Stuck At The Same Weight For 2 Weeks
Sojourner replied to cmevick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It is typical to hit a plateau every so often, and it is important to maintain your compliance with your diet. Also, I have found that my weight loss slowed significantly if I did not eat enough Protein, and if I did not drink enough "free fluids" (SF and FF). I have also read that changing up your exercise is supposed to help; if you have a set routine of exercises, change the type and perhaps the speed of your reps. I halve also written in past posts that this band and weight loss journey has taught me a life skill which eluded me for most of my life: how to have patience and be patient... Best wishes as your journey continues...and it will! -
I don't know your background, and although I am a Christian, I am not suggesting that you "find religion" as your solution. But many, many churches (you may have to check around) have good, kind, caring people who will reach out to you in tough times like you are going through. Some churches many even have a counseling pastor/staff member who you can talk to, work through the emotions of the loss, and what to do next. As suggested above, we can try and be there for you, talk to you through this site, or PM, or email, but sometimes, there is nothing like someone reaching out to you, and just comforting you, listening as you cry, hand you the tissues, and then helping you to the next step in life. As for the fill, well, keep checking more doctors, in a wider circle around where you are, to see if you can find a more favorable situation. If you can't find any other options, then focus on maintaining. Now may not be the time to "get back on track" or try and loose the short term gain. But maintain, control portion sizes, make better choices on what you do eat, clear out the comfort food/junk food that creeps back in. Walk 10 minutes, 3x a day, if you can't get started on the 30 minutes + kinda of exercise. Once you are back into the 3 ten min walks, see if you can stretch one of them into 15, and then 20 mins, etc. Just put on those shoes, and do it, friend.

Not consuming enough protein means that you are more likely to lose muscle mass than fat. If necessary in the healing stages, drink milk. You'll have to drink more than you would drink of shakes, but if you cannot find a shake you'll actually drink, you need to.

Hello everyone! My name is Ashlee, and my surgery date is scheduled for June 15th. I had an amazing experience geting to this date, with no complications at all from my insurance provider. My doctor, Dr. Seger, and his team at BMI have helped me significantly through the process, and were so great to me. All I had to do was see the dietician once, do a barium swallow and have a psychiatric evaluation done to get my band date. It took a little while longer than expected because I missed my first psych eval appointment and had to reschedule it for two weeks later. Well, now I'm on the pre-op diet, and as everyone says it is, I'm having a difficult time. My stomach is alays growling, and I'm surrounded by a junk eating boyfriend and people at work bringing all their delicious snacks every day. It's like torture! I'm having trouble sticking to my meal plan, which is two protein shakes a day and a small meal of 3oz lean meat and a cup of vegetables. I know it's to shrink my liver, so I'm trying to stay on the band wagon as diligently as possible. Today, I had a new experience. While I cheated (I had a handful of potato chips a few hours after I woke up), those potato chips have held me over for about four hours now. It's crazy. I'm geting used to being hungry, which makes it more bearable. I've seen a lot of people who have had such great successes, but I've also seen a failure. I have a few concerns with the band myself, but I'm trying to remain confidant. I wants this to be a life changing experience, and something permanent. I hope I don't run into too many complications with the band, like slippage or erosion. A lot of people who starte a blog had a lot of success, and I'm sure it's because they're tracking their process and receiving helpful feedback. So, I'm going to attempt to do the same. I have a blog at Blogspot, and I hope some of you will read and either find something helpful or give me some helpful advice. More or less, if I can inspire anyone in their decision, I'll be happy too. My blog is located at: http://uiwleelee.blogspot.com/ Lol, there's my story so far. How are you guys doing today?

Yes, I my surgeon was Dr. Stephen Burpee in Tucson. His office is helpful. The surgery was very successful with no complications and didn't take long in the OR either. The best part is the affiliation he has with Northwest Hospital in Tucson (a walk from his office). The weight loss program they have there is great. Tons of infomoration and informational classes to take before the surgery so you know what to expect. An RN by the name of Gail is the head person for the weight loss program and supplies you with a great binder including what to eat at every week, and lots more information like vitamins, protein, exercise, etc. etc. She also visits you after surgery and the day after that. She makes frequent calls to check up after you and tell you what you should be eating, I guess in case you haven't read your binder. I like Dr. Burpee as well. I didn't have a lot of questions for him at all, so I just didn't converse with him much. The seminar he conducts gives you lots of information too. Office visits post surgery are at 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and yearly after that. He just makes sure you are where you need to be and checks out your blood work. After reading some people here that don't know what to be eating or what they should be doing after a couple of weeks, I realized how fortunate I was to have Dr. Burpee and Gail. If possible, they provide you with TOO much information!!

That is my main source of proteins already. Thanks for the suggestions.

Something we discovered on one of the other breath threads... Are you doing whey protein during the fast? It is very healthy but makes your mouth taste (and smell) like you licked a barnyard critter. Soy is less offensive, but less healthy too. Yeah, sugar free mints are probably the way to go. Congrats on your upcoming surgery.

