    Newbie Alert!

Yeah I'm 5'0 and I weighed about the same at my surgery date! And I just can't drink the Protein shakes they suck. But I need something, what were you drinking? And how much? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. I would love to, I started out my surgery weight was 299 and after my surgery I rested for about maybe three days and then I started walking around my neighborhood slowly I had a walking stick with water and my protein which was the protein that has approximately 30 g of protein Sam's Club, and then I just continue to eat my broth and my two shakes, sugar free jello and continue to sip or eat it every 15 minutes actually actually set an alarm on my phone to make sure that every 15 minutes I was sipping something and now at week three I did do like a 3 to 4 days stall and then as of today I have lost a total of 30 pounds so I recommend just staying on point with your diet and getting up and moving because it also helps to make sure blood clots are not going to be formed and just keep moving and that helps your metabolism and it's telling your body that you are doing something new now so my dietitian just shared with me yesterday that my stomach is the size of golf ball or I have the stomach the size of a banana and it's all in the mind tricking your mind to say this is it this is what I'm supposed to eat this is the exercise I am going to do and this is the life I'm going to live - hope that helps
  3. Not trying to be mean just trying to give tough love. 10 weeks after surgery I blowed out the 1 of the 6 plate that held my leg together for the last 6 years and had to have emergency surgery. I was told by doctors that it would be 6-8 weeks befor I could go back to the gym ans work out. 3 weeks later I'm back in the gym working out and losing weight. Now I know you are not me and I understand your pain but you can't let this side line you from all the great weight loss you have had. Going back and do what made you lose the weight in the begining drink the protein drinks go back to 2-3 oz of food at a time 5-6 times a day. There is upper body exercise that you can do to help and even with a hip replacement or repair the doctors must want you to walk. Start out slow and build from there. And keep us posted we are here for you sorry if this sounds mean its not ment that way. For 6 years I have lived with pain in my right leg from a drunk that crushed it when he ran me over having WLS has made the world of difference the weight is off my leg and it feels 200% better and getting better every day Surgery Anniversary 7/30/12
  4. This is my personal record of my progress at twelve weeks. A bit dull so don’t read it! But I kinda need to get it down. And I have to admit, it has been a dream run. 14 December, Lap band removal and RNY in one. Fobi Pouch (‘no stretch’) type RNY, with intestine sewn over the incision line for my long thin pouch, making it very thick and non-stretchy, also with a small non-adjustable silastic ring sewn in to maintain the girth size/shape. Open surgery, but even that was pretty easy. I did take 4 weeks off, then built up my hours over the next 3. I have a stressful job with 1000 staff, so I wanted to come back carefully, knowing I would not collapse. And steady weight loss averaging 3.75lbs (1.7kg) a week ever since. The MyFitnessPal graph below- at the start the pre-op diet for 3 days, the flat drop in the post-surgery out-of-town-so-no-daily-weighing days, and daily weighings first thing in the morning since. I am so glad that I faced up to the non-working band and made the call for surgery before letting my weight get right back up to my pre-band weight. In only 3 months I am less than 5kg off my band-working weight, so my reward has been like instant gratification. Back into many of my old, carefully stored clothes. Walking, without feeling self conscious. Hips, knees much less sore. Proud of my eating. Back into my motorcycling gear - so bought a new bike in the weekend!! She’s a beauty. And going scuba diving in the pacific at Easter. Amazing the lifestyle difference 45lbs makes. Being ‘obese’ and not. I can eat more than I want - I think. Too much sweet gives me dumping - or did. I am too scared to try sweets again! I have a piece of liquorice each night, fine. I can eat bread easily but if I eat a bread roll that is my whole meal, so I don’t. I feel like I can eat a lot, but after a meal maybe 1/4-1/3 the size of my partner’s, I kinda stop eating - not feeling full exactly, but feeling ... finished. Disinterested in having more. No drive to eat til stuffed. 3 or 4 potato chips and I am done - these were my nemesis. Am never driven to buy them. I am pretty good about ‘protein first’ each meal. I get 45-60g a day. My calories are 750-900 a day and very slowly climbing - I am on strictly 3 meals a day but I think I may need to add one to get to 1200 calories/60g protein. I eat too quickly and I sometimes forget and drink with a meal, to no ill effect. I drink lightly carbonated water, my coffee is mostly decaf, and I start each day with a Nescafé pod/ice/trim milk//‘balance’ vanilla protein powder frappe on the NutriBullet. Lunch - sardine or chicken salad. And a good dinner, which I love to cook for us both. My normal-sized partner’s wee pot tummy is gone because I am not being a bad influence! And this forum has been a constant source of inspiration, chuckles, and fascination. Many thanks.

