Scottyd1264 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the band 5 yrs ago, I am 5’4 my starting weight 205, I lost 50 pounds…. Band slipped this summer and had to be removed, started to gain the weight back, and got up to 180. Had the sleeve 2 weeks ago. I have already lost 18 pounds. This so different than the band, I don’t feel hungry at all. I am a afraid I am going to lose to much weight -
just a general question about habits
620to? posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi, this isnt brought up as a criticism of anyone. it happens to unbanded people in fact it is why i want one in part, regaining weight. hitting your goal, something in your life changes and we start gaining again. what surprises me is reading about people who are banded that get an unfill and report gaining quickly 20-30 lbs or more. the apprehension i have a week or so out from getting my band is ridiculous, i'm not only afraid i'll overeat and damage the band but the really disturbing thought is i'll miss being able to over eat. i should mention the flip side of that thought is liberating, being free of that sick feeling and life revolving around food. so, with the band do habits really change, do some of us too easily revert to overeating when restriction is removed or is there a long term change to metabolism that results in weight gain if we return to eating normal amount of calories? -
4 week Post-Op 2 week stall and weight GAIN :(
catwoman7 replied to mariazmk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you're in a stall. Almost everyone has their first stall during the first month or so after surgery. I had mine during weeks 2 and 3. It finally broke during week 4, and I dropped like 6-8 lbs practically overnight. Do a search on "three week stall" - it happens to almost everyone! You are fine - stop worrying! I started out where you are weight-wise, and I lost 16 lbs the first month. I thought I was never going to lose weight, but I lost over 200 lbs! Stick to your program and the weight WILL come off! Your surgeon is going to be delighted with your loss so far! -

4 week Post-Op 2 week stall and weight GAIN :(
Sheribear68 replied to mariazmk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay so I’m pretty sure everyone has a stall between weeks 2-4. Mine happened at 12 days post surgery and lasted almost 3 weeks. So here’s how it went: I lost 22 pounds in the first 12 days, then I lost 1.8 pounds over the next 20 days. There were a couple of times in that 20 days where I gained a 0.5-1 pound, then lose it, then regain. After week 5, I started losing again at the rate of 2.5 pounds/week average and 10 days ago I hit my 3 month stall (I was sleeved on 2-6-19). This time I’ve put the scale away and refuse to step on it for at least another week or two. Oh and during these last 10 days when I’ve lost zero weight I’ve managed to fit into a pair of pants that were really tight on me at the end of April so I’m not panicking. The weight will continue to fall off and the scale will continue to move down accordingly -
Hip Pain after 140 pounds lost. And also... where did this butt bone come from?!
bikrchk replied to endless80's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you don't get an adequate answer from your PCP, I would suggest seeing a sports med doc, (especially if you are active). They will likely do x-rays to make sure you don't have a mechanical problem and may offer PT or exercises to counter the issue. I say that as someone with hip displasia, (presented 20 years ago, but is degenerative to the cartilage and has caught up with me, even with the weight loss). I needed help designing an exercise routine that challenges me without exacerbating the damage. And yes! Hard surfaces are MUCH harder now! -
I finally have the green light to eat pureed and soft foods but I'm really struggling. Anything I eat - outside of Protein Drinks - I throw up. I thought maybe I was eating too much or maybe too fast so I weighted out 2 oz of rotisserie chicken and pulsed it in my Ninja. I took 10 minutes to eat it. Still no go. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions on things to try? Is this normal?

Well, I haven't been on the site for a long time and thought to check in. So far i have lost 83 lbs. I am in a state that I don't know where to buy clothes. I go to the plus size section out of habit and can't find anything. Then I go to the junior section and I am baffled about how I can now fit into a large or xl in junior size. Amazing?! I am now running on the treadmill which has shaped the body nicely so far. Also I have been doing weights: leg presses and shoulder lifts.

well i have had fill and was so scared but was really surprized how simple it was and even though i really don't feel any restriction and still eating as usual and no weight loss , i am not going to let this get to me i know i just need another fill to get this right. i would rather have to little than too much, i wish i could tell you guys on how much weight i have lost but pray that once i get this fill stage right i will be on my way also. i had a large fill compared to others i had 2.6 cc and know i need more but i had that strange feeling of fullness when it was being done , so i know its in there and the feeling i will get when i get enough fill , i had the fill and went in to the doctor right on lunch time my tummy was growling with hunger as i hadn't eaten lunch yet and it completely stopped after my fill. (freaky) i was so glad just to know that my band was in there and the fill made a difference . i know it is trial and error and i would rather have to little than too much so i will return soon for fill 2 and hope this fill will stop me eating as much, i will let you know any results soon hopefully i will join all of you that tell your stories of how much you have lost !!