We went to eat at a really nice restaurant yesterday. I ordered an appetizer as my meal, 3 bacon wrapped grilled shrimp, and I was only able to eat 2 of them! I have noticed when we go out to eat that the bill is literally less than half the price we normally spend... I have become a cheap date, lol! We used to split an appetizer, order 2 meals, and have a glass of wine. This "half-price bill" is a nice little bonus of my new way of eating! Also surprised when I logged my shrimp in, and found that it was only 85 calories and 6g Protein. I was worried about the bacon calories/fat, but really didn't even have to adjust my dinner to keep my goals good.

Sixty grams of Protein is the recommendation of my surgeon and in general, the USRDA. The USRDA recommends 40-50 for females and 55-70 for males. Things like weight, sex, activity levels and health conditions determine the exact number. So sixty is not so excessive as some would have you believe. I think hunger is really hard for many of us to determine. We have head hunger and we all know what that is. There is also that empty feeling that you get when you are dehydrated or lacking something, usually Water, a Protein Drink, juice or milk help me with that feeling. For me, I try to shoot for that tummy rumbling- hunger pain hunger to eat a meal. How long depends on my current restriction, what and how much I had for my last meal and my activity level since my last meal but 4-6 hours is normal for me. Generally yogurt is not going to keep you full as long as a solid protein and veggie meal will.

Congrats on getting the surgery. I think it probably took me a good 6-8 weeks to have more energy, and I'm 48. I was definitely quite tired because I wasn't eating that much. Age may be a factor, but your activity level might be as well. You may also have a job where you're more sedentary, so again, not much activity. Try to walk around whenever possible, and drink those fluids. Are you sure you're getting all your Protein in, and not having too many calories? 1000 calories sounds like a lot 2 months out. I wanna say you should be closer to 650-800, tops, but we're all so different that you might require more. I think the best person to discuss this with would be your NUT. He/She should be able to help guide you better. Hang in there. It'll get better!

5 years + with lapband and happy
catfish87 replied to Julie norton's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@LessOfMe0503 @@fitme Congrats on your decision to improve your life! As I mentioned earlier in this topic, I often attend support group meetings where there are every type of surgery patient's in attendance. I see people ( even some I consider friends ) who have had Sleeve and bypass surgeries who are as big (or bigger) than pre-op. Not to say every band patient is 100% sucessful either, but at least we have another option except being told to diet. You'll see people on this site who get on here and say things such as "my surgeon doesn't do lapbands anymore because they don't work", yet EVERY one I've personally contacted ( and I have contacted several over the years ) tell me quite the opposite. I'm sure there are bariatric surgeons who don't perform band surgeries, but the reason isn't always what is thought. This site used to let you see each person's surgeon, experience level, etc....not anymore. Best wishes! -
Oprah ate my inner skinny person.
BestDayEver replied to katieroybal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Amen Katie! Every time Oprah says she can't go a day without her bread, I think WW isn't going to keep her excess weight off. I remember when Oprah came out on her stage wearing her skinny jeans and wagon full of plastic fat to show how much she lost on her liquid Protein diet. Then a few months later admitting to eating a cheeseburger in her hotel room and feeling guilty. God bless Oprah, but I don't think WW will work in the long run either, but she'll be a bit richer for it, eh. -
why did you choose lapband?
The Icy One replied to justjackie22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I researched all forms of WLS, weighed all of the pros and cons and decided that with the less invasive surgery, the fact that I can adjust the band to work with me, personally and, if it is absolutely necessary, I can reverse it, Lap Band made sense to me, for me. Justjackie, in the end, you need to carefully weigh the pros and cons of all of the different options available to you, assess your health, your needs and decide what is going to work best for you, for your body and your lifestyle. Only you can make that decision. There is no "right" or "wrong" answer. -
You have to eat to lose weight. We are the same weight right now and I eat between 1200-1500 calories of good food each day and no junk food at all. You need to eat something for Breakfast, even if it's just a Protein shake. Plus, I eat six times per day. I exercize at least 30 minutes every day. And, I drink as much Water as I can stuff down my throat!! I know you said you have no energy but the exercize will spark both your metabolism as well as a feeling of well-being. If you are really struggling with getting food down then get your band properly adjusted. Instead of eating popcorn, drink a Protein Shake. Yes, Protein shakes are just liquid but atleast they have some solid nutritional value that will help nourish your body. Or, my doctor said soy chips are what he recommends if you really must eat a snack food. Just some ideas for ya! Good luck and let us know what your doctor says!

