    Lap band removed!

I’m having revision on December 17th. Congrats n your journey!!
  2. not many surgeons will place lapbands anymore - too many people have had complications with them years after surgery and had to revise to sleeve or bypass. So I agree revising to something else is a better option for you.

    Valentine's Challenge

Challenge start 288 Last week 282 This week 279 -3 I think it might even be a tad lower then that but TMI I'm a bit 'backed up' lol So I made my challenge goal of 280! I would like to revise it to 275. I've lost 9 pounds so far with this challenge and I know ill probably hit a little stall since I've lost so much, but think 275 is doable!

    Feeling like a faliure...

I don't know how well the band worked for you, but mine wasn't so great - had it for 10 years of pretty lousy actually. I did take the time to contemplate how I contributed to "failure" and one mistake I vowed to never make again was to blame myself and not seek help and support. I think it is great you have asked here and I think you should be very straight forward with your doctor. Don't be embarrassed, you need help! I am guessing he has seen all variations - fast and slow losers etc. I think that you might benefit from some sessions with a nutritionalist or even therapist. Reality of it is, you might be slower loser then you were with the band, or compared to some other sleevers. That is painful to accept, but honestly does it matter? I have lost 160# due to my revision, does anyone really think it matters how long it took? The journey is far from over for me even, because i am now in maintenance... in other words, there never is an "end" it is all a process, an ongoing way of living. So, ;practical advice, get yourself a sleeve guidebook (usually provided by your surgeon or NUT) and follow it as closely as you can! Who cares about Cookies, this is your health and life on the line here! Even doing that, it might be more slow and steady, but you will eventually make your goal weight. I think it took me 3 months post op to really get in the total groove with my sleeve. Nerves are damaged, I was dehydreated, sometimes I felt hungrier than I should, sometimes I had no appetite... all over the board. The key is to be eating the dense Proteins. I am talking fish, chicken, sandwhich meat etc etc. If you aren't hungry for a slice of sandwich meat wrapped in a piece of lettuce, are you really hungry? That goes along ways to filling you up and makes it easier to eat properly. There are lots of "sleeve basics" that i presume you know, but following them really does help. hang in there and don't give up!

I can relate for sure! One thing that really rang true for me was getting my first fill, it was painful even with fluoro and that was when I decided the only way I was going to get another was if they numbed me first - voila much more comfortable! I have had two more fills since then that have been numbed first. I should also say that I had a regular port for the first 5 months and then on November 19th I had a port revision and now have a low profile port. So that being said, there is no shame in getting a numbing shot first before you next fill - I was very adamant about it when I spoke to my surgeon and he finally understood how painful it was for me. I understand about losing focus and I struggle every day. I try to just track my food intake, exercise - even if it is only for 20 minutes at a time. Good luck, be assertive with your needs in regards to your fills and take good care of yourself

Thanks...good advise..why did you need a port revision??
  7. The possible saving grace, is that people who want to test run the sleeve, can revise to RNY. (I understand it would be a second surgery and all that that brings.) I do think I'd follow surgeon's advise. I do believe it's smart to preop investigate the cause.
  8. WOW!! Alot of great info! I go Thursday, Aug 16th, band to sleeve revision. I am both excited and alittle scared!
  9. I had Band to Sleeve revision on 12/9/2013. I had my 1 month post-op yesterday and have lost 36.6lbs. Able to move to any foods just slowly and carefully. Surgery Weight: 306 Today: 269.4
  10. I need to give a little back story here. My husband is 26 (will be 27 on Sunday), he's a great looking, attractive, naturally fit/lean guy. He's 6'0" and 165lbs dripping wet. He is currently deployed to Afghanistan and will be returning late September/early October (4 months after my post op revision). Ever since I told him I was moving forward with the revision surgery, his mentality has changed. He's working out, weightlifting to what I consider an extreme. He's bragged that he's "getting bigger" and I will be able to see a difference. I asked him "why are you working out?" He brushed it off that he was was just "passing the time". Now today, he has ordered a whey Protein supplement online from a bodybuilding website. He overpaid for what he is getting, and the email I sent, once the email confirmation came through, let him know that he overpaid for something I could of gotten here and shipped to him for less. I could care less about the money, or that he had ordered a supplement, just the fact that I asked him about that a couple weeks ago, he said he had no desire to "bulk up". My question is: Have any of ya'll experienced this with your husband/significant other? I almost feel like he is threatened by the fact that I will be losing weight. Kind of like he wants or feels the need to 'one up' me. We've never had jealousy/insecurity issues in our relationship/marriage. We've dealt with long distance relationship for over half of 3 years together. This is our 1st deployment as a married couple, I'm just really perplexed by all of this. He isn't the work out type. He hates working out when he is here. He has always loved me for me regardless of my pant size. He was and still is extremely supportive of my WLS decisions. He has mentioned a few times about me changing, but after the initial surgery back in October all of that was never mentioned again. We did talk about me sending him progress pictures. He decided that he wanted it to be a surprise. . . I just need to know if this is normal. I kind of feel like he is threatened by the thought of me losing weight. He knows that I get hit on now as a "hot fat chick". I feel like he is doubting me, or my fidelity, and he wants to make sure when he comes home that I am going to still want him, or even worse that he is the "better looking half". I may be overthinking all of this, but I can't shake this feeling that something other than "passing the time" is the driving force behind his 5-6 day a week working out/weightlifting. Thanks for any input. I appreciate it. . .

Nici6, what are your plans once healed? Are you considering revising to another WLS? Glad you're thru surgery and on the road to recovery!