Are these things allowed in stage 1 full liquids?
Bob2013 replied to Wires's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The hot chocolate is probably fine. But Peanut Butter,, nope, it is very, very high in calories and sugar. Not worth it. I really would not mess with peanut butter at all during your weight loss phase. There is a product called PB2. Its a powdered peanut butter that you add Water and stir. For me it satisfied the peanut butter crave and has a fraction of the calories. I get mine at walmart. If you prepared it with a little extra water, small bites of this would probably be ok on full liquids. -
HW 253 CW 196. I'm so happy is been such a while since the scale stood at the hundreds when I went on top of it. I love the fact that I got this surgery done every where I go I tell people my story so they 2 can do something about there weight. I can now run around with my one year old and tire him out. I love my new life can't wait to keep shedding these pounds off.

You still have the band and it is still working, but the only thing that can ruin your operation is getting it removed. The operation is a physical thing and is going to stay there. If you eat more calories than you burn, you will gain weight If you eat less calories than you burn, you will loose it. Shakes and Icecream and stuff that is soft and high calorie goes right through your band. If you eat good fish, or other good protien, it has more solid form and you can "pack" your pouch and little by little it goes through and gets digested. You feel full much longer, but if you drink while you eat, you rilnse it right through. You need to cooperate with the mechanics of the band, it is a tool, it doesnt strain our calories, it just makes it harder for you to continue to eat large portions. A shake or pudding or mushie cakes are just not going to give you the good nutrition you need to be healthy. Once in a while, we all eat something wrong, but it is a lot easier to get back with the program. Your band will remain, you can return to your good habits and continue to loose pounds. It wont ruin your operation.

Gabi, it just shows that the band is a tool. It will not lose the weight for us, it will "help" us. However, we have to do our part and make wiser choices. If we drink milkshakes all day long, there is no way we will lose weight. If we have a milkshake every now and then, just on special occaions, it won't hurt us. But we just need to remember that we need to make right choices the majority of the time. You've done great so far!

Pain under my ribs, rite above my port, what could it be?
medonahue4688 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Looking for some help. Got a fill approximately 2 weeks ago on 1-17. Last friday i began to get some back pain that radiated to my left ribs, above my port. I do not have my gallbladder. I know there is a possibility of it being cramps or gas because it does come and go but i am also worried something could be wrong with my band. I have been able to eat normal size lap band servings. Could my port be moving due to weight loss? Any other ideas? Thanks ahead of time! -
I had a hysterectomy last year, but kept my ovaries since they were producing the right amount of hormones. I dont' know if you still have yours, but as mentioned I would get my hormone level checked. I know Gabapentin can be used for psych meds too and I personally know those can cause libido to drop. I don't know the side effects of the Gabapentin but with weight loss your system can absorb medicines different. My sex drive goes up and down, but my Dr's are messing with my psych meds. After I take them a while, it goes back up. And since we are talking intimate here, I have had issues with getting wet as well. I feel excited and if I touch myself or when my hubby touches me, it shocks me to know I don't have the wetness I thought I would. I am scheduled to see my ob/gyn on the 1st for my yearly, so now we've been discussing this, I will mention it to him

One week gone....Im feeling really good, still have a little pain but starting to feel a bit hungry now. I know now why I have had this done ..I want to be healthy and fit and not to be fat anymore. hard to believe I was once 180kgs and being on optifast I then got down to 160 kgs. Dont know what I am now Im just excited to see the new me happening. After all my years of growing up with eating disorders and years of counselling I can honestly say for the first time in my life I am not worried about food and my weight. I know now I am on the right path for happiness...ohh I am happy with my life..Darren and the kids are great I love them with all my heart. I mean happy to go out in public and to socialise with out worrying what people are going to say. To hell with them...:nervous

I was banded 9/19 and had my first fill on 10/24 (2cc in 5cc band) and feel no additional restriction and no weight loss since fill, I have however had a 7% body fat reduction and the office says to focus on that. I am having another fill on 11/28. The office also said it's very common to need another fill (or more). Don't be discouraged, you've only just started on the road, and it's a long one, just try and stick to the diet and keep exercising! Good luck!

