    Pureed Food Stage

Take it slow, when I started eggs were too tough. I ended up doing lentil soup, which was good and very liquid. I did do some purée chicken (puréed chicken and some light mayo dressing). My purée stage was 2 weeks, so I didn't get too creative and mostly did shakes or soup and at the end yogurt. Soft foods is a much more fulfilling stage.
  2. Hi All, I was 59 last August. My bypass was almost 4 weeks ago. Doing great. Down 35 lbs so far. Not a fan of puréed food,so sticking to mostly protein drinks and lots of fluids. Tomorrow going to have some yogurt or cottage cheese oh and totally loving soft scrambled egg with cheese! Best of luck !

    Any January 2018 Sleevers?

I'm sore on the left side of my belly and my rib cage. I think that was from the gas and not being able to move. I believe the only dumb question is the one not asked. Having said that, I haven't been afraid to drink anything after the first day but I did drink a sip of carbonated water accidentally.....i would not recommend. Try to keep drinking your protein shakes. my book says to start by drinking 4 ounces over one hour and build up slowly and remember the shakes count, yogurt counts, strained soup counts too. I'm not a doctor but you can try that until you contact your doctor. Good 🍀

    November 7th sleevers

Ughhh, Stalled and frustrated with my eating routine. I need help trying to figure out how to get more protein based calories in. It's hard because I'm still struggling to eat more than 2oz of dense proteins at a time, and by then I have to move on to hydration 30 mins later. I have resorted to using honey in yogurt because it adds calories but does not take up additional stomach space otherwise I'm at about 400 calories and I believe my body is trying to go into starvation mode but honey adds sugars, le sigh. I'm eating about 500-700 calories a day, mostly 60g protein almost 48g carbs. Maybe im doing it all wrong. And ideas, plans, prayers?

    Late December Sleevers?

I usually pace myself and it takes me like 30 minutes to finish 1 yogurt. And it will leave me content, but then I’m hungry an hour later.

    Late December Sleevers?

I go back and forth! I'm starting to introduce foods. So far the only thing it seems I can't tolerate is refried beans. I'm going slow, though. I'm gobbling up yogurt. I don't feel starving, but I do feel hungry often. But I find I can't finish even a small yogurt. But then 30 min later, I feel hungry again... Sent from my Pixel using BariatricPal mobile app

    Late December Sleevers?

I am phase 2 post op, but my surgeon has a really strict phase 2 and mine seems to be different then everyone’s. 1 week post surgery I’m on clear liquids only w/ 1 protein shake a day. That’s phase 1. Phase 2 is 2 weeks of full liquids, my choices are yogurt, creamed soups strained, broth, jello, pudding, popsicles and that’s it. Today I had some tomato soup w/ skim milk. And then couple popsicles and for dinner I had a protein shake. That’s all I really could force myself to eat today lol.
  8. Mine was 12-28. I found it easy to constantly sip water/Gatorade. I kept it on me everywhere I went. The protein was hard initially to get 60g. I am honestly still having trouble with it but it’s getting easier. I have found that i can do 4 gulps of premiere protein shake at a time. So I try to take 4 gulps every 2-3 hours. Then for lunch I have a yogurt. Then I start my second shake when I get home. Then for dinner I have Campbell’s tomato soup watered down (not much of it), and then before bed i try to finish my second shake. This seems to be a pretty good routine and is actually pretty easy to consume throughout the day. Hope this helps!!

  10. Hello everyone, I'm 11 days post op and today a had a stick of string cheese. I chewed it up very well but obviously it was a mistake. With the blizzard my protein shakes didn't come on time and I had to babysit last minute so I had the cheese. I plan on calling my doctor monday and letting him know. My concern is that I felt no restriction after eating the cheese, I haven't felt restriction regarding my fluids either. I'm worried that my sleeve was botched. Is this possible?? Btw the cheese did not harm me in anyway and I drank lots of water after, I plan on going back to full protein shake the remainder of my week until I can start greek yogurts.

