  1. Is the weight loss a surgeon requirement or an insurance requirement. I'm just asking because I'm scheduled for surgery on the 26th and I only have to do a liquid diet for two weeks prior to surgery. I wasn't given a specific amount of weight to lose.
  2. I was required to provide three years worth of weight history for approval from my insurance. I said to the surgeon when I met with him that my biggest concern is that I will be rejected because I have been such a yo yo dieter and depending on the time I weighed in at the doctors my weight could be over 40 BMI or under 40 BMI. I just received my history from my doctors and three years ago I was at a BMI of 37 and two years ago at 39-- under the required 40 BMI that I am at now. I have no co-morbidities. Just a question- have any of you had this be your situation and how did it work with insurance? The surgeon said that he may need to fight with the insurance company, but that what he is looking for in a surgery candidate is someone who has been overweight for an extended period of time and not someone who just happened to gain weight after having a baby etc. Unfortunately, I don't know if insurance will care. Thoughts?

    Psych eval tomorrow!

My psych eval was a face-to-face interview for about 20 minutes. She was mostly concerned about eating disorders and family history of eating disorders and obesity. She asked about who would be supportive and who would discouraging and did I feel emotionally strong enough to stand my ground in the face of resistance. We talked about my willingness to follow my team's direction, and the pre-op and post-op diet process. She asked about why I wanted the surgery and what success or failures I had before deciding on surgery. All in all, it was painless and I was approved with any trouble. I just had a two-year follow-up interview last week, and she mostly was concerned about the same things: compliance and results to date. Again, about 20 minutes.
  4. Again I agree with all above. I am nearly 4 weeks post op. First two weeks were bad, third starting t feel better, now gettin back t drivin, eatin very small meals and swimming. In my mid fifties and I wish I,d done this years ago. My weight issues have affected my self esteem for many years. I wish I could have lost th weight through diet but unfortunately couldn't. I have bin overweight since my mid twenties following pregnancy. So if I was u then I would deff have th op, u will have th rest of your life with no weight issues brill xx
  5. I'm also starting my 2 week diet tomorrow. I'm excited to get started.
  6. Sounds as much legit as sacrificing a virgin by throwing her into a volcano. With stalls you just got to make sure you are absolutely doing the diet correctly and are getting in exercise. If you are eating too many carbs then cut them out. If you are doing everything as you should then remain calm and patient and eventually your stall will break.
  7. Had lapband 7 years ago recovery was a breeze. Having sleeve on 26th and I expect a little more discomfort but bearable. I know of one girl who did Zumba a week after the sleeve..that's promising right? It'll be fine.

Uhc insurance 6 month supervised diet

I have uhc as well. I did all the requirements and was approved. The approval took 2 weeks though! It was the longest 2 weeks ever!!! Hopefully they don't make you wait that long!! I'm 3 months out and it has been the best thing I have ever done!

    Insurance Fear?

From reading through various threads, I had come to think that having insurance cover WLS meant that they would almost for certain require a 3-6 month mandated nutrition monitoring program. Is thinking this incorrect? I am currently in the process of switching over to BCBS of Texas, and while I was planning on being self-pay with the hopes BCBS would cover part of the cost on the finding of a hiatal hernia.... Is it possible that they could cover the entire surgery without requiring a 6 month stall? I've planned the surgery with a timeline in place between school semesters and my final Pre-Op appointment is supposed to be on July 31st where I make my full payment... There have been unforseen holdups with getting the insurance switched over but they for sure have all of my paperwork now and I'm just waiting on receiving my member information so I can give it to the surgeon's office.. I'm concerned that there is just not much time left now -less than a month until the surgery date- but is there at least a chance it could be not only approved in time but not require the extra stuff? The cash price is not cheap, but as far as my health and getting my life back on track, even if insurance could cover the procedure I can't afford to wait another six months beyond what I already have. This isn't about impatience any longer. My mental and physical preparations have been made and I think I'd completely break down beyond a therapist's help if this was put off. Any hope?

    Got my surgery date today!

