    am I in track

So am 7 week out of surgery and I just lost 32 ponds...is this normal or is me... I did not lose no wait before surgery ...whats going on with me...an I go to the gym 4 times a week. ..
  2. -52lbs in 11 weeks! I have slowed down a little is that normal?
  3. Hello, all! I am getting ready to schedule my surgery for sometime in October. I started my "journey" (actually feels a lot like the road to Hell!) in May, 2005. It took a long time for my insurance company to finally deny me for surgery. I will be going to the Mid-West Institute of Bariatric Surgery (Lenexa, Ks.) next week to make my appt. with Dr. Jessie Lopez. Does anyone have any experience with this Doctor or his office? So far, I have had a lot of trouble getting them to return my phone calls when I was trying to make the appt. I will be paying for the surgery on my own---it seems like a LOT of money! BTW-I am 215lbs., 5'4', hoping to get to 130.
  4. So I am at my 5 week mark and the lbs have been coming off like clockwork, until last week that is. Started at 371, surgery at 330, down to 290 last week, now I have stalled and even gained a pound or two back. I'm starting to freak a little because of it. I just recently went back to actual food, but I eat protein first then veggies, rarely any fat (no fried food or anything). I exercise and walk, although stress over the past week from work is causing sleeping probs. I don't want to see that scale go the wrong way. Any advice?

One month and noticing a slow down

Are you making your protein and fluid goals? It's really important to get in the prescribed amounts of both. Many people experience a stall at the 3 week mark or so. Your body is just trying to adjust to everything that's happened to it. Keep plugging away and I'm sure it will pick back up. After a loss, my body fluctuates up and down for a few days and then I lose another couple of pounds. I definitely never lose any weight the day after a good workout. I've learned to go with the flow!

    Did You Have An Egd?

I just had one done two weeks ago and it was painless!! All I remember is the same thing as liberated sleeve. They put something in my mouth to protect my teeth and next thing you know I was waking up and it was all done. You will be fine!

    No Weight Loss Day

It totally normal. I have the same thing happen to me. Drop consistently then stall for a day or two. No big deal. Focus on your hydration first and foremost. If you are being brutally honest with yourself and following your doctors plan then trust the process.

    Soap taste?

I am to be sleeved on October 9th. I attend support groups weekly. This topic was actually just mentioned on Thursday. Some people who have had the surgery already that were there said everything taste the same, others reported mild changes, and some gave examples of when they first got it done that for a week or two everything, for some even water tasted odd. Some said like sand, some said copper, and yes someone said soap. I wouldn't worry, but if u want that extra relief just call your doc to confirm. Best of luck and please send updates. Will be sleeved by doctor Singe at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY on October 9th.
  11. It's very early in the morning of day three and I am so glad to begin feeling human again. I'm experiencing minimal gas and side pain and making sure that I balance rest with walking. I'm have the most difficulty remembering to sip! Per my Doc's orders, I will begin introducing Protein shakes today and hope for the best. I do hope all my fellow 9/7 Sleevers are doing well. Have a blessed day everyone.

    Weight Loss Seminar

The entry point for me was to attend an informational seminar. Then make an appt with the surgeon. My insurance required 6 months of dietary supervision by my PCP. Meanwhile, I was required to have an endoscopy, cardiac clearance, a psych eval, lab draw, and nutritional consult. Ended up getting a sleep study as well, which determined that I had severe sleep apnea and this increased my co-morbidity risk factor. The week before surgery, there was another required seminar by the hospital to inform of the surgical and recovery processes. Then surgery, post op followup at 2 weeks, I think. Then 2, 4, 6, 8, 12 months. Then every year for 5 years. Labs done at 6 months, 12 months, and yearly.
  13. Ok gotta start my Pre-op Next Week!!! I have to follow a low carb/high protein diet for 2-3 weeks prior to surgery which will be on Aug 26th, has anyone done a low carb/high protein diet? is it easy, expensive hard to follow??? i really wanna do this right since i am self pay i dont wanna waste my precious $$$ i have purchased protein drinks low carb bread for sandwiches what else should i make any and all comments greatly appreciated
  14. So far 90 in 10 months... Stalling is normal, i am stalling now for the past 3 weeks its normal... I been thru plenty of times... But then u loose them fast... Dont worry, i know is hard... But its normal

    Weight loss?

I would say first off you aren't eating enough and you aren't meeting Protein goals. I would add at a minimum an afternoon snack something like yogurt with a bit of fruit and a tsp of flax or wheat germ sprinkled on top would also address the constipation issues you previously mentioned. I would look into something like the the Isopure nocarb drinks or Syntrax nectar to help increase your protein and Fluid intake. I would also try walking for at least 15 - 20 minutes a day. Exercise helps jump start your metabolism and appetite. I would also call the doctor. Still having trouble eating at 8 weeks out is not a good thing. ETA: If you can tolerate it. I would even add a tiny bit of spinach to that 1 egg. Spinach had Vitamin A, K, folate, Fiber, Iron and protein. I would also add a tiny bit of Protein powder to the the afternoon yogurt. That would increase your protein intake.
  16. For those that did the 1 week liquid diet prior to surgery, how much weight did you loose during that week? I'm concerned about my BMI getting too low, so I'm curious! ????. Thanks!
  17. Hi Dionalyne! I was banded on 12/20 as well. Got my first fill on 1/11 and my next one is next week. I'm curious about how much food you can eat. I keep hearing about how your only supposed to eat half a cup but I can eat much more than that maybe that will come after the 4th or 5th fill but right now my weight is at a stand still in fact I've gained the last 2 weeks. I do seem to stay full longer so that's good but still. How much have you lost? Since my pre-op diet until now I have lost 37.

