Hi Sola nice to see you back here. You were banded the same day as me and I have lost 35 lbs. I definitely could have lost heaps more by now but I have been struggling with it. I think my band has slipped as well, will find out on Monday. I have very little restriction and have been exercising throughout this time and that has helped me keep from putting any weight back on. It's definitely not always easy and you do have to work with the band. I'm hoping once I sort my problem out then I should start losing again. Don't stay away so long next time, this is a great place to come to stay motivated.

I had exactly the same situation. I stalled for 3 weeks. It seemed impossible not to lose, but then I decided I wouldn't lose unless I exercised, so at 5 weeks I started doing a little bit and increased it over time. The first 2-3 weeks I lost 20 pounds, and then nothing. I feel like those 20 pounds made me able to do more exercise than previously. The exercise got me out of the stall and now I'm not losing fast, but I have gone down several sizes- 26 to 18- 4x to 1x. I would have quit after the stall as I always did on diets, but this time I have made a commitment so I keep going! I am now at week 15, and I have lost only 40 pounds- about 2 pounds a week after the initial loss. I am just a slow loser, as I am following the diet, and it's still slow- I think some people only eat 6-7 hundred calories a day, but I wasn't losing if I ate too little. I think I need at least 1000 calories, and all my assigned amount of protein (91 grams) to lose. Maybe if I had exercised and stuck to my diet for more than a month before surgery I probably could have lost weight, but I couldn't, so now I am! Just don't get discouraged and remember this isn't magic, it's a new way of eating, and exercise! Good luck!

Don't Believe Everything You Think.
Elizabeth Anderson RD posted a magazine article in Post-Op Support
I have a light blue car. I really, really wanted a navy blue one but the affordable, gas-sipping car I found was ‘previously owned’ so I didn’t get to customize the color. I considered a paint job but decided it wasn't worth two thousand dollars to me. Still, it’s been a little hard to let it go. Since that day two years ago, (and surprisingly not a day before,) I have seen no fewer than 6,324 navy blue Prius' near my home in southern NH. The New Hampshire DMV might disagree with my statistics but I am convinced. My materialistic heart longs for a dark blue Prius so my brain is highly sensitive to seeking out this particular colored car and miraculously noticing them everywhere. If perception is our reality, I have all the proof I need. And therein lies the trouble. "The mind's job is to validate what it thinks." Byron Katie This isn't good news for those of us who fill our heads with toxic thoughts/beliefs that we carry around 24/7. Think about it. How many affirming, positive statements do you say to yourself in the ever constant conversation going on in your head? Now, if you were able to record that conversation, how many thoughts/comments would be self-berating, self-defeating, pessimistic and negative? Is it any wonder we continue to struggle to make even a small change when we've set a course for failure before we even begin? So what does this have to do with nutrition and weight and healthy eating? Um, everything. If you want, strive... ache to be lighter or leaner or simply healthier but you BELIEVE you are fat, gross, lazy and incapable of changing your life, you won’t. A brilliant life coach named Brooke Castillo explains it to her clients this way: We all have circumstances that we cannot control. We think thoughts about these circumstances and those thoughts lead to feelings. Feelings lead to actions (or inaction) -- which can affect our circumstances and.... the loop continues. If you are engaging in actions (overeating, eating like your pre-surgery days, drinking a little too much wine, etc.) that you can’t seem to control or don’t understand, start back at the beginning. Review your circumstances and try to really uncover all the thoughts you have about those circumstances. Journaling here is highly recommended. I am constantly surprised at what I type (I use a keyboard vs handwriting) when I'm madly trying to get out all my jangled thoughts. I tell my clients to do the same and strive to uncover as many thoughts as possible. The object is to expose unexamined thoughts/beliefs to fresh air. You might be shocked at what's really going on in your mind. Only when you bring thought and beliefs to the surface can you decide if they are serving you or if they need immediate replacement. Sometimes the digging is treacherous and requires a good therapist. Go get one and then celebrate the changing seasons by uprooting all the weeds holding back your best bloom yet! -

