5-8 weeks out from surgery: Nesting Mode
princessprotein posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi guys & gals, My name is Bonnie, I am 26 years old and 380lbs at the moment. Skip the next paragraph if you don't care about my whiney health history. Health history: I actually only have sleep apnea as a co-morbidity. Decent bp, pulse, blood sugar. My choice for bariatric surgery also has nothing to do with self image as I have been for years an extraordinarily confident woman. Unfortunately for me (& my family who rely son my care taking) I have been dealing with unexplained neuropathy in my limbs and extremely debilitating back pain for about two years. I now walk like my 94 year old nana lol. Doctors take one look at my large body and immediately dismiss my pain and issues, like my neurologist actually prescribed me a weight loss drug and walked out without even discussing a single issue I was having. Those who push thru with chronic pain are my heroes. I am not a strong enough human to deal with this pain on a daily basis and I also do not chose to use Rx pain killers (family history of substance abuse) so I've chosen drastic weight loss as a last ditch effort to have a life free of crippling pain. Prepping: total nesting mode! I've been researching for months. Collecting tools and other stuff. I really wish I had friends to share & taste test with. I'm absolutely excited to start living life without pain. I'm hoarding Protein, bought a blender, made lists and notebooks, last on my list is planning a stretchy versatile weight loss wardrobe that will fit my needs for at least the next 80 lbs. I'm thinking leggings, tank tops, and large loose long sleeved blouses. I'm so thankful to find this app for my phone. It's been like a prayer answered. Even in the middle of the night I sneak on and search stuff easing my obsessive mind frame. thank you Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I have no idea, I'm so thankful I don't have two weeks of that...just do your best, God Bless!!!

I am on two week all liquids and this is day 4. Having some g2 helps me if I feel weak. I have also cut back on activities. Keep drinking the fluids that helps me some as well.

Congratulations! That's so exciting that you'll have the surgery right before the new year. What a blessing! I'm going through the process and hope to have my surgery in March or April. I've only told three people: my husband, mother and a good friend. Of course they're worried about the surgery; there's a risk with any type of surgery and this procedure is no exception. So I'm sure your mother and grandmother will be concerned as well. Just assure them that you've done your research, have spoken with your doctors, and that you feel this will be, in the long run, a great benefit to your health and improvement to your life. They'll probably have a lot of questions, so be prepared to answer them, tell them approximately how many bariatric surgeries are performed every year and the average success rate, etc. In the end, you have to do what's best for you and your quality of life. And if you are content and excited about your decision, I think they'll be on board, too!

kimrox2000 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi my name is Kim and I was Banded 9-13-06 in Mexico. I go tomorrow for my first fill. I lost 25 punds right off the bat and then nothing for a month, I gained about 3 pounds back. My Dr said my band was "fluffy" and I would need a fill at 6-8 weeks. Boy do I ever. Wish me luck for tomorrow.. -
protein bars - my experience, for what it's worth
bakawaka posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find Atkins bars and Shaklee Protein bars very helpful for business travel. They are low-carb, low-fat and low-calorie. They are full of Fiber. They keep blood sugar stable and control cravings. I use them during long flights of eight hours or more. Of course, I prefer real food, but with business travel, it is not always convenient. Downside of protein bars: flatulence. But they do control my hunger. I commute every other week between Europe and the US for work (one of the reasons I gained weight). Protein Bars have truly helped. I also know exactly the amount of my sodium intake. I cannot advocate protein bars for everyday use over real food. But I consider them superior to high-fat, high-sugar, high-carb processed food when on the road. For Breakfast in hotel buffets: I eat boiled eggs, smoked salmon and cheese. -
Not losing, confused and frustrated
mom2wils posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I'm about a month and a half post band to sleeve revision (5/10 surgery) and I'm feeling very frustrated and confused about my lack of weight loss. I started at 236 and shortly after surgery (2 weeks postop) was down to 220. I'm now down to 214. I haven't moved for about a month. I was logging my food whole hog at the beginning but fell off the wagon for a couple of weeks but in the past week have gotten back at it in order to get a handle on things. At my last follow up appt my surgeon asked how much Protein I was taking in (when he found out I stalled) and I told him I was aiming for around 60 grams. He told me to only aim for 40. That seems counterintuitive to me especially being pre-diabetic with PCOS. His office doesn't have a NUT so I only have him to rely on. At this point I'm beyond frustrated. He wants me down another 20 lbs by the time I go back to see him in a month. Everyone else on here seems to have the weight melt off and I'm sitting here much like I was before with the band - feeling very frustrated and wondering why I did this. I'm committed to tracking my intake, getting more exercise, and getting my protein in but beyond that I'm at a loss. Any suggestions - especially from those who have done a band to sleeve conversion?? Thanks for "listening"..... -

My doc told me to increase Protein, not decrease. So weird! He also said if you're in a stall, to up the calories for 2-3 days, then drop back down, that should get things moving again. Plus exercise is important, maybe switch up your routine? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Pre-Op Protein Suggestions