Liquid diet starts tomorrow!
potpieiii replied to Kelsnikol's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get migraines too. I have since I was five. Are you keeping track of your Protein? I found that as long as I get enough protein I'm ok (so far, knock on wood.) I drink at least one Isopure per day. -
The harder the cheese... the more protein. An easy way to get protein in with lots of flavor. I have it about once a week it is high in fat.

why did you choose lapband?
catfish87 replied to justjackie22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My PCP suggested it...and then I read up on it, discussed it with my surgeon, and talked to a couple folks who actually had it. Last night, I went to a support group meeting I attend sometimes. I left there happy with my decision....once again. Here's why I am so happy in my decision. There were folks there last night who had the bypass, sleeve and lapband. And as they go around the room at the beginning of the meeting (introductions/etc) I hear the following.... From the bypass person "I've lost about 130 #'s....BUT, I'm stuck...haven't lost anymore in months....and don't know what to do." From one of the sleever's...who has lost about 160 #'s (she started at 409#) "I'm not losing anymore now, but thats ok...just look where I started". Then there were some bandsters there. One, who previously was at a stall...BUT is following up with her doctor, BECAUSE there are options to improve with adjustments, etc. And she's back on the losing track! Yea her! One had a temporary port issue, but has done FANTASTIC so far, and will continue to....she's got the motivation and determination. And me....when I wasn't losing much a couple of years ago, because I was eating too much, getting discouraged, etc....and I went back to my surgeon...he say's "why would you be discouraged. You told me you weren't good at dieting. Lets adjust your band." I think about that particular visit often.....I wish everybody could have a surgeon like that. AND, an option to adjust....if things aren't working to desired results. -
I'm on mushies and made machaca for breakfast! It's shredded beef (left over from the crock pot) mixed with eggs and green chili sauce! Oh, and dont forget the cheese! I'm only able to eat about 4-5 small bites but it's loaded with Protein and it's so yummy! It's something I usually make for breakfast burritos but minus the tortilla! I also make enchilladas: left over shredded beef (2oz), cheese, enchillada sauce all blended together! It tastes just like my homemade enchilladas, again minus the tortilla!! (See a mexican theme here? My fav food!) There's a lot of other recipes out there that i've found on the eggface website! You might wanna check it out! http://www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ Let me know if you need any other recipes... I've got tons!!

I asked my nutritionist that very same question and she said to pair Protein with a carb about 30 minutes before working out. It has worked for me! Be careful you don't get full on that snack. I did once, and cramped through the whole workout! Good luck!

5 Weeks Post-OP Still Teaching Myself to Eat Slowly
zkelleybelly commented on joatsaint's blog entry in Gastric Sleeve Surgery - An Unexpected Journey
I had chicken last night and of course I threwup. Protein for me has to be in a soup or a stew. Yes, I still eat too fast after having surgery in 2006. I watch my husband eat and that is what he does. He eats fast. -
Liquid diet need advice
klus263 replied to hopeandfaith's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also used the Sugar Free Carnation Instant Breakfast and I added 1/3 cup of dry milk to make it 21 grams. I never used any other protein supplements. I found them in chocolate and vanilla. I also found Sugar Free Torina Syrups and add 1Tbsp to change up the flavor. I have raspberry, caramel and for the holiday-gingerbread. I drink them either warm or cold. Hopes this help. -
For the love of GOD why am I so hungry ?!
Arts137 replied to puchy123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Puchy, where are you in your journey??? Things to suggest are kinda based on where you are! But if more than a couple months post-sleeve I am with PDXMan and Ballermon 100%. Protein first, non-startch veggies second, and drink Water between. If I eat sugars or simple carbs I get MORE hungry!!! -
Pre-Surgery Benders
Yo-yo girl replied to AlamoTeacher's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn’t get a chance to. I went to see my surgeon 4/30 to get a date and I I had the option to book my surgery literally 14 days later and I did it. I went out for dinner that night (yesterday) and that’s it. Here I am day one of my liquid diet and all I can think about is all the food I could of had if I waiting til like May 20ish but i don’t regret it. I want this done and over and don’t forget that every pound you put on is weight that you have to lose and keeps you further from your goal. Yo-Yo Girl from New York City -
Anyone can go to a party. Its whether you go to a party and can stay strong. Rule of thumb so early out? If it is nutritionally bad for you? Don't eat it - it'll make you feel awful. Try and identify the 'better' options around the table. Or better still, eat before you go to avoid having to eat whilst you're there, drink something with no carbonation, avoid alcohol and enjoy the company and surroundings. Doesn't always have to be about the food, so make the company, surroundings and music your focus instead. If it gets tough? Leave early. Your friend will be happy that you showed and you'll be happy that you socialised but managed to stay strong. A party is not an interview with the firing squad! Well, it shouldn't be! Best of luck

The BFL Gods are against me! (But they won't win ~ BWAHAHAHA) - I broke the pedal connection thingy on my exercise bike. So I did stair climbing for my cardio this morning. Panting and sweating. The interval part of this stuff is killer! I-can-do-anything-for-20 minutes-I-can-do-anything-for-20 minutes-I-can-do-anything-for-20 minutes. Tomorrow upper body (and my butt is still sore from the strength training that I did yesterday) - My crockpot of steel cut oats are overcooked with this funky thick lining along the crock. They stink. Threw them out. Ate regular oats this morning and low fat cottage cheese. - My photos that I took last night turned out to be all flash. Couldn't get it right. Maybe I can get some done this weekend? Meals: 1) Cottage Cheese and Oatmeal 2) Tuna and yogurt 3) Protein Shake ?