  20. My RNY Gastric Bypass Surgery My name is Carla! I live in NJ I'm a 35 year old married mother of two. My weight loss journey started in March 2008. My son was one year old and I decided I no longer wanted to live my 300lb unhealthy lifestyle! I wanted to live to be able to see my Son grow and I wanted to be able to play with him and not watch from the side lines. I had my gastric bypass surgery Sept 15 2008. After the usual Two days in the hospital I was feeling good and diacharged. Only to return to the hospital at 4am in severe pain. I had a leak. Had to do another surgery and recovery was very painful I stayed in the hospital for three weeks. With that being said I would do it all over again. I reached my goal weight of 160lbs within the year. I maintained this weight for 5 years I was a stay at home Mom back then and I worked out full time. 6 or 7 days a week 1 1/2 -2 hours a day! I was determined to make all of my pain purpose full. But as life happened I creeped up to 180lbs and plateau there for months until I got pregnant with my daughter. My weight went up to 230lbs on my date of delivery. With some light exercise, ppd, and anxiety my weight toggled between. 215and 230 until one morning I woke up and the scale said 240! I almost died. I did not come So far to just become morbidly obese again. So on June 1 2016 I began hitting the gym hard again! It's not easy working full time. Caring for my 8year old and 2 year old. And still finding the energy to work out like I used to. But I am motivated to get my old self back. So I have been drinking 2 meals and eating one meal daily for the past week. I have my restriction back! And I'm ready to reach my goals! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    New From Alabama....HELLO!!!

Welcome and congrats on the band Dzynr. I wish you luck on your journey. I am glad you are learning from our post. Yes patience is definatly key. You have lost 38 lbs! That is awesome in such a short time.A lot of Dr.s think 1-3 lbs a week is good. You have exceeded that! Be proud in the amount you have lost so far. As many has said we don't gain overnight and we won't lose it overnight. So be patient.

    Sleeve weight loss

Adding to what Babbs has said, some don't lose any the first couple of weeks (could be water weight...), so don't be surprised if this happens to you. It WILL come off, if you follow your prescribed plan. All the best to you.....
  24. okay I had to come back to this thread. You havent even been banded a month yet are you even eating solid food yet? Is drinking for your birthday that important? Why didnt you wait to have surgery after you got banded? I dont think drinking this soon after surgery would be a good reccomendation maybe in six months but not at three weeks post op

    feeling fat?

Have you made any other changes with the way you treat your body besides dietary changes? Because I think you have to find a way to love and appreciate your body and weight loss alone might not be the key for you. When you look in the mirror you're still seeing your low body image and not what's really there. I'm definitely still fat (you're really not but that's not the point) but when I look in the mirror or think about my body now, that's not my focus at all. For me, I made some other changes in the way I treat my body that made a difference in how I feel and how I see myself. I work out a lot more now, six days a week. And not just to speed weight loss but to make my body stronger and up endurance. And my body is stronger! I can dance for a long time and run and jump. My God I even tried to twerk the other day (in the privacy of my own home, and I fell over anyway but I did try). My legs have gotten bigger and my gut still flops about. I set up my trampoline in front of the mirror and let my gut hang free the other day. At first it was uncomfortable looking, then funny, then I was proud to see it fly! The point is I am really liking what my body does for me and I love being able to feel the changes. Another way to learn to appreciate the body is through fashion and dressing it up. Experimenting more with makeup, shoes, clothes, accessories, hair. The body can really make a fashion statement and the smaller we get the more access we have to great, inexpensive stuff that can really make us into walking works of art. I am not a fashion maven and you may already be, but that's another angle. I love the way my legs look and I wear hot pants and dresses because I just like looking at them so much (sorry if vain). My legs are still big especially since they're more muscular and I could look at my thigh jiggle "fat" or I could love the way I look in tights. I can choose the latter. ANOTHER avenue for increased body appreciation: taking care of all those niggling health problems and concerns that maybe got short shrift when you were bigger. It's all about taking care of yourself, emphasis on "care". Self-care is something so many big people neglect and often because we're told our bodies are wrong and worthless and doctors often focus on the fat. I'm not arguing whether fat is healthy or not, but you're in a better position to get quality healthcare once you lose weight and you've lost a heckuva lot. The better you feel health-wise, whether you had serious illnesses or were generally ok, the more you can appreciate your body. This can be head to toe. Migraines been bothering you, allergies, old injuries, teeth need a checkup, is it time for reading glasses and what's with that pop in the right knee? Whatever it is give it some proper attention.
