  2. I have so appreciated all the information and resources you provide to everyone...they have been so helpful to me! I am trying to figure out where & how to get a band to sleeve revision. If I can get my insurance to cover it in the US- I will do that, provided I can find a good revision surgeon...Otherwise, I will definitely be going with Dr. Aceves- and this is all because of research I've done on him after reading information posted by YOU...so thank you! =)

  3. I had a band before then revised to the sleeve. No rerouting or anything additional was done except removing my band, and doing the sleeve. Thank you for the sweet comment.

  14. Hi Gang, I am crawling ot of my skin waiting for my insurance Aetna Navigator PPO to PLEASE approve me for my surgery, I am suffering with major complications from my LapBand which I have had since 2010. Basically, the surgeon (who I fired) had punctured my tube on the last fill,April 2012- which ironically caused severe restriction due to my lower esophagus really messed up combined with my stomach which has "many ulcers and erosions" So, the plan is this- have everything done in one surgery which I am totally on board to do- I know the risks, and possible complications but this has to happen NOW. One of the reasons my surgeon is requesting this to be all in 1 procedure is due to the fact I have a BMI under 35. He is concerned if we do 2 separate surgeries the chances of revision to RNY would be denied. So, I wait-and try not to stress too much (yeah the ulcers hate this too) I am so scared that my insurance will deny this request. I can't have just the band removed- it has to be a revision at the same time,. Through out this mess I have managed to keep the 45lbs (out of 90) I need to take off. I can't have all this hard work go down the drain! Plus of course the anxiety of not being able to give my job a straight answer as to when I am going on leave . And most importantly lining up my "ducks" with taking care of my family- I have a 3rd old. Any encouraging words out there will be soooo appreciated- Is there anyone who has Aetna and had a situation like mine? Positive thoughts...prayers...and visualizing my crossing that finish line. Nice to be a newbie in this group especially at this time of need. XOX Linda
  15. Congrats to you! I am on my liquid diet as well. Starting at 160. I had the band for five years. I am getting a revision. Today is my second full day and I want to EAT oh my goodness. I am proud of you for sticking to it 7 days
  16. I am four months post op today and still am very aware of my revised tummy. I feel it from to to bottom, especially when eating or drinking. I'd say its normal this short time after surgery.
  17. (Long post and excuse the typos - writing on phone). I was sleeved on 9/30 and even though I did a ton of research I do feel like I overlooked, or missed a few things, so I have just a few questions for those sleeved before me. Quick back story: My surgery began around 12ish Wednesday and was over after 3:30. Doctors encountered some issues. 1. Larger than expected hernia 2. Weird stomach shape. (Small at the top and large at the bottom). 3. Loose stomach? He said it was something he nor his counterpart had ever seen, but my tummy was not set. It was swinging all over the place. They had to stitch it in place which he said would cause more nausea than normal. 4. Had to cut some abdominal muscle because of size of hernia, stomach. 5. Upper GI study showed some obstruction, but fingers crossed its just swelling. I wasn't able to HD anything down until they day I was released. Surgery took over 3 hours because of all of this. Recovery in the hospital was pretty horrendous at times and peaceful at others. I ended up having to stay 4 days. (Just released at 3pm yesterday). Q1: Is it normal to have regret, I literally have some hours were I cry and then some hours where I can't wait until months 6+ to see how far I've came. To add, when I went to get my upper GI study to see why I couldn't hold my liquids in (found it was just slowly dripping) the nurse and doctor both where asking me why in the world I got this surgery saying the usual "your not big enough," or "it seems like they are allowing smaller and smaller patients". So not what I needed to here while being told I couldn't go home and I may have an obstruction that needs a revision. Q2: This ties into Q1 because I think it's the main reason I'm struggling to appreciate my surgery. I'm still wearing the mid section binder to keep everything firm. It actually hurts terribly when I don't have it on or tight enough. I also have to use a pillow to walk since they took my staples out yesterday. I was able to walk fine in the hospital, pretty fast actually with no pain, but now it's painful to even walk to the bathroom or get up from the bed. My pain meds help, but it feels like I'm being ripped apart when I move. Any advice? I'm desperate. Q3: What's with my mouth making all the extra saliva? It's to the point I actually have to have a cup with me. Gross. Anyone have this issue or know how to stop it? Q4: Can I take benadryl for allergies now, or is it something ill-advised? Q5: Where'd you all buy a pill crusher? Q6: I started mixing benefiber in mio flavored Water.. Too soon? Q7: Ive read so any things about how to take care of my incision. What's the easiest/safest way? Q8: Am I being dramatic? Lol. Thanks all!!
