    Insurance question

Yep...call, be very, very polite and charming they can't get too upset about a polite inquiry. I probably could be post op right now if I would have called when I thought things were taking too long. I found out I was forgotten for a few weeks at one of the steps. When I called, I got the appointment date I was needing the next day.
  2. I'm 24 and ready for surgery in January. No set date yet and haven't started the 2 week liquid/protein diet yet but I'm mentally preparing myself for these big changes! If anyone can give me advice on how to keep my hunger down before and after surgery that'd be awesome! Idk what all the letters mean but at my heaviest I was 355 I am currently 322 and a healthy goal weight overall is for me to weigh 180! I want to be really toned not just slim. I've always been really active and have lost weight earlier this year doing Crossfit, even earned the nickname Cross-Whit But now when I just go walking my knees start to hurt and I'm just ready to lose weight and get rid of the weight for good. I'm mostly just typing my thoughts to connect to others and find out what's helping others lose the most weight the fastest! Haha Also it'd be nice to have support from others that have already experienced the surgery. I have always wanted to be smaller and healthier and have always tried to lose weight but living in Louisiana it's hard to stay away from all the good eating! Hahahah Most recent full body pic! diabetics

I was off all diabetic meds a week before surgery due to liquid diet. After surgery they would check my sugar frequently and I was always had good numbers.

Foods I Need To Know About

Sodas are no nos after bypass because of the gas and stretching your pouch. Popcorn would be really rough. Being a week post op I'm cringing lol. I would think eventually a puff kind in small amounts maybe ok. Also I found these great popcorn Special K chips. I'm about six months from them now but I will use them as a substitute if I need too.

    Psych Consult

My psych appointments went really well. The psych I saw is very easy to talk to. The first vist was mostly to get to know each other. She asked questions about why I wanted the LB and about the reasons I feel I am overweight and have never been able to keep weight off before. The second visit we went more into my emotional eating problems, and what the problems stem from. I am going back about every 3 weeks until at least I have the procedure done, maybe longer. This is my own choosing. It was very easy if you ask me. I hope to use these visits for my future with being banded.
  8. My dr put me on the 2 week pre-op mostly liquid diet, and asked that I try to lose 10 lbs before surgery. Well after 3 days I've lost about 7.5 lbs. I'm fairly close to the 40 BMI cutoff (I only had 15 lbs before going under 40) and am afraid that if I go under the 40 BMI that insurance won't cover the procedure. Has anyone run into this? I have BCBS of MA if that matters.

    Size 22 to a size 16

Same here, I was size 20, 2xl, and now wearing size 14 - 16, depending on the clothing, or a large in tops. Shopping is pretty fun now, right? I'm in a stall but still dropping some inches so I guess I'll wait it out until I start losing again.
  11. Hi! I was banded 3 weeks ago. Feel free to pm me if you'd like to talk. Best of luck to you-Gigi

    Young and hungry

First and foremost congratulations on your decision to make your life better you are gorgeous! You are going to rock it no doubt. I am going to join crossfit in the upcoming weeks. I'm so intimidated to go in there and be the "fat girl" I don't want to be looked down on in there because I'll be so out of my element as is. Can you tell me what it's like? What to expect? Gurgling stomach

My tummy loves to talk. When I have my first sip in the morning. You will have to be patient. Every tummy is different. At three I couldn't eat eggs or yogurt and such. At 7 weeks, I still can not eat an egg. Concentrate on you fluids and you will see it get better. Later loser!
  14. Hang in there it will get better i had my done 2 weeks ago and I felt the same way but it will pass just think about how good you will feel once the weight comes off. That is my motivation right now not feeling knee pain as much and having more energy for my two kids.

Pre-op Diet Starting on Christmas Eve

Im allowed 2 shakes and a low carb dinner my first week of pre-op. If you are allowed to have regular food at all just stay away from breads/sweets/starches.....carbs. Im getting revision-sleeved Dec 16th, so my Xmas will REALLY SUCK...lol. but you may have some flexibility depending on the doctors orders. Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App

    Young and hungry

I'm following this thread to get the same info. I'm 27 and at 350 right now. I'm scheduled for January 18th, which means that I would start my liquid diet on January 4th. However, I work during the week so I think that I may actually start the liquid diet on New Years Eve. I've heard that the first 4 days are rough, so I want to start over a period where I have a 4 day weekend off from work, so that if I'm exhausted/cranky I can just be at home and go to bed. That way, when the 4th rolls around, I am passed the more difficult part. Plus, I would like to lose some extra weight prior to surgery! Let me know if you want to be accountability buddies, since we have a similar surgery date and starting weight! Also, I love that top in your picture. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    First nervous steps..

