  1. My ACL revision surgery went great! Surgical center was on point. I did a million things ahead of time (groceries, medication, etc) This time is less painful, better meds and best of all, I have a Cryo Cube. An ice box thing that circulates cold water around my knee to cool it, for pain and swelling. It is the bomb.com! I am not looking forward to PT & it stinks that I am going to lose so much of my summer. Hopefully I can do more stuff, like Tango when this is done. I wish it was WLS surgery, I have to wait until November for that. ($$).

  2. I love BCBS! Got my approval today to get this dreadful sleeve converted to bypass. Oct 26 is my tentative date!

What are your issues with the sleeve?

I have bile backing up into my esophagus and I am on fire constantly...and all the acid makes me feel like I have constant hunger. I am ready for relief.

  5. My Bariatric Life

My Bariatric Life before weight loss and plastic surgeries

My Bariatric Life had gastric bypass surgery in July 2003. At that point in her life, she weighed 285 pounds, wore a size 24W, and was on ~10 prescription medications for obesity-related illnesses including diabetes and hypertension. Today My Bariatric Life has a BMI of 23 and wears a size 2 or 4. She is free from hypertension and diabetes and off 9 of 10 of those prescription medications. She owes her life to gastric bypass, plastic surgery, Paleo diet and exercise.
  6. I "lied" about having surgery for the first time yesterday. I put it in quotes because it was not technically a lie. A volunteer at work, whom I hadn't seen in months, saw me and commented on my weight loss. Then she said, "You didn't have that gastric bypass, did you?" Well, from how she asked, I could tell that she had a negative opinion of surgery, so I just said, "No" (because I didn't have bypass, I had the sleeve... see how sneaky I am?). And then she said, "Oh, thank god... that surgery scares me to death!" I feel bad because I missed an opportunity to educate someone on the facts of WLS, but I have only told a couple people at work and am trying to avoid the judgemental gossip that I know would happen. It may already be happening behind my back, but I'd rather keep it quiet. :(

Easy, LE, it's not your purpose in life to educate the masses about surgery. Now and then, when the occasion is conducive, fine. Otherwise, just do what makes sense for you at any given moment.

      LipstickLady

You didn't lie nor are you obligated to "educate" the ignorant. I've been "guilty" of this behavior a time or three and I feel no shame. It's MY body, MY health, and MY choice regarding who I share my decisions with.

Girl I don't blame you! sometimes it's a battle trying to explain the WLS to someone who has no idea about it b/c they've not done all the research on it! I know most the people at my work are tired of hearing about it. Oh well :) Good for you on your weight loss !

I start my pre-op the 21st of this month - but I am doing a modified Liver Shrinking Diet now. I have lost 25 lbs so far on it in the past month, so it's been very motivating!

  11. 5 days in my pre-op diet. Wednesday I will be having a conversion from the sleeve to bypass. I've had a rough go with acid reflux since the sleeve. I have to get my gallbladder removed also because I now have stones. When I started out on my journey I was 275lbs. Since the sleeve back in 2011 my lowest weight has been 223lbs and now I am at 239lbs. I still can't eat much of anything. Please keep me in your prayers as I go thru this one last time.

  18. Less than a week before gastric bypass surgery. I'm nervous but excited. Been lurking here for a while, reading. I'm about ready as I'm going to get. Down 20 pounds in 3 months. A ton of pre op testing done and cleared. Food/drinks, chewable vitamins, protein, meds bought. On 2-week preop diet now which includes 2 protein shakes a day along with 3 ounces lean protein and 2 1/2 C.  non starchy veggies and is totally do able for me. Clear liquid day before surgery. A full sugar Gatorade night before  and again 2 hrs before arriving at the hospital. Interesting how different everyone's diets are depending on your doctor.

    I'm optimistic all will go well. Good luck to the April surgeries happening this month and to all that are going through the process.  {{hugs}}

  21. Pls wish me luck 🤞😊

Thank you so much for sharing Tina, I totally agree, people are very uneducated about weight loss, you are absolutely right! I will look into this book for sure, as I really want this to work🙏❤️

Hi Merill! I am Debber. I just joined this blog today. I am scheduled to have gastric bypass on April 27th, as well. As the date approaches, I've gotten a little anxious, but looking forward to it, too. Here's to a successful surgery and journey for us! :)

      Merill

      Hi Debber,

Firstly congratulations you're on your upcoming surgery which is not far off! 🥳🥳

Unfortunately my scheduled date has been postponed due to covid cases taking up all the beds in the hospital and I've been told either May 2nd or the 16th even those days aren't guaranteed at this time! it all depends on the availability of the beds.

Oh well I look at it from a glass half full side, I'm a believer that everything happens for a reason, better late than never! Good luck on your surgery and please keep me updated as I will be following you😊

      All the best🤞🙏😊

  22. On November 8th I will be 11 months out. Next month is my Anniversary date of my surgery. I’m so excited and amazed and the little small things I wasn’t able to do before my WLS that I’m able to do now. I done this for myself and my health and glad I finally made that decision. I was literally killing myself and had to get a really eye -opener. Thank You GOD for second chance

Congratulations on 11 months out! Huge accomplishment! You keep plugging away and celebrate big on your One anniversary!

  23. VSG surgery was on 4 January and I am very happy with the progress.  I am just on 30kgs down and within a very healthy BMI.  My clothes fit well, but my skin is pretty nasty saggy - a small price to pay for health and wellbeing.  My hair has finally stopped shedding at a great rate of knots, pardon the pun, and I've just had my first haircut by a lovely lady who has had a bypass.  She really understood my concerns and assured me she can see good healthy growth coming through now.

It's coming out of winter down here in Australia and I'm looking forward to not being as hot and sweaty as usual this summer, and being able to wear a bathing suit at the beach without feeling embarrassed.

    Onwards and upwards 🙂
