    BCBS Federal-Really need some advice!

@@kimdlawson06 Hi! I have BCBS fed-basic and I was approved, my surgery is in 4 days. They wanted a two year history of a bmi from me as well. I only had two records from the last 3 years and my bmi was not 40 I think it was around 34-35? My bmi is 40 now though. I'm not sure what they are really looking for? I was also on a lot of different "diets" in that time including losing serious weight for my wedding. They want you to show that you have tried to lose weigh well I had and I did but I also blew back up and I think they see that. The insurance company is a mystery! I don't have any co-morbids either. It's confusing but I am proof that you can get approved without that 40 BMI for two years.

  3. I love salmon; that works well for me. Chili -- there are so many different kinds. I find that if I sauté ground beef or turkey with the garlic and spices, etc., then add in broth or stock and simmer for a while, that process breaks down and softens the meat. Plus I buy grass fed now; what a difference in flavor. I cook chicken thighs in a variety of ways. I also use stock for them -- that method of cooking makes everything saucy and delicious without adding a lot of calories. Brown the thighs on both sides, add veggies, cover with stock. Yum. Try adding in whatever you like best. Trader Joe's makes a green sauce we love. You can add prunes, olives and lemons to make Chicken Marabella. You can do coconut milk and Thai spices, or cinnamon chicken. Chicken with mustard is amazing. Peanut sauce. BBQ, etc. You get the idea....... Let's see, what else. I'd say Greek yogurt is pretty much a staple in our household. Yogurt is a slider for me so I have to chunk it up to give myself something to chew on (which is what activates the brain to give the signal for satiety). So in a Greek yogurt cup I add in chia seeds, a little gluten-free granola, maybe some walnut pieces, etc. -- whatever I fancy. Sometimes it's sunflower seeds. I love my yogurt and have that for "brunch" quite often. I don't eat Breakfast as I'm not hungry and unless I'm going out for lunch or something I just grab my yogurt treat and enjoy that. Good luck finding what works well for you -- I'm sure you'll get a lot of suggestions here!
  4. In my humble opinion I think MANY interpersonal relationships change when you have WLS. Family dynamics shift, depending on your place in the family. I have always been the one to support and give of myself to everyone. If I had nothing, I would still try to give. I would be suffering, in pain, yet I was always thinking of others. I had been off over two months from work and had spent 6 days in the hospital, yet in May 2013 I made sure to get to my nephew's wedding. ( Four days after I was released from hospital for a major DVT/PE) I was not perfect, but I tried. Then I decided to have the surgery for ME. As I lost weight I became more and more aware of how certain family members used me, and I put a stop to it. Then there was work. Most of my work associates supported my decision and have praised me for the weight I have lost. One coworker though has always been difficult. She is extremely passive aggressive and difficult to get along with. I put up with her nonsense for over 12 years, biting my tongue. Earlier this year I couldn't hold it in anymore. I let her know in no uncertain terms exactly what I thought of her. It got tense and ugly in the office for a while, but I didn't regret it. The old fat me did everything to keep the peace, don't rock the boat. The new thinner me isn't going to put up with the same BS. I am very over that. And then there is my "personal" relationships. I will admit 100% I thought it would be easier to find a nice guy to date if I weighed less. I never got asked out on dates at 300 lbs +, I really thought when I became physically more attractive that would change. It has not. I haven't dated more than once or twice since I have lost weight. Yet I have made a change in this area too. I used to be available for "FWB" friendships. The problem was they weren't really friends and the only benefit was mostly for them. They didn't want to hang out. Heck most of the guys I have had "benefits" with over the past 10 years have had significant other women in their lives at the time! No, once again I did things just to have a guy pay attention to me. I believed I was desirable to the men, but the truth be known I was just easy. Well since I have lost weight that has stopped. I no longer have FWB. If I am not good enough for a man to take out on a date, been seen together in a social setting and want to actually spend time with me, I am not good for the other either. I think a lot of overweight people will do this, settle for less than ideal rather than nothing at all. Whether it be getting involved with people who are not the best for you or having intimate relationships that are without a relationship, obese people will put others before themselves. I think with weight loss after surgery we begin to find some confidence. We want better for ourselves. And those who have used us don't always like this change. They accuse us of being different people, that we have "changed"- like it is a bad thing. What has changed is we are learning to love ourselves enough to want better. And yes, it does often lead to changes within our social and familial dynamics.

