when can I eat food again?
kerri76 replied to Stacey627's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As much as I can't wait to eat something solid again....I am scared to try something solid. I will get to start puree next week. That will be nice. But what the heck should I eat? I am dying for an egg! Is it possible to puree an egg? -
haha thank you! I'm still not confident enough with my legs... I go to the YMCA almost 5 days a week depending on my daughters schedule... I'm starting to get alot of saggy skin in my lower stomach and arms... of course the chest too! But that is all fixable as my husband tells me I traded one addiction for another I love to run now and if I don't I fill like I'm letting myself down... I NEVER ran before and I can only run for 30mins at a time but it will progress... I also do weights because I want to minimize the skin if I can... Your doing great also!

when can I eat food again?
Sunshine79 replied to Stacey627's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
6 weeks post-op on liquids only? I think I would go crazy!!! My doc says the progression is usually liquids for the first week, mushies in week 2, soft foods in week 3 and hopefully normal food by week 4. Of course that's all dependent on how you're handling the food. If it makes you sick then you're not ready for the next stage. You can also call and ask them post-op, my co-worker was miserable after 5 days of liquid and said she was so irritable she might have to kill her husband (jokingly of course) and the doctor's office said it was fine to move on. And yes, you should find all this out at your pre-op or nutritionist consult. -
My advice is to keep a food and exercise journal for a week or so. If you have the facts in front of you, it's easier to determine where you may be slipping up. Then, take that information with you to your surgeon and/or your nutrionist. They can help you get back on track. Good luck!

How is it compareable to C-Section pain?
ElfiePoo replied to JaimeMarie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a c-section at midnight and was out of bed at 10 a.m. that morning and walking down to the nursery. I was back at work a little over 2 weeks later (teaching elementary school). Lap band surgery one morning, back to work half day the next day and then full-time after that. On a scale of 1 to 10 for pain....c-section was about a 6....lapband 1. Pain may be too strong of a word. It was more an uncomfortableness. I never filled my pain meds. Now, talk to me about paper cuts though. Those are a 10. . -

I took some clothes to the tailor last week and I asked her to take them in fairly tight....she said, "what if you gain weight again?" I said, well, I don't think that will happen and in fact, I'll probably lost 5 to 10 more.....such a nice feeling. Oh, and I reached the top range of my goal weight yesterday! -

Starting my 2week protein pre op on wed...so nervous!
Pescador replied to Sherbear2's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Relax and stay busy. The fear of the unknown is what is scary. At age 66, I felt so great I honestly wondered if they really did anything to me. I spent about 8 hours in the hospital, before and after, the sleeve took 30 minutes total, I took ONE pain pill at home, was shopping and walking four days later, and felt like a million dollars with hope for the future. Everyone hates the two week before and after foods, but we all did it, and seriously it's like getting our pacifier taken away when we can't eat what we want. After surgery you 88042971I'll be able to eat anything and everything. It is your choice. You just cannot eat as much! Best of luck. -
I am a 35 year old mom of 6 that went to Juarez 3 weeks ago to get the sleeve surgery done. I went to Star medica with Dr. Rodriguez. It has been a roll a coaster ride for me. I love the fact that I have taken control but I am still learning quit a bit. If you have any feed back it would be nice to hear from other that are going through the same thing. I can truely say I am Happy.:001_rolleyes:

Hi not sure if you'd get denied, I guess it all depends on your insurance. My insurance just told me I have to gain weight by the 1st of march because my bmi is under 50 and my insurance will deny me. I have been eating high carbs since last week I'm just hoping I've gained, I really can't tell.

