What are you eating?
katonaboat replied to PrettyGal27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on regular foods, surgery was June 12th. I'm still eating mostly protein, because once I get my protein in I don't have room for much else. For example, I made a low-carb meatloaf the other night and was able to eat 2.5 oz of meatloaf and less than a tablespoon of greenbeans. My husband had a couple of friends over to work on his boat last night (men's garage party) and I ordered pizzas. I pulled the toppings off 2 slices, but couldn't finish. My weight loss has slowed to 2-3lbs a week. It seems like those who were under orders to stay on liquids longer lose weight more quickly. I kind of wish I had been in that group, but once on solid food, I don't want to go back to full liquids! My favorite snack is a babybel cheese. I still have trouble getting my water in, but I have always struggled with fluid intake. I think I'm just not as thirsty as normal people! -

Is This Working ?
frumpynomore replied to marlenin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing great!!! Yes, you lose the most weight in the beginning stages but the beginning stage is about the first 3 months. I started to lose more when I increased my calories. I know it's a scary thing to do but it really does work. You have to keep your metabolism up to burn calories so if you're not eating enough you won't lose as much. Don't sweat it....just keep your eyes on your goal and it will happen! -
No Weight Loss 2 Months Post Op?!
msshep7 replied to lgm217's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
know what you mean but I haven't gotten my journey on the near straight and narrow yet. I have had only one fill. 1cc. in a 11cc band. I still love the band because I haven't gained any weight. Day 48 -15 lbs including pre op diet. I am going to keep trying. Drink my Water count calories exercise get Protein We can do this. No I haven't been perfect but I do know my shortfalls. It is all about me, I can do better. Must luck to both of us. -
I haven't lost enough weight to make a difference, but I have noticed differences in the way I react to medication. Has anyone else experienced this? Some seem to be much stronger, especially pain or migraine (Axert, Maxalt). Things that used to make me sleepy now keep me awake and the opposite.

Everyone looses the weight at a different rate but the main thing is people should be proud of even the smallest amount of weight lose as its an achievement that may not have occured without the band. I had my op on 9/3/07... Lost 3kg on pre-op diet and now 5kg in the past 2 week liquid diet phase.

Good morning guys, Just wanted to let you know I'm scheduled to go in this morning for the Lap surgery. My date was originally scheduled for April 3, but my doctor had to re-schedule so I am going in today at 9 am. I am worried and excited however, I am determined to make this healthy lifestyle change. My family and friends are just as excited as I am about this new transition. I started at 273lbs. and I weighed in last week at 268. No serious pre-op just eating light for a week and a half. My goal weight is 165-170. I am 5ft. 8.5 inches tall. Stay focused! Band-tastic

Good bye - this time its FOREVER! 4/23/08
tonya66 posted a blog entry in Sunshine2's (Tonya's) Journal
Good bye to the 180's, and this time, it is forever! You are not coming back into my life EVER again! I weighed this morning and dropped out of the 180's and into the 170's. I've been here before, and gained back up to the 180's but this time, never again! It felt soooo good to see the 179 this morning, I'm so happy to be back into the 170's. I'm hoping to get back into the 160's soon! Exercise my friends is the key! I'm convinced more than ever. Speaking of exercise, I had a great workout last night. I was sweaten' like a whore in church on Sunday morning! It felt so good to sweat and I felt like I really was buring the calories. Menu today - Bfast - protein shake, made with skim milk, 1 scoop of vanila whey protein powder, 2 strawberries and 1/3 of a banana and some raw oatmeal. YUM. Lunch - going out for lunch today with some friends, so not sure but I like the scale moving down, so you can bet it will be healthy! Dinner - Exercise -
Yep, definitely and totally normal! You are still recovering from surgery so this is healing time, not weight loss time. Hard as it may be, have patience, follow your dr's orders and the results will come. Best of luck.

pranayama
hopeful2 be slim replied to hopeful2 be slim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
thanks friends!!!pranyama helps in weight loss, arthritis and many other problems..it has miraculous healing strength.kapal bhati is one type where u only exhale fast. I thought since a portion of the band is tied up...but maybe its ok... -
I'm stuck too, same 4 pounds for 3 weeks. So I upped my Calories, carbs, cardio but lowered my strength training to 2 days a week. Was told by a few people we hold onto our weight when lifting weights. This is my first stall in 4 months so I'm ok with it. I have lost 65 and have 88 more pounds till I get to goal.

