    Pretty specific request

Hi , I buy Fage plain greek yogurt ( 20 grams protein per container) and mix a fruit flavored greek yogurt usually about 14-16 grams of protein. Do that just twice a day and you will almost hit your daily amount of protein. Also soy nuts taste great and one cup is about 36 grams of protein. Salad with beans of any kind, cottage cheese, cubed cheese, tofu. Read labels and experiment with different combinations. I was not a protein drink fan but there are flavorless protein powders you can add to anything . Good luck

WW TV dinner & Lean Cuisines

I LOVE LOVE the spaghetti with meat sauce. It has a good amount of Protein and I eat all the sauce/meat and about half the Pasta. I eat that for lunch like, 4 days a week. One day I had a turkey dinner and ended up burping for about 6 hours afterwards. So I have only stuck with the spaghetti. But I do find in general those things don't taste very good anymore. Be careful with the microwaved meat. It can give some people problems. For the cost of the meals it's probably not really worth it, unless there are one or two that seem to have high enough protein and low enough calories AND sit well in your stomach. I have tried a few others and dumped them out... they just aren't that good to me anymore....except that darn spaghetti! I buy like 5 at a time!

WW TV dinner & Lean Cuisines

I do use Lean Cuisines and WW meals for lunch at work. I eat the protein 1st and then the veggies. I rarely finish all and I try to stuck with the ones that only have a meat and veggies.

    am i getting enough calories?

Absolutely not! But don't concentrate on the calories as much as Protein. You have to get at least 50 grams of protein a day in order to heal your body and burn fat. The calories will come with the protein.

    am i getting enough calories?

I can't help there. I love Protein shakes. Hopefully someone else can help. There are lots of people here that hate protein shakes.

    Is this a true stall?

Ash - I'm not sure what to say. Until reading the previous post, I would have said to up the protein and get in more water. What does your doctor say? I know for me (pre-surgery and post surgery) that the more protein I got, the less I wanted to eat of other things. What is your caloric intake? Are you still tracking your meals?
  8. I'm not sure if this is a stall or if I'm just not working hard enough any more... I haven't lost anything for about 6 weeks now. I've lost a total of 108 pounds and I'm very happy with that, but I'm far from thin. My weight fluctuates between 243-245 daily. I really need to get another 50-60 pounds off and I'm starting to wonder if it will happen. I've been exercising consistently for about 2 weeks now (5-6 times a week) but I really think my problem is my eating. I'm not getting the 80-100 grams of Protein a day...it's more like 40-60. My husband recently decided he wants to eat healthier, so hopefully that will help. Any suggestions? I also have not been getting all my Water in daily.

    Is this a true stall?

Wow 108 pounds! Congratulations on your success so far! My weight loss has also slowed down, and I still have quite a ways to go. I think you are on the right track by shaking things up a bit and working out. My doctor recently told me that after our initial healing from surgery, new studies show that 40 grams of protein a day is plenty. After hearing so much about the importance of getting protein in, and atleast 60-70 grams a day this concept is still hard for me to believe. But atleast on the days when I don't get enough, I'm not as worried about it. I would just try to drink more water, and continue working out, hopefully your body will finally let go and you'll start losing again! That's what I've been hoping for anyways. Good luck with your continued weight loss, and let us know if things improve.

    What if it doesn't work?

I am 9 Weeks out, down 32lbs. I still worry that I wont hit my goal weight. I can tell you that you can not eat the portions you ate before. It is painful to eat too fast or too much. Every time I eat, I think about it. Not because it is a habit, but you feel it. I don't eat mindlessly. Because I eat so much less now, what I eat is a lot more important to me. Protein first, always. Yes, I've had cookies. But not a bag full, 2 little cookies. And that's all I needed. I went a couple Weeks and gained a pound! But my body re adjusted and I am back to losing. Being scared or anxious is normal. The sleeve is what you make it, it will not cure you, it is a tool. I have to re program my brain and my relationship with food. It won't happen overnight, but neither did the weight gain. Trust your doctor and when the pounds start coming off, you'll be so happy, eating crap food doesn't sound so great. It motivates me.
  11. Hi All I have a surgery date of July 23rd 15 , which makes 30 days today until I go under the knife! What concerns me most is how much of a mental thing the pre-op diet is. I have been on/off diets all year with my only success in January, when I did 28 days of Protein shakes only (its a diet called EXANTE here in the UK). Since then it has been an absolute struggle to do anything, hence the decision for surgery. Yesterday was supposed to be the start of the pre-op diet (which I have been told I only need to do for 7-10 days before, but wanted to make a good start). However, I ended up feeling hungry and then went into an overeat mode in the evening, sigh. I have woken up very early this morning with load rushing through my head, and I am now thinking that as I am paying £9000 out of my own pocket, I should really make a better effort. So my question is, what do I do? Stick to my 1000kcals a day and suck up the hunger Return to the Protein shake diet which is really hard, but will give the best start to my surgery Don't worry about the pre-op diet until 7-10 days before my op I don't want an out, so I am not looking for all you nice people to say "Go for 3", I am looking to you guys that were or are in the same position to me to let me know what you did, why you did it and what motivated you. Thanks all.
  12. Hello All.... I have my surgery date! Nov. 16th... the day after my birthday...so I am gonna say this will be my new birthday I am doing the pre diet and find it hard to get the protein shakes down....anyone have any tips to makes things go more smoothly?