Friends! I just had an epiphany. I am almost five months post-op. Today is the start of spring. A very long and cold and wet winter is behind me. And from today I am kicking up a gear! Going to join a gym ASAP come Monday. Enough of this lazying around. The time has come for me to honestly make the most of this precious tool I have received. I have lost 75 pounds (34 kg) since my highest weight. My goal is to be under a 100 kilos (under 220 pounds) by Christmas. That will be my gift to myself. I am 257 pounds (117 kg) now. You think a loss of 37 pounds (17 kgs) is possible by Christmas? Little less than four months. Theoretically it should be. But my weightloss has creeped to a very slow loss. Perhaps my lack of exercise, but also my menu choices. I am struggling deciding what to eat and being an active participant in what i get in. I am sure i dont get in nearly enough Protein. I know I am just probably lazy to make the effort. But I do feel overwhelmed quite easily, so I try and not berate myself so often. Any tips? What is your go to menu plan for a given day? Something tried and true? I dont take shakes at all as they tend to make my feel nauseous (I am lactose intolerant). Even if i make them with Water - it still has the consistence of something milky and I struggle to get it down! Hope to hear some good tips to get to my goal by Christmas! Anyone joining me???

Sooooo slow ~ What's wrong with me?
NurseGrace replied to Thood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What did you lose prior to surgery? Most of us count our preop dieting weight loss into our total. I had surgery in january, and technically since surgery day I have lost 37 pounds but the weeks prior to surgery I lost quite a bit, bring my total to 56 pounds which is the number I ALWAYS USE. If you didn't bother with a preop diet or were not instructed to go on one, you seem to be right on track as far as I can tell. -
I Have A Bad Feeling About This
sheshard2hold replied to BANDZILLA's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello, I was banded Dec.12th 2005, If you felt what you called a perfect restriction and now after severe vomitingnone, then listen to your body! You know with your weight loss how it felt before ,call the doc asap........I hope you already have. I can barely eat 5 ounces, i know we sare only allowed 4 ozs. but I tried to test my limit a few times and you know that HORRIBLE ,CRUSHING feeling we get in our chests when we cheat.......that's the band doing it's job."preventing overeating". I hope to hear back from you and that you have resolved the problem. I recently spent Dec 25 -Jan 2 in the hosp. due to my port having a bad infection and being removed. But my origional restriction is still keeping me in line!! I will be reoperted on in about 3-4 mos.to reconnect the port in another location. GOOD LUCK -
Sooooo slow ~ What's wrong with me?
mariamitani replied to Thood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How many calories do you eat a day? I read that until you get to goal calories should be 600-800 a day. Protein 70 , 64 ounces water. You did start at a low BMI, the closer to your ideal weight the harder it gets to lose. Exercise will make you loose faster. Hang in there it will come off eventually. -
This happened to me before surgery as well - from my sister, who is also severely obese. After my surgery was scheduled, she tried everything to change my mind, including trying and then recommending the latest diet fad, going to the gym with her regularly, and sending me emails with articles about how damaging the lap band could be. I finally just told her to knock it off, that I felt she was trying to sabotage me and was making me feel bad, and if she couldn't be supportive to stop calling me. We didn't talk for a few days, and she didn't come over at all during my recovery, but she's come around now. She's still on her crazy diet fads, but cheers my weight loss. She brought over all the clothes she doesn't fit in anymore (she's now only 1 size smaller than I am) and was amazed that I could fit into them. I think one of the real reasons she was so against it was that not just that she was jealous, but that she was really scared something would happen to me. Our mother died 7 years ago and since then I've been the "mom" to her and my other little sister. I think it brought up some bad memories of our mother dying and how alone we all felt. Now that she sees I'm fine and I'm happy and losing weight, she's more cheerful. Give your friend some time to get used to it - hopefully she will come around later on when she sees you are okay.