What I'm looking forward to the most..
Bardy replied to krasc001's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I hear you sister -- I definitely am looking forward to feeling better about myself, increased confidence, and a return of my personality -- also meeting men ... you are not alone and it isn't silly -- that is one of the definite benefits of losing the weight -- to feel good and sexy again! I also understand about not telling everyone - I think that is wise -- just your very closest friends/family for support - no one else needs to know until you are ready to tell them. Some tend to judge and we don't need that - we just need encouragement as this is a definite life changing event and will be ongoing for the rest of our lives. Take care and good luck -- the surgery is really minor and you will do fine. I just got banded on December 3 and feel good -- looking forward to the first fill to feel the restriction, but have already lost about 9 pounds and feeling so much better already. -
Is This Normal??
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Kristih's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first 4-6 weeks post surgery aren't about losing weight, it's about giving your stomach time to heal. Healing should be your focus right now, the weight loss will come once you're fully recovered. -

Hey mom I have had a rough couple days myself. I had a bday party/4th of july party for my mom and we had icecream cake so I have had some of it for the last few days. I also had bbq food i had fixed i munched on as well as at work the party stuff. I ended up gaining this week but I also know that its from the grazing instead of my meals. I know thats a no no so Today i went and got my 2nd fill so figure I am going to lose next week. I felt bad since i had gained this week but my dr ensured me i was doing great. -
So yesterday was supposed to be my first ever 5K race but a few weeks back I decided to do the Scope it Out with my friends but I was still signed up for todays and it was AWESOME! First I made a goal for myself to weight 175 by race day! Because of course I could run a race at 175lbs! LOL Well earlier this week I didn't think I would make it as I was doing not so great Well I DID! YAY!! The scale was 175.6 this morning! WOOHOO!! Go to the 5K and found out there were hills UGH I was not looking forward to this! It was downhill at the start so that meant uphill at the end! SUCKY SUCK SUCK!!! BUT, I did pretty good. Could have done better but am VERY happy with my time of 36:17!! WOOHOO Thats 1:40 better then the last race where there were NO hills! LOL

Made My Goal :) And Venting Frustration...
Catracks replied to GonnaLoseIt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are so much thinner that you used to be and thinner than she's use to seeing you. I'm still obese and I get the same comments about taking it too far. Counter with my surgeon who says my ideal weight in 110 which is a the extreme low end of the healthy weight range. It would make me a size 0. I'm ignoring both. I like me at around 125-130. -
Does your doctor have a nurse coordinator or nutritionist who participates in patient education? It must be terribly frustrating to be operating with so little real information about what is expected of you! At first glance, two things leap out at me about your posted meal plan. First, there are an awful lot of carbs if your doctor's told you no carbs. And secondly, you're taking in a larger volume than I would think a good idea for a new pouch. (You really don't want to dilate it by overstretching at this point.) I understand that you are hungry. Hunger is part an parcel of the period after banding when you do not yet have restriction; it may persist for several months as saline is added to your band. That means that, in the meantime, you have to really carefully monitor what you eat---because your band won't be telling you to stop. Journaling at a site like Fitday can help a great deal. It will let you know whether you're getting enough Protein, the right number of calories, too much carb, and so on. Weighing and measuring portions is a good idea. Of course, it helps if you have guidelines from your doctor about what to aim for! (Did he at least tell you how many grams of protein to aim for? Recommend a good bariatric Multivitamin? Specify a volume of food you should not exceed at each meal?) In the absence of more specific information, I would say that a pretty standard maximum volume of food to eat at each meal is 1 cup. I would focus on lean protein and nonstarchy veggies---and I would avoid foods like fries, which offer little nutritional benefit. I know it's frustrating to feel as though you're on a diet, but it is the last time you will be hungry in the name of weight loss. And it's a great time to practice the behaviors that you'll need once you do reach restriction. (I so wish that everyone had a doctor as good as mine, with an eating plan that produces great results. It's hard, during bandster hell---but seeing great results makes it so much easier!)

Not sure if you are counting pre Op loss if you were on a liquid diet. The first 10 pounds or so is Water weight now is the hard part. I would stay with egg whites no yolk. There are a lot of fat and cals in one egg yolk. Veggies should be less than 75 cals per serving. Are you doing any exercise? Most doctors say minimum of 30 minutes per day. I'm at restriction do 1.5-2.5 hours moderate cardio a day and loose let than 1 pound per week.

That's normal for your first week and you're just doing fluids now. More than likely when you start mushies it will slow down. You may even start to gain. Again, nothing unusual. So, don't be concerned you're doing well. Congratulations!!!