trying to change my inner voice
cindymaried posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been full of regret and anxiety and wondering if I made the right choice.... I am 8 days out from surgery and I have been suffering through. No major problems just sore and sad and anxious... But I decided that I should be thankful. I chose this and I need to make the best of it. So I am trying to change my inner voice to things like You can and are doing this You are stronger than you think You do not need food to be social You can have fun still There is no attack so just relax. I have also been trying to calm myself with deep breathing. And trying to get back to my old routine... Doing better with liquids and Protein. Trying to get my calories up a bit too. 5'11" Highest weight 322 Pre op weight 307 Surgery weight 296 Current weight 280 -
MUST stop this eating!
TinyMamiOf3kids replied to Cherry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You seem to be doing everything right. I have a problem with keeping a stall. Yes a stall I'm getting smaller & smaller & I eat as if I just had surgery. I think I have a lot of stress in my life. There was a point in life that I was able to eat more food but now I eat like a 2 year old. I have a small bowl & my kids bowl. If I eat more yes I would vomit. Everything blood & all is perfect in my health wise but I just keep getting smaller. This weight must stop before I look like a skeleton. I'm 5 foot 105 pounds size 00 and I'm not showing off at all. I'm comfortable with my tiny body but how do I stop the scale? I'm not far from being 100 pounds. -
Me too! I was always hot before and now I am always freezing! I think it's because we don't eat all that comfort food anymore...lol...or cause we don't have as much weight to keep us warm anymore...lol I was sleeved on 9/19...down 53 lbs...started at size 20-22 down to a 12-13! I am loving my new look and life.

I've had a 2 weeks stall.I think Im on track to the weight lost now..Thank God..I was alittle worried ..I have a Dr.Appt tomorrow ...I can only imagine how its going to go...Ive only lost about 2 lbs in 2 weeks..Im 3 weeks out.Is anyone else losing slow.?
-
Was sleeved March 10th. Up until 4/2 I had no energy. No matter what I did little or big I was exhausted. Then suddenly I felt good and have energy. The last two and a half weeks not only have I been on a heavy flow period (ladies will understand, sorry men) but I have not lost any weight. From the time of my surgery to the stall I have only lost 21lbs. I am getting really worried that I went through all that for just 21 lbs. Isn't it way too soon to hit a stall. I am not going over on calories and I get my water in and am trying to get close as possible to protein.
-
I was sleeved on 2/22/17 I've lost 21 lbs since surgery and 43 in 6 week period. I know a lot of people that hit a Plateau and stay there for a lil while. How fast did others lose weight? And how much?

does anyone have any regretes or overall happy
chicamam1 replied to keishonda's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i love love love love love my band. omg i love it. really.. ive lost more weight than i have in my entire lifetime in one month. its all about the mindset tho. it really has to be there.. im so grateful my grandparents gave me this oppurtunity. they covered my surgery and any future expenses in full. ugh i tear up thinking about it because its just such a lifechanger for me. i love them so dearly. does this mean i dont miss eating cheeseburgers alot? no i still miss then but i dont miss it more than i miss being healthy. and that is whats it all about for me. to become more healthy to see my kids grow up and have a long life with my husband and family. sure we dont know what will happen in the future but this will eliminate one risk factor for that not happening. and a big risk it was. ok so anyway sorry to ramble but i dont have any regrets. i love my band so much... -
I am 1 year and 3 months out and am wondering is it normal for the pouch to stretch and how much should I be able to eat at this point. I feel like I can eat more but should i? Also, is there a picture to see what our stomach (pouch) looks like now. How usual is it that the stomach would stretch to a very large size and is that what causes weight gain and if not what causes weight gain after surgery. Thanks, Irelandgrl

I have learned that I can't expect weight loss results when eating for maintenance rather than weight loss (including carbs in my diet). Increasing fitness can help. Going back on Protein shakes (at the direction of my surgeon) for two weeks also really helped shrink things back.

Yeah take stool softer I did the same .it even held my weight loss back for aboutv2 weeks over that . Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App

Preop Jitters: State Of Extreme Nervousness
Claudia2012 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
First I would like to say that I am so grateful for this site and all of your comments. All of you have written wonderful advice. With that in mind, let me tell you that my surgery is this Friday 02/03/12 right on my hubbie’s B-Day! This surgery is my own present.. I turn 40 years old on super bowl Sunday, two days after my sleeve surgery. I currently weigh 208, but my heaviest was 222 I'm 5'0" A BMI of over 40 I began this journey last May when I got the approval from Kaiser to begin the Options program. This program was 3 months of weekly classes that prepares prospective weight loss Kaiser members that are ready to embark on this journey. I’m also extremely grateful for that program. So here I am, 2 days until my surgery. I am extremely nervous, I truly do have the jitters. I’ve have kept busy, preparing my home and husband and son for this big step. I’ve bought just about everything on my Kaiser shopping list and some items mentioned in these blogs. Currently I'm eating liquids and purees.. self imposed.. Kaiser only asked for one day of clear liquids prior to surgery and no food past 12:00 AM I am nervous, exited and worried all at once. Thank God for the internet!! It keeps me sane. But overall I AM READY!!! READY! -
I stayed with my calories between 600 to 800 but closer to 600 per day and my carbs under 20 until I hit my goal weight. I also exercised for an hour daily starting in month 7 (walking 5 miles a day before I started with the gym). I hit goal at by month 10. Starvation mode is a myth, when you have a lot of fat on your body you will convert that fat to energy. Starvation mode will happen when there is no more excess fat to use.

