I can switch the date with the surgeon's office but I can't change my leave dates at work. I'm using vacation time, not sick leave. I had to request the time off a long time ago. So, unfortunately that's not an option for me. -

Oh girl, I'm right there with you. It's a total mind f*ck. I tell myself I won't weigh. Then I weigh. I hit the dreaded 3 week stall and am frustrated. I'm about to put my scale in a closet in another room to take away the fact that it's staring at me in the bathroom every morning. I think we are just so anxious to be further along in the journey, with the results to show for it. For me - I also think there is a bit of amazement that it is working and fear when the scale doesn't move that maybe it's NOT working. I just need to chill, trust the process and focus on what I can control. Water, protein, vitamins and nutrition in general, and movement. -

I weigh myself every day and the scale has not really moved in the last 4 days. So I might be in the dreaded 3 week stall. I think that you can gain weight even with the low calories but I don't think its fat, I think its water weight or constipation. Eventually your body will get the clue and let go and you will see the scale move. I would call your dietitians though and let them look over your food log and see if they have any suggestions. My dietitians said usually the stalls are caused by either not enough calories, low protein or not taking vitamins. But I would talk to your team and see what they think. It should at least help your anxiety and give you some input from the experts. Good luck! -

So it has been a week since my mini bypass and I feel.... great! The first three days were HARD. I was so confident about my pain tolerance and how good I would feel after surgery, so it was a huge shock. The gas pain was no joke, although I think the worst part was just how icky the various drugs for anesthesia made me feel. I was able to manage my pain with regular tylenol the whole time, it was just this constant I Don't Feel Good sensation that wore me down. Last night I was able to sleep on my stomach again, and I'm finally feeling hunger, which I am actually thrilled about, because I had such strong aversions to anything but water in the beginning that I was dreading having to eat. I am still noticeably more tired than usual, but I think once I am consistently hitting my protein goals, I will be just fine. Last day of liquids! -

Weight loss meds after surgery!

Nothing has really changed. I eat the same things, but I can consume more now. I wasn't exercising then (I walk at least 3 miles a day, and that hasn't changed), and I've never been one to count calories. I just keep track of my protein and carbs. -

I don't have hunger cravings; if anything, I have the opposite problem. I'm constantly battling dehydration because I still cannot get all my protein and fluid in one day. Luckily my insurance has covered IV infusions, but I know that can not be a long-term solution. My doctor said that insurance won't cover weight loss drugs if your BMI is 27 or below, and I that should start the drugs now still. My BMI is already 31.1. Though, that's not a solution to not losing weight. -

I don't know how many of you are in your third week, but I am concerned about my calories. My doctor has us do 3 meals and 3 snacks. Shooting for 60 grams of protein and 64 oz of water. I have no problem with the protein. I make a lot of keto soups and blend them down. I am concerned in the calories. I was hovering around 5-600 calories. Today if I eat everything, I wrote I should end up around 800. I couldn't believe it. I have not had any issues with food until yesterday. I am in my soft food stage and yesterday I had a few of Russel's sugar free chocolate. My TOM started yesterday, and I think I was just craving. That did not sit well at all. So, no more off that. Where are you all at in terms of calories? -

Unfortunately it's about a 2 hour drive if there's no traffic, can end up closer to 3 1/2 during the day, and I have a little one in school so it's not ideal, but that may be my only option if I can't get rehydrate on my own, or go to another hospital out of town. My mom was with me and when she asked him about giving me another bag of fluids before sending me home (she thought I'd at least get the first bag done before they discharged me) he simply stated not in my hospital check at *names hospital I had surgery at* maybe they can So I'm assuming that will be my only option from now on.... I do have a appointment with my primary doctor, who is amazing, On Tuesday and her office is attached to the urgent care, my mom is hoping she might be able to get them to give me fluids while I'm there. Weight loss Surgery

