    My Drain

I had my drain removed last week and my doc said I could put a band-aid on it for a few days for the oozing. It's healing up now.

    A whole lot of Protein!

I had to do protein shakes a week before surgery but never clear liquid until after. I was told 60-80 protein but I am also tall (5'10") and have read in the past that the taller you are the more you need. I am struggling to get the protein in. Good luck
  4. I'm told my op will be October 25 but setting everything up then gets confirmed next week. I'm type 1 diabetic living in Perth WA if anyone wants to chat.

    Stomach Sleepers

I will also mention that at 3 weeks out I was completely on my stomach. It was sore but I had too! Revision was 8/31/15

    Stomach Sleepers

I am also a stomach sleeper! It's funny because between weeks 2-3 some nights were fine and then some still hurt. But now, 3 weeks out, it's totally fine. The one thing I would say though is to make sure it's been at least an hour or so since you've eaten. Otherwise it might hurt. Sweet dreams!
  7. Buy yourself a double jogger, load it up with Water, Snacks for the kids and get outside and walk! These years are sooo hard and its exactly at this time that I gained most of my weight. I exercised when I had one, but with a newborn and a toddler, I became very sedentary. Running round with the kids all day does not count. I'd also highly recommend wearing a pedometer and making sure you get your 10,000 steps - but 10,000 a day is a pretty meagre goal for weight loss, you should get that just in incidental activity and then exercise on top of it. Seven is early, sorry to say. I know that feeling when you're spent and you dont want to exercise but there's PLENTY of time to head out for a walk or a run at that time of the evening, especially while its summer over there in your part of the world. Just get out the door. Within weeks I promise, you'll cope so much better with the exhausting challenge of raising children. I have to exercise at home - gym just does not work for me with 3 kids. I have a treadmill and some weights, and I do what I need to at home, at night, in front of the telly with my kids and my DH right there. A 2 year old, whooo, that's challenging though, treadmills and stuff can be dangerous with little kids around that dont know not to touch. I also spent long periods of time going to the gym and just putting my kids in the creche there while I was there. Is there a gym around with childcare? You also have two entire days on the weekend when your partner is around to do something for yourself, then if you get out for a good hour long walk 2 to 3 times a week you've made a great start. Pushing a pram is fantastic exercise! I hope I dont sound unsympathetic but really where there's a will there's a way. There is absolutely no reason to not take that time for yourself , you just have to make it family friendly. I really did look at it at first as I had time to sit on the comptuer for about forty minutes every morning, then I could give up that time and exercise instead. I'm sure you'd find there IS time during the day or you CAN get out and do it after they've gone to bed.
  8. Just like the others posting here, I would like to know some more details on the LapBand, especially the "down" sides. I have been a Type I Diabetic for over 44 years now. My weight has just stopped coming off, no matter what I do. I exercise several times a week and try and watch what I eat . . . most times. But it just stays stuck! I've been on an insulin pump for about 8 years now, and earlier last year, tried a continuous glucose sensor. I test my blood sugars 6-8 times a day. I'm starting to hear . . .and "feel" . . . more stories about heart disease, strokes, etc. for diabetics. For the first time in my life, I have had to start on Cholestral medication ~ even with my inordinately extreme amount of "good guy" HDLs. I need some help in losing weight and have just found out about Lap Bands . . .but still concerned how they work with Diabetes ~ especially low blood sugars if you are not eating as much. And after awhile, do they stop working? Thanks for any help you can supply me.

    Stomach sleepers.

I comfortably slept on my stomach again about 4 weeks out. It was once my incision stopped being painful. For me, the incision that they pulled my stomach out through was the most painful for the longest.
  10. I had a follow up with the surgeon's office today. They submitted my info to insurance last week seeking authorization. 2 hours before my appointment, they got the call that I was approved! I really thought they might have to fight a little. My BMI is 40, but they required 5 years of obesity. I've been a yo yo dieter since I was like 9 years old. When I looked over my 5 year history with the doctors office, there were years I was in a decent range and then years I wasn't. She said it went through smoothly though. I have thought about surgery many times over the past 15 years, but I always decide against it. In November of last year, I decided enough was enough, it was time to pursue. I felt so discouraged though when they said I had to wait six months and do the supervised diet. My first appointment wasn't until January. The six months wasn't too bad. I was wishy washy a bit during that time. Do I really need to go this route? Is it too extreme? Will it even work for me? And it gave me enough time to come to a firm decision that this is the right move. I only recently told my husband about it. He probably thinks the process went very quickly. They gave me a surgery date of July 20th today. However, I think I need to change it and go the following week if they can. I'm supposed to go away that weekend and I doubt I'd be up for that. I'm considering cancelling our trip instead. I'll see what my husband says tonight. I really am excited! I can't believe my life is about to change! I get to be ME again and break out of this awful prison shell of a body!!!
  11. I love Dr. Khaitan. I was sleeved on April 2, 2015 at UH Geauga. Follow her plan and you will do great. She is so thorough and worked with my GP and pulmonary for my sleep apnea to get all my ducks in a row. I went February 16th and six weeks later I had my surgery. I also had my gallbladder out at the same time. I did have buyer remorse for awhile and went thru depression. But once my GP got my anxiety meds adjusted and I upped my Vitamin B12 and D and got my exercise in I started feeling better than ever. I have lost 100 lbs. and I work at it everyday to maintain. Now I am so happy I had my sleeve done! Sent from my SM-G930P using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. Hi Everyone! I am getting sleeved on 09/14, and I'm finishing up the paperwork for my FMLA and time out of work. When I asked my surgeon, he said that 2 weeks at home should be sufficient for me if I didn't want to take a lot of time out of work. I have a desk job, and the ability to work from home, so I spend most of my day sitting and never really lift anything. I know that everyone is different as far as recovery goes, but I am just curious as to how long everyone else took? Did you think it was sufficient? I am in a management position and when I leave I feel like everything gets out of order and I panic! Any insight is appreciated!
  13. Hi! I am in the pre-op phase and my surgery is in a week! How did/do you cope with nerves? I'm doing good with sticking with the diet plan thus far, however, I'm still craving my favorites. Help!!

