  1. I attended Dr. Titus Duncan (Atlanta Bariatric) seminar on wls three weeks ago. The only call I have received from his office is to verify my insurance member number. I know my insurance cover wls because I called and checked myself before pursuing this journey. The only thing left to say is either Dr. Titus Duncan staff is not doing what they suppose to, Dr. Duncan is just too busy or he is not interested in treating me. Either way I am not going to let this discourage me because I am on a journey to better my health and life. I am now looking for other surgeons to research and get you all opinions on in the Georgia. I feel I have wasted enough time waiting on Dr. Titus Duncan and his staff to get in touch with me. Please share your surgeon and experience in the Georgia area with me if you don't mind. Thanks
  2. I also have atnea and was approved 2 weeks ago and my date is march 20 start diet tomorrow; my bmi is 36 and I also wrote a letter and was approved the first time; I think they are no as hard to get approved as most insurance; just write a letter why u want this and all the different diet plans u have done and explain that the injections are painful and phentermine gave u heart palps. And just make it sound real good; hope this helps

    Feeling so unsure.

No regrets. NONE. Didn't tell many until 2 weeks before surgery. Didn't ask for anyone's permission so they knew when I told them it was a done deal. They only option they had was either support me or get out of the way. I was fortunate to have had a pleasant surgical experience. This has been not only the best decision I ever made, but also a fairly easy lifestyle to adapt to.

    Feeling so unsure.

I must have flip flopped about 50 times! My insurance company required 6 months preparation, which in retrospect was a good thing. I actually lost 30 lbs during the 6 month wait, which really turned into a 9 month wait with submittals/approvals/scheduling. I kept telling myself, maybe I can do this on my own after all. I finally realized the only reason that I lost the 30 lbs is that I believed in the surgery and that if I didn't get it, I would be right back where I started. The first 2 weeks post-op are no fun. 4 months after surgery now, I am down 70 lbs and feel great. The sleeve works as advertised for me, stops me from eating too much. It is a very personal decision that you can't rely on other people to make for you. The vast majority of us on this board have had very positive experiences

    Newbie band to bypass! questions...

Recovery was much more painful for me, and the pain lasted about a week and a half. With all that you have going on I think you are smart to push it back until you will have adequate time to recover. I am a nurse and could have gone back after 3 weeks, but went back after 4 because I was still more fatigued than normal.

    mourning food

I know exactly how you feel! I got sleeved on the 8th and am on full liquids. I start puréed tomorrow. But the first few weeks I been craving foods that I never even ate before my procedure. It will get better this sounds weird but when I'm feeling hungry or craving real food, I like to look up recipes for the next stage and see all the things I will be able to eat very soon and then it's kind of exciting good luck!

    Not much weight loss...

Several things at play. Are your eating? You should be getting at least 800 calories. You need to be getting at least 60gms of Protein. You need to get at least 64 ounces of fluids and regular exercise. You also will find it's harder to lose the less you need to lose. Your body will simply hold onto every calorie. You may need to increase your calories in order to lose. You could simply be in a stall. They happen and all you can do is ride them out. You could weigh yourself 3 times a day and get 3 different weights. This is why the scale is not the final say on your weight loss journey. Whether you weight once a day, once a week or once a month, you need consistency. Weight yourself in the same place, the same time of the day. Stay with your program. Also take your measurements (neck, boobs, waist and hips). Notice these changes even when the scale doesn't move.
  9. Tomorrow makes 7 weeks out from my lower body lift, and I still have a seroma - I've been going to the doctor for the past three weeks to get it repeatedly drained. If it is still there next week I will have to get a drain put back in for a while. I keep telling myself to take the long view, but this has been a real drag!

    Memorial Day FOOOOOOD

I Completly Understand How You Feel......i Had My Surgery The Week Before Thanksgiving And I Had To Sit There At The Table And Watch Everyone Else Enjoy All Of My Favorite Foods, But I Promise You It Will Be Sooooo Worth It
  11. SimpleJax - you look great!!!! WTG!!!! I am amidst the dreaded stall as well I was sleeved on 12/27/12 and have lost 73-76 lbs depending on the day. However, I am in a much better place than I ever was pre-surgery. I am off all my meds- great success! I was a diet coke addict, now only drink water - exceptionally will have a diet soda with water in it. I know what I need to stop- I snack and graze a lot! And it's the wrong things- popcorn, peanuts, protein bars. I recognize what i am doing (success!)- now to put the fix in motion. I am determined to be down 40 before my cruise Sept 30.
  12. Wow I don't see my surgeon till 2 weeks post op! Funny to see all the different orders from different surgeons on these forums
  13. Hi Hiya. Just wondering How rapid the weight loss was for you in the first cpl of weeks? I weighed myself on.Friday, 7 days post op and was thrilled with an 11lb loss, weighed myself again today , 11 days post op.. and I've lost Nothin since Friday. I'm a bit freaked out by that, was expecting a loss. I'm now thinking I'm gonna be one of those ppl who doesn't lose anything much after RNY. Feel like crying
  14. Surgery is on the 25th, and I'm so scared of dying on the table/shortly after/4 months later. I have a 5 yr old and I don't want to leave him without a mother! Helpppppp