    long time lapbanders input requested

I was banded in February and I am still learing! I tried low carb, too much sodium for me. I tried weight watchers, not enogh restriction, so now I am counting caloires, carbs, protien and fibers. I eat only right portions. BUT...I cant seem to stay away from slider foods on the weekends. The weekdays are great and easy i take my food to work, i am not allowed to leave work for 730-5 and we have no vending machines. BUT on the weekends i seriously need help. I can lose 5pounds m-f and gain 4-6 on the weekend! HELP. does anyone have any ideas for me? Maybe if I eat more protein bars during the weekend i wont be tempted to eat more? What kind of protein bars do yall reccomend? I need low carb.

Back at Work & I had an increase in my appetite

I felt hunger the first few days. Now I do not feel hungry at all. Are you sure that you are not feeling more of a somatic response to old behaviors? It is comforting to pack a lunch (I used to do) with all the little goodies we like to treat ourselves with. You shouldn't feel hungry at all. I am 11 days out and am not hungry at all unless I am low on protein and then I feel "cloudy" at which point I will grab an Atkins shake or make a protein smoothie. That is how I know I need to eat something at this point. The remaining 90% of the time is just sheer mental lust for food.
  15. Today I officially returned to work and it felt so good to be back. The day was pretty much slow so I caught up on the 256 emails I had received and reviewed the open positions available. I had a normal day but the only thing I encountered was being hungry every 2 hours. I could not believe the way my stomach was acting. Because I just assumed I wouldn't have an appetite. I only packed 1 package of instant oatmeal, 1 cup of chickent tortilla soup and some no sugar added apple sauce. I also brought my caffeine free iced tea with some non flavored protein. Did anyone experience an increase in hunger when they went back to work? Let me know what you did when you returned back to work and what type of lunch did you pack? What did you pack to snack on in between meal? I sipped on my protein all day but I was still hungry. I am still on soups and I won't be able to start on regular foods until June 10th. I need some help with food suggestions.
  16. I'm sory you are having such a difficult time with pre-op. I didn't have a plan like that, but I'm sure I would have had problems too. Just try to take it one day at a time, or one scoop at a time. You will get through this. As far as post-op, MOST of us had difficulty getting in our Protein the first weeks or even that first month. It will get easier. Just remember that it is temporary - you will be back to real food shortly. Best of luck.
  17. Well here is my story, I was banded Nov 24, 2008. I have had 3 fills and I definitely have restriction. I can eat about 3/4 of a cup or 1 cup sometimes. I have lost about 48 pounds since surgery, which I am completely excited about. But here is my problem, I have lost about 6 pounds since February 21st. What is going on? Actually my scale is up and down usually the same 5 pounds constantly. I can't break this plateau. I am unsure what to do? I walk at least 3 times a week and up to 5 times a week on a good week. The past two weeks I have read other posts and thought maybe I should up my calories. I went to thedailyplate.com and it said to up my calories. I usually eat about 800 calories a day and so I upped them to about 1200 calories a day. I have also increased my protein as well. And still the same 5 pounds are up and down. I just feel like what am I doing wrong?:eek:

I love the greek yogurt. It has 14 grams of protein and seems to keep me satisfied.

Back at Work & I had an increase in my appetite

I actually talk to a good friend who was sleeved also and she gave me some great suggestion. The problem was that I wasn't eating frequently. I should have at least been eating someting every 2 hours. Well today I was better prepared. I made sure I packed some extra unsweeted apple sauce, Jello and I have my Protein shake to sip on through out the day. I also have my soup for lunch as well. Things seem to be better than yesterday. I can't wait until I am able to get regular foods. I will have more food choices to pack to snack on. I can't wait to have some string cheese, nuts, tuna etc. But until then I will stick to the soups and all the soft stuff. Thanks for all the advice it surely does help. By the way has anyone tried the Total Lean shakes by GNC. The have 25 grams of protein, 170 calories plus 24 Vitamins and mineral & Lactose free. I am drinking the Swiss chocolate with 2 teaspoons of PB2 which is powdered Peanut Butter. OMG! this stuff is so good. It is recommended to have 2 tablespoon which is 53 calories and 5 grams of protein. They sell it at Wal-mart in the section where they have peanut butter. You can mix Water with it to make your own peanut butter. I found a link that give you a little information about it. Check it out and tell me what you think. Again, thanks for all of your help! http://www6.netrition.com/bell_plantation_pb2.html

    Confused about Carbs...

