    I'm new, surgery date 1/27/13...

Lovely momma, I'm a revision too. I found the sleeve surgery much easier than my band and the port revisions I had. It was also easier than the band removal. The post and pre diet was not easy, but it does give some great results.
  2. Hi Everyone! First - thank you all for your responses on my previous posts.. everyone has been so reassuring. Much to my surprise I feel like I need even more support going through a Band to sleeve revision (6/24/14) than when I was originally banded. I think part of it is having to go through some of these beginning stages all over again, partly fear of failure, partly dealing with increased physical pain and longer recovery time. Frankly, it's been much more emotional than I anticipated. I've been having internal dialogue with myself that the pain will subside, the scars will minimize and the swelling will go down and its normal to miss food. I can have these logical conversations but yesterday I had an emotional breakdown after taking a long look at myself in the mirror. Now mind you I'm not one to feel sorry for myself nor throw a pity party but this is the most significant surgery I've had in my life to date and so the healing time is all new to me.. Yesterday I felt like Frankenstein with all the cuts, bruises and swelling..I was feeling tired and overwhelmed..luckily my husband is a great support. Having all this time to be home and think is playing tricks on me but I know this too shall pass.. How long did it take for your stomach bruising and swelling take to go away?

    Getting back on track

I was told about this app by another lady to help me get back on track. I had the lapband surgery in 2006, lost about 70 lbs, got pregnant surprisingly, and he moved the band. Had to have a revision and went to the sleeve. That was in 2010. I had gained about 40 lbs back and lost about another 75lbs again... however over the years and especially this last year I have put back all but 20 plus pounds of my original max weight. I still can't eat a lot but am eating all the wrong things. So this week starts me back over. Going back to the base diet requirements for getting ready for the surgery to psych myself mentally and physically back into gear. Lots of prayers and wishes and if anyone wants to help bust me to get on track... I would appreciate it. Sent from my SM-G530T using the BariatricPal App

