I'm in the middle of a stall (hoping it's a stall at least...) that started about 1.5 wks post op and now I'm about 2.5 wks out and still stalled. Lost about 11 lbs that first 1.5 wks and just nothing. Getting my protein and increasing my exercise and really hoping the scale will move soon because I'm really scared and frustrated.

Should I start it already???
Susanne replied to hopeandfaith's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't start - 2 week liquid diet is horrible, more than you can imagine so try to do as little of it as possible. Liquid diet after surgery is much better because you'll be happy if you get anything in for a few days and you are not really hungry anyway. Before, you are in full blown eating mode and Clear liquids is pretty harsh. Interestingly, I didn't have to do clear liquids BEFORE, just a surgeon prescribed diet consisting of their supplements -
Three weeks from "All Liquid" diet...so many questions
enjoythetime replied to Cindy L's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is just my opinion but because the 2 week liquid diet is very important, I would run any specific questions you have regarding what's acceptable and isn't accepable by your doctor. The answers you're going to receive on here are going to based on everyone's personal exp and their doctor's preferences which may or may not be the same for you. Good luck on the start of your journey! Please keep us posted on how you're doing! -
I'm a side sleeper, too. I don't toss/turn much, but I sleep best on my side. After surgery, I was unable to sleep on my side for about 2 weeks. And not for lack of trying either. I didn't have pain, per se. It sort of felt like my guts were shifting. It was uncomfortable and had me worried, so I couldn't sleep. During those 2 weeks, I slept propped up with pillows. I didn't like it and I didn't sleep well, but it passed.

So I am have my first appt with my doctor at the end of the moth to discuss gastric sleeve. I previously had a lapband but had to get it removed about three years ago. Would my sleeve be considered a revision or a stand alone procedure? My first surgery was self pay but I am needing my insurance to pay for this one. I'm worried if they consider it a revision that the insurance may not pay. Now I'm worried :-/

Not losing like we should
UnderTheCaliSun replied to Sleeve12/27/2017's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm super frustrated. I lost 20 lbs the first 3 weeks and have been at a stall for the past 2.5 weeks. I lose a pound, gain a pound etc... keeping me between 232 and 234. I get my water in but it is hard since my doc said to increase it from 64 oz to 89 oz. That's a lot of fluid in between meals. I seem to have stalled since I introduced soft foods. I seem to only lose when on a liquid diet. I am trying to stay in Ketosis because that does seem to help so no carbs or low carbs. I am also avoiding sugar. I eat eggs, tuna, ground beef, soft chicken, salmon and protein shakes. Now, my doc wants me to increase calories but I don't see how that is going to help. I only lose on the days I go back to liquid. I'm discouraged that I went thru all this to only lose 20 lbs by straight liquid diet. I could have done that without surgery. -
Not Enough Time For The 2 Week Post Diet.
JohannaMae posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just found out that I was approved and my date is March 20. I don't have a lot of time to do the post diet. Has this ever happened to anyone and did u have trouble with the size of your liver? -
I get my band on March 20th and was wondering what kind of restrictions you were given and for how long. As in lifting, house cleaning, driving, Etc. I need to be prepared and may need to arrange for some help with my granddaughter, I have three older kids 21,19,17 plus 3 younger foster children 14,13,6 at home to help, but what about when they are at school. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Protein shakes and stomach ache
ireallywannabthin replied to ireallywannabthin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmmm I wonder if it really is my body jut adjusting. I had my endoscopy last week on top of starting the protein shakes so I think it was a combination. I had another protein shake for breakfast this morning and I only had a tiny feeling of nausea so I'm leaning more towards a reaction of the endoscopy and slightly towards adjusting to the protein. -

1 1/2 Weeks Post Op
prettysmart1913 replied to wendy40's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am on normal food after two weeks as well. I am sticking to 1200 calories and after a week have gained. I am still down from surgery and realize that my body kicked into starvation mode on the liquids/mushies at 600-800. I am allowing my body to adjust and wait on my fill. -
What Items needed for Surgery Day?
ChristyAZ replied to Bring It On's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery last week. I took my Kindle (my second husband as my family calls it), Galaxy Tablet, iPhone and all chargers. I used my phone only. I packed chap stick and I did use it. I did take lotion but with the nausea, the smell made me feel yucky so I wished I had brought unscented. The hospital provided slippy socks. I hate hospital gowns so I packed loose comfy jammie pants, oversized cotton panties and cotton tank tops. I worse both sets and used the bariatric gown as a robe. Braless was my friend. SWEAR! With the abdominal distention from the gas and trauma plus the incisions, any bands would have killed. Worked perfect. I was allowed a shower my second day and they asked if I had brought my own supplies, I said no and they provided everything I needed (soap, shampoo and conditioner). I honestly had very little idle time on my hand nor the concentration to read or web surf. I walked, sipped, walked, sipped, rested, napped and time passed quick ..... I did watch a bit of TV but don't remember much of it .....I had the poots but there was no odor to worry about (it was CO2 and I had no solid food in my system to cause it) .... I packed baby wipes however preferred the cool or warm washcloths from the in suite restroom so I did not even open them. Hope this helps! -
Hello fellow "newbee"....I have been banded for 10 days now. And I can relate to you as far as what to eat....dont be nervous about that because I was too before my surgery. And it just comes to you. The first 2 or 3 days your not gonna want anything to "eat". So I have been eating or drinking I should say.....chicken broth (i dont like beef broth) sugerfree popcicles, sugarfree jello, lots of water or crystal light ice tea. I have had some hot tea with a teaspoon of honey. That was the first week. And stating the second week, I added liquid yogart, protein shake made with skim milk, tomato soup made with skim milk, and I been having a teaspoon of peanut butter. Kinda get it nice and wet in your mouth, if you can imagine "chewing" creamy peanut butter. Then starting my third week which is this coming weds. I am going to add cottage cheese, apple sauce, cream of wheat, mashed sweet potatoes...muchie foods. Really thoughtm dont be nervous, it all comes to you. And dont be afraid at all. I was operated on weds oct 24th and I was home and walking my local Mall 4 days later on Sunday!!!!! Good luck, TONI