WOW! This ain't no only! You've lost over 5 # a week! Walk around with a bag of sugar for a while as a hint! Your body not not consistantly lose weight, so just keep plugging, and all will be fine. (If you can, don't weigh every day... nothing like seeing a big drop later)... Good luck to you!

Do you see a endocrinologist? My personal experience the so called diet pop diet coke i was an addict. Lived on it! Im not getting into no debates or statistics or nothing this is my experience..i craved it daily. Me and the hubs. Weight issue? Yes for me. Kept his diabetes crazy. (Again our experience) we stopped cold turkey over 10 yrs ago. "Fear" also held me as prisoner denial of myself and a carb addict. I didn't eat much thru the days yr after yr (so i thought) i also have hashis i had to have complete thyroid workup and get to bottom of my weight increases also. Some was everything i ate the ff foods the lowfat and sf foods i thought was good choices along with the good grains..were all my enemy for me. The band was no option for me it was a tool i would be using as in my mind it would be to easy to go back to eating the way i was accustomed to..that was me..i knew i needed a permanent tool that would motivate me for life. And it has helped me tremendously! Without my sleeve i would just be prolonging the inevitable on my part. I understand the fear of surgery..but its really not bad at least for me i know everyone is different. Its a personal choice. I wish you the best to a healthy life. But also eating habits are also driven by many causes. I had to face mine fix mine and knew when i was ready for lifestyle change. Keep us posted ..do your research..maybe get an appointment and go talk to a surgeon...????

When is weight loss rapid?
BrightEyes529 replied to Thebin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so glad I read this thread. I'm two and a half weeks out and my weight loss has really slowed down and I was beginning to feel a bit disheartened and defeated. But it's very comforting to know that it's normal!! I tried to tell myself that it was, but it's much more reassuring to hear it from people who've been through it before lol. So thank you! -
When is weight loss rapid?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Thebin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with others stay off the scale. Early out its a good idea to just weigh at your doctors' appointments if the numbers on the scale are going to influence your mood, feelings and emotions. Just focus on getting in all of your fluids and Protein, following your surgeon's instructions, and walking. Please don't fixate on the calories or trying to restrict or manipulate calories. This is not a diet. Your body is healing from surgery. In order to heal and lose weight you need to get in all of your protein and fluids. -
I had my first fill today! I've been mostly able to keep it to three meals per day leading up to this, but was still just a little hungry. The PA gave me the choice of fill or no fill. I went ahead and did it. So far I'm down 23 lbs since surgery 3 weeks ago and seem to be slowing down on losing weight. Here's hoping I keep up a good pace! Nick

Veteran starting all over again...
general_antiope replied to mumof2boys's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Hi Tina - wow what a story! And CONGRATS to you for beating breast cancer! YEAH GIRL!!!! KICK ITS A$$!!! Congrats on your baby boy, too! I'm in a similar boat. I was banded in 2004, lost 100 lbs, got the lower body lift, arms, breast lift...and have had a malfunctioning band since year 2. I would get fills for a solid year, monthly, and each month I'd be empty. I had the port replaced, then the tubing replaced, and then I got pregnant. And the band disconnected completely last April! So I gained 65 lbs with pregnancy (beautiful baby girl!), am now at a net loss of 50 lbs out of the 100, but still want to get down at least 80. I just got rebanded on Monday - new model. I had the old 4cc band, so I am starting all over again and taking nothing for granted. What worked last time may not work this time. But I feel like I got the emotional roller coaster of being banded for life out of my system 8 years ago, and now I'm a smart veteran. No hysteria, no fear, no anxiety. We know how this works, don't we? It sucks we're the "do overs" but I think it happens to us because we're strong, and we can handle it. Looking forward to the journey with you. Keep us posted on your progress -
I, like Sassygirl, eat my Protein first. I'm 6 months out and continue to weigh my portions of meat/fish. If I still have room I eat veggies (there are naturally occurring carbs in fruits & veggies). I by choice don't eat bread, Pasta, rice. Since I have always had a gluten sensitivity it's easy for me not to eat that. I do eat 2 fruit servings every day as Snacks. I feel like I eat a 'normal' diet - so much so that when we're out to dinner with friends (who do not know I had surgery) I don't 'stick out' with the way I eat. Example: I'll order a small salad, dressing on the side. Eat some, take the rest home. I'll order fish or chicken with veggies (no rice or potato) eat some, take the rest home. I sip Water before the meal but stop before I eat and don't drink during or for 30 minutes after I eat. I don't eat the bread at the table. I leave full & happy and with food for lunch or my dogs the next day! My NUT stresses eating a balanced diet which includes fruits & veggies. Good luck, you will find your 'normal' and still lose weight.
