling the same; you get the same results. You can use supplements like your Vitamins, fat burners, and metabolism booster to help shock your body. Of course, make sure they are 100% natural. My products are 100% plant-based if interested. http://www.showstopperwraps.myitworks.com/shop/category/#57 Here is how you can shock your body. These are different foods you can eat for your meals. Morning take a whole food complex Multivitamins, Minerals, & Omega3, Thermofit (metabolism booster) and Greens (8 servings of fruit & veggies) go for a run before Breakfast (cardio) eat a high Protein breakfast (veggie omlete, Protein shake, or oatmeal) whole grain english muffin ham or Canadian ham yogurt & granola egg quesadilla Snack almonds (great for burning belly fat) berries, apples, banana protein shake yogurt smoothie lunch Take another Thermofit (metabolism booster) salad with protein (chicken, fish, steak) make it very colorful Turkey and provolone sandwich on whole grain grilled chicken breast sandwich on whole grain veggie Soup tuna salad dinner Take a Fat Fighter during heavy meals weight lift before dinner sweet potatoe (smart balance & cinnamon) fish, chicken, pork loin (grilled broiled, baked) veggies whole wheat Pasta Brown Rice roasted potatoes Take a Fat Fighter during heavy meals snack Popcorn Yogurt cottage cheese w/ fruit sugar free pudding/Jell-o **** Drink lots of water!!!!

I had my surgery on 6/18, I've lost 1 pound a day. Total as of today that I am two weeks post op 14lb. It may not seem much but I'm happy with slow weight loss. I am hypothyroid ( hashi mottos). It's hard for me to lose any weight so this is the main reason I got the surgery. It's really hard for me to avoid solids. I drink 8 oz of drinkable kefir yogurt each morning and drink 4oz protein shake. However I'll munch on whole grain crackers about 6 of them. Yesterday I ate little bit of rice. I want real food, my doc has me on the purée stage and I don't like it one bit. I have no will power How can I continue without cheating?