8 Days Post Op And Starving

I tried the whipped Greek yogurt at the airport yesterday and it was SO good! I am grabbing some for post op!
  12. I was four weeks out on Monday. I'm getting between 600 and 700 calories per day, with one or two weird days when I was ravenous and hit mourn 900 calories of protein shakes, yogurt, and refried beans. I expect that when I am allowed to start exercise that is more vigorous than walking, my calorie count will increase. That's at six weeks, so not long now!

    What happens if you overeat?

I am a month out, and learning the volume that I can/should eat is one of the challenges for me. I've found that if I overdo it I get the mouthful of saliva, maybe some hiccups, and a general feeling of unease or anxiety. I haven't vomited, but I think I have been close. It's very unpleasant and unnerving. I am now using a bite timer to slow down, and I am paying very, very close attention to the merest hint that I am full. It's usually after two or three bites of a denser protein, and maybe five bites of something like Greek yogurt. The moment when my brain wants one more bite but my stomach is satisfied but not overfull is the moment when I walk away from the food.

    1 month post op! [emoji76]

I could only have puréed food at the one month stage - so some meat and vege but mashed or blended. Plus yogurt and puréed fruit porridge - going for nutrition as much as possible. I’ve also had protein powder to ensure I hit my protein goals.

8 Days Post Op And Starving

My favorite "first foods" were oatmeal and cream of wheat thinned with protien drink. Also had great luck with yogurt (greek whipped) and cottage cheese. Mashed potatoes were recommended by my nutritionist because they are very easy to digest and are often tolerated when other things are not. They are on our encouraged list.

    Too much fish?

I’m technically on “very soft foods” now, which includes non-puréed scrambled eggs, fortunately. I ran the numbers and I should only need to do one protein shake per day, I can get the rest of the necessary protein from yogurt, string cheese, baby food meat, and milk.

    What happens if you overeat?

Did you get guidelines from your plan? Month 1 most of us focus on liquids and soft protein. I don't get severe stomach pains, I just feel over full. Make sure you hydrate. Try soft foods like yogurt or beans if you can't handle solids yet.

    Pureed Food Stage

I'll share the foods that are on my list of pureed and very soft foods, but some that spring to mind are: Nonfat yogurt (regular and Greek) Nonfat cream cheese (weird to think of just eating some cream cheese, but OK) I've also been eating unsweetened apple sauce and enjoying it, may try sprinkling some cinnamon on top. Also, I highly recommend this: https://www.amazon.com/Fresh-Start-Bariatric-Cookbook-Weight-Loss/dp/1623157730/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1515181665&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=bariatric+cookbook&psc=1

    Late December Sleevers?

I’ll be two weeks Tuesday and my nutritionist says I can start purée then. I’m, so tired of not real food, I find myself not eating at all, instead of the yogurt or shake. Also I’ve been drinking this protein water and I think it gives me gas. Anybody else?

    December Sleevers??

I'm in the same week-3-stall boat, which is discouraging, but apparently very common. Everyone says to keep doing what you're doing and it will pass. Fingers crossed. I'm also lactose intolerant, so all that yogurt and cottage cheese is a definite no. At my nutritionist's suggestion I have been making bean soups (lentils, black beans) and throwing them in the blender. They go down very easy and are high in protein. If you don't like to cook there are some decent ready-made options at the grocery store - just blend and eat. Just my opinion, but if you're still experincing pain from your hernia repair, you might want to stick with just walking for now. Some people take a walk in the morning and the evening - that could be a good option for you. More vigorous exerise can wait until you're healed and feeling up to it.

    What do I focus on?

Give yourself a list of staple protein foods and if you have a rough idea of those things then you won't even need to stress and count carbs and sugars. Keep it as unprocessed as possible. Keep cheeses, deli meats, beans, chicken, steak, shrimp, jerky, pork rinds etc on hand, some of your fav veggies, greek yogurt, approved protein shakes. Then get creative with your meal prep.