    4 days post op

Shaines9,LL I, too, had my RNY on Tuesday, May 30th at 8:00AM at Howard University in Washington, DC. The surgeon was impressed with my recovery, etc., and released from hospital the next day around 6:00PM. My pain is very minimal as if I didn't have surgery. I started walking the same evening after surgery and have been walking ever since. I'm 48 years old, soon to be 49 years old September 11th. Hubby and walked around cul de sac yesterday evening and walked a few lapses at the track this morning. Then, rode around in our new ride running errands. I AM TRULY BLESSED AND FAVORED TO BE HEALING SO WELL. I have my one week follow-up appointment with the surgeon on Wednesday, June 7th at 1:00PM. I'm focusing on drinking 2 Premier Protein (30g) shakes, water, and sugar free pudding per day -- thus far, NO ISSUES -- Praise God. TeResa
  6. Hi all! I am 4 weeks post-op and I LOVE my sleeve. It takes some getting used to but once I figured things out it seems to be going pretty well. If given a choice I would choose this option over and over again. I think it takes a while before you get your energy level back to where it was but everyday gets better and better. I think we just need to give our body the chance to recuperate after all this is still major surgery. I just had to share something that happened to me today - need to vent I guess. I am 56 years old and was a chubby child, and always overweight most of my teen and adult years. I don't know about anyone elses experiences but I have been discrimated agains for my weight many many times as a child, teen, and even as an older adult. Many months ago before I started this weightloss journey I had a co-worker who embarassed me in the breakroom at work by pointing out to 3 other co-workers at a table behind me that she couldn't sit with them because obviously there was not enough room between my chair and the chair behind me that she would have to sit somewhere else. Now I heard this with my own ears. Talk about discrimination! I figured hey I know I am a big woman 300 #'s at that time but I sure thought they could look at me and see I was a big mama, I didn't need anyone to point that fact out Right? But what I want to know is how come ignorant people like that can be so quick to point out the negatives but when a person does something positive to improve their health and way of life they don't say anything. Since that time I have lost almost 100 #'s and I see this same co-worker after returning to work, I say Hi and she never even acknowledges my weightloss while other co-workers are saying wow you look great! Go figure I guess. But what I figure is Karma will get her someday!! LOLS. Thanks for listening just needed to get this off my chest I guess.

    Lactose Intolerance And Protein Shakes

Syntrax Nectars are Whey Isolate I think and they are wonderful. I add just a small amount of apple juice to enhance the flavor and I love them! Gold Standard makes a great product as well that is whey isolate. I became lactose intolerant after surgery and cannot eat cheese, yogurt or anything with dairy. But these protein drinks are fine... Living the dream, Laura
  8. Just banded and new to the Forum. Doing well so far...lots of protein drinks!
  9. Good luck!!! look under liquid diet for suggestions on Protein drinks.
  10. Ensure makes some good flavored. Boost's strawberry is good too, but only 10 grams if protein. I just ordered Unjury.

    I want Out!

Awe Louise, ((hugs)) to you! What about getting a switch from the band to another form of WLS - is this an option (or even a solution)?

    I want Out!

Hi Louise... I just wanted to say how sorry I am that you've had so much trouble and I really empathize with your situation. If I were you I would opt for an experienced surgeon that is local if that is an option. Again... sorry you have had such a rough road of it.
  13. I went to Walgreens to look for Protein drinks..only found 2. Boost and ensure..ensure has a lot of sugar I was surprised.. Boost has 4 gms sugar & 16 gms protein. Ensure has 22 gms sugar & 13 gms protein Sent from my iPad using RNYTalk

    Feeling down...but not in weight

Thanks everyone. Yes, I also plan on restarting the Protein shakes to hopefully kickstart things. I have finally been able to resume my pre knee surgery walking/bike riding workouts so that should help, I just have to work back into them slowly. I still need/want to loose about 50 to 75 more pounds to hit my pre-surgery goal. I know I can do it, I just need to refocus. I think one problem is I have been fighting some old demons as far as food and eating habits. I know they are wrong but hard to control sometimes. Food was always my drug per say. I was depressed, I ate, I was angry, I ate, I was bored, I ate...etc. Luckily no depression or anger but I guess I have ADD and get bored easy so I try and stay busy. But sometimes it only takes 5 minutes and for some reason I want to nibble on something. I bought a big pack of sugarfree gum last night. My theory is everytime I want to nibble, chew a piece of gum for awhile. Hopefully it works. Thanks for y'alls help, it means alot. By the way Helen, what is the 5:2 diet? I might need to look into that also. Always looking for ways to vary things daily.

    Feeling down...but not in weight

I am struggling as well. It is harder to lose weight after the first year. This site motivates me to keep pushing. So as a sleevers who that is 23 and half months post op i have to say don't give up. It's a every day battle even with the sleeve especially when you can now eat what you missed out on for 6 to 9 months. I been told over and over to go back to the basic protein shakes. I actually started them today. I like to believe that with my sleeve failure is not a option. Keep pushing you can do it.
  16. Mmmmm that sounds so delish, and good source of extra Protein too! Thank you,I will have to google it!

