    1Yr Bandiversary

Congrats! Thats my 1 year anniversary too! I love my band and it was just what I needed to get this weight off! I started using myfitnesspal.com to track what I eat and it has helped me lose over 7 pounds the last 4 weeks. I was overeating Yogurt! too many carbs.

    I'm So Excited!!!!

I wasn't on a liquid diet pre-op. I would say NO to the mashed potatoes and cottage cheese but the yogurt MIGHT be OK. You could use Yogurt in your protein drinks instead of milk and make a smoothie. Just be wary of the calories. If you take in under 1200 calories your body goes into what is called "starvation mode" and tends to store everything as fat. So be careful going under the 1200 calories. I learned that the hard way. The scale didn't move for months. LOL!!!

    Post Lap bander

Hi, Yes the hunger does subside but the secret is push Water. In order to get veggies and fruit in fresh, wash and blend with water. Here is a green smoothie that helped me curb the hunger and keep my Vitamin intake good. handful of parsley or spinach or any leafy greens 1 green onion 1 tomato small 1/2 cucumber 1 cup low fat yogurt or water blend until completely liquified drink it right away to assure you get your Vitamins. You can also do this with your fruit. Try it with soya milk and fruit its good and feels like you are cheating. As the weight starts to come off you will become motivated and hunger will be controlled. Good luck and let me know in a week how your doing. Remember you can blend anything your family eats with yogurt and drink it. Remember to get in food with Iron in it. I became anemic after surgery.

    Help

I make a salad with a packet of tuna. If I'm not full then I will eat my yogurt as well but usually I don't. Sometimes I will eat a slice of pizza or have a sandwich with a small bag of chips. It all depends.

    I'm soooo tired

Aw man, Zen, you are on purees already? I'm jealous. I am still supposed to be eating only protein shakes and clear liquids until Friday, but I admit I've had some soup. Can't wait until the next stage which includes cottage cheese, runny eggs, and yogurt, whoohoo.
  6. Some bandster friendly food bargains I saw today. At Costco through Sunday, Chobani fruited yogurt $1.25 off 12 count (.75 which for my areas is a great price). At Demoulas MA/NH grocery chain Pure Protein brand bars (20 g size) 2/1.00.

    Muscle pain

I got a little bit of cramping and increased my potassium intake via adding in some avocado and bananas to what I was already eating. For example, I'd put avocado in egg, or banana with my yogurt. I don't know if the muscle pain you're getting is from cramps, exercise, or just general pain, so I don't know if that'll help. The only time I've taken magnesium citrate is for constipation, and that was pre-surgery. If the pain is a constant, I'd call the doctor.

  10. Soup, shakes (been doing plain powder or diluting with almond milk last couple of days as the artificial sweetener taste is getting to me). Experimented with HCG chili recipe and went down well, mashed potatoes, I did cream of wheat and it was too filling, Greek yogurt mixed with soup mix for something savory. Not proud but was out and had some grilled shrimp chewed really well. Out of everything I've had, the one thing that made me feel like I was going to barf was sugar free fat free pudding. You'd think that would be the least of my issues. I used to crave sweets but now craving meat and seafood although surgery day I told my bf I wanted a steak before I got too loopy. Sleeved 5/20.

    Hope I didn't hurt myself...

Did your nutritionist give you a list of foods for this stage? My guideline for mushies was that they should be the consistency of babyfood. Your stomach shouldn't have to do much churning for digestion, and mushies are just the next step in working your way back to softer then more solid foods. Mushies should be things like mashed potatos, yogurt, oatmeal, refried beans. I think the toast was too much too soon, heck scrambled eggs and toast is a regular breakfast, lol. I'm sure you didn't do any damage, but anytime you PB you need to have liquids for the next meal or two.....so take it easy today!
  12. I have not been banded yet but I am concerned about stuff I am taking, I am taking capsules of prilosec and they kill me when they open up inside my stomach... caplets are easier on me. It says on my pharmacy paper I can open them up onto a soft food but not chew, so I am thinking, yogurt may be the best choice. I am also taking zoloft as of 10 days ago. 50mg I didn't like how I was feeling 6 or 7 days in so I have been breaking them in half vs taking a whole one...... Dr thinks my anxiety issues are creating the acid situation. This is all new to me. Only about 5 weeks ago. My preop endoscopy did not show any thing unusual and the h-pylori was neg.

    Just got banded Aug 1!