There are lots of exercises you can do seated which wouldn’t impact the healing of your ankle. Google is your friend. Resistance bands are really useful too. Sure won’t stretch you from a cardiac perspective but will work your upper body muscles. And yes, exercise only contributes to about 10% of any weight loss you have to lose. Have 50lbs to lose then exercise will be responsible for about 5lbs. Unless you start running marathons! If your calorie consumption is less than your body needs to function, you will lose weight even if it is a little slower with your reduced activity. Maybe check in with your dietician to ensure you’re on the right path. Sometimes a small tweak can be helpful. Am a little surprised you’re being advised to still be getting protein from shakes instead of real food alone this far along even if you have weight you still wants to lose.. I didn’t have another shake once I began purées. My calories were still low & I got my protein in. Even now I get in 70g of protein & consume about 1300/1400 calories a day in maintenance. Oh & I didn’t really exercise while I was losing & apart from some stretching exercises I still don’t. Wouldn’t burn 40 calories a day. Hope your ankle heals quickly & you’re up & moving easily soon. -
Where to buy
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to judy.boop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you’re newly post-op and purchasing from this site- go with the protein broths, either beef or chicken, and the tomato soup. They’re great savory options among the sea of too sweet protein shakes. When you’re a little farther out, try the sloppy joe packets. Those were some of my favorite products for about a year. Also, if you have trouble swallowing multivitamins then try the bariatricpal protein one powder. -
Need help with husbands post op eating
SpartanMaker replied to HappyCruiser's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is definitely a difficult situation. First some background for you. I think there are generally three reasons we have the staged diet that we do: To protect our healing stomachs. Not only are the stomach tissues massively inflamed and need to heal, but they also don't yet work the way a normal stomach works. Eating things that are off plan can even cause a blockage. That could lead to yet another procedure. Now the fact that he tolerated these foods so well may mean he's probably healing well, but it does not alleviate the risk of blockage this early on. To ease us into eating restricted portion sizes. Even if we can eat bacon & eggs, doesn't mean we should. The entire point of surgery was to cause restriction, malabsorption, and hormonal changes to help us learn how to eat properly. If he deviates once, that's one thing, but if this becomes his new norm, he's going down a path that will lead to weight regain. I don't know about him, but I didn't go through all this to fail. To make sure we are maximizing protein utilization. Our protein forward diet was designed to allow us to keep as much muscle mass as we can while losing weight. Insufficient protein can cause our bodies to actually burn muscle instead of fat. This will cause a reduction in our metabolisms, which will make it that much harder to lose weight. Yes, what we ate had a good amount of protein in it, but it also had a fair amount of fat. While some fat is needed in our diet, excess fat may cause him to lose more slowly or fail to get enough protein. My advice here is that you should have an open and honest conversation with him. Simply express to him you're concerns. Also, let him know you will help in any way you can. Also, I agree with @The Greater Fool. "Telling on him" with his nutritionist would be the wrong approach. Hopefully he can have an open and honest conversation with them about the fact that the went off plan and seek their help for the issue. Afterall, there's a reason this happened and his team should be able to help. Ultimately, it's going to be up to him to decide if he's going to go back on plan or not. Just be there for him and be supportive, but don't nag. Nagging will just make it worse. -

Thanks for the response and the help but I would let you know my doctor told me not to worry about the calories he told me to mainly focus on the protein the protein drink or shakes he said make sure you're fat is under 40 g and try to make sure your sugar is under 20 but at the most make sure your sugar does not go over 40 now again today but I really don't use sugar if I do use sugar if in my green tea but I use Linda and that's about it but the only reason I'm having trouble losing weight right now is because I'm down because they told me I cannot do anything below my waist down due to the fact that I fractured my foot almost a month ago and I'm still working on it getting here they only want me exercising from the upper half Jenny soderquist ( woof woof love you Kirby Liam minks) -

Can you contact your team and get their help. Everyone is given different advice, so one diet and exercise doesn't fit all. If you can get no help, this is what I would do - Eat proteins first and then vegetables or salad and limit carbs to fruits as much as possible. Log everything that goes into your mouth in any app you choose. So that while you can not do much you are in control. I am sure you know this as you have done so well in the past By the way you have the cutest dog, please give him/her a hug from me please -
How much should I be able to eat after almost 2 years post-op VSG
ms.sss replied to Tapioca's topic in Food and Nutrition
I generally can eat about 1 cup of food in volume (more if its salad or dry stuff, less if its dense protein or fluffy bread) in one sitting. If I wait a couple hours i could eat another cups worth. But mostly im a grazer and just eat small amounts throughout the day….usually totalling 1800-2000 average a day…usually. -

