By a week the post op gas will be gone. But I'm 11 months out and still get gurgling constantly and gas almost daily. Gas x helps a lot!

I'm a week in after a tummy tuck with muscle repair. I did stay overnight at the hospital and wasn't sent home with a pain pump. Taking percoset orally has helped manage the pain. I didn't blink after c-sections or the band surgery but this one is something. I can sleep and get around and I never had any help at home since I needed my husband to take care of the kids, but I would count on a good bit of time for recovery. I budgeted a week and clearly that's not going to be enough. If you do tell friends, family and co-workers about the surgery you should be just fine. It's the hiding it from people that's making things difficult. Luckily DH is a saint. Let me know if you have any specific questions. I get my drains removed on Wednesday (hopefully) and I'm thinking that this will improve my quality of life markedly. Congratulations on making this big decision. Pain aside, I'm already so glad I did it. I had so much extra skin on my abdomen even with being in great shape, and overnight it's totally gone. All very exciting!

Im really trying but this stall is getting me depressed
tia952000 replied to emr80's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
YES....you can tell a difference..I totally agree with what everyone is saying. Slow will definately win the race, I hit my stall a week or two ago, then I went back & changed a few things like my workout, my eating habits, I absolutely LOVE ORANGE JUICE...I had to push away from that sugar & it worked. You are going to have many of stall weeks, stay focus & do your thang...You look great, the faster it falls the chances are the skin will hang so you don't want it to fall fast at all. I am now losing 2 pounds a week & I love it. Keep your head up... -

But I've only lost 13 lbs post op and I'm kinda disappointed I thought by this time almost 4wks out I'd be at least 25lbs less post op can u guys tell the difference? I'm getting bummed that I haven't lost as much as most peeps on here -
I was three months out and had already lost a good bit of weight, and was myself on vacation. I had family visiting that day, so happily cooked MY favorite dinner in a way I could enjoy eating it, and enjoyed the visiting even more than the food. Yes - definitely had cake, but I picked it out and made it what I really wanted - had a tiny piece and sent the rest home with everyone else. Gift-wise I asked for money to go the the good running store in town and be professionally fitted with running shoes - which I love!

Lactose intolerance and the liquid diet
lsereno replied to joannao74's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
The unjury Whey Protein is good choice if you are super lactose intolerant. It was the only Protein powder i could tolerate the first couple of weeks post-op. The chicken flavor can be mixed with Water. Lynda -
Crystal, best wishes for you as you begin your new lifestyle. Sounds like you got to the hospital just in time. So scary. I am the same as you, I didn't really get some real good restriction from my last fill until 3 weeks after my fill. I thought I had good restriction, but after 3 weeks, the real restriction kicked in. I am not too tight, but I finally feel the band working. Your experience will remind us all, being too tight is not good and can cause some serious complications. Thanks for sharing your story.

My job is giving out free flu shots on Monday but I not sure if I should get one. Monday will be exactly one week before my surgery and I am not sure if I can. Anyone have an answer?

Well today I hit my six months with my band.. Yesterday - just one day till my 6 months I had to have my band removed. My Dr took me in for emergancey sugery. I had a horrible slippage. This was actually my second slippage in the six months. The frist one was from a fill being way to tight. This second one, no only was my fill tight ( I am one of those rare people that after a month or so the fill gets much more restriction) but I had a stomach bug and the two did not work well together. Needless to say I was deathly ill for a week from the slippage and when I finally went to the Dr they did an upper GI and I was rushed to surgery then. They were afraid that my stomach would tear from the slippage. That is how bad it is. I will say for me personally the last six months - yes I did lose by my Dr's paperwork 65 lbs and I am proud of that.. but all of the sickness I had, I am somewhat glad my band is gone now. Don't get me wrong. I am also a little sad. I will be rejoining Weight Watchers. I have a head start and I can lose this last 40lbs. I have faith in myself to do that. I am on liquids for 2 weeks to help heal my stomach and then I plan on joining. Everyone on here has been great. I enjoy the boards so much. I don't think I'll be visiting to often anymore. I need to start with my new lifestyle now. Some may ask, am I going to get rebanded. Right now the answer to that is NO. My Dr said that the chances of problems after being reband are even higher and after what I went throught the last week. I never want to go through that again. WW has worked well for me in the past, I just need to give it another fair chance. Thank you all for the support you have given. Good luck to everyone You will do great, the band just wasn't for me. Comparing My Journey Early November Banders
smpin1176 replied to bliiing's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi bliiing!!! I was banded on Nov 4th. I have lost 19lbs since surgery for a total of 46lbs now. I saw the nutritionist and surgeon just three days ago. I was in starvation mode and they progressed me to the final eating stage. Yeah for salads and raw veggies again. I was not given a fill because Dr thought I was not eating enough and that is why I am hungry. All together I am doing well. Still having some pulling on my right side which is getting better I have been told is port related. I am feeling better now that I am eating a little more. I feel as if I have a lot more energy. Sorry to hear about your kiddo. What stage of eating does your Dr have you at? Have you had a post op visit yet? -
I've been wondering this as well. I was sleeved on 12/29 and my birthday is 1/28. I have no idea what to do to celebrate. I'll only be 4 weeks post-op so I'll still be limited in what I can eat and drinking alcohol is out (which is typically how I celebrate). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Happy (early) birthday @Qtpie28!