I'm a vegetarian as well. Been veggie for 18 yrs. I was just sleeved last week so I really can't advise you with how long you would need to take off. I an tell you I started at 225 and accent weighed myself. I'm still pretty swollen in my belly but I feel really good today. Exactly one week post op. I'm a hairstylist and am scheduled to start taking clients next week. If I were in your profession I might take an extra week or two off just in case. Good luck with everything.
  19. I had my surgery a week ago tomorrow and I start my phase 2. What is your typical day look like as far as how much you drink, eat(soups) etc. I'm wanting to make sure I don't over due it and I stay on track. I have been on clear liquids and can add cream soups in now. How many ounces are you guys able to eat at a time and how many times a day? Any advice would be great!
  20. What is up with me? I am stuffing face like there is no next week (T-minus 6 and counting). Why am I trying to destroy myself here? If I have no will power now, what about after the sleeve? Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately in my case) I was not required a pre-op diet. Not to sound too dramatic but I am disgusted with my behavior. I try to rationalize by saying "this is my final hurray", or "this is my last supper". Today, I went to lunch, a buffet, with an old friend that I don't expect to be around much longer. He has in fact had surgery from past injuries in an airplane crash that removed more than half his stomach giving him a virtual sleeve gastrectomy. He is wilting away, and I wanted to see him before my surgery. But, I digress, is it normal to do that to yourself pre-surgical? Did any of you go out in a moment of weakness and stuff face knowing what you were about to face? Thanks Jerry
  21. Ok folks, I have just had a revelation. I totally misbudgetted for this procedure... I never figured just how much I would be spending in CLOTHING every couple of months!!! BUT AM I COMPLAINING...... NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It truly feels great to have clothing actually fit my body instead of stretching/clinging onto my body for dear life and hoping that no seams rip. I am wearing a pair of size 6 pants that stayed in my closet for well over a year, I had purchased them the last time I started losing weight pre-sleeve in hopes of wearing them one day. Well that day has come and gone and NOT because I put the weight back on!!! I showed the ladies in the office how lose they were and it frightened them, thought I was gonna lose my pants (mental note: do the "too lose for work" check each morning). I still have 13 pounds to lose but I simply do not stress about it anymore. I had a few extra bites of sweets over the weekend and started to beat myself up about it but quickly realized that it was OK to do that, I am in full control finally and I was able to put it down and walk away when I had enough. And today, I am not obsessed about all the candy still lingering in the office. I work out about 2-3 times a week and I enjoy wearing my tight workout clothes. I feel comfortable in the gym now!!! If you are on the fence about this procedure, if you are one that has TRULY TRIED to lose weight, if you are at your breaking point I can tell you that this is the BEST decision I ever made for myself AND my children. HAPPY NEW YEAR AND HAPPY NEW YOU!!!! PS Target has their bathing suits out in the stores now... YIPPEE!!!!! Cancun in 16 days!!!
  22. thanks AdaGray -- I do have, I think, two severe co-morbidities -- HBP, which was initially resistant to treatment, but now seems to be working (after PCP doubled starting dosage). I've also learned from my endocrinologist that I was pre-diabetic a year ago. My PBP didn't say anything about that to me, and my endo thinks there's a good chance I'm diabletic now. I get my blood sugars tested next week. so, taking sudafed spikes HP? I didn't know that ... hmmmm. It's funny, but I was thinking that the stress alone was going to start driving my BP up! I was also desperate enough to think that I could stop taking my thyroid meds for a month and easily gain 20 lbs, which makes the whole point moot, because that would drive my BMI up to 40. I really really don't want to start at any higher weight, though, expecially since my bariactric surgeons are notorious for pushing gastric bypass over the band, and equally notorious for being ultra-conservative with the fills ... Anyway, thanks so much for the info -- please let me know how your approvals go. I am glad that my insurance doesn't force me to document five years back, as that would really be difficult for me. Good luck to you!

    Pre-Op Protein Suggestions

I'm currently on day 4 of liquids. I also have a calorie limit so I want as few calories and as much protein as possible for post op. I like Premier shakes.. 30g protein plus easy for me to grab at Costco. I also have added two clear drinks. Cytosport.. I got the tangerine. It has 32g protein, 2 carbs and 120 calories. And the very tastiest one I've found is Designer Whey Blast.. love the grape.. It has 120 cal, 1 carb and 30 protein. The drinks seem to work for me while at my job. I drink the shakes down quickly, but I kind of nurse the drinks along more like sipping a soda now and then. I am fighting the hungry feeling today.. first 3 days went easily. I think the drinks stick longer and I don't think about needing to eat while I sip along on them. In addition to these, I'm doing broth..I found miso broth at Whole Foods, along with beef, chicken and veggie from anywhere. That hot flavorful broth for dinner is really working.. kind of a calm down time and I feel nourished without the extra calories... that's all in my head, but it's working for now. Other than the above, I do lots of herb teas... chamomile, white, green, etc..and I have a big water bottle in my hand and in my car at all times. I think I'm more afraid of getting hungry and blowing it than really being hungry. I am a bit worried about the upcoming weekend. I think work keeps me busy so I don't think about.. am I hungry, is it time to drink some protein so I won't get hungry...yada yada... I also have Isopure (those here call it Isopuke) but I can drink any drink and any shake with no complaints right now. That may change after surgery. I also have Unjury and Nectars but am going saving on them for post op. So that's my current plan... who knows how I'll change it up by the time I get through 2 weeks of this! Best of luck to you.
  24. How did you keep it from them when you came home in pain from the hospital and only drank liquids and ate mushies for weeks and now eat very little.
