Hi Everyone tomorrow is two weeks and I have moved to Stage 3. Tonight was the best so far, mashed potatos with pureed chicken, a tbsp of gravy and creamed spinach. My finance who is a week behind asked me to eat upstairs LOL. Doing fine with 3-4 meals oer day. Yogurt, egg, smoothies, purred carrots, peas, spinach, peaches, creamer soups. Purred chicken salads. And drinking liquids in between. Starting exercising today and was able to sleep on my stomach last night!!! I think I might go get a massage this weekend :wink2: First fill is July 28th, looking foward to it but I am afaird it is going to hurt, I hate needles and the fear of the unknown is getting to me. Those of you who have had their fill please tell me about it. Kiki220

Soft Stage Has Me In Knots
skinnygirljga replied to Amisha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can eat mashed potatoes even instant. Baked chicken breast, and fish. yogurt basically everything that is tender and you chew well. Staying away from the obvious pasta rice fried etc. Season the meat to taste and put it in the oven. Slow cookers are great for meals , you can do meat potatoes and veggies. -
Soft Stage Has Me In Knots
HeatherO replied to Amisha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cottage cheese, refried beans with a little melted cheese and yogurt are great for something quick when you are already very hungry and need something fast. There are definitely a lot of great recipes as well. -
tuna salad, yogurt, cheese, chili, cottage cheese, soups (no meat) pasta, those types of foods. Go to the "food" section and there will be a post on Mushy stage recipes. Good luck.

At work, forgot lunch...where to go???
emjay replied to emsbugbug's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
McDonald's Yogurt Parfait - 160 calories of yum. Arby's roast beef (bun or no bun). KFC roasted chicken. Wendy's hamburgers seem to go down pretty well - juicy/moist. Best advice though is keep a few things at work in case of days like this (easy to say now huh!) Things that are shelf stable - like a fruit/nut mix (can keep you filled for hours), canned mandarin oranges, I've also seen some shelf-stable packaged meals (Hormel? - not sure the brand) that might work in a pinch. Granola is always good - although can be high in calories like the fruit/nut mix. A little goes a long way. -

I know puree foods are not always the best looking dishes. However after working 6 years as a cook in a nursing home I learned some tips to make them a little better. Whatever meat you are pureeing use that kind of broth(not water) chicken broth in chicken of turkey, beef broth in beef or you can use the low fat gravy in a jar for the liquid. If you get them to thin use some instant potatoe powder to thicken them back up. Use plenty of seasoning. We even went to the extreme sometimes of putting the puree in a pastry bag and made the food back to it original shapes. I know it is still not the same , but it is only temporary. Somethings don't have to be pureed to qualify for the mushy stage...Grits. oatmeal, potaotes, cottage cheese, yogurts, applesauce, banana's, jello and creamed soups. Campbells has a large variety of creamed soups. I had cream of shrimp yesterday and it was good. I know we are not prfect and I did take a few bites of regular food before I read all these post and after thinking about what some of them said have decided it is not worth a "maybe" to eat food. I tried it my way for 39 years, so why not try it the docs way for a while, after all I have lost 40 pounds his way...Good Luck to you all.. -
This diet seems like BS and I am pouting
perk4756 replied to forgetit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5 days post op too and can barely drink a half can of broths day half a yogurt and only one bottle of water. Have added unflavored protein to all. Until today felt like razor blades when hitting my stomach. So myself I would be afraid to stray from the diet -
Recommend A Great Protein Bar
Mr_Worm replied to Tai29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
for side protein I use Greek Vanilla yogurt (15 grams of protein tastes great goes down smooth) and for others I use the Atkins bars. I try to find the ones with lower calories but with higher protein. I just had a peanut butter bar one that had 19 grams of protein, 1 gram of sugar...but has 220 cals...based on what I've ate for the day I was able to fit it in. -
Protein powder taste?
SandyinFL replied to SandyinFL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, everyone. I appreciate the feedback. I'll try a little of the Isopure powder I have (a small bag) and see how it goes. At least now I know I won't be ruining a whole cup of yogurt or pudding. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
2-3 weeks out, beginning soft solids
sleevedshereen replied to GotProlactinoma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on the 14th of July. I've been able to eat like cooked salmon, scrambled eggs, boiled chicken, refried beans, string cheese, greek yogurt, meatballs and really soft stuff. I have noticed that my stomach can't tolerate sharp cheddar cheese because anytime I have put that on beans or eggs to melt...i get a pain in my stomach...Also, I need to remember to slow down and take smaller bites because when I don't, I get these painful cramping things in my stomach...its like a few stabbing pains like my stomach letting me know it didnt like it and then it goes away a minute or two after. I am not drinking nearly enough liquids as I should and not getting enough protein in. I've been at a stall for a week and ahalf. I need to be better about my liquids and protein and walk more. -
Anyone know someone who had the ESG procedure more than 2 years ago?
Tex Slim 66 replied to SammieKay's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Hey Hope4momof4 great post, thanks for adding the calories. You are getting more than enough protein, couple minor suggestions. Here's how your diet compares to mine, I'm eating about 800-1000 calories per day: 2 eggs in morning, have less protein ( only 12G) but also less calories (125) than smoothy. Morning snack non-fat yogurt. 17 gram protein, 90 calories For lunch and dinner think about using a scale for protein and veggie portions. For lunch I eat 3 ounces protein (usually chicken) 23 g protein, 200 calories. Afternoon snack- sugar free pudding 60 calories For dinner I'm using 3-4 ounces of protein and 1/4 cup of brown rice or pasta and 1/4 cup of green veggies. Salmon 2x per week, Chicken 2x per week, steak once. Usually about 300 calories, 20 grams protein. One more thought if I look at weight loss by month, don't get too depressed with only first month, there's more weight loss to come. Stick to your plan, you can Here's my weight loss by month: First month 16 lbs 2nd month 13 lbs 3rd month 10 lbs Let me know what you think, Tex -