    Reversal

This is so sad! I had the sleeve on 5/21/12 and have been having issues with GERD and acid reflux, bile reflux and esophageal spasms. I was told by my surgeon that the only solution FOR GERD is to convert to bypass. NO WAY. I told him no and I mean that. Only way I will do anything is if I get an ulcer or something. As of now, I don't have one. I will take my chances with the sleeve. Seems Gastric Bypass surgery just brings on more and more problems. Even years after having it. I am 18 months out from the sleeve on the 21st. I see a few people on there that are doing revisions from sleeve to bypass and I pray it works out for them. I feel for you ladies. I feel sad reading your post. I pray for you to get better and be able to gain weight and have your life back. So sorry this has happend to you. God bless you!!

    Reversal

Wow... I didn't know there was a forum for us reversed peeps. I had rny in 2001, reversed due gi bleeds primary, as I was going to die, secondary was long term nutritional deficiencies that caused irreversible neurological/cognitive disabilities, but would've died in 2010 without reversal and I probably was the heaviest person to ever need one and had the labs of a person starving to death. My surgeon who is brilliant didn't give me a hard time at my heaviest when I gained almost all my weight back back due to meds, starting at almost 7 years post rny. I was a size 24 again in early 2010 when I begged him for a revision, because if I had to be that sick for so long, I didn't want to be that heavy, even though I had a technically performed perfect rny. He refused saying that I was sicker than Obesity could ever be a threat to me and 5 months later when he brought up a reversal to save my life , I was ready and was going to die by then after living with complications for 7 + years that just were getting even worse. And that were going to kill me . Reversals ARE a dangerous and risky procedure, by the nature of why they are needed. I am not anti-wls and I'm not even anti gastric bypass. But I am around for support which is crucial, when going through this. I didn't know anyone who had a reversal at the time of mine. And even while my wls peeps tried to support me, they didn't know how not knowing anyone else who had one, either..... As "L Colendrea" said there is a support group on Facebook, started by my FB bud Misty (who also blogs and vlogs "life in my in my frankenbelly) and I blog , too about my reversal, as well....
  15. Not sure about food but, I used vitamin e oil after my sleeve with good results. This is what I plan to do since my recent revision once incisions are healed enough as well. The oil is pricey. I just get the bit e vitamins and cut one end of the gel capsule to apply. Much less expensive this way.

iBand convert to a Gastric Sleeve?

It's a good thing that I moved ahead with the revision. It turned out that my band had slipped and I had some stomach prolapse. Also, I needed an additional hiatal hernia repair. Keep in touch and I'll let you know how recovery goes. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Lying about not getting surgery is awful

I wanted to chime in here to give another perspective.. first, of course you don't have to tell anyone you had surgery...its up to you to disclose you medical history. That being said, I tell everyone who asks. The reason being- I was soooo super scared of having surgery that I put it off for years and everyone I ever talked to about losing weight said that they did it "the natural way"..IT WAS A TOTAL LIE. I had people come up to me afterwards and tell me they had it done too but never tell people. I would have loved to to speak to more people who had it done and I wish I had done it sooner. Now I tell people who ask "how I did it" the truth. I don't care how they react but maybe I'll help someone who was like me. Also I just had a revision surgery from sleeve to bypass and I plan on sharing that as well. Disclose what you would to who you like ...but remember how you felt before you had surgery & don't say it was "the natural way" if someone is looking for advice on losing their weight.

Does Your Band Stop Your Hunger

No with the sleeve food does not get stuck. You can eat anything you want, just not very much of it. You do get full pretty fast. I am kind of a grazer though. I get full pretty fast, but then maybe a couple hours later, I might have a healthy snack. There are some days I just don't feel like messing with food or cooking or dishes and I will have 3 Protein shakes per day and be perfectly satisfied. I didn't start having band problems until after I had the band for a couple of years. I could just see more problems coming, so I revised to the sleeve before that started happening. I am really glad I did.

    Reversal

Hello I am going through the same thing. I had the sleeve 5 years ago and due to acid reflux and my esophagus was collapsing I had to have a revision to the bypass 14 months ago . I'm a 105lbs now and want to stop losing. I have been having issues since I had the revision. I just had a pick line in that I gained 20lbs and 3 weeks later it was gone. At first it was diarrhea and now its vomiting. I seemed to can't get a break. I felt great with the pick line in but that is dangerous walking around with a IV in your arm feeding you dripping over your heart. My gallbladder was taken out on 2/9/15. I just had my 3rd EDG on Monday since my surgery and they found nothing again. I am trying to stay positive but this is getting very hard and expensive. So I know what you are going through but because I had the sleeve and then revised to the bypass I can not have the reversal due to my stomach was thrown away. I am so malnourished and now they want to put me back on the pick line (TPN) again. I don't know what to do anymore. I am miserable.
  22. skin is wrinkly I'm a mom of 3 my belly is still flattish considering I had my TT 10 years ago I'm due for a revision but that's just me being picky I guess
  23. @Cynisca, thank you for your honest opinion. I have always been a person that dots all my i's and cross my t's. I obtained one of the best bariatric surgeons in the state. He did an endoscopy and a barium test on me. The test came back and showed what I knew in my heart all along, there was way too much stomach left. So this doctor was not only rude, he failed to do my surgery correctly. Even though I feel this is an open and shut case of malpractice, all I want is my surgery done over and for my insurance company and the big group of doctors he works with to know what he did. My insurance plan did not cover revision surgery, but through God's grace, they approved me for revision. Now I'm in talks with the hospital. I told them I shouldn't have to pay another penny out of pocket for something one of their doctors didn't do right. The doctor I'm with now recently became apart of this group of doctors with my old surgeon. I prayed about it and asked him could he be fair with me and truthful about what his colleague did or didn't do. So far I have been very pleased with him. My revision surgery is January 21, 2019.