I was just banded on August 1st. I have the same thing gurgling not much of an appetite.. but one other thing I do notice is that when I tried Jello and yogurt it hurt as soon as it hit my stomach.. the yogurt more than the jello... is that normal too? The pain I feel is more int he center by my heart it feels bruised and as though it's tight hard to breathe from a mass being in there.. is that the same pain you are experiencing?

Food that goes down no Problem

I found that canned chicken or tuna goes down MUCH easier than a filet. And you still get your protein. There's also smoothies made with fruit, FF plain yogurt, sweetner (I prefer stevia), and protein powder. I'm sure other's will chime in with ideas

    T - 7 days til BANDING!!!!

Are you on "clear liquids" or "full liquids"? If you are on clear, you can't have any of those. My doctor let me have yogurt starting day 6 post-op. But the others (cottage cheese, applesauce) weren't allowed until "mushies". Hang in there and STAY STRONG!! You don't want to risk it!

    5 days post-op

5 days post-op and I feel pretty good. Little gassy...but not bad. Last night is the first nite that I actually felt hunger pains so I had a 5 oz greek yogurt. Still woke up feeling hungry during the nite, but just drank more water. Got up about 7am and had a cup of maltomeal. Then about 1100 I was really hungry and I ate a can of spaghettios w/meatballs which is two cups. I don't think I needed the two cups...but part of me was curious what the band would do. I didn't notice anything... but I am not hungry and its now 8pm I did have 16 oz protein drink between 7pm-8pm just to get my protein in though. I think my goal will be to work on getting an eating schedule down now that I am not sleeping as much.:w00t:
  17. Hello! I just wanted to post a "small step victory" I had this morning: I'm being banded on June 8th by Dr. Curry in Cincinnati, OH. On April 14th, I weighed 325lbs and was put on Metformin for insulin resistance by my PCP. Dr. C told me (the next day) that he wanted me to lose 15lbs by my surgeon consult on May 27th. When I weighed myself this morning (5/6), I weighed 304.4lbs. I was soooo pleased w/ myself! On my way to work I remembered that I promised a student I work w/ a breakfast sandwich from McDonalds for reaching a goal. Instead of ordering a combo meal w/ a large OJ for myself, I ordered the student a breakfast sandwich and a yogurt parfait for me. I didn't succumb to the temptation of a sausage/egg/cheese muffin w/ a hashbrown. I ate my yogurt and drank a low-carb SlimFast. I kept reminding myself how great it felt to see those numbers on my scale this morning.
  18. I was sleeved on 1/26. I went for a follow up yesterday, and I've lost 15 pounds!! I am extremely happy with the results so far. I was taken off my high blood pressure medicine AND my acid reflux medicine! Very, very awesome things have happened... I was the fifth person in my family to have WLS. All of them had Gastric Bypass, but I had VSG because of my tendency to make kidney stones. My uncle was my surgeon, so I went into surgery not afraid at all. Everything went great- no sickness in the hospital, incisions are looking amazing, support from my family and friends is plentiful... So excited. I am going back to the gym tomorrow. I guess i'll just start with some walking on the treadmill. I will go back to work on Friday... so excited to see my clients I have managed to keep up with my classes, as I am a full time student. Everything is just going so great for me. I am having problems with my Protein intake. The only Protein shake i've found that I can tolerate is the Atkins shakes- more specifically, the Espresso kind! By the way, I don't see how the flavorless Protein powder is flavorless!! I am doing Oikos yogurt, scrambled eggs, the occasional shake, though it's hard to get down, and whatever else protein I can scrounge up. My surgeon also told me I need to drink more liquids, but I feel like I drink constantly! I guess it'll get easier day by day? I'm only 19 years old, by the way. I am hoping to find more people my age around these forums because I feel kind of alone in that sense. I do love everyone, though And just outta curiousity... does anyone else feel like they eat ALL the time? I feel like i'm doing wrong by eating so often, but I guess the portion size is the cause of that?