Anybody Else Worry About This
Vivien In NYC replied to lkcraig316's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I remember losing like 50lbs in high school and my face went from cute to odd... I honestly don't like my face thin... but I like my body being thin more...I am just starting my journey on getting this surgery...my first official doc appt is this week. I'm willing to learn new makeup and hair styles just to feel better. -
Hi everyone! I am so glad to have found this site. I am 35 years old and I weight 247 and I am 5'8 which puts me at a BMI of 37. So that means I need co-morbidities to get approved. It has been a long wait. I started the process in March with the LB workshop. I got word that my insurance (which is Aetna PPO) requires you to do a 3 month weight managemet with your surgeon, 1 physic consult, and 3 nutrition consults and a letter from my PCP. We have everything submitted and it has been 2 weeks today since I had my last appointment with the surgeon. I am to the point I am ready, but scared. I have never been this size, but started to gain weight after my hysterectomy 8 years ago. I have tried many things, but nothing seems to work. I am an active person. I already have asthma, just diagnosed with rheumotoid arthritis, sleep apena. I hope that is enough to get approved. The only part I am worried about is the protein shakes. I have not found one that I can learn to like. Hope I make lots of friends. The waiting is killing me.

Hiya ladies. I'm always commenting but I know I never post quite as much in here. I am now 29 weeks and feeling ready for this little boy to come! lol. Pregnancy itself hasn't been too bad and I've gained about 14lbs so I'm feeling pretty good about that. Belly dweller has flipped my port up on its side so I'm always sore over there now, and he's got his legs tucked right under my ribs which are KILLING me! I've got all the typical pregnancy woes (sore back, swollen feet, cant sleep lol), but the only thing I'm still having some trouble with is keeping certain foods down, or foods of large volume even though my band is empty. I know it worries my husband sometimes but he seems to still question why I get sick if my band is empty. I think about that sometimes but I also know that over the years of having my band my stomach has shrunk a little, so trying to pack a ton of food in there still doesn't work. Anyways, just wanted to say hello to all of you beautiful ladies!!

Hello and Happy Monday!
dlmyvette replied to Liveforit's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi All: I was banded on 12/30. Only lost 16 pounds so far, that is super disappointing, but I'm happy I've lost some...I'm making small goals for myself now and really working hard this week to get another 10 pounds off by March 7th. That's about 2 weeks. I know it sounds unrealistic, but I'm really going to try for it. -

Today Is The Day!
DirtyHarriett replied to _imgood_'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Best of luck to you! Tomorrow will be one week out for me! Sending happy thoughts and healing wishes your way.., -
Oh I see the problem now! How much does the baby weigh? It's going to be hard to lift her for at least a week. You said your hubby can cover till 3/26, I would probably plan on a babysitter for a few days after that, just to give yourself time to recover enough. You should probably ask your doctor when you can lift the baby's weight again. I checked my discharge papers and it says to not lift anything over 20 lbs but it doesn't say for how long. But your incisions should be almost completely healed by two weeks.... A lot of "shoulds" and "maybes" in there! Definitely ask your doc. Do your best not to do anything for at least 5 days!! You will have a faster recovery time if you do.

Anyone have info on Dr. Jonathon Ray in Maryville, TN
finallyready@51 posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hello everyone, I am scheduled for surgery on 4/30. This past week I had a spouse of a CRNA express concern about my choice of surgeons. It actually freaked me out a little bit. She suggested I do my 'due dilligence' and look at complication rates etc. I have done all that, in fact did it before I selected Dr. Ray. Now, it is making me a little freakie. I chose him and his office because they were a 'Center of Excellance' as certified by the American Bariatric Center. Anyway, I would be interested in hearing of anyones experiences with Dr. Ray. -
So, in my OCD attempt to make sure I'm prepared for surgery (just about 5 weeks away!!) I ordered some Protein powder samples on Sunday. I ordered three sample packs based on a thread in the food & Nutrition forum. First, I ordered unjury. I am most looking forward to trying this one, especially the unflavored and chicken Soup flavors. I also ordered Chike and Syntrax nectar. I wasn't particularly looking for the best deals, just knew what I wanted and was hoping to get them relatively soon. I received a follow up phone call from Chike within 24 hours, just letting me know my order had been shipped and a thank you for ordering. It was nice to see good customer service offered. Today, I received both the Unjury and Syntrax Nectar via UPS. I'm so impressed with the Unjury! It was well packaged and included a shaker bottle and a thermometer, to test Water temps (water used to mix protein can't exceed 140 degrees or it will clump). It also included some ideas for using each type, including the unflavored. I am going to hold off actually taste testing until my pre-op diet. I don't want to get sick of it before it's all I can have. Anyone else pre-op sampled protein powders yet? ~Kat

Just got back on track! It's common to stall and if you stick with your plan - the scale will move.
-
i am gonna try to get back on track. I just stress myself out about my calories if i get anywhere close to 1000 i freak out and think i have messed up and ate to much for the day and worry thats why the scale isnt moving but like i said i am def more hungry this past week than i have been since the surgery so its getting kind of hard.