Did your nutritionist give you a list of foods for this stage? My guideline for mushies was that they should be the consistency of babyfood. Your stomach shouldn't have to do much churning for digestion, and mushies are just the next step in working your way back to softer then more solid foods. Mushies should be things like mashed potatos, yogurt, oatmeal, refried beans. I think the toast was too much too soon, heck scrambled eggs and toast is a regular breakfast, lol. I'm sure you didn't do any damage, but anytime you PB you need to have liquids for the next meal or two.....so take it easy today!

I do yogurt or oatmeal. I am pretty tight in the morning and "real food" is usually not an option. I have managed a turkey sausage link here and there but that's not too often. We just returned from Disney and I took protein shake mix with me and ordered a skim milk and had a shake. I have also discovered that egg salad works well but is high fat and cholestrol, so I try to avoid it. I have also eaten grits, and the occasional turkey or chicken salad with wheat crackers. Also most places have a "diet plate" usually half a cantalope filled with cottage cheese. Last time I was in Mexico I lived on fruit smoothies and that was preband. ~Mandy

My standard breakfast is yogurt these days....but occassionaly skip that in favor of a skim sugar free latte. LOL Some days I have morning star veggie bacon...not sure how long it keeps though once cooked. I sometimes cook it and pack for lunch. It's crisp when cooked in the micowave and generally crisp is no problem. Protien shakes is another good idea. You could always pour them over ice if you don't have a way to keep them cold. I'm going on a cruise in June and already I'm thinking about what I'm going to eat. I'm not sure if its smart planning or just my obbsessiveness! LOL

They have quite a few healthier options. I alternate between here and Chick-fil-A when I’m in need of something quick. Another tip for young parents ls that chick fila you can get a kids meal too, but with grilled nuggets and fresh fruit. Also for a really special treat you can substitute frozen yogurt in place of the toy but only if your headed straight home to put in freezer cause you probably won’t be able to eat it after the other food. many people love their diet lemonade as well.

@@angelinnc32, Did you go thru a program to get the surgery? They should have provided you with all the information. Biggest thing is to stay hydrated and get your Protein in. I suppose right now you can do soft foods. Greek yogurt is good...Cottage cheese...anything high protein, low fat , low carb. Just listen to your stomach. It will let you know when it's full and if something isn't agreeing with you. Check into the other forums that talk about diet. They'll have some great ideas.