Congratulations!!! I have heard of that.. a friend of mine her pre op diet is small meals each day. My diet is two week liquids.. Depends on the surgeon. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. Thanks for the replies! I know you are both right about making sure I get my Protein in and just cutting sweets and white flour out completely and limiting other starches. It is so weird to me that it is relatively easy to not eat those things if I just stay completely away from them, but if I have one single bite I end up on a binge. I was using a food tracker before, so I started that up again today. I don't know why it didn't occur to me before to log my Water intake in the food tracker, but I'm doing that too, starting today. The other tough thing for me to cut out is alcohol. I know that it is considered empty calories, but it seems silly to quit drinking now when I don't even have a surgery date yet. Did any one else here decide to wait until you actually have surgery to quit drinking? I mean, I guess I would actually quit a week before, when I'm on the liquid diet. 13. I'm so excited! FINALLY got my date! 11/30! Has anyone had a 1 day pre-op diet? I've heard my program only requires a pre-op diet the day before surgery and not 1 or 2 weeks but I'm not sure - I'll find out at pre-op class. Is that a thing or does that sound too good to be true? TIA! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. Congrats... I am schedule for next Thursday. It seems surreal that I will be one day sleeve next week.

    Surgery Date Sept 18

I see the doc 8 days after surgery. I can have up to 3 weeks off. I will ask for 2 weeks but I honestly think I will be back in less. I've had laparoscopic surgery before. I do, this time, have a desk job. I have the great type of job where I can fully do the liquid diet without any kind of interruption.