    Pain reliever

I've had no problems with alleve. Of course, I only took it when needed during that first week. My mom, who has MS, and was sleeved last week took it and had no problems. It really helped. Sleeve patients can continue use of NSAIDs AFTER surgery... Bypass patients can't. All NSAIDs cause problems with the stomach over time, which is why alleve is better than ibuprofen( same dosage, longer effectiveness). I suppose it differs from patient to patient, especially if you have acid reflux. I have a high threshold for pain, and stopped taking the pain medicine on day two. The gas pain was horrible and alleve... once a day for 3 days following helped tremendously. I also had acid reflux and Zantac helped for that. If your doctor told you no NSAIDs then I would follow their instructions. My doctor told me it was fine, told my mother it was fine and we both were glad we were able to! My gas pain was definitely lessened when we did. It's best to check with your doctor. Good luck, I hope you feel better.
  15. I live in Texas and my surgery was done on 11/11/11 (easy day to remember, huh). That was 3 weeks ago today. I have lost only 7 pounds in those 3 weeks. This was disappointing to me but after reading everyone else's experience I guess that is normal. My first fill is scheduled for next Thursday, 12/9. I cant wait! I loved the way I was not hungry and did not even think about food right after the surgery. I want that feeling to come back. My surgeon was Dr John Marsden and I was so pleased. He is not only caring and concerned about my journey, he has a great sense of humor and you are instantly comfortable with him. I am a little different than a lot of his patients in that I am starting my journey weighing 200 pounds and my goal is 130. I have only 70 pounds to lose. Afraid of being criticized I have only told 2 people (outside my family) about the surgery. But I am only 5'2" tall and I have a small frame so Im not carrying the extra weight very well. When I got married 21 years ago I weighed 120 and my wedding dress was size 8P. My goal is to get back into that dress. Since I dont have a support group of friends Im excited about this online support group.
  16. Hi everyone, I am Emma and I had my gastric band fitted 7 weeks ago. I had my first fill today. So far I have lost 2 stone. I am looking forward to meeting you all and sharing experiences xxx :wink2:

    I've fallen off the wagon.

I did awesome on my 2 week pre op but then knowing it was my last full mean for a long long time I went out to Chilies and had way to much to eat. I then went to the Gym to make up for it so it was even. The point is its normal to have slips just fix it when you can and learn from the mistake. I still had my surgery and am doing awesome so far.

    June 9, 2013.......week 3

I went to my second of two psychologist's visits. Yoohoo!! I got clearance from him!! And this time, he didn't bother asking me any crazy questions like "Have you ever been small?" I saw my coordinator at the grocery store....she had a bypass and lost over a hundred pounds a few years ago.... she reassured me that she feels 99.9999999% sure that I'll be approved. When she gets my "Letter of Medical Necessity" and psych clearance, as well as nutritionist's clearance - she'll send it on up to BC/BS. Another woman that I work with (same insurance) just got approved....and I believe my BMI, sadly enough, is much higher than hers. So, it's really going to happen..........I'm going to do this - despite the naysayers who are telling me I'm mutilating my body, I shouldn't mess with what God gave me, etc. How do you respond to these people? Anyways - until the next update.... So, here's the weekly progress: June 9, 2013 8 weeks post op - Highest weight: 320.2 Current weight: 315.2 Goal weight: 172 Height: 5'10" My weekly diet modifications: Go entirely to decaf coffee. My weekly behavioral modifications: One night this week - no snacking or grazing after dinner.

    Hair Loss

I had my surgery Dec. 21. 2011 and I started noticing that my edges were getting thin about 2 weeks ago. I just started using castor oil on them and it seems to be working. I'll really be able to tell after more use, but I think it's working.

    Help Feeling Sick!!

Call your surgeon's office. You are at higher risk for respiratory complications, and anesthesia may not want to put you under. I caught a cold the Friday before my Tuesday banding (3/25/08) and was sure it was nothing major, and that it would be over by Monday (it was). I called the surgeon's office and they postponed my surgery a week. I had been on a liquid pre-op diet for two weeks, and it wasn't enough time to go off it and back on, so I ended up on that an extra week, so by surgery day I had already lost 35 pounds. Don't put yourself at risk. Call.:cursing:
  23. :scared2:has anybody had a cold or sore throat going into surgery? i think i am fighting one off the right side of my throat is sore and i see a few white spots on it. i am chugging emergen-c plus i am drinking 4 boost high Protein shakes a day because i am on a 2 week pre op liquid diet. im so scared that if i am a little under the weather they will send me packing on june 11th my lapband surgery day i don't know what to do!!! im freaking out slightly!! XOXOX Barbie
  24. I had my consultation this morning and it went well. My BMI is 41 so I am not expecting major ins complications. The only issue was that my DR. practiced in California 4 years ago and said at that time they required 6 month supervised diet. I know of 3 in our company that had the surgery and this was not required. I spoke to BCBS last week and they just told me as long as you have a 40 bmi and psych eval then I should have no problems. Anyone have recent experience with BCBS CA? Greg
