Hello everyone! My surgery date is 10/8 - from the band to the bypass. I am extremely nervous for the procedure and scared of this to not working. I am vegan so the food options also worry me and not getting enough of everything I need. Good luck to all of you and I would like to hear more of your stories post surgery.

One week post-op — feeling hunger
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to imhenryxvi's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m almost 2yrs out from my VSG and a little over 13 months out from a VSG to RNY (gerd) revision and the hunger pangs do get better after being on more solid foods. With VSG it doesn’t take away all the receptors for ghrelin because they’re all over the stomach but does remove most of them as the stomach is greatly reduced in size. Staying hydrated really helps as does trying to keep yourself distracted. I also found saving a meal or snack for about 30 minutes before bed really helped me stay asleep longer so I wasn’t waking up hungry. -
Hello!! I am 3 months post gastric bypass surgery and I’ve lost 35lbs. I am so disappointed!!! Clearly I’m a very slow loser and to see the scale fluctuate it’s crazy! I feel like my surgery was a failure

Looking for suggestions - Need to decide to resleeve or bypass
SummerDream replied to Tufflaw's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm so interested in what folks have to say about this. I too had the sleeve and my Gerd disappeared but now 3 yrs later and almost all my weight gained back in the past year due to personal loss that caused depression my Gerd is back worse then ever before. So I've been thinking about revision surgery. -
I am curious as well and will be converting from lap band to a gastric bypass. So I am looking for information on anyone who had a revision.

Having my Lap-Band converted to a sleeve. I had to have all the fluid taken out a few years ago due to a hiatal hernia. Anyone else have the revision? How different is it afterward?

Hey everyone! I'm sure there are many posts on here for revision but I'm in need of some help. I'm 7 years out of VSG surgery and am embarrassed to say I've gained everything back. The only excuse I have is life got in the way. I've been in touch with my surgeon and have been discussing revision surgery. My issue is, I do not have the same insurance (Aetna) now that I did when I had my original surgery. I'm having a hard time finding an insurance that will cover a revision. My current employers' plan does not even remotely cover anything bariatric wise so I'm hoping you fine people can give me some info of where I can turn. I thought I found a decent multiplan but I've since been told they do not cover bariatric surgery either. Thank you all for your time.

I’m hoping I’m not alone with this, or someone has some kind of advice. I had a gastric bypass and I’m now up to the puréed stage of the diet, but I’m really struggling. The food itself causes no issues, it’s the thought of the food that I can’t handle. Every time I think of puréed food, what I can eat, that I need to eat, anything to do with it, I feel so nauseous. I never had this issue with the liquid stage, it’s just the puréed stage, and because of the nausea I’m not eating enough. Has anybody else experienced this? If so what did you do? Is it just a case of forcing food down when I can and getting through this stage? I know it’s a bad idea to rush to the soft food stage but at this point I’m considering it because the nausea is driving me insane and I don’t want to end up ill. Any help would be seriously appreciated!

Looking for suggestions - Need to decide to resleeve or bypass
Lynnlovesthebeach replied to Tufflaw's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I wasn't a sleeve but my insurance only pays for one surgery so I felt I had to make the best decision the first time. I knew there would be no revisions. I finally decided since already had severe GERD the RNY gastric bypass was the right surgery for me. My doctor asked about a DS and I decided I didn't want that. I've never regretted my decision. -
Looking for suggestions - Need to decide to resleeve or bypass

I wasn't a revision, but I chose bypass from the start because I had GERD pre-op. I'm still happy with my decision and i'd make the same choice if I had to make it today. As you said, bypass usually (not always, but usually) greatly improves if not outright cures GERD. Sleeve has about 30% risk of making it worse. I didn't want to take the risk. -
I am scheduled for bypass on November 17 I am both excited and nervous. I wish I was having it tomorrow

Hello, This is my first time writing anything on here so I hope I do it right! So I had my mini gastric bypass on the 18th of August 2021 and since then I got my period twice and both times it lasted 8 days! and there is one week break between them and my actual period ended on the 12th. so that's 22 days of bleeding in one month and a half. I know these things can happen post-op but the weird thing is my last period ended on the 15th of September and I just started again 4 days later!! I'm very worried and confused tbh... If anyone knows if this is normal or not please let me know or if you have any suggestions on what might help.

Looking for suggestions - Need to decide to resleeve or bypass

I had my original sleeve done in 2016, went from 290 pre-surgery to 195, felt fantastic, no problems at all, they even invited me to have my picture taken for the doctor's advertising! Then I had some personal and professional problems and managed to gain EVERYTHING back. I met with my doctor and he recommended revision, which I am scheduled for some time in November, currently getting my clearances. He said after my endoscopy we'd discuss whether to re-sleeve or convert to bypass. He said if my sleeve was still intact it would have to be a bypass, but if it was dilated I could choose. I had my endoscopy last week and the sleeve is indeed dilated so now I have to make a decision. Another factor is I've had GERD for over 10 years and take esomeprazole daily which helps a lot but I've heard it's not great to take that forever either. I've also heard that bypass usually cures GERD, so that's another consideration. I'd love to hear thoughts from anyone who has either been re-sleeved or converted to bypass so I can have a better understanding of both options before I meet with my doctor again, Thanks! -
Hey Guys, I am getting surgery october 1 and I wanted to ask what are the things you had or wish you had in the hospital or at home right after surgery to make things easier? Thank you in advance.

I'm doing all the jumping through hoops for the insurance company before I can get a sleeve to RNY revision. Looks like tomorrow is the big day for you!!! Congratulations! -
Hi Folks, Anyone know why we should not have alcohol for a year (my program's rule)? I know it's empty calories and it goes to the head really fast, but is there some other reason not to drink?

I recently came across an article that stated that a small percentage of women ‘miss the hormone’ mark in that they only lose 30-40 lbs total. This seems to only affect female sleevers. Has anyone heard of this phenomenon. I have been in a weight stall for almost 6 weeks and I have been researching articles to help explain what is happening when I came across this article. now on top of everything else I am questioning my decision not to have bypass over sleeve. I was terrified of bariatric surgery and thought that the sleeve was less invasive even with the lack of long term data on its effectiveness. To say the least I am totally demoralized at the moment and feel that I made the wrong decision. I am three months out which I know is early still but I am scared that the more I heal and the more food I can eat this will lead to eventual weight regain instead of just a stall

Surgery Revision While at a Normal Weight (135)
GreenTealael replied to orangeisyoung's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was converted from VSG to RNY at my goal weight. I initially loss weight from the surgery because of lack of appetite and stricture. As soon as I could after dilation I went back to my normal calories and eating routine. I bounced back up to my pre revision weight and have maintained close to it for over 2 years. -
Bypass on the 20th, 3 more days, I cant believe the day is almost here! I'm not nervous, I'm just so excited! I'm on day 12 of my liquid protein shake diet, and I'm already down 20! woo hoo!!!

New feeling. Not hungry. Update.
emk101009 replied to Tomo's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am scheduled for a revision in December. I am so encouraged by this. I have always been hungry. And I know my stomach empties fast. I pray that I lose the hungry feeling. Glad you're doing well.
