Hit the Scale for first Post Op Weight

Had Post Op appt with my Surgeon yesterday, weight was 318.0 he was very pleased with my progress, Going into Phase III Puree, in a few days. food intake, has been Un sweet applesauce, Snack Pack sugar free pudding, Premier Protein 120g per day, 70oz Water, and lots of walking!
  2. We should meet up sometime for a protein lunch.
  3. I had my gastric sleeve surgery on 9/4. I lost 6 lbs. the first 6 days post op then stayed the same for about 6 days. I was bumming out somewhat, and someone on here said do your measurements. I was really glad I did them before surgery. I took my measurements yesterday and lost a total of almost 17 inches!! I could not believe it. And I lost 2 more lbs as well. I read that because of consuming so much protein, fat is turning into muscle which weighs about the same as fat but is smaller, hence losing inches and not weight. Than eventually the fat starts burning off. This made me very happy!! So, anyone who is not losing much in the beginning, I highly recommend measuring :)And I did lose 9 lbs. on the preop diet;so down a total of 17 lbs. and 17 inches. Yay!!!!

HI :) I am Tonya, 6 days post op...

Hey there! I am 5 days post op and I am not sure if I am getting all my Water, and this Protein is difficult. But it is a process, so we take it day by day. The gas is bad, but we walk! I think I am drinking too fast, but I am working on it. Everyone keep your head up and your liquids down! XXOO!
  5. I'm reaching my 70 g protein a day. But I'm falling short on calories. But I'm also still in the mushy stage now.
  6. I didn't think it was possible but I actually found a Protein shake mix that isn't expensive, doesn't taste like shit, and has a lot of protein!! I made it in a 12oz Blender Bottle (bought at the Vitamin shoppe but you can get it anywhere) and I mixed the chocolate flavor with only 1/2 a table spoon of Peanut Butter and 6 oz of milk and the rest with Water. I shit you not it actually sort of tastes like a Reese's . I'm so happy! I got the protein mix from the Vitamin Shoppe for 26 dollars which was the cheapest I could find honestly. It makes about 12 shakes so it comes out to 2 dollars a shake which unfortunately is the cheapest I've found - Kaylee Ann ~ Surgerversary 6/11/2012
  7. Nope. No change. I just keep very controlled in terms of intake... liquid, protein, veggies. I can't trust my head with simple carbs... ONE is both not quite enough and far too much as well...
  8. don't forget about skim milk. i started and ended each day with a cup, 8 grams of protein each cup. I still put the glass glasses in the freezer so the milk will be COLD!!!!!! i never could drink the water I should, the nurse told me at the one yr check up that they prefer water, but drink liquid! I usually only drink water when I have lemon or when we eat out....I drink iced tea and coffee, a lot and the 2 cups of milk. I have been watching the color of the water in the toilet for over 2 yrs now!!

    Calorie guides?

Call instead of email...I agree with the others. I'm now 7 months post, down 88 lbs....My NUT and Dr's rules were very simple for me. No counting calories for me. Its the 64 rule....minimum 64 oz Water and minimum 64 oz Protein. Keep food intake at less than 10 grams of fat and carbs per serving. Other suggestions eat protein first, then veggies, then fruit, then carbs. After the protein, there is only a little room left for anything else though...but I am able to squeeze some veggies in. I eat Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner every day...it's working well for me.
  10. Soft foods could be like cottage cheese, greek yoghurt, you could blend chicken, tuna etc to make it more like a puree (add a bit of greek yoghurt). Any fish lightly steamed or poached could be mashed up until it was soft, scrambled eggs or a poached egg mashed up with a fork. You could make soup with protein sources, and you can try protein shakes to top up your protein requirements.
  11. I had surgery this past Wednesday. I woke up soooo weak and dizzy. When I got back from a doctors appointment I was starving. Since my doctor gave me better pain meds I feel pretty decent. But it seems that I cannot go without food any longer. So, in a 5 hour period I ate: 3 oz Protein drink 12 oz Water (in small sips) 1 cup of the liquid from a can of Progressive Light Beef Stew quarter cup of prepared potato flakes with gravy (probably less) half of a sugar free popsicle I don't feel any worse than I did before I ate all of this. I've been receiving sharp pains since yesterday in my chest (my doc feels this is swelling in my esophogus) and pain in my new stomach even when I just sip water. But I am afraid I may stretch out my new stomach. Is this too much food for my first week? Will I hurt my new tummy? Is anybody else hungry on day 5? Cynthia

    How long is the stall?

