Sleeve Surgery 10/27/21
lizonaplane replied to debchara's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a fair amount of pain for the first three or four days home from the hospital. I took one narcotic pill each day for three days, but otherwise tylenol was fine. The pain was only noticeable when I got up from lying down (the worst!), when I sat on the edge of my couch, or when walking (my stomach jiggled and that hurt my incisions). By the end of the first week, I had almost no pain and was able to walk around the block easily. At 2 weeks out, I was walking two miles at my usual slow pace. It was very hard to drink water the first few days, but it got better fast. I had to take the tiniest sips and wait between sips. Taking pills was really hard the first week too. I was so hungry the first two weeks when I was on liquids and even now that I am starting solids, it's hard to know how much to eat. Still learning I guess! -
I recently hit my doctor goal of losing 100 pounds since my surgery and I'm not sure if I got to comfy or confident but all the sudden within like a week I had gain 4 pounds. It totally freaked me out so bad because I am so scared to go back to where I have been. I started working out again because I had become a slacker and I started eating better and I am back down to the goal weight, but man that was a wake up call. Anyone else have this happen? I think it has made me realize that this is a lifetime commitment to being a healthier person. But I have also become super obsessed with every tiny fluctuation in my weight now. PSW: 270 lbs CW: 165 lbs My Goal: 145 lbs

Today the doctor finally called and scheduled my first appointment to see him and the nutritionist. It's about a week away and I'm so anxious and ready! Although, per the doctors requirements any surgery date won't be for at least six months. Did any else's doctor have a similar requirement? Some people seem to get in so fast and not have much of a wait time.

First appointment!

My insurance is 6 months. I have learned to embrace it. I have 3 more weigh ins and then surgery. I will get my date next week. Bariatric Pal is wonderful place to be. So much support and love. Keep writing and reading. I wish you well on your first visit!!! Xoxoxo -
Do yourself a favor and take a week off. This gives you time to heal, recover from the anesthesia (that very tired feeling) and get through the liquid stage before going back to work.

You aren't alone. I really want a few weeks off. I get sick time up to 7 calendar days, but after that it is considered short term disability. I have to put in paperwork to see IF they will pay me for being off more than 7 days. I can't afford to be off without pay. Thankfully, I have a great supervisor. Even though she can't get away with letting me stay at home, she did say that if my benefits aren't approved, she will let me just come to work and not really make me do any of my regular duties until I feel up to par. I am hoping that my surgeon's office will go ahead and send in the paperwork ahead of time so I will know how much time I am allowed. They are really weird about disability. When I had my gallbladder taken out, they gave me three weeks to recoup, but when I had my tubal, they said the 7 days should have been enough. I actually hurt worse after the tubal (my wound got infected) than I did after the gallbladder. Ok, sorry for the dissertation. I tend to talk a lot. :girl_hug:

Thanks, I don't have a desk job either. I do climb latters but not heavy lifting. So, I am thinking 2 weeks. I will let my doctor decide.... Good luck to all....

I Start Pre Op Next Week.. Help Pls..
Izuri replied to thetruedream's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought some random brand whey Protein, but it was in vanilla. I actually like it better than the fruit flavors so far. I prefer chicken broth, but beef broth isn't bad. I had this idea that I was really gonna like vegetable broth (No idea where I got that idea), but I had it and it tasted like boiled mashed stinky carrots. I could barely get it down, and that was pre-surgery when I could stomach almost anything! All the broths I got were the reduced sodium. You could get broth and maybe add some unjury Protein Powder to it to add some protein, I think I'm gonna try that in the next week or so. Some places will have sample packs. I know my bariatric clinic sold nectar brand protein in many flavors in single use packets. I have grabbed a couple flavors and they've been alright so far. -
What my doctor says about stalls...

What my doctor says about stalls...
McButterpants posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was lucky enough to have two doctor's appointments this week - my three month follow up with my local bariatric doctor and my PCP. I lamented to my bariatric doctor about my stall. How I haven't lost anything in the past 18 days. I was kind of whiney about it. She just looked at me like I grew a 2nd head. She said, "You're going great. You've lost a total of 50 pounds. What was your expectation?" I got to thinking about that - really, what number was going to make me happy? If it was 53 pounds would I automatically to over the happy side? What about 63 pounds, is that the magic number? She pointed out all the good things going on - lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol, my ability to walk seemingly forever pain-free, my increased energy level, etc. All good stuff, right? So why am I so hard on myself about the number on the scale. She asked how often I'm weighing - I'm back to weighing every day. She told me to stop that, but I weighed again today. The best thing she said about my weight was this - "If you graph your weight loss, the line won't be linear, it's going to be more of stair step." And you know, she's right. I graphed my weight loss to date and it looks like stair steps. This morning I went to my PCP whom I haven't seen since late-October, about 2 weeks before surgery. Her jaw dropped when she saw me. She cannot believe the difference in my appearance. Then we started going over the labs and she was amazed. She actually said "You are glowing! You look happy. Your eyes are clear and bright. The transformation is amazing." Sometimes we get so hard on ourselves because we're not losing a the rate in which we think we should. "I'm a slow loser!" "So-and-so is losing so much faster than me!" We need to STOP! This is marathon, not a sprint. I didn't get to 256 pounds overnight, I'm certainly not going to lose it overnight. Sometimes it's good to step back and look at things from a different angle. -
What could you not live without that first few weeks.