If you're referring to post-op, as Fireflea says, you should be focusing on getting in your Protein and Water FIRST. I avoided any fruit (other than the occasional strawberry or two chopped up in my high protein yogurt) for the first 9 months post-op. Fruit does have nutritional value, but to your body it is basically candy that grows on trees. Stick with non-starchy vegetables and you will get just as many nutrients without the sugar load.

    Sweet taste, dry heaves

After surgery, the most important requirements are Protein, fluids and Vitamins. food is only secondary because your body is converting stored fats into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. It sounds like you are having problems in at least two of the three required areas. Are you getting in the required protein supplements (protein shakes) each day? How is that going? Your blood work shows low levels, generally this could be caused by Vitamin deficiencies. You indicated you have problems with Fluid intake. I recommend you experiment. For fluid intake try other things until you find something that works for you. My tastes after surgery changed so much that I found it hard to drink even Water. It was a struggle. I used Crystal Light and that worked for me. But later I found fine English teas that also worked. The liquid content of Soups also count towards your fluid requirement. Since you are talking about the fact that you are so nauseous and constantly dry heaving and vomiting up saliva. This combined with the fact that you are unable to eat minimal amounts of food, almost makes me think you may have a stricture (too much scar tissue at the site of the operation seriously restricting food intake). This is fairly easy to correct. http://www.realself.com/question/stricture

24 and 10 days post op

I'm at the "full liquid stage" so I can have blended soups and protein shakes along with water and broth... I see my dr Tuesday so I can get released to start the baby food portion for one week. After that I start soft foods which I'm very excited about. Could be worse I read things from people who had to be on full liquid for a month!

woah, doped up on peanut butter

I don't know what that was but maybe after practically zero carbs since surgery maybe it was the fat person carb equivalent of a drinker having alcohol after having been clean for awhile - it really hit my system. It was regular PB so maybe it was a combo of pure protein, intense carb, and sugar. Whatever it was, it was wierd.

WTF? Not Losing 3.5 weeks Post

ok- the hunger thing.:tt2: It is driving me freakin' crazy too. Not a craving for cr*p-food head hunger---a real gnawing, stomach churning feed-me-now hunger! (I exercise, eat plenty of Protein, low low carbs, plenty of Water etc etc) I am INSANELY jealous of bandsters who say they don't get hungry. What? Are you kidding me????? The only time I am satiated for more than 3 hours is after my evening meal. After dinner, I don't have any desire to eat again til the next morning.(Praise the Lord!) And yes, I am hungry in the morning. And yes, I do have some restriction. So Tangerine dreams, YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!!!! I just had my 3rd fill, (I was banded mid December 2007) and was on 2 month weight plateau until this last fill. They told me I had lost 3 pounds. Woo Hoo.:glare: Well, it is about freakin time because have been dieting since the surgery!!!!!!. To me, the BEST part of the band is that that with the fills, if I mind my p's and q's, I will not regain what I typically have always done in the past. The WORST part of the band is that I am STILL HUNGRY! Short of drugs, I don't know if that part will ever end. Or at least, that is what it feels like to me. Even though "they" told me that one good thing about the band was that it band stops hunger. :icon_bs:HA! HA! HA! HA!........ NOT!!! The weird thing is that I am not eating any less now than I have for the last two months. Nothing has changed. Will the weight loss continue? I sure hope so. One pound a week ain't great, but it is better than stalling. And, I have halved my Blood pressure meds and anti-inflammatories! So that is good too-especially for an almost 59 year old post-menopausal woman with creaky joints.

    Advice needed regarding eating problems

Drinking warm fluids does help some people to open up a bit. Another thought is that stress plays a HUGE role in how tight you are. I have a friend that can't eat with her kids at meal time because they are all boys and happens to be these boys have few table manners. She gets so stressed she can't eat. As Carlene would say, she's tighter than a virgin on prom night. One thought is to make extra sure you are following bandster guidelines. Eat slowly, chew well, don't overeat, etc. Make sure you are eating in a totally stress free environment. Make extra sure you are sitting up very straight and not hunched over. Without great posture it can change the positioning of your band and food just doesn't go down well. I know this is a big issue of mine. I eat while I am typing, talking, etc. and I'm not paying attention to posture. It really can make a huge difference for some folks. Don't eat if you are too tight. If food gets stuck you will cause swelling and the swelling gets worse with each bite until you get to the point that you can't swallow your own saliva. If you get stuck you might want to do liquids for at least six hours. If you PB don't eat or drink anything for six hours and finish the day with liquids. You really don't sound overfilled to me. If you were you wouldn't be able to get solid food down at all. It sounds like you are tight earlier in the day and okay in the evening. Dr. C even discusses patients that he has that he actually fills in the evening. He doesn't care if they can't eat solids during the day as long as they can in the evening. He talks about some patients that open wide up in the evening and they chow down like a trooper. In those folks he fills them so they are tight all day long and around 5PM they can start solids. During the day when you are extra tight try to stick to liquids. Soup, Protein drinks, fruit smoothies, something like that. Once you open up a bit then try solids. But again, if you are too tight DON'T eat solids! You'll cause swelling and make the problem worse.