    day 2 from surgery

I am only 5 days out and I have been having tomato soup, tomato bisque, tomato basil soup, beef broth, french onion soup, yesterday I had a soft boiled egg that I chewed to death before swallowing, many protein drinks -- the Lindora type, including the hot chocolates, lots of water, some grape juice, V-8 juice, cranberry juice, and some non-fat yogurt also sucked to liquid. That seemed to help. Keep fluids going in and walk around to get rid of the gas pains. You need to have something every couple of hours. I know, I've been hungry too -- go in a week from Friday for my first check and don't know how I will continue liquids for another whole week! Yikes. Hang in there, as long as you suck and chew to liquid consistency you can have various soups -- just nothing with any real chunks. Hope that helps.
  20. I had 0.5cc put in Wednesday and it was just too much. It takes me an hour to choke down yogurt. I assume the doctor knows best about how much to take out, but as I'm private pay for my visits, I don't want her to take out too much. I have to say though, I'd much rather have all 0.5 out and go back to where I was than be stuck feeling like this!! I can't imagine why people would go around feeling like this on purpose. Anyway, not that I can eat much anyway, but I assume I have to be Clear liquids the day of an unfill too?
  21. Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated. I guess I imagined that if I took small bites (which to me is basically about 1/4 teaspoon), chewed really well, and waited a couple of minutes between bites then I wouldn't have any problems. But after thinking it over maybe my bites were a little larger than they should have been and maybe the couple of the bites I didn't wait long enough. I completely get the restriction part and so glad that I have this working for now. I am just going to have to give it some time as far as capacity. Tonight for dinner I boiled and egg and made some egg salad (using light mayo, greek yogurt, and seasonings) and it went down really well not to mention I didn't miss the gobs of full fat mayo I used in the past to make it. Thanks again for all your help and advice!
  22. Go slow!!!! I used a baby spoon for a couple of months to remind me how small of bites I should be taking. Also, I couldn't eat more than about 3 bites - and that took me 20 minutes!!! Chew until it is liquid, and then swallow. Also, eggs and Beans may not be good ways to start. Easiest for me were: cottage cheese, very mashed sweet potato with salt, yogurt, soft cheese. That's all I ate for a while. I still can't eat refried beans without feeling queasy after (bummer, because I love it), and eggs were off limits until about 6 months. Even then, I could only get down about half of one. Take your time and don't do anything that is uncomfortable.
  23. I think there is a balance to having some healthy carbs that will help level you out post-op. What you experienced is more than likely a type of withdrawal from years of consuming a lot of carbs. Do some research into low glycemic carb values so you can have some healthy carbs, perhaps in yogurt, fruit, nuts and Beans. This is sort of a gradual process withdrawing from carb addiction, and boy don't I know it since I was on that wagon a long time. Now, I watch my carb intake at less than 50 most days, but some days I do eat more. I enjoy cottage cheese with canned fruit. Strawberries and plums are naturally lower carb, or I have a Oikos yogurt with fruit to start my day off. lunch might be a small salad with grilled chicken or shrimp, fruit or nuts & cheese for a snack, a Protein shake, protein & veggies for dinner and an evening snack. I have lots of small meals to stay on an even keel - but the meals are very small and not heavy in carbs. Your body will adapt.
  24. Yes, I am on day 5 of an all liquid Protein diet. I can have Protein shakes, Jello, broth, crystal light & yogurt smothies. The first couple of days I did alright except for a bad headache which I attributed to stopping my beloved Diet Pepsi cold turkey. I am not diabetic but I do have Insulin Resistance. At day 5 my headaches aren't so bad but none of the allowable liquids are stopping the hunger pangs. Yesterday afternoon I went out to Lowes with hubby and had to sit down...I suddenly felt so dizzy, nauseous, clammy and my brain stayed pretty fuzzy until I went to bed. And as the day wears on I get so tired of the hunger pains that I am irritable. I have ten more days to go pre-op then I will be on about the same diet for another 14 days post-op, hopefully after surgery things will be a little easier.

    So helpful, thank you

Hi Sally, we have very similar stats -- Onederland is in sight! Sliders are a slippery slope, that's for sure. I rarely do protein shakes these days because of that, though it's a nice treat once in a while. Also I realized my beloved yogurt was a bit of a slider so now I chunk it up some. I add collagen, which I'm taking for arthritis, and that adds six grams of protein at the same time. Then a few walnuts or sunflower seeds, a tablespoon of gluten free granola or oats. Chia seeds. That makes the yogurt into something thick and chewy for me, plus a great protein hit. Also I think cheese is a slider food for me, and it's an old trigger food. So I have to watch out for that. I always want to be sure I can have salmon and very tender meat -- filet mignon, why not if I eat so little otherwise these days? Some veggies work really well, others not so much. I'm getting so I can tell right away. Best wishes to you! Glad you're here.
