    liquid diet life

I was on a 2 week liquid diet and it was very hard especially the first 3 days. I had to cook meals for my husband and 3 teenage sons too. I stayed busy and I kept telling myself that its very worth all the hunger and cramps and it was the last diet I would ever be on. With each day it did get easier. YOU can do this. Good Luck!
  2. In my experience, it is what you make it. While yes, your stomach is gone forever, the benefits are not forever. Most people many years out have learned to eat around the sleeve so that if they did not learn good food habits while they had restriction, they just return to their old ways. I am three months short of three years out from surgery. I hit goal in April of last year and I have maintained within 3-4 pounds. This morning I woke up a few ounces heavier than usual, so today I get to pay more attention to my food and exercise. Every single day is going to be a fight for the rest of your life, although the sleeve makes it substantially easier. I am never going to get to go on vacation for a week, eat whatever I want like those damn naturally skinny people do, and come back and have gained no weight. I could easily gain 5-8 pounds in a week if I ate sweets, which is my big "gain weight fast" food. Because I like being thin, I don't eat sweets anymore. I wake up and I weigh myself every morning. I missed a day in MyFitnessPal about 2 weeks ago and broke a 230+ day streak, so the last two weeks I haven't been recording my food intake, but really I don't need to anymore. I know what I can and cannot eat. This time three years ago I was 237-ish pounds, I could not manage to lose weight, and I was ashamed and miserable. This morning I weighed 132.8 pounds, I have a closet full of clothes that are 0-4, and I feel like a different person. The sleeve is not something that will make you thin and happy forever, but rather it is something that makes it a lot easier for you to reach and maintain a healthy weight if you are willing to make the sacrifices to do so. Where I live it is 95 degree outside already, I do NOT want to go workout, but in a little bit, I'm going to spray myself with sunscreen, whine as I get into workout clothes, and get my butt outside. I'll log my food today because I gained a bit over the weekend, I'll probably do my ab video, and I won't have any dessert at the Memorial Day party this afternoon. Sure, the sleeve made it easier to get to this size, but at this point the only thing keeping me here are my own daily decisions. So, the sleeve itself is forever, the benefits it provides are great the first year or two and then slowly drop, but you have the potential to use the tool to your advantage to achieve and maintain good health. In the end, it's entirely up to you- not what happens to be left of your stomach.

  4. Hello all!! I have been pursuing these message boards for a couple of weeks now and finally decided to join. Here is a little about me...I recently turned 30 years old and am currently at 370 lbs (I'm 6', and carry my weight pretty well). Luckily I do not have a lot of medical complications due to my weight...yet! I just found out that our company is changing insurance plans next year to Medica, which will cover bariatric surgery. I've already signed up for an information session with Park Nicollet, which is next week. Currently I'm still in debating over the gastric sleeve or the RNY bypass. As I'm just starting, I'm really looking for any information that you think would be helpful. I'm not even sure if I know what questions to ask. Thank you all in advance for your support and help!
  5. I am so excited I can't wait and I am not sure if I am going to be able to sleep tonight. I am going alone, and that is how I want it. Just peace and quiet and recovery! Anyone else going to be in Juarez this week?

    liquid diet life

Today is day 2 of my liquid diet. I feel so emotional. Thank goodness no one tells me I can't do it. As a matter of fact my sister is so supportive she is doing the liquid diet with me. I keep thinking 12 more days till I'm banded. I can say I'm not really starving I just feel so drained. I know if I can't do it for two weeks how can I change my life and eat right. Tomorrow I have a wedding to go to this should be interesting. I'm not sure if I can tackle staying away from food around others. I will also start to cook tomorrow TESTS lol
  9. Okay so I'm about 3 weeks post op, and today I noticed that the right side, under my rib cage is is slightly tender and rock hard. I think it may be my liver, just from an anatomical aspect. I have no incisions nearby, so I know it's not my port or anything like that (that I can feel under the port incision, so I'm really sure about that). Any thoughts? Like I said, mildly sore, but really hard, so I'm not sure if this is normal or if I should worry. Has this happened to anyone else?

    Like riding a bike

I had a stall for a few weeks and then lost 2 3/4 pounds, stall over! I have a gym membership to Planet Fitness and before I moved I was there 3or 4 times a week. Now I don't live close to the gym and have barely gone, my fault sort of. Since I moved my knees have been bothering me so much more than before. Tomorrow I start my Synvisc injections and I pray to god they work so I can put off double knee replacement surgery. In the hopes that all goes well, I bought a really nice recumbent bike to use at home. I rode it tonight for 30 minutes and my knees were clicking the majority of the time and now I'm hurting pretty good. Hopefully this pain is worth the effort. Surgery date: 1/8/15 Weight lost: 60 pounds
  12. I was banded in oct 2010 had RNY jan 2013 pre band I was 348 7 months post RNY 225 and the family says that's enough but I want to see 199 just once in my life and think I can do it the weight loss has slowed down in the past few weeks but I could care less about food and have to make my self eat so I want to keep going but everyone around me say to stop what should I do ???
  13. I haven't cheated yet......but I'm only a week into it. It's easier for me if I stay focused and stick with it. Sushi is not so bad......better than hitting a Golden Corral. Get back on track and ride it out.