Does anyone know what a leak feels like? I'm having severe pains on my left side but don't know if gas has settled there or a bowel blockage. I don't want to overreact but it really hurts. I am walking around trying to dissipate any gas if that's what it is, but not helping. Just took pain med and one spoon of milk of magnesia. I also haven't had a BM since one week ago when I took a laxative before surgery. I wasn't that concerned with constipation bc I'm only on liquids, but is it possible? I feel like if it was a leak I'd be on the floor. I'm close tho to being there.

    Exhaustion? Day 8 Post Op

I had mine on 10/20 as well I have moments where I feel like I can conquer the world & am my old self. Quickly I lose all energy and have to realize I need to slow down. I am used to always being on the go, so it's a big change for me. I am 14 lbs down, not sure if that's good or not. Have my followup Thursday. Just praying I have been doing everything right..bc as of right now, I can't even imagine returning to an 8 hr workday.

    Weird feeling when eating

So I had surgery on May 15, 2014. I'm at about 7.0 ml in my band. I was at 6.0 and was barely feeling restriction. Then two weeks ago I got my fill for the month putting me at 7.0 and after the initial first few days of liquids to soft to normal I never got to normal. I have literally only been able to eat yogurt, liquids, ice cream, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes...hopefully you get the picture. Yesterday I tried some chicken nuggets. Really really real chewed them up and it was pretty difficult. Even these mushy foods can be hard to have sometimes. I have thrown up a lot just figuring out what I can and cannot eat. Don't get me wrong I'm glad to FINALLY be feeling restriction bc up till now it was like I didn't even have the band. When I eat now I feel the food. Am I feeling it when it goes from my throat to my stomach/pouch or from in the pouch thru the band to the rest of my stomach. It is so uncomfortable. Does this mean I am in my green zone. I'm just confused by what I am feeling. After literally two weeks shouldn't I be able to eat more solid food. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!!!
  8. I'm so scared I'm going to ruin my weight loss. I do not work so my day consist of watching tv, light housework and maybe going to visit a friend. I am so afraid of getting back into my old rabbits of emotional eating. I'm working on getting a therapist that can help me a little but I still see myself wanting to eat bad things and too much of it!!! Help!!! If I could think if something that I could snAck on that wouldn't take up a lit of room in mt tummy and wouldn't be bad for me that way i could have it when I feel the impulse to eat. I also am having a hard time getting myself motivated to walk. I can't really do a lot bc if my back and my arms. I go to my neurologist on the 5th about the pain in my arms. Any words of encouragement would help!!!

October 2014 sleevers check in please!

Had my surgery on Oct 9th. I am down 15 lbs since surgery. I have a lot of pity party days. Anyone wanna join? I am sure things will get better. I puree Soups and have found I am craving spices, so I am adding garlic powder and black pepper. makes me have the feeling that I am having "real" food. I also am having hunger attacks and stomach growling. I have been told its all in my mind. BS its in my stomach…or what is left of my stomach.
  11. ...an article about Al Sharpton and how he lost all his weight without surgery. Yet another public forum intimating that those who go the surgery route are doing it 'the easy way'. I'd bet the house that this guy either had surgery and is lying or he'll never keep all that weight off. I remember when he was fat Reverend Al and no one that size keeps it off permanently. He was/is by his own admission, a foodaholic. He says he's consuming 1,000 calories without surgery and isn't hungry? I call BS on that. Or he'll put it all back on in time. And since he's kept it off for a while, I still think the man is a liar. The link to the article is below. http://www.nydailynews.com/life-style/incredible-shrinking-sharpton-article-1.1988923

    Guys...Im HANGRY!

