What is your favorite Scale?
EricaTasia replied to Rae5148's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also use the Aria scale by Fitbit. I love it! Plus, you can link it to your MyFitnessPal account and as you lose weight document with a selfie!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Surgery was 6 months ago, and I'm loving it! I now weight 175, which is actually below my goal weight of 180. I'm happy though, everything went well and I'm enjoying my life. I feel better, healthier and it has changed my life for the better. I never had any major complications, or nausea. Thank you for supporting me and helping get through everything.

I had 1cc removed when that happened to me the first time. I hate that for you, it's been a year and I haven't been able to get back to green since, so I've basically gained all of my weight back.

Well I had my six month anniversary Oct. 23, saw the surgeon and he says I'm right on track. I started at 278 and am currently at 247. He told me from the get go 1/2 lb a week is normal. I've only had one fill, and I think I have restriction. In my visit I was thinking I would get another fill, but he wouldn't do it. He asked if I still felt rest. when I ate and I do, so he said if he puts more in, I'll def. be puking. (I haven't yet). I can't eat more than a cup of solid food, and pasta bugs me, so is that still good restriction? Also I have been really slacking in the excercise dept. I started a class that was everyday in the mornings and then i worked at night, so there wasn't much time. NOW< class is over and I have put ON 6lbs. over the holidays. I'm so frustrated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't gained until now. I know that when I don't excercise, i make poor food choices, but I haven't in so long that I'm scared at how out of shape I'm going to be again, starting all over! All of the cakes and cookies I've been baking and making, I feel like I can't stop! I can't believe the crap, and junk I'm eating, for the first time since being banded I feel hopeless! AND GAINING! I really need support, Is there local support groups? I feel like I need more accountability. Although this forum is wonderful, sometimes I need physical accountability kwim? This has turned into a vent, but man do I feel bummed! Any help to get me back on track? Also is my band really tight enough? I can't believe I still have restriction after all this time? Thanks everyone! Happy New year!

Is it Asthma, or the extra weight?
latido replied to latido's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I told the doctor that at least two people told me that their asthma did not lessen with the weight loss. They were very surprised. I am soooooo looking forward to tomorrow, in either case. -
I was wondering how long everybody needed post op to start working out? I also wanted to know if the sleeve made it easier to workout and firm up the loose skin from WL? I understand the sleeve lets you loose weight at a slower weight and I assume this would allow you to work out to keep up with the change?

Exercising post op?
Sleeveforme2017 replied to sleevedjana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How much have you lost so far? I'm just wondering how much the exercise makes a difference with how fast you lose weight. -
So i need tk be honest and ask a question
colorado replied to Lebim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 13 month post op, close to you, I am not much of a drinker, 1 margarita every couple of months so I don't have advice on that side; however, I was warned from all sides (dr, psych, Nurse, surgeon) that alcohol addition was a common problem/transference after weight loss surgery. I was asked at every visit in the last year if I felt I was transferring addiction to drinking. I really recommend you see you DR and talk to them honestly. It makes sense, we can't eat in the volume we used to so we look for something else that we can do - and liquid funnels out rather rapidly - food does not. I urge you to see your dr:) -
Had VSG on 09/08 and no weight loss
Tomo replied to Autumnrayne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gained 10 lbs. from the day I was admitted to the next day when I left the hospital. Took awhile for all those fluids they pumped into me to exit my body. As long as your calories are low, and you're following your surgeon's plan, it'll come off soon. -
HELP! Exercise? How much?
majorsmama replied to nn1985's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon released me for cardio at 2 weeks post-op. He just didn't want me lifting weights. I am 3.5 weeks post and haven't exercised at all yet. I plan to do 30 mins a day and work up to an hour. -
HELP! Exercise? How much?
OKCPirate replied to nn1985's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's not always how much you are doing in terms of time...I think in order to keep the motivation going, you have to have an idea as to why you are doing it. The reality is with rapid weight loss you are going to have saggy skin. It may or may not shrink eventually, but firming the muscles will help give contour and tone. Cardio will improve skin health giving you your best chance to avoid plastic surgery. So you are doing the right thing balancing weights and cardio. I just walked first two weeks, put in elliptical on week three and light weights by week four. Increased intensity by no more than 10% a week until 2 months post surgery and then started doing heavier weights and month 3 began the Couch to 5K program so I could put running in the mix. Now I'm going to a very heavy HITT weight program, but taking more days off to recover and will mix walk and run days with that. Keep challenging yourself, and have some fun. Did you know if you climb a 11,000 foot mountain with a 20 pound pack for 8 hours you will burn 6,000 calories? Lost three pounds doing that. -
Averaging 400 cals/day GAINING WEIGHT!
TES replied to 2notbwinded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, probably temporary water gain for hormonal reasons (ovulation or pre-menstrual fluid retention), but if you don't think that's it and you are concerned, definitely go see your doctor, bc sometimes it can be something more serious. Make sure you are getting plenty of protein and limiting carbs plus drink extra water. Great "recipe" for diuresis. -
Sleeve surgery 06/09/2016
Cocojh replied to Kristinsleeve06092016's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Kristen it will get better. I am 12 days post op and I feel/felt the same way you do right now. My ninja blender has become my best friend. I cannot eat much right now, but I found boiling chicken and breaking it down in the ninja very fine helped me. I use the broth from the chicken I n mashed potato flakes for make substance. And the broth is also a good source of Protein by itself. Now many will probably have a problem with the potato flakes, but the truth is I cant eat enough to stop me from losing weight. I can probably eat 3 or 4 spoons of the mixture. And my surgeon recommended them, because I don't like grits or cream of wheat. I made a batch on Monday and ate it for lunch only Tues - Thurs. For Breakfast I ate egg salad (I can only eat one egg) small bites of soft Turkey bacon. I also drink a carnation breakfast Essential throughout the day (15g protein) and I love Isopure. One Isopure last me three days. I must say you have to get creative to get the food in. It's a job in itself. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I deal with migraines, but they're not related to my weight loss surgery. I take Cambria powder (prescription from Neurologist) whenever I feel a migraine coming on. I think I'm getting one this morning. Yuck. They're debilitating.