    Hopeless

The dietitian in my surgeon's office told me that I should be eating no more than 800 calories per day and that I need to be doing cardio 5 days per week. Have you discussed with your doc what amount of calories and exercise you should be doing?

    Conversion

I had lap-band surgery back on 7/19/2010. My primary reason for the lap-band was to send my diabetes into remission. On the day of my surgery as I waited to be call (got there 4 hours early) I had a horrible tooth ache from a tooth that I found out later needed a root canal. I didn't say anything because I was concern that it would cancel the surgery. The surgery was fine and the only real pain was from my tooth afterwards. It took me awhile to get the root canal done and so I lived with the tooth discomfort for a while. As a result I ate very little and therefore I lost a lot of weight - the doctors thought lap-band, I wondered tooth. When I started the fills food began to get stuck immediately and also pain and discomfort. They stopped the fills thinking I had enough and after all I had lost 20 pounds fairly quickly. I felt good and my AC1 almost return to normal levels. I won't go into the details of port fills and lack of results because we have all been there. Three months ago when I was in the doctors office they mentioned that I was a "lap-band failure" and suggested that one possibility might be the sleeve. My first reaction was I had purposely gone with the least invasive procedure and that to pursue the sleeve was to be going down the rabitt hole permanently. Which frankly scared me. However after thinking about the real consequences of diabetes in the long term and how much I hurt physically with the weight regained I signed up for the conversion from lap-band to sleeve. I have requested that they remove the lap-band and do the sleeve at once which the doctor says that he will try. I am now scheduled for surgery on December 21st. I'm not sure that I have any specific questions. I have concerns about the quality of life after surgery. I am also concerned about the psychological impact of the surgery. Thanks.

Julez I wish you luck! 8days of liquid down...one week from today we will be recovering
  19. Okwell i didnt find anything in my notes about supplements or Vitamins that that firm skin BUT i did have in my notes that Biotin is excellentfor hair and nail growth as well as healthier skin. So you might try that. I have been taking the biotin since about a week prior to surgery; it sure grows nails! I think whoever suggested doing curls was probably right as well as my husband telling me to do squats for my thighs. Good luck everyone.

    Pre op liquids

Ugg I blew my pre op diet hard tonight. I own a pet salon and didn't stop to drink a protein shake while spending hrs fighting a 180lb Newfoundland who just wanted to play and not be groomed. I was shaking and a little delusional when I dropped him off at home and I ate a whopper. And onion rings.. I was groaning and moaning on how tasty it was ( week 3 off bread and sugar) now it's 3 am I'm sick as a Newfoundland ! Wishing I would of just ran into the quickly mart for a protein drink!,, btw also getting sleeved the 29th.

    Pain at port?

Its normal, you only 3 days post op. i couldn't even sit down. I'm two weeks by the way and i absolutely love it. Had rough days but it gets better. Just walk. It will relieve the pain and keep taking your narcotics it helps. Just keep checking you temp and incision site, the biggest one. Good luck, and congrats

    My Story, As I Wait.......

Hi, my name is Jen. I was lucky because my insurance wanted a 5 yr weight history. My dr office didn't have any diet records and neither did I. Thankfully my dr just wrote a letter and that was good enough. I also was on diet pills for many yrs. Too many yrs. Not anymore. I also weigh 243. I am only 5'1 so I feel horrible and am in pain every day. All my life I maintained 125-130 lbs. Then 9 yrs ago I started gaining weight due to depression. Then I had my son, that was 30 lbs there. The icing on the cake was I quit smoking and that put on 40 lbs! My small frame can't handle this weight. I just went for my last visit. Got my 2 week supply of shakes. I start those on the 10 th then surgery on the 25th! I am pretty nervous. I feel like I will die from hunger on the pre op diet but I HAVE to lose the weight. Good luck to you and I hope you find something out soon! Oh, and I called the insurance all the time too, LOL I only had to wait a week though
  25. So, scheduled for Saturday. Yeah! Pre op direct has been ok. Lost 9lbs so far. Why aren't I nervous? Confidence in Doctor, maybe. Been super busy. I'm sure jitters will hit sometime thus week. All I know is I can't wait to be back home Saturday afternoon!.!