Newbie to Vertical Sleeve Website!!
MistyB replied to ShyL8y's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am 17 days post op and I deal with hunger. Although, I must say that 3 or 4 bites of something and I am full. I want to move a little quicker with the things that I eat and I do. I just see how some of the other people on here were able to have mushies on their 3rd day post op. I am on the mushy stage and I struggle with what to eat. I can not have meat yet. I made a cauiflower Soup and mashed cauiflower (like potatoes...less carbs). It was good, by 2 days of eatng that and I am bored. I also made 15 bean soup in my crock pot and cooked it all day so it's mushy. Then I added alittle bit of greek yogurt to it and that was good. I get about 40 grams of Protein a day, but I need to get more in. I HATE protein shakes! They all taste yucky.....but I have to get them down. I get about 2 down a day....not enough. What are you eating in a day? Fluids, Protein shakes, Soups??? I am struggling with some heart burn and that sucks too. Good luck! We will be eating more foods each week. I do too cheat. I've had some hersey kisses...maybe 4 since surgery...bad I know, but I'm getting sick of pudding -
Did I Expect Too Much?
readytogoforit replied to TerryNewt's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
she brought up a really good point. she does not have lots of loose skin, that's because the weight left at a slow and steady pace. that really good! My weight loss has slowed to 1 or 2 lbs a week also. I try to reassure myself everyday!! I know I would not be down 57 lbs on my own, that's a fact. don't compare yourself to others just keep going. when the blues hit distract yourself - walk, exercise, do for others, clean anything. I used to lay in the bottom of a pity bag. I did it for years!! I don't want to be down there anymore, not ever again. I will be patient, I will keep working on this oh so important goal. why, because I am worth it! God didn't make no junk... -
I Changed My Name
#MagicWithinme replied to #MagicWithinme's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I just needed to vent, It is a day by day struggle. and as my hubby has said, I had two surgeries back to back my body is still trying to get back to its normalcy. (gallbladder/lapband) hard to believe it will be 6 weeks already , I want to be one of those that are happy they got the lapband and can really start enjoying life and the lapband be part of it , instead of being something foreign for now. -
I'm so happy. After being overweight my entire life, I've finally taken this big step. I just had my 2 week visit after banding (2 1/2 weeks) and I lost 12 lbs. I've noticed that I can eat more and am trying very hard to stay on task until I get my fist fill at 6 weeks. I'm very excited and pleased so far.

Change in workout routine pre and post surgery??
Unforgettable replied to chatty826's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Right after surgery when I was lacking energy, I walked my butt off. My doc doesn't want any hardcore working out until 8 weeks post-op, so in the meantime I walked and fiddled around with Wii Fit/EA Active. After 8 weeks he has no restrictions so I'll go back to normal like before surgery. Every doc is different though -
pre op required tests
DownInSocal replied to Timetofly's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chest X ray Tons of blood work Urine test for nicotine and to see if I was preggers. I got this test like 3 times before surgery. EKG Take home EKG pack that tracked my heart rate for 24 hours Echocardiogram sleep apnea test Tests on my lung function, peak flow and such. Barium swallow Psych Consult Nutrition Consult Oh almost forgot the ultrasound. They looked at everything in my abdomen. Found a cyst on my liver, no big deal but having them poke at it hurt like a.......nevermind. I also had to go to two classes, one about surgery and one about nutrition. I would have needed a pap smear but mine was 3 weeks before my consult so I was good to go. Every single test was worth it. I would do it all over again ten times if needed. -
Hi there! I’m 7 weeks post op sleeve and I had a hiatal hernia repair at the same time. I am still getting quite a bit of daily nausea and discomfort when eating no matter how little or slow I eat. Has anyone had a similar experience and when did it get better? Thank you!

Holy protein Batman! 50 lbs in 5 weeks! You better drink up for sure.
-
You were banded not quite 2 weeks ago, correct? In that case, I really wouldn't worry too much about what you lose (or don't) till you have had your first fill. In the first 4 to 6 weeks we should really concentrate on healing. Any weight you do lose before your first fill is a bonus, really. But at 2 weeks out, and 12lbs down, I think you are doing really well. Congratulations!

Did I Expect Too Much?
Timoniumroady replied to TerryNewt's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded 9/1/11 and I feel the same way you all do. I'm down a little of 40 since surgery and don't get me wrong, I am happy about that. But right now I have been stuck at 215 for the past two weeks. It gets discouraging sometime. -
How is losing 13 pounds in a month considered not losing weight? Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

At a week out, we were allowed to eat cream of wheat, oatmeal, yogurt and strained cream soup. I have a feeling when you get to the next stage, you'll feel better. Hang in there! PS...if you cheat again...and you shouldn't! But if you do? Don't eat something bizarre like cheetos....eat something you're allowed to eat on the next phase of your diet.