Day five post Lap band surgery and I am HANGRY. Thats Hungry and angry smushed together. I went to see my surgeon today because my incision in my belly button was leaking. Once in there they fixed it up and put me on the scale. Down 16 pounds in five days. Great....but I reallly dont like how my attitude has changed over the last few days. I had no energy, I was snappy and mopey. I guess food made me happy. lol Sort of pathetic...but still. I feel like I should be just dancing a jig or something but all I feel is pissed off bc my husband who stopped drinking soda two weeks ago has his bowl of ice cream sitting on his 6pack that reappeared las week. I know Im doing this for all the right reasons... I WANT this more than anything so I can be there for my daughter for a very long time....but what good am I if Im a bitch 24/7? Thanks for listening. HJ
  14. I had a one week pre op diet of full liquid only and clear the day before. It was the shrinking of the liver issue. I was so excited to get to that point I didn't mind it at all. My husband even did the preOp with me. What a support to have someone going through the same along side me. And he fed the kids so I wasn't in the kitchen smelling the food I cooked for them. He was a blessing before and after. I did have a lower BMI and the surgeon told me that he actually had a hard time getting all of the instruments to fit!!!

  17. I had my weight loss surgery 4 months ago and am down 84lbs, and my husband is driving me nuts, he is convinced I am cheating on him, he said it has nothing to do with the weight loss but that's BS!!! 84 lbs ago he could care less what I did, were I went or if I even came home after a night out with the girls, now he blows up my phone the entire time Im out and I have never given him a reason to believe that I was. I am how ever going out more than I was, I no longer feel like the big pink elephant in the room and I can actually find cute clothes that fit me. Its really an insult that he felt like no one would bother with me before but now I might have a shot. He's even looked at my phone records and was calling numbers!!! I know 2 other people that have had surgeries and they to are now divorced which is were I feel like I want to be, not because I want to find better but because he thought so little of me. Just remember everyones different, Im just telling of my experience. Good luck!!!

    Where are the November Sleevers?

I understand if they won't want to bc I don't think you can find the group in a search. Again, I could be wrong on that too.

    Hurt our new tummy

I wasn't allowed a single bite of food for 8 whole weeks. 8 weeks!?! She says it's bc she has seen cases of people's stomachs rupturing on yogurt at a month out! Now, who knows what truly went on. Most people do just fine, but 8 weeks of liquids was awful.
  22. I guess it depends on the center and the operating surgeon. I went for my last appointment and I was sweating qualifying ( I also am 5'5 and my first weight was 239). My bmi was 39.4 and my ins requires 40 with no comorbidiries. I also gained 4 lbs ( I stopped nursing my daughter 4 months ago which made me gain) My Surgeon told me he's using the weight he got that day of my appointment and that's the only one he's giving them. So needless to say, some ins require all monthly weights to see if there is a gain or just the one. Apparently Anthem BC/BS of New England is pretty good about these things. Thank god!!! Keep going to your appointments and see what they say.

Where are all the Canadians ?

Saskatchewan does have some WLS surgery available...I think only in Regina. I was referred to the program when I moved there two years ago. I never heard anything and had already put in two years in BC, so followed up in March of this year with the team I started with in Victoria. Things happened quickly after that and I got my surgery date in August. I only just got the call from my referral to Regina a few days after that!

    October Surgery Date

Hello ladies! Update: I had my surgery yesterday afternoon and everything went very smoothly. They just disconnected my self activated pain pump and we'll go Tylenol from here. Just got back from X-ray to check for leaks and passed that test so I can start oral fluids within the hour. I have been sleeping nonstop. Went to the bathroom a few times but no walks yet. Mild discomfort in the upper stomach bc of the HH repair, but other than that everything's been a breeze so far. No nausea to speak of, no itching, and really no gas pain. It didn't hurt to urinate after the catheter, and no drain. I'm feeling very blessed and happy. The only negative is the excessive dry mouth and that terrible tasting barium.