More weirdness happened to me today. We went to my niece's birthday party. My step-mother-in-law asked me what I was going to to with my extra skin! I was like, um I had surgery 1 month ago, I've lost 50 pounds total...that is years down the road. She then proceeded to tell me that her friend donated her skin and she only had to pay the anesthet....etc however you spell that magic person who puts you out. I again said that I'll think about that years down the line when I'm near goal weight and she tells me that her friend was at goal weight for 2 years before she had it removed....well, hello then! My doctor told me that I'm young enough that I might have enough elasticity that it may not be a problem if I continue to exercise. Weirdness #2 - Also at this party was hubby's aunt that has had lapband. She gives me the weirdest freaking advice! She saw that I was not eating cake and ice cream and she said that ice cream is okay because it is low in carbs. I said, no thanks, I'm not a big ice cream fan and went back to my other conversation. (Weeks ago, she told me she chews food like popcorn and then spits it out....I'm like why bother?) I need to be as steadfast as possible at this point to really build solid, good habits, I think. Someone else asked if I could just have a bite of cake. I said, yes, but I choose not to. Later on in the car, I told hubby I should have said "Yes, I can have cake. I can have heroin and cocaine too, but I choose not to!" Hubby kept apologizing for his family, but I said it was okay. My family is so supportive in a normal way, that I think I need exposure to people that might be purposely or unintentionally trying to sabotage this.

I'm glad you started this thread. I have been trying to get some cardio in but I have been too tired and dizzy (i'm only two weeks out). I'm hoping this improves in the next two weeks. I add in more walking to my day but I can tell I'm not ready for hardcore workouts yet. I just bought a treadmill instead of a couch for my living room I prefer lifting weights to cardio so I'm looking forward to clearance for that. It tends to help my weight loss much more than anything else. Right now the lack of energy sucks.

Yes - stay off the scale! Especially when you find that your moods fluctuate with what the number says. I weigh every other week, because I cannot afford to take the scale driven roller coaster ride. If you are doing everything right, the weight is coming off....whether you see it on the scale immediately, or not.

2 weeks post op. Start at 341, surgery at 323 and currently at 310. Lost a ton of weight pre op and week 1 but since I went from liquids to soft solids, I have stalled or gain .2-.4 a day. I'm getting ~500 cals which the nutritionist recommends for this phase. Not cheating at all or eating between meals. Also nothing is high sodium in my diet. Anyone else experience this? When did the stall break and did you do anything special? Just frustrating to work so hard and see no progress right out of the gate.

URGERNT HELP NEEDED
KindaFamiliar replied to Griggs2alr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Such fluctuations are completely normal... Daily weighing will almost certainly do your head in... It's virtually impossible to gain REAL weight on what your eating 9 days post surgery... Don't forget that your body is likely still traumatized and therefore still in recovery mode... Your 'gain' could be any number of things, most likely Fluid... I'm sure your doc will put your mind at ease to some degree.... To me, it seems like you're all over this... Keep up the great work!!! Such fluctuations are completely normal... I was sleeved on 4/11/16 so I might be jumping the gun. I am now 13 days post surgery. The first week I lost 13lbs. And Then on day 9 l woke up and the scale said I had gained 4 lbs. This was the same time that I was finally able to get down my 64 ozs of Water and my 60 grams of protien. This week I feel great and have been active walking and bike riding. I've stuck to my liquid diet and made sure not to drink my calories. I've been a model patient and im confused. Does anyone have a similar experience or any insite to offer. Im beyond confused. I have my 2 week appt Monday and am nervous my doctor will think I've cheated. Sent from my LGMS631 using the BariatricPal App

My personal advice is for you to weigh yourself morning and night. See what foods cause you to gain weight. Weight gain or stagnation isn't always caused by increasing body fat. Some foods heavy in sodium or carbs can cause you to retain fluids but your scale can't tell the diff between Fluid gains and body fat increases. For me, knowing what affects my body is important, so tracking daily is important. For others, it's too complicated or too emotional to track.

SummerMarie 5 months - down 80 lbs?? thats terrific since you haven't posted your ticker, or profile (hint, hint) i don't know where your weight # stands how much more you have to loose??? i can see that you are working hard, trying to change things up also to try and solve your problem not loosing, going up and then down again a lb or 2???? what a bummer easier said than done but..........you gotta be patient don't get discouraged - sometimes people then might go back to old bad habits don't let that happen to you!!!! don't watch the scale have you taken your measurements - do your clothes maybe feel a little bigger???? i'm sure things will work out good luck "God Grant Me Patience, Just Hurry Up about It!!!"