Pastas, bread, pizza, steaks, sweet stuff
GreenTealael replied to Ana-Maria's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I went to Italy 4 months post op too, twins! I had a lot of coffee, salads, nuts, cheese, yogurt, fruit with some pizza, gelato and pastries thrown in (surgeon said I could although I assumed I couldn’t) because… it was Italy. Pharmacies did have ready made and powder protein for shakes. I shopped at local markets a few times and made a meal of my own at a cooking class. I was limited by capacity so that was nice. I did try to be balanced but still have fun. Surprisingly food was not the fun I ultimately had. Good Luck and have fun ❤️ -
getting tired of this stuff need new ideas puree stage
Djmohr replied to TheNewME71's topic in Purée (stage 2)
I lived on cottage cheese, Protein shakes, mashed carrots, Greek yogurt and creamed Soup during the puréed stage. I just gagged on puréed meats and eggs. I will say that once I hit the soft food stage, chicken breast and fish were my two best friends. Here are some things that went very well for me: Chicken breast with fat free gravy Chicken breast with marinara, mushrooms and green pepper Chicken breast with healthy request cream of mushroom soup Chicken breast shredded with taco seasoning Salmon Orange roughy with lemon butter sauce I always made double vegetables and stopped making all starches. This is what I cooked a and my family ate it too. I maybe made mashed potatoes once a week for my family and a sweet potatoe for me. Cauliflower was the vegetable that I used to replace potatoes or rice. I used the 2/1 method for ensuring a balanced meal. 2 bites of protein for every 1 bite of vegetables (healthy carbs). I did not really eat any bad carbs until I was probably 8 months post op and then only very occasionally. When I say bad carbs I am talking about crackers, a bite of dessert, that sort of thing. I cannot eat much so what I do eat I make sure that I get my protein in. For a snack I will usually have beef jerkey, nuts, Apple with Peanut Butter. If I want something sweet and icy, I will have some dole, dark chocolate covered bananas or strawberries. They come 4 slices in each pack, the strawberries are 60 calories with 6 grams of carb, the bananas are 100 calories with 12 grams of carbs. They take care of my need for something icy and sweet. I have also found that simply having a cup of skim milk also curbs my appetite when I am between meals. -
Favorite unflavored protein?
blashlee replied to hopefulmom76's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Correct. I usually put mine in my coffee or tea, or yogurt/cottage cheese. You can also add it to hot food and liquid but it needs to be no hotter than 140F degrees. You can see it, but in my opinion, you can't taste it. I tried other "unflavored" Proteins and it gave my drinks a vitamin/medicine after taste that I couldn't stand. -
Post Op Lactose Intolerance...why?
careya123 replied to OilSooner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just realized that my post-surgery cramping and nausea is probably caused by lactose intolerance. Pre-surgery I had a tiny bit of intolerance, but now any dairy except mozzarella, hard cheeses, and yogurt causes terrible cramping. *sigh* I love dairy. I hope it goes away soon. -
10 weeks out from surgery- struggling to find what works
MelbaT posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hello all, I'm 10 weeks out from RNY and overall doing pretty good. My problem is I can't plan my food menu because one day I'll like a food, like eggs, and the next day it repulses me. Can't stand the smell of it. I'm like this with almost everything I'm eating. I can NOT do shakes ever again. I tried again about a month ago and gagged and threw it out along with the damn shaker bottle. Same with soups and broths. Can't even look at them. ONe day I'll do good with chicken and the next it sickens me. I'm often hungry, but eating makes me feel like crap. I enjoy nothing. I eat slow and don't eat until I am too full, so it's not like I'm overeating and getting sick from a food and then not wanting to eat it again. It makes me sad. Frustrating as hell. I'm hungry now, but nothing sounds good, looks good or tastes good. I often feel crappy after eating. Nauseated. Again, not eating until I'm too full, so it doesn't make sense to me. My dietician wants me to get in more protein but I can't figure out how. There is a part of me that wishes I never would've had the surgery because I'm so sick of feeling like crap. I have low/no energy. I'm taking all my vitamins and supplements. Anyone else have this problem? Will it get better over time? I have no idea what I'll take to work for lunch tomorrow. The chicken I made yesterday is grossing me out now. UGH!! Advice? I'm 34 pounds down now. I'm stalled but feel like it's because I'm not eating enough. I cannot do yogurt or much cheese as I have a hard time with milk products as well. Ack! One more thing I'll add is that I found I can't tolerate sugar free things either. I don't know if it's the xylitol, artificial sweeteners or what. Not eating sugary things either. -
Cooking Small Portions - Freezing?
lsereno replied to CowgirlJane's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
I use baggies and ice cube trays to freeze small portions. Portion your meats to the serving size for you and anyone else who is sharing the meal. For example, I now pack my ground beef into 12 oz. packages. My husband has a 6 oz burger and I have two 3 oz burgers (raw weight). For chili, I freeze in 2 cup portions. Hubby has 1 cup, I have 2 1.2 cup portions. Same for Beans. You will need even smaller portions at first! For Protein post op I like: Tuna moistened with low fat mayo and honey mustard Greek Yogurt, sweetened with Splenda or made into a shake (add a splash of orange juice, 3 Tablespoons splenda, `1/2 cup Water, and a couple of frozen strawberries) Anderson Split Pea Soup Low fat lunch meat Low fat String cheese Low fat chili Soy Milk (8th Continent is 80 calories for 8 grams of protein) For other foods: For veggies, I buy frozen mixed veggies ( can just pour out a little for dinner) or just a dab of something fresh from the salad bar. Another option is a few pieces of broccoli, a single zucchini, or a handful of fresh spinach. For fruit, I buy an apple and eat 1/4 at a time. I just wrap the rest up. It turns a little brown, but I slice that part off. I also eat 1/3 of banana at a time. I just slice it in the peel so the rest stays good. I also like frozen strawberries in the yogurt smoothie I drink for Breakfast. I didn't really add starches back till I was further out. Now I have 1/2 piece of toast with breakfast (save the other half for the next day), a few crackers, a small red potato, or a little of whatever starch my hubby wants with dinner. -
Hi! I'm 15 days post op and after receiving and starting reading the BIG book I think I've pushed my diet too fast. We received paper work on post op from our dr. But it was conflicting. When I left the hospital and went to the grocery store, my guide was like most people buy yogurt water and Gatorade. Soooo I've had yogurt sense day 3 and other soft daries as well as soft mushy veggies and two days ago I introduced mashed potatoes. I've had absolutely no issue. How bad have I messed up?