    Newbie from Houston

Hello, I am new to the Forum. I was banded 3/10/06 and today was my post-op appt. No problems thus far. Tomorrow I get to start mushies. Weighed in today at 192. Incisions were pretty itchy last week but no longer. Sleeping on my side again too. Have been eating soup and protein shakes. I love the protein shakes with Carb Countdown dairy beverage. I think I'll keep drinking them. I have craved pizza and chinese food, I must confess! I'm trying hard to think of the band as my friend now instead of food. Good luck to all of you. This forum has been a wealth of info and support.

    One week out

Started on semi-solid food today. Down 14 pounds. Scared that if I start eating I will not lose weight. I had a half of cup of cream of wheat made with water to save calories but I put protein powder in it to make sure I got my protein in. For lunch I mixed up 1/2 cup cottage cheese 1/2 cup mashed potato and some dry ranch sauce with a scoop of protein powder. Mixed it in blender it was kinda like eating runny mashed potato but it had some taste!!! I ate 1/2 cup and will save the other for dinner. Going very well!!!
  19. What about using fairlife milk? it has 15g of Protein. You could put in oatmeal?

    I'm a newbie!

you really should be carefull with the chololate protein drinks. I can't tolerate them after my surgery. I am not sure if that is for everyone. I have my surgery five days ago and am getting very tired of the liquids.
  21. Hi all--I was "banded" on July 19/06 in New Brunswick, Canada. So far, so good. I am feeling amazingly well, except for the pesky hunger and my craving of all foods solid...I don't ever want to eat broth again...but I suppose I'll have to. And that case of peach Resource (a clear liquid Protein drink) I bought leers at me from the refrigerator every time I open it YUCK. I get my staples out in two days (YAY) and get a fill in about 3 more wks...about the time I was told I could get back solid food:hungry:...an evil trick I think, because don't I have to "eat" liquids again for a few days after a fill? Anyway, I am excited to be starting this journey and thrilled that the lap band will not only help me take off pounds, but THIS time, help me KEEP off the pounds I lose and the many extra pounds that always accompany the ones I lost in the first place! ~Deb
  22. Hi! I originally was going to finance through carecredit at carecredit.com. They do financing for medical procedures. The rates are quite reasonable. There are options from 3 months financing or all the way up to 5 years if I remember correctly. I ended up getting only approved for 1/2 the amount because of my credit history. So now I'm doing financing through my parents. 0% interest for 2 years and reasonable grace period of 15 day lol. No seriously I had to sign a contract with them! Anyway, I would look into carecredit along with the other things people suggest. Good luck!!

    Excited!

Congratulations! There are two things that helped me stick to the liquid diet. 1. I stayed focused on my end goals which was to get healthy and I knew i needed to be strong. 2. I took one hour and one day at a time and tried not to think about how long i would be on strictly liquids. What i found was after day 2, I really did not care anymore and that made it easier to handle. Lastly, I would not have survived without good homemade chicken broth. You get so sick of the sweet taste of the Protein shakes that homemade, well seasoned chicken broth keep me going. I practically lived on it for those 2 weeks and the 3 weeks post op as well. Make it homemade though because that crap in a can tastes like dirty dishwater. Blech! Best of luck to you. Bypass was the best thing I ever did. Now i am about to have my second plastics surgery and I cannot beleive it has already been two years for me.

    Need Help

Welcome Kysia81 Why are you cleaning house so quickly If you must do so - come on over to my house. You just had major surgery, try and take it easy, even if you have small kids - tell them to cool it, so to speak Did your dr. advise you to only eat the above foods, mashed potatoes, eggs, Soup only No clear, liquid diet Drink plenty of Water, don't worry so much about Protein, get plenty of fluids so you don't get dehydrated. All dr. and NUTS are different. Maybe check with yours again. If these are totally his directions, go for for it If your dr. told you to eat only the above - he's the boss. At least he thinks he is all that walking, excercise sound like alike after such a short time, but don't worry the weight will will come off - you must be patient and abiding Good Luck Kathy sorry for the dble post
  25. I am so sad to hear people are having such troubles. I hope and pray all those still so sick one week out start to feel better and things turn around for you all. I had my 3 surgeries gallbladder, hernia and sleeve on Tuesday Jan 26th. This was the first surgeries I ever had. It took 2 hours and I was in recovery for 3 hour. I was very sick with pain on Tuesday and even Wednesday. I ate 1 Jello the whole 2 days I was there. I was given a nausea patch the night before surgery for behind my ear. I had 30 mg of dilaudid in recovery and for the rest of Tuesday and Wednesday. I had one incident of dry heaves. By Thursday I was feeling great and was able to go home. Have been able to get my 60 to 80 grams of protein in each day since Friday. I know each person reacts differently but I was very pleased with my recovery and seriously doubt I will need the 4 to 6 weeks the dr told me to take. Tuesday I get to eat my first real food since Jan 24th an egg. I am not the least bit hungry and have no head hunger what so ever. I have lost 17 pounds since Jan 26th.