    Emotional Journey

Wow! This entire strand has brought me to tears. I can relate to each of you. I had revision surgery last week on the 25th. I feel swollen as well, I'm so anxious to start losing weight and secretly scared of failing again. The scars are not pretty but when I think about looking at the old scars prior to revion surgery they had faded are were barely noticeable so I'm sure this time will be no different. I'm interested in knowing how weight loss progress goes for you ladies. Its hard to others that have went from band to sleeve....hope its okay if I send ya send request and follow some of your post. I need all the positive feedback I can get. I just keep praying and asking God to give me the patience and strength I need to take it one day at a time and be happy in the moment. I've been using moist heat for the aches and its helped tremendously. Doc gave me liquid hydrocodone but I haven't taken it since Saturday.... Like I said that heat works wonders. I am trying to get back on my walking regimen as quickly as possible.
  7. I am in the process of having the band to Sleeve revision surgery. It was discovered during my EGD the end of May that my band had slipped, and it is now medically necessary to remove it. My surgeon's rule is that if it is deemed medically necessary to remove the band, he only requires you to lose 6 pounds from your initial weight at your first visit with him. Well between my first visit with him, and my EGD, I gained 11 pounds from taking an anti inflammatory medication for my back. So that put me up to having to lose 17 pounds. Grr!!! So I immediately topped taking the medication that was causing me to gain weight, and started the low carb diet that my doctor put me on. From the end of May until July 7th, I lost a grand total of 4 pounds. So frustrating!!! Since then, I have restricted my carbs even more, watched my caloric intake, sodium intake, fat intake, and have been switching out one meal a day for a protein shake. Today I go for another weigh in, and to see the nutritionist, and I just know that I'm only going to have about a 3 pound loss, and I just don't understand why. I have been to my regular doctor and have had my thyroid checked, and all blood work done to see if there are any underlying issues, and there aren't any. I also spoke with my insurance company this morning, and my surgery has been approved! Yay!!! But.... there's a time limit on this approval, and it runs out October 17th. So I am hoping and PRAYING that my surgeon will bend his rule, and let me slide on the remaining 10 pounds..... 🙁🙁 Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. Hi, I have had 3 Lapband slips and my doctor is recommending me for a revision to VSG. I just found out that he won't remove the lapband and revise to VSG in one surgery. He does it in two. I can't afford to have 2 separate surgeries. Does anyone know if there are any doctors in the Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg area who will do the Lapband to VSG all on the same day. Please let me know.
  9. I was always under the impression that a revision was going to result in more pain then the original band surgery. NOT at all true for me. This has been a lot easier and everything at 5 is going great.....I'm having such little trouble at this point, I'm beginning to worry that something terrible willl happen to me, just to punish me. I'm on Clear liquids for another 10 days......this is the worst part. Dr. Aceves wanted me on on clears until day 15 after my surgery, due to a lot of scar tissue from the band. I have my band and I'm planning my special tribute video farewell for it next week. I will post it on youtube. I'm thinking a small ceremony with a creamation at the end!!!!!!!!!! I'm sure the lapband people will be horrified.
  10. I had my surgery.....Lap Band removal, revision to Sleeve.....almost 2 weeks ago, June 26, 2017. I am quite swelled on my upper left side incision area, and have been since surgery. Has anyone else had this swelling, or does everyone have it? I'm wondering if it was due to removal of my port, as it was a good size. I've kept ice packs on this area but can't really tell it's going down much. My doc office says as long as it's not hurting, it's ok. Maybe I'm worrying too much!! Thanks.
  11. So I haven't been on here for a while but had to share with others my experiences with the gastric sleeve. I had my surgery on April 12, 2016 the first 6-8 weeks it was going great some vomiting here and there while getting used to the new ways of life. Then the now and then became more and more frequent til I was vomiting daily. I this was not right so I had a long talk with the doctor he told me he was thinking i had a kink in the sleeve and sent me to a gastroenterologist. This doctor was sure it was a kink and scheduled me for a Esophagogastroduodenoscopy or EGD on August 12, 2016. The EGD went well for about 2 weeks than slowly I started vomiting again more and more, back to the doctor then to get another EGD on October 20, 2016. This time it seemed to do the job by the end of January I was doing good than the beginning of February the vomiting started again back to the doctor and April 25, 2017 EGD #3. I knew it linked again by may but I was sick of it so I decided to stick it out, BAD MOVE on July 27, 2017 I was rushed to the emergency room with Severe dehydration because I couldn't keep anything even ice down. July 29,2017 EGD #4. After that one I could tell it wasn't going to be long be i was back there and i was right November 8, 2017 I went in for EGD #5. After that last one it was a 100% different feeling not for the good but I pushed through and waited it out. I went in for my 2 year post OP appointment on April 10, 2018 (2 days before my 2 year) and doc was not happy to hear I am scheduled for my 6th EGD on May 10, 2018 so after looking at my labs and my upper GI from January I was told that my body is basically like rejecting my sleeve and my new lifestyle I have to live. So now i am waiting for a call from the doctor to start my new journey of having a gastric bypass done on my sleeve (revision) before I could think of what I should say I started crying and repeating "Why on earth did I do this to myself. I regret ever having this damn surgery". She calmed me as much as she could and now I'm waiting for this all to begin. When I was 18 months post OP my OBGYN gave me the go ahead to try for a baby. We decided to wait a little longer because he was working out of state. Now that he's back and we want to start a family I am told that I can't for another couple years. My life is crumbling and I am so disappointed that I can't start the family my boyfriend wants I'm even considering telling him to leave me and find someone that isn't a broken mess.

    Sleeve complications again!