  18. I Had posted earlier asking for opinions on Band and Sleeve just because I had been reading so many negative things on the band, especially of revisions and people having so many diff problems. I will definitely be sleeved! I had already researched Dr's before bc I thought originally I would get the sleeve before. I will use either Dr. Borland on New Iberia, LA or Dr. Gachassin/Dr. Eschete at Acadiana in Lafayette, LA. My best friend works in New Iberia and lives in Abbeville so either of these are Great Locations for me since she will be helping take care of me since my family can't take off work here in Ga. Thanks for all your input! Johnathan
  19. I'm in the same boat. I developed motility issues after my VSG in 2014, on Monday I was given a revision to RNY to try to tackle the GERD issues before they continue on with further treatments. What I understand at this point is that they have to take baby steps trying to minimize the impact of these complications by medication (do you have spasms at all?), or by surgical means. I was told that there's no guarantee any of these procedures would actually work. You may just have to wait and see what they throw at you. Ultimately I was warned that sometimes we just have to end up going with TPN when other treatments fail. It's a wait and see game.
  20. I had my band placed by Dr. Stevenson and a revision/ hernia repair with Dr. Monash two weeks ago. I liked Dr. Stevenson but what I disliked was the fact that a nurse practioner was handling my after care. I ended up having a slip and had to take several trips to Scottsdale for follow up care (barium swallow). After being told I had a minor slip and it would heal on its own I went for a second opinion with Dr. Monash and a third with Dr. Galvani at UMC. Both Dr. Galvani and Dr. Monash said I needed a revision (reband placement) while TrueResults said everything was normal. I absolutely love Dr. Monash. He is honest and straight forward with you. I can ask him any band related question. Such as the left shoulder pain many people experience. I asked Dr. Stevenson and was told it wasn't related to the band. While Dr. Monash gave an explanation and reasoning behind his answer. I wish I would have paid the $2,000 more from the beginning and went with Dr. Monash. Don't waste your time with TrueResults.
  21. Hello Sleevers! For the few weeks I have joined this forum, I have been introduced to a community of caring, wonderful, supportive peeps--some mentors and some at the beginning of this journey like me. To all those wonderful and brave souls, thank you. I am going in to surgery today with Dr. Aceves in Mexicali. Let me start by saying I have always been generally risk averse. So, it would make sense that my journey with WLS started at the lap band some 9 years ago, or as others have appropriately coined it "the crap band." The lap band was a series of disappointments...mostly in myself. But long story short is that I lost 45 lbs while training for a marathon the first 3 years but really, aside from the first 25 lbs associated with the post-op diet, the band didn't really help much in my weight loss journey. Instead it encouraged me to eat sliders and forced me to slime at inconsistent times but usually when trying to eat in front of new people (who didnt know or need to know about my band) or when eating healthy foods. Over the years the weight crept back along with worse and worse eating habits. More alarming was all the data about failure, slips, revisions, and the long term complications with having some silicone in your body (duh). I knew I needed to get this piece of crap out of me...but was afraid to balloon up without something... But for not succeeding with the band, I take full responsibility. I know if I stuck to weight watchers and kept running every day then I would have maintained my 28-29 BMI. Great! If I could stay on weight watchers my entire life and run everyday well then, I wouldn't need this sort of help, would I? Back to risk aversion--that explains why I am 1000 miles from home, in a foreign country, by myself getting major abdominal revision surgery. I am trying to take a measured risk here. Dr. Aceves is at the top of his profession and no one has more revisions under his belt than this Tom Selleck mustached genius. As a testament to his fan base, there are two other gals with getting surgery on the same day as me. One gal is accompanied by her daughter (Aceves July, 2011) who lost 100 lbs and is super cute, and another gal who is coming back after 7 years to get her band revised. Both ladies know Aceves and have enough confidence to come back. So....I am on my way. Wheeeeeeeee! kisses Sylvia Mom
  22. Be careful! That candy craving took over about 1 1/2 years out . Since nothing made me sick, I began eating loads of candy every day and gained back 60% within a year. I have been revised for a month to the RNY so I cannot eat candy ever again! When I was on the wagon I used Livestrong's My plate to track everything I ate & was told to stay under 1000 per day but you should really ask your Nutritionist what is right for you, your height, age and ideal weight. Calorie goals can vary by person...
  23. Hi everyone! I'm new here. My husband had a lapband placed in June 2008 and had list almost 100 lbs and then gained it all back. He is set to have said band removed on 3/24 & he is planning on having a gastric sleeve in 2-3 months after the revision. I'm here to learn more, to learn as much as I can so that I may be the best support. I want to learn what the journey will be like for him and how he can avoid having a relapse and gaining weight after a success. I look forward to getting to know all of you and I appreciate your advice and your letting me into your journey
  24. Did you ever move forward with the revision? I'm trying to find some information on the different procedures for revisions after gastric bypass (I'm 8 years out and just started gaining this past year...hungry all the time...etc). Any information you can share will be helpful.
  25. They covered my revision back 1 1/2 year as ago, but we are under the "new" medicare. I am not sure what, or if, they would cover your needed procedure. My surgeon said they would not cover my appointments because I was not at 35 bmi, which they did last year. So, my answer is, check with the surgeon's insurance and medicare specialist. That's my only answer. Sorry!!Karen