    Lose Weight before surgery

I suppose it is unique based on your insurance. My CoE said that I could not lose because I was already borderline BMI. They do have everyone do a 2 week, low carb, pre op diet. During the seminar a lady with UHC asked if she lost weight would she be denied and they told her that it was possible. At this point, I think the insurance companies are looking for any reason not to cover the surgery, so I am not going to give them one. Good Luck

Fill 'er Up my first fill

hi, i'm on my first day of mushies today....i had my Breakfast cheesecake (recipe in that section) 1/2 cup. then mid am 32oz Water (can drink pretty fast) and for lunch had baked chicken on salad...ate 1/2cup chicken and 1/2 cup salad..feel really full. i haven't had near the restriction that i did postop...of course my first surg was obstructed...but even after the second i had pretty good restriction till last week. MY restriction from postop faded gradually. All i can say is that salad was my saving grace when i felt so un restricted...because i could get that feeling of fullness....i have seen JACK say in other places on the site about going for not hungry in stead of full....i think i'm going to need a little while before i completely can get that concept. just another step in my screwy eating patterns to mend. i will go for an eval/fill in 3 weeks....will let you know amanda oh and i'm down 1.4 lbs since my fill
  17. Stay calm, and try to remember this...liquid in, liquid out. Sorry to be so graphic but at one week post op on liquids, its my new reality:) temporary I hope!! As for the nausea, are you on pepcid? Hope you feel better soon, if you don't plaese call your doc so they can re-assure you:)
  18. Hello fellow sleevers/future sleevers; Along with everyone else, I joined this forum so i can educate myself a little more in depth of the journey ahead. I am 24 years old. I have a 6 year old son with whom i gained 100 lbs with during my pregnancy (at age 17). Before then I was 170lbs. After pregnancy with the 100 lb weight gain, I let myself go. Almost 7 years later, I have an official date of getting sleeved. I have few questions, as I am anxious and cannot wait to start this journey. Aside from the weight gain from my pregnancy, the surgeon informed me my eating habits may change. It is very difficult for me to eat during the day , missing Breakfast and not eating until dinner time where I "PIG OUT" If i attempt to eat during the day, i will end up with a stomach ache . Hopefully, the surgery can correct that . I have a question for the already sleeved patients on the losers bench; After surgery, when you wake up, is the tube that's down your throat that bad ? Aunt was sleeved last week and she said it felt as if she was drowning. Thanks in advance, Cannot wait to embark on this journey with you all and get back to playing softball and finally becoming able to practice with my son. CW: 404 GW: 170
  19. I find I can eat more non Protein even when i eat it with protein. So I stick to protein first. Last week I had my Greek yogurt chicken salad and thought I would eat it with crackers. I could eat 4 whole wheat saltines and 1/2 cup chicken salad. Then I decided I shouldn't be eating crackers lol and the next day for lunch I ate only the 1/2 cup chicken salad and got full and stayed full longer. I did the experiment for 4 days. Two with crackers two with out. The results were the same. I guess crackers are a slider food. Basically you have to figure out what works for you and what keeps you full. I have tried rice but it didn't seem to keep me full. I only ate two tablespoons though because I was afraid it will swell in my tummy.
  20. Holy fadoodle!! Yeah, I'd say you've jumped over some extra hurdles!!! Too bad you and doc didn't discuss getting a sleeve if that's what he felt was best when he was in the OR... but now that you're all healed up and no permanent liver damage - this is great news! Maybe look at it as: In the grand scheme of things... a few month delay is nothing (?) Now you know that you have to have your liver enzymes watched too. But with weight loss and getting healthy that should also keep your liver issues under control as well. When my doc came and talked to me post op he told me a had a bit of a fatty liver... I was mortified but he said that with weight loss it will fix that. Whew Anyways, good luck and three times a charm!!!!
  21. Hi friends and neighbors, Just had my first fill yesterday. It was so easy! I got 4.2 cc in a 10cc band It was not a moment too soon. The last 5 days had been bandster hell. I'm very grateful i didn't have to wait longer. Thankfully i hung on and didn't gain anything back when i was feeling little to no restriction. I managed to just bounce 2 lbs up and down for about 9 days. I'm really interested to see how things go tomorrow when i can move back to mushy then regular food....can't wait because i need and long for the not hungry feeling that i get when i'm restricted and eat solids. I return for my next eval and or fill in 3 weeks say a prayer that i feel that good band feeling:biggrin: amanda

    Moving past a WL stall

There is a stall subforum you should post this in. "Don't sweat the stall stuff" http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/1102-dont-sweat-the-stall-stuff-new/ Or if you just do a search for "stall" you will find dozens of answers to your question already posted. My answer is throw the scale away, get in all your Protein and Water, follow your basic meal plan and go enjoy your new life.