  19. Good luck on your surgery. I ate pizza the nigh before as I think I ate so many my stomach was the size of a pizzzzza:( It was my first love. Sick to say but I followed the pre op diet exactly; for three weeks no food only the shakes and bars. I only lost 18+ pounds and was to lose 30! But so many people that knew me from where I came from and here who had surgeries like this kept saying: Just follow the instructions the doc gives you and the book. You will be fine. So, in the beginning getting down the shakes and water were so funny because the amounts were so small but it allowed the stomach to heal and for me to forget about the old ways of eating.. I ate all of it. Tv as a problem when they show people drinking and eating food on every show. So, I felt like I wanted to join in like a subminimal sp? message. So: my eating was from over eating and living with animals. One dog and two cats. Not many humans to talk to. So: I learned alot about myself and remember the days when I was 8-10 and used to run and do the sit ups 200 a day. After the six weeks were up; I went to PT as the wt was too much for me the past two yrs I didn't lose wt. So, I got stronger/ hurt my back/ and flew off the side of the mower putting me back a month on real exercise at the Y. I may go today as my first day but do isometrics on the bed and they work. I'd try to get pt afterwards if your not an exerciser and are weak in your strength and it's good to strengthen our backs. I am doing great and went from 272 at fasting/ to 265 operation date April 11th, after that each month went to the doc office to get weighed on the 11th or around there and I am now 185 lbs or less. I go to him tomorrow and can't wait. I have 50more pounds to remoe but I feel better already; walk faster, and can do more or even feel like doing more. There are times I feel like eating pasta but only a little works/ and chew it thoroughly. I don't feel great aferwards if it's in soup so it's a waste of room something else could be in the stomach that's a protien not a carb. So, I am very careful to not eat sugar, I do have to get my water intake up as I am low still 24 to 48 oz sporatically and need to be at 64 fl oz. but I am still using the shake am's to give me 32protiens and try to eat protien lunch and dinner to make up for the rest. I got the vitimans ordered prior to surgery so I'd have all I needed at home to prepare the shakes ahead of time in a baggie and just add the amt of almond or coconut milk, frozen fruit as ice cubes and use walnuts with no salt for snacks which is more protien. At first it's good to just have the jellows, puddings, which I hate anyways, but it takes our mind set and puts it else where so we can know: it's what we need to heal our new stomach. And as we move on to the broths and peanut butter in the shakes etc. we drink a little slower. I use a yogurt senstations? from Food lion which has plain/5grams of fat. Half in one shake also helps us to get in what we need. It takes a while to get used to it but I loved not having all those dishes in the sink... I found making food to give away once in a while is satisfying to me as I can make what I want and it looks too heavy or reminds me of the past and I dont' have a desire for it. I can try a little and there is this feeling you get and you know; best to not try it at this time, down the road; more is accepted and tollerated but until a yr. I am doing the best I can to do what I am supposed to do staying away from salts and sugars. Fake sweetners etc. except for crystal lite... water used to go down so easy now I have to sweeten it up. I went into this as I'm brought to it; remove the part that has not worked well for me... and Healing will take place. Hope this gives you Hope and know: IF you eat when your supposed to and follow directions, things will fall into place as each phase of the program moves forward quickly and you can try new things. Carole
  20. I'm on the 2 week pre-surgery diet. I feel like I am STARVING!!!! My patients keep telling me I need to eat, because they are hearing my stomach grumble. I'm dedicated so I won't sway from the right thing, but my goodness I think my insides are eating each other.
  21. Friend's I need advise I am scheduled tomorrow morning for surgery VSG and ever since I started all clear diet yesterday morning I have had major bathroom problems. This morning it seems to be just achy stomach from yesterday and gasy. I did try a isotech 42 (Vitamin shoppe Protein drink) yesterday and it kept upsetting my stomach so I stopped that. Is this normal???? Please advise I'm nervous now that everything is a go and my husband is off for the week I will have to cancel. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App
  22. Doo iiitt! From a former smoker (Quit Day, May Day, 1994) it'll be the best thing you can do for yourself! Yes, it's hard. D*mned hard! I won't lie. It SUCKS. But here's the thing... The first three or four days are the toughest. That is your "nicotine detox" and once you are past that, the rest is behavior modification, learning to live your new normal and just shaking off the after effects and letting your body heal. That all takes time. You will have some unpleasant weeks. You will have cravings, but you can lump them in with dealing with your food cravings and battle them together. You will be b*tchy, again, be b*tchy for both, at the same time. Two for one. You will have the physical stuff to deal with, the coughing out the gunk (super yukky, but once it's over, you will feel soooo much better, trust me) and so on but when that resolves, suddenly, you will discover the wonder of, OMG! I can breathe! I can smell things! I can taste things! Its kind of amazing. Totally worth it. When I quit, One thing I did to help me get through my rough patch, to keep myself busy and to give me incentive not to "dirty up" my surroundings was to do a total detail of my home. I washed all of the clothes, bedding, curtains, towels... Everything. Fresh and clean. Loads and loads. I scrubbed down my walls until they were clean and fresh. (I probably could have painted, but scrubbing was cheaper!) I cleaned the broadloom and the ceilings. Washed my windows. I aired out my home and erased all traces of my former habit from my life. I had my husband have our car thoroughly detailed so that it was fresh and clean, too. Once I decided to stop smoking, I decided that I was a non smoker and that was it. In the early days, If I got a craving, I reminded myself that I wasn't craving cigarettes because I am a non smoker. That doing that would kill me. That it is disgusting and I don't do that. I am now one of those completely obnoxious non smokers. I quit a long time ago and I have never slipped, and I am damned proud of that. Through some of my most stressful times. Darkest, most sorrow filled days, I have never, once been tempted to pick it back up. And so glad, as there is enough in life that can kill us, I am determined not to add one more thing to the pile! LOL Look, I'm not trying to brag or lecture, here. I'm just trying to share what I've been through, what worked for me and how I succeeded in quitting a habit that I honestly thought, for a while was going to haunt me for my entire life. You can quit smoking, you need to want it. Just like you want this band. If you want both, you can do both! You have the strength, the will, the guts to do it! I know you do. It isn't easy but the rewards are so gold.

  25. Hello everyone, I have recently started my 6 month weight management to qualify for weight loss surgery, but I have been a bit discouraged. I have been turned down by three surgeons because of a previous pancreatic surgery in 2007. I guess my question is if someone out there has gone through something similar and can share there journey and experiences with me. Thanks in advance, Gaby