Are you eating enough calories? Enough protein? I guess that would be my advice. Make sure you are getting 60-80 grams of protein everyday and making sure you are eating enough. I eat approximately 1300 calories a day and seem to still be losing a pound or two a month. -
Feeling defeated 10 months post op
Saxons replied to ASteff's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is so distressing for you. I have no good answers, but I do know of the same problem. I had my VSG in 2018, so am over 4 years post surgery. I have lost 85 pounds, about 10 pounds from my goal. But I am happy enough with my progress. Yet a colleague of mine had the same procedure, same surgeon, and yet has not only lost nothing, but gained 29 pounds! We compared our pre diets. Mine was healthy, lots of fruit, vegetables, protein, carbs etc. I didn't eat desserts, not a fan of chocolate or sugar... my problem was portion size. It was way too big. I think I got used to serving a husband and 2 hungry sons! So the VSG was perfect for me because it limited my portion sizes of my pretty healthy diet. In addition, I did, and still do, suffer from dumping syndrome (unusual in VSG) so it discourages me from eating excess sugar or carbs. On the other hand, my colleague was addicted to everything sweet and chocolate plus carbs. She snacked constantly, nibbled on chocolate all day long, and although her stomach size was small like mine, she was dripfeeding it all day long. Have a really good look at your diet and what you are eating. Stick to the protein and veg. Honestly, I can't eat more than a palm size portion of beef or chicken. It can take me an hour to eat that plus a palm size portion of veggies. I can only eat half a banana or half an apple. I am just so full! -
Where do you get the Clear Vegan Protein? I haven’t been able to find it!
-
I think they would. I have to keep my protein high because of the protein absorption issue - hence the dietary change to counter the increase in calories from the increased protein. I hate protein shakes & I can taste even the flavourless protein powders making going back to a low calorie diet using shakes challenging. Plus the med is hormonal & my weight gain was always strongly linked to my hormones. I actually did reduce my calories initially to try to lose the kgs but it didn’t do anything. Sounds like what happened most of my life - ha! When I see my GP in a couple of weeks, I’m going to see if I can go back to a lower dose HRT & see if that helps. I’m actually experiencing more hot flushes & acne - boo - on the higher dose. Of course the gain could just have been my body settling again. It is only 2kg & I’ve been stable at this weight for 9 months.
-
I thought my body had settled at a weight …then I proceeded to lose another 5lbs this summer. I’m 16 months p.o. At the upper end of a healthy BMI. At the lowest weight I have ever been as an adult. With my surgeon, I had actually said I’d be happy to get to 180. As of last Monday, I was 163.6. I’m not doing anything special. To me I’m at maintenance. I have my calorie goal around 1400. But really I just focus on the protein number. I don’t restrict what I eat, but do try and make better choices. I am getting a Tummy Tuck in a few weeks. Excited for that.

I'm having no problems meeting my protein goals or liquid goals... I wonder why some people have problems and others don't. This is only my first day on full liquids too. So to my question. Do yall use the baritastic app or myfitnesspal or something else to track food and stuff? I've always used myfitnesspal because their extensive library of stuff I can scan. But I'm leaning towards baritastic since it's more personalized to us. I just don't know how extensive their database is. Any insights?? -

Fluids are most important but the protein will happen. The one cautionary tale that I would like to share is my experience with protein powder...I was adding it to everything and not tracking at all (TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE MISTAKE)! Protein powder (in some people) can cause terrible constipation and impacted stool - unfortunately, I’m one of those people. I won’t go into graphic detail but it negatively affected my whole GI tract and I definitely uttered the words “I just want to die” at some point before we called the surgeon at 3am. I took a full day off protein, reset myself, am now diligently tracking and all is well again! -

I use Ensure 30 g of protein twice a day and I also have a protein shake I was sleeved 9/19/22. I've had it pretty easy minimum pain. But I do get hungry a lot. I try to drink a lot of water to help with the hunger. Monday is my last day of liquids. I start on purees! That's the next step soft foods! Just take it day by day!