Advocare meal replacement powder chocolate flavor. It was great! After surgery you won't need meal replacement just protein so I just bought 2 weeks worth -
Sleeved 4/13, had period since 6/8
MissKay replied to brittanyandrea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been spotting the last week and a half, and I just had my surgery June 13th. I haven't had much of a period the last five years due to PCOS. It's truly all about the hormones! When you're losing the weight, you're getting an overload of hormones, thus your body reacts. -
Actual rate of weight loss - 12 weeks out
HumanMerelyBeing posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know this is always a point of interest for people, so here is a little more data to add to your collection. This is my actual weekly weight loss with an average of 3.3 lbs per week since the day of surgery: Highest weight (July 2013) = 283 1st day Pre-op Diet (Jan 22nd 2014) = 270 (-13) Day of Surgery (Feb 4th 2014) = 254.5 (-15.5) Post Op Data by Week: Week 1 = 244.4 (-10.1) Week 2 = 244.4 (-0.0) Week 3 = 244.4 (-0.0) Week 4 = 241.2 (-3.2) MO 1 = -13.3 Week 5 = 238.2 (-3.0) Week 6 = 235.0 (-3.2) Week 7 = 232.2 (-2.8) Week 8 = 229.9 (-2.3) MO 2 = -11.3 Week 9 = 227.2 (-2.7) Week 10 = 221.8 (-5.4) Week 11 = 220.2 (-1.6) Week 12 = 214.8 (-5.4) MO 3 = -15.1 So there you have it, it really does add up over time, even with some frustrating stall weeks. Keep on plugging, everybody! -
fat free/low fat rigatta cheese with a little sauce and fat free mozerella melted in was divine when i had my band and went through this. I still have a week before these foods but its not so bad because I think I really didnt eat much with the band so my body was more used to it!

Casie83 replied to HumanMerelyBeing's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for sharing! I too lost 11lbs the first week then nothing in week 2. I was so bummed. I'm almost 3 weeks but trying to weigh only once a week. Congratulations on your progress! -
NYU dietician suggested up to six premier Protein shakes and 2 cups of vegetables a day. 2 tbsp fat free dressing. coffee with artificial sweetener and skim milk, sugar free popsicles. No carbs. I lost 10 pounds in two weeks and was never hungry. Those shakes are the best ones IMO. Sent from my Nexus 10 using the BariatricPal App

international travel soon after surgery?
gigglypug replied to elynnmo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
One more comment: If you chose to go ahead with the surgery, I'd strongly recommend getting travel insurance. I would imagine the Africa trip is quite a financial commitment and this way you have at least some peace of mind. Complications, while unlikely, are still a possibility and you also don't know how you'll feel (people here report needing to use pain meds anywhere from not at all to two weeks...). Are you heading into the bush or staying close to civilization? I postponed my first fill because I was heading to the Galapagos the next week and didn't want to risk needing an emergency unfill so far from any medical care. Dealing with the lap band requires special equipment/needles that are not likely to be found in many developing countries. I can appreciate your impatience to get started. Realize that lap band works over months or years and that two weeks more or less are not likely to matter in the long run... -
Hello, I am new to the forums as of a few minutes ago. I thought I would join as I have read a few posts already! I am awaiting my date fr my lap band surgery, I met with my surgeon already and enjoyed the seminar they held at his facility. I have my first nurtritionist appt. this thurs. and then the appt. with the psychologist, then I get my date. I am nervous about it, but at the same time excited about things to come. I need words of encouragement here! I hope I am successful at this. I have been on a healthy diet for 3 weeks now & feeling great!

How much weight did you lose on your liquid diet?
KristenLe replied to Color83's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@Color83 I think it also depends on what you were doing in terms of dieting prior to the pre-op (how much Water weight did you have to lose, etc.). I start mine 10/4/16 - I have no expectations but would be thrilled for 10 lbs (in 2 weeks). -
I was just thinking this same thing driving home from the mall. I telecommute so I don't usually have to worry about work clothes, but I have a conference coming up in a week. I had to go shopping and I just wanted to cry. So tired of buying fat clothes. I wish this surgery was over yesterday. I have my consultation at the end of the month, but will have to wait until January for various reasons. I am just ready to start my new life. I have been researching and thinking for almost a year too, so I hear ya!

Stomach binder
Sassy Little Redhead replied to Quest4TheNewMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't wear one immediately post op but I'm a RN and went back to work 10 days post op. It saved me while working! I only wore it at work for about 2 weeks after going back. -

New sleeve ! Day 4 ! Feel like crap !
Comeflywithme replied to making_a_change_'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow...ice cream?? Tsk Tsk Tsk... live and learn sweety. Stick to Clear liquids, broth, sugar free pops, Jello, and i guarantee in about 2 days you'll feel good and in 5 days you'll feel almost like your old self, but lighter. Stay positive and walk walk walk, that's the ONLY thing that really helps gas/bloating pain. Walk every two hours, especially after eating/drinking anything and drink very small sips. I am 6 weeks out today and feel AMAZING!! Have lost 21 lbs since surgery down 2 dress sizes, have more energy now, no pain, eat real food (tiny amounts which I am good with) and feel terrific and happy. Good luck! -
Since getting sleeved 2 weeks ago I've had TERRIble bad breath. What's causing this???

Vitamins/supplements
Bufflehead replied to Gina.marie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That sounds like a money-making scam. I bought vitamins on my own. I had vitamins/minerals I was taking on my own before surgery: iron, B12, D3, folic acid. I generally buy those wherever I can get them cheapest. The important thing with iron is to not use time-release or slow-release formulas. I did use liquid iron for the first four weeks after surgery. Post-surgery I added in a multi-vitamin and calcium. For the first four weeks after surgery I did liquid forms of each (Wellesse - purchased through Amazon). After that, I switched to Trader Joe's chewable High Potency Multi-Vitamins and Citracal Petites (or the generic version my supermarket sells). For the first year after surgery I took a double dose of the multi's, then switched to a regular single dose. My surgeon's office also tried to sell me a huge, terribly over-priced vitamin package. I refused. I've had my labs drawn regularly since surgery and they have always been great.