Weight gain 10 D post op
Bobby46 replied to Marielbx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your body naturally fluctuates. I can go up 3lbs one morning and then back down the next....then stall for a few days...then drop 2lbs. Constant roller coaster. I am fighting myself about getting on the scale everyday. I talk myself out of skipping in and then jump on it when I pass it! Doc advises to just weigh once a week. HAHAHAHA Right! Try not to sweat it. If you are eating right and exercising and getting all your Water in then its just a goofy fluctuation. I only get mad at myself if I know I had too much salt or ....like at Christmas time, I ate a sugar cookie everyday for 5 stinking days and didn't track my food!! Hang in their friend! -
New Here ... Dr Ponce
Learningtotwinkle replied to Learningtotwinkle's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Thanks nursgirl, that is so exciting that you are so close to getting your surgery. My husband starts his new job in the next week or two sooo I probably wouldn't even qualify for a loan at the moment but I agree paying a crappy interest is worth your health so as soon as I can i will get it all together. I look forward to seeing and hearing all about your experience. I plan on doing the same I have also started a blog that as soon as I am sleeved I will make public -
Anyone Heard Of Certified Bariatric Surgeons?
Alex Brecher replied to michipita83's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Do NOT use them! They've been spamming members of this board these last few weeks. -
I agree with a lot of what has already been said about the plication. It is a slower form of w l s than others however it is important to remember that no matter what kind of surgery we have we must use our tool to the best of our ability. I was banded in 2001 and I did eventually lose 110 pounds however it took me 3 years. At the rate Im losing with plication I will lose roughly the same amount of weight in about half the time. I am very happy with my results however I do my part also. I work out at least 4 times per week and try to eat "right" the majority of the time. I had w l s to live a normal life not to take tons of vitamins every single day or watch every single thing I put in my mouth. So far for me plication has meant a more normal life.

I was required to provide three years worth of weight history for approval from my insurance. I said to the surgeon when I met with him that my biggest concern is that I will be rejected because I have been such a yo yo dieter and depending on the time I weighed in at the doctors my weight could be over 40 BMI or under 40 BMI. I just received my history from my doctors and three years ago I was at a BMI of 37 and two years ago at 39-- under the required 40 BMI that I am at now. I have no co-morbidities. Just a question- have any of you had this be your situation and how did it work with insurance? The surgeon said that he may need to fight with the insurance company, but that what he is looking for in a surgery candidate is someone who has been overweight for an extended period of time and not someone who just happened to gain weight after having a baby etc. Unfortunately, I don't know if insurance will care. Thoughts?

Preop liquid diet for sale
Mrs.FullerRN replied to Mrs.FullerRN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had lost a bunch of weight last year and then got pregnant and gained it all back. I have not even given myself a chance to get the baby weight off as my baby is only 4 months old. I started the preop diet and literally felt like I was going to die. I was shaking and sweating and throwing up. I do not feel that I can be a good mom while feeling that way for weeks upon weeks and lastly removing 80% of a healthy organ is irreversible. I might look into the band. -
After 6 months of working toward this surgery, I have decided not to to through with it. I'm just not ready. With that being said, I have already purchased my preop diet. It's by betterMD and Its 2 weeks, 6 days worth of shakes, Soups, broth and 1 day of Clear liquids. The shakes are mostly chocolate with a few boxes of chocolate mint, strawberry, and vanilla. I paid $225 asking $125 I will accept Paypal only. Please let me know if this is not allowed here.

traveling with a 10 mo old infant, 2 weeks out of surgery
bigtex52 replied to ana's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ana, one thing to watch out for and you might ask your surgeon about, for the first 2 weeks, I was restricted to not lifting anything over 10 pounds to avoid developing an incisional hernia. YMMV, so be sure to ask the doctor. Good luck, it will be a great thing once you get it done! -
Hi, I lost 5kg in the week after surgery and was then promoted to mushies. the post op liquid diet isn't too bad - the first few days you don't really feel like eating anyway and then you get Soups and smoothies and jelly and broth and drinking yoghurt - basically anything that goes up a McDonalds straw. You'll do fine!! Danna

Feeling low and exercise for the first time !
Luvin_Life125 replied to nicola2014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 8 days post op and am planning on advancing my walking from in and around my house to a treadmill next week. Take it slow and do not do more than your body is physically ready for. It is a very fine line between appropriate and adequate exercise for your stage of healing and having potential to injure yourself. Keep up the great work! -
I am starting my pre-op diet today. I keep telling myself 'it's just two weeks...'

So I finally got a date the last time I met with my surgeon - October 17th. (SO CLOSE!) He asked me to lose 10 pounds before the next time we met, and to meet with the psychiatrist again for the final clearance. The first time the psych wanted me to get stable on my antidepressant before clearing me. So I lost the 10 pounds and met with the psych. All good, right? Well, the psych told me he needed to get in touch with MY psychiatrist and therapist first, and that it should only take a few days. It has literally been a MONTH since then and he hasn't managed to get in touch with the psych yet (he did call the therapist.) My psych claims they've been playing "phone tag" but I suspect that neither of them have really put in the effort. I mean, how hard is it, really? A 3-minute phone conversation? So either way tomorrow I'm starting the liquid fast, even though this might have to be postponed. They can't send everything into insurance without the clearance, so I still might get bad news. Ugh! When I told the surgeon about this last Friday, to his credit he was pissed too and told me to call him if I don't hear anything from the coordinator or psych by tomorrow. I'm so stressed and annoyed about this. It wouldn't be the end of the world to postpone a month or a couple of weeks, but it seems like such a lame reason. I've gone through so much with the tests and clearances and now this? Anyway, wish me luck! I feel pretty good about the liquid fast, at least, and have stocked up on lots of Protein Powder and Crystal Lite the list the nutritionist gave me also included Diet Snapple, strangely enough, so I got a case of that, too. Onward!