Besides walking, Pilates is my only form of exercise now. I'm starting Zumba next week for more cardio input. I am getting in all of my protein & water. I might be a little low on calorie intake - maybe 850.... I tried kickboxing last night - definitely not for me! Lol I applaud all of you that so it. Again, thanks for your input... I'll be patient & hope that scale starts moving soon!
  13. I ususal down the entire bottle of water after about a hour. Can't figure out why but I do. I will after about an hour down another bottle. I don't drink much in the morning but afternoon and evening I down quite a bit. Have you tried Kelloggs Protein water? I found that it kind of gives you a full feeling. My RN I see for fills said that water anytime before you eat is okay because the water should flow through the band and should not hold in the pouch.
  14. i asked this exact question to my nutritionist. First you can't possibly get enough protein on 1/2 cup of food. She told me to try and aim for 80-90 grams. She said the focus is healing and the important part is to eat the pureed food and I can eat 1 cup if after i eat the 1/2 cup I am still hungry. I love love love lemon sole pan fried w/ a pat of butter and a whole lemon - this yoou can eat just mash it up. noodleless lasagna - low fat ricotta, mozzarella and Pasta sauce (its a bit high calorie though another poster told me i can find lower calorie ricotta) tuna but not loving that Soups - lentil, potato leek (blend the lemon sole in the late) egg salad or scrambled eggs greek 0% yogurt I am going to make chili (burger beans and spices then blend it) refried beans w/ melted cheese
  15. I am one week post-op tomorrow. I am lucky enough my mom (banded in 2009) is here until the weekend. She didn't think I should mow one week out so I made her dinner. Grilled handburgers and Mac and cheese. Didnt bother me at all to make it but she felt bad making me cook when I'm on purée food. Then as she ate half her burger and her Mac and cheese, I got full on just 2 tablespoons of my puréed Mac and cheese (mixed with protein powder). Couldn't believe how little it takes to fill me up. As we cleaned up the leftovers we commented about how a few years ago we would have devoured the Mac and cheese. The little things make me happy.
  16. Incidentally, eating gets better with time. It took several months before I felt like I could eat normal. Every once in a while when I eat too fast, I have a problem as well and it causes me not to be able to eat my meal. That being said, it does get better. Promise. For now Water and clear fluids are critical to ensure that you are hydrated. food is secondary. My nut did not even have me start on Protein shakes until week 2.

  18. Hey everyone, I am 5 months post op. The past 2 weeks I have had a constant headache and am constantly feeling tired. I haven't had labs done yet, my doctor is gone til next week. I have always taken my multi but did not know I needed to be on Iron, Calcium and b12 consistently. But have started those and magnesium after reading about it on here, so about a week on those (taking iron every 3 days, someone told me to be careful with iron til my labs are done). Anyone gone through the same feelings, what did it end up being? Any body have any ideas on why I am feeling so crummy? Also just thought I would mention i intake 600-800 calories 60-80g Protein and usually 48 oz Water. I know its less than I should but I am drinking a lot, and struggling to get 64 oz.
  19. Yep I was thinking same as poster above. That does NOT seem like enough calories. Even if you are getting protein first you need enough fuel for your body.

    Almost 1 Year Need Help!

One thing is that our bodies get used to routines & we sometimes need to trick it. Try eating your meals differently. Even if you eat the same thing, if you eat breakfast for dinner or something like that, it can trick your body. Also, if you eat 100 calories or so more one day & then drop back down the next day & keep alternating calories, you'll keep your body guessing. I also agree with tracking your calories so you know that you're getting the right amounts of Protein & limiting your carbs & getting enough Fluid. I use MyFitnessPal & so do many people here. If you make your food journal available for friends to see, you can get advice and ideas from others & from looking at other people's journals too. I would also suggest adding in some weight training to your exercise routine. Cardio is important, but weights are too for overall health & weight loss & muscle strength & definition. You could also try going "back to basics" with Protein drinks for a few days if you're not drinking them anymore or just to trick your body some by having more of them for a few days and less actual food.
  21. @@Fettchick83 It doesn't HAVE to be Crystal Light. I'm only saying what I am doing. There are many other similar options.

    Eating Out???

When eating out, I usually get the "veggie plate"--veggies are usually soft and go down easily. Also, I order fish (but not fried)--almost all restaurants have fish on their menu! Sometimes I find myself even craving it! Great protein source!

    Eating Out???

We eat out a lot too and I LOVE OLIVE GARDEN!! salad is not a problem for me so I have about 1/2 bowl of that. And if I really really want some of the breadstick I will take a little pinch off the end where it is crusty, and I've only done that 1 time out of 3 that we've been there. My FAVORITE menu item at Olive Garden is the Mixed Grill and I get it with all chicken. There is NO Pasta with this dish. It is all grilled chicken on a kabob with bell peppers & onions in the most amazing marinade...keeps it all moist. It comes with steamed veggies like squash & zucchini and roasted potatoes. I put 1/2 in a to go box right off the bat. 1/2 of a full order of all chicken mixed grill has 315 calories, 43 g Protein, 10 g fat and 10 net carbs. Or....if I'm in the mood for spaghetti I get spaghetti and meatballs hold the pasta. I don't even miss the pasta. In a mexican restaurant I'll order a burrito or enchiladas and just eat the filling, not the actual tortilla....or a taco salad, or sometimes fajitas (i don't eat the tortillas). I also always order it with ground beef not shredded beef. Chinese...pork & seeds & an egg roll or sometimes cashew chicken, no rice. Rice, chow mein, and lo mein are not my friends. Tonight I had pizza for the first time since banded...Papa Murphy's thin crust combination with some salad. AWESOME!!! So yes, you will be able to eat out again. During my pre-op diet I left 2 restaurants crying and posted that I thought I'd never feel normal in a restaurant again....so you're not alone!!! But it will get better. The first couple weeks after surgery are the worst but it all gets so much better after that!!

    Banded today!

I am now a week post op. According to my doctors diet plan I am eating very small, 1-2 oz portions, of soft Proteins. I've been doing ground turkey and ground chicken. Soft cheeses. Creamed Soups (homemade with either 1 or 2% milk). eggs. In very small portions. I find that if I eat more than 2-3oz I get a full pain in the middle of my back. I have my first post op appt tomorrow with my surgeon. I weighed myself this morning and I'm down 9lbs. Crazy for just one week. I'm hoping to find out when I'll get my first fill.