So sorry to hear about your awful luck. Complications like yours are very uncommon, but they do happen....and you've reminded us. Wishing you the very best. I think there's a very good chance you're going to feel a lot better and start having a more typical experience after your revision surgery. Good luck and keep us posted.
  13. I am having revision surgery on March 14. I am totally unfilled right now and am not handling it well. They said my slip was too much for an unfill to help it go back. Keep the faith and keep us posted... Tracy
  14. Well just got back from the dr. and he took 2 cc out.. Just as I thought I had slipped just a little he said and that he will check back in a month. He said I might need revision surgery. He said I had been to tight for too long was the problem? Anyone have experience with this? I am happy with my weightloss so far this is a little scary. Just scared I may gain weight back/
  15. I had a band to sleeve revision May 17, following a second hiatal hernia (first hernia repair Dec. 2015). When I consume liquids, I can feel the liquids hit my stomach, which results in pain that is nearly intolerable, even with pain meds. Has anyone else experienced this? And, if so, how long did it last? History: Band installed May 2003 - gained 25 lb Diagnosed port leak June 2005 Port replacement 2005 - lost 160 lb Band drained for pregnancy - gained 90 lb Port replacement 2010 - lost 60 lb Band drained for pregnancy - gained 50 lb Sept 2012 - Feb 2015 - lost 50 lb Band drained Sept 2015 due to massive reflux Dec 2015 diagnosed with hiatal hernia & repaired same month Band filled March 2016 Bad hiccup April 2016 - confirmed hiatal hernia
  16. I had a revision on May 17 2016, also from band to sleeve. I can drink fluids but I have to do it slow (like a turtle), so I'm doing it every hr almost, to get fluids in. Can you try that method.? We both are only 5 days postop, and everyone says it will take time. Hope you feel better!
  17. I had my gallbladder removed today I’m in so much pain today I found out I have esophagitis and I have bail my surgeon found I have wait a year too make sure is clear if not I’m going have get revision from gastric sleeve to gastric bypass
  18. Panda, I would think there was something wrong if you had NO anxiety. I think it's perfectly natural to have it because it is a big decision and a serious surgery. But RNY has been around for a long time and surgeries have become so much more advanced as well as the testing to make sure things are ok before they close you up from the surgery. I know I'm nervous and I've only started the process and I've had lapband surgery with two revisions already prior. But if you know this surgery is for you and in the end it's going to help you out...concentrate more on that Good luck!

    Trouble With Dr's Office

I just talked to her again.... she finally revised my dates with Tricare...they will update within 24hrs (I talked to Tricare to make sure she did it). She and I had a very heated conversation as to why she has been treating me so poorly, seems it boils down to me working in the same hospital system as the Dr and being able to talk to him and explain my situation and him asking her to push it through for me. She said she doesnt like having to rush anything and I should have never asked that it be rushed and just let it take its course. She said she usually has 5 days to prepare a chart and she had to do mine in the same day.... guess she's pissed at me because he understands my reasons for needing to have surgery between certain dates..... not sure. Just hope I have very limited dealings with her after Monday!!
  21. I have blue cross blue shield AL and I am W-A-I-T-I-N-G not so patiently for a phone call!!! I hope I get approved but mine is a revision, getting rid of the lap band and doing the gastric bypass, Atnea covered my lap band without any problems just had to do a 6month program and some tests ect...
  22. Welcome to VST! There are members here who have had both and I'm sure will chime in with the differences, but obviously they've revised to the sleeve, from the band, so for them I'd venture to guess there are more positives with the sleeve. I started my wls process looking and planning to get the band as well. I started reading the complication's forum on lapbandtalk.com and decided the band wasn't the best thing for my life. I won't talk about the negatives with the band or other wls (you can read the complication's forums on both lapbandtalk and obesityhelp.com) because I've never had it, but I will share with you how I thought the sleeve would be a good fit for me. -I still have a completely functioning stomach and can take pills; I'm only 30 and didn't want to restrict myself in case I needed specific medications later in life. -It's permanent; I do not ever want to gain the weight back (I realize that this is only a tool and I do have to make some permanent lifestyle changes). -I do not have to worry about extra supplementation due to malabsorption. -I do not have to worry about continuous follow-up care (fills and unfills). -At 7 months out, I now live a very normal, active life! Not saying that other procedures aren't as good. This procedure just matched my life best, and it has been one of the best things I've ever done for myself.
  23. I was banded in 2005 in Monterrey MX. It was the most amazing experience ever! Unfortunately, a doctor in the states messed it up. So I do not have a fill, but the band restricts as is. It has a mind of its own. I haven't had any major complications other than food getting stuck and PB. Long story short I just want it out. I'm traveling to TJ on April 12 for surgery with Lopez. Surgery in Mexico does not even bother me to say the least, it's the idea of waking up without the sleeve. I hope all can be taken care of in one surgery. Is there anyone out there who can relate???

    Lap band with plication?

You really need to ask your surgeon about that, and it might depend on whether you'd want to keep your band at the time of a revision. I've heard of band with plication as a first-time, combo procedure, but haven't heard of adding plication to an already-banded patient. To add plication now, I think your surgeon would have to remove your band, do the plication, and put your band back in place.

    Hiatal hernia and sleeve

I had a hernia after my original sleeve and just had it repaired during the revision surgery. I feel much better. Now that it''s gone I can tell how much pain it was causing me!