My pill crusher and mug warmer were my have to haves. I couldnt tolerate cold liquids at first and it would take awhile to drink a cup of decaf tea so my mug warmer was like my security blanket. I would carry it all over the house lol. Now that Im 5 weeks out, I have one at work and 2 at home (one upstairs and one downstairs). I dont need my pill crusher any longer though. Im already a lip balm addict so Ive got one in every room and every purse -
i realized something today

What is protien water? I have never heard of that, well maybe I have but I didn't know it. I will get my band hopefully the first week of August, all these little tricks are good to know. -
ive been doing myfitnesspal.com for about 2-3 weeks now and logging everything i eat and drink. i noticed for the most part that most of my calories come from snacks in between my meals. somedays i dont even eat snacks but somedays i do. one day the total of calories was 720 just in snacks. from now on i am choosing fruits and veg that have less calories and fat. somedays if i eat out even though i choose something as healthy as i can those calories tend to be high as well. i went out to a local resteraunt and got a two egg, cheese and bacon omlet. you wouldnt believe how many calories it was. ive havent been eating out that much thank god. i now realize that its mostly my snacking here and there that add up. i also noticed that my protein is on a average to be about 50grams i do have some days that i eat like 90grams so maybe it equals out? i just wanted to share this info with you, maybe this post with help others andrea

Anyone else stop enjoying food?
areellady replied to AdaBell's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think many of us go through this phase of not being hungry and food not looking appetizing. Enjoy this stage in your band journey. It is such a wonderful time to realize that food does not need to be a part of every single moment of your life. You can go without food right now because of the swelling around you stomach. I was told this exact same thing three months ago and it was so true. I now have an appetite, but back then, I really thought that I would never want food again. -
3 weeks post-op Am I doing this right?
crayon67 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am 3 weeks post-op sleeve surgery and am concerned about stretching my "pouch". I know there may be a bit of stretching down the line, I just am so nervous. I did not have any pain at all after surgery, have had energy (not back to work yet though so that may change), and started walking (slowly) on the treadmill 2 days post-op. I have eaten very finely chopped up chicken already as well as eggs, cottage cheese and Greek yogurt. I have not had that "full" feeling I have read about but I do know when I am satisfied and stop eating. I have not felt nauseous at all even the evening after the surgery. Are there others out there that have had it "easy" post - op? I have a super supportive family and I'm so excited about this new stage in my life. I just want to do it right. -
Pre-Op Liquid Diet - Cant Stomach This! :(
LosingItForMe2011 replied to sharoncarrie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Sharon....so sorry you're having a hard time. Every doctor's requirements seem to be different. Mine didn't even require a pre-op diet other than to lose 10% prior to surgery. Basically she told me to try to lose because it would shrink my liver making it easier and safer for surgery. I know a few folks here did have to go on a two week liquid diet such as you...hopefully they'll be able to help with input. Just know its not forever and you're surgery will be here before you know it. Hugs -

Pre-Op diet harder that I thought
angelpooh29 replied to ISleevedIt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can do it. I am 11 weeks post op and for me the pre op diet was the hardest but you will be so happy in the end!! Prayers going up for you. -
I had the lap band surgery 2/9/09 1 week after surgery I can eat as normal as before. is this normal before you have your 1st adjustment. I'm finding it real hard and only maintaining my weight, because I'm always feeling hungry. My motivation seems to be going down & feeling like I feeling like i failed once again.

Skinny Minny Maybe
Indigo1991 replied to skinnyminnymaybe's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations, u just did a very positive thing for your health and quality of life! Hold on tight, first few weeks can get a bit bumpy as the new sleeve and new way of doing things bed in .... But this too shall pass ...and there's a new you heading in ur direction Despite the odd bump, I have had a good experience to date. But I am what my clinic calls a "compliant patient" - I did exactly as I was told, lol. Followed their instructions to the letter, followed the stages of eating, got Protein and Water in etc. but payback is that I have never been sick or struggled with food and my two comorbidities have all but been resolved. This alone has changed my life... Yes, I have had stalls but my weight/inch loss has been amazing. So my advice to u is to stick to ur docs advice and on the less good days, remind urself that tomorrow will be better. Also be kind to urself for the next few weeks, u just had major surgery and ur hormones will be all over the place. Four months out and life is already transformed for me - I wish the same for u, good luck! -
High BMI peeps! Tell me your stories.
NWJill replied to ChantelleR90's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 4-weeks post op, I lost a lot of weight pre-op (about 70 pounds) and have lost 45 pounds since starting pre-op two weeks prior to surgery. I am currently 430ish (just got back in town after being gone a few days so will weight in the morning) and I am 5'11" tall. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
If a couple weeks goes by then probably a good idea to give a call. But I would start with my doctor's office first.

I had my psych evaluation 3 weeks ago which was the last thing I needed to get my paperwork sent to insurance. I thought the psychologist I saw was going to send my eval to my bariatric team ASAP but 3 weeks later and they just notified me that they received it!!! Hopefully Blue Cross Blue Shield doesn't decide to be as slow as her! I think the pony express could have delivered it faster ???? Of the 4 women in my office (including me), 2 of them are going on maternity leave this fall/winter and I really wanted to get my sleeve before the first lady went on leave... And during this deductible year since I'm down to only owing $1700 out of pocket instead of $2,500. The annoying part is I will get crap for having to be gone during her leave but I will be doing something to make myself healthier....I am not planning to tell them about the surgery though so they will all think I'm just going to be vacationing at a really inconvenient time... I'm pretty frustrated this morning just knowing I will have to deal with this in my small office. Once insurance does come through (and I'm pretty confident it will because my starting BMI was 49 and I have high BP and I lost 40# during my 6 month Dr supervised weight loss program) I will still have 4 weeks of pre-op classes to attend, which also means taking half days off from work to attend... Hopefully there is a light at the end of this tunnel soon! I feel like I began this process so long ago.... I've been considering WLS since 2012 but my job didn't cover it until this year. I went to my bariatric seminar in February and have tried to do everything as quickly as I could to get through this process, I feel like the psychologist has created such a mess by delaying me 3 weeks Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

Experiencing My First Stall
