Surgery date after final insurance dr. Appointment
DanieHall posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Morning! I have BCN insurance and have to go through the 6 months of appointments with my primary doctor before a surgery can be scheduled. Only 5 more weeks til that final date!! How long of a wait did anyone have for the surgery to be scheduled after they completed their insurance requirements? Do I have a chance in hell of it happening relatively soon or will I likely have to wait several months for a date? Just curious how this works. Thanks for your answers!! -
Anxious about Covid
NovaLuna replied to ANewJourneyAwaits's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I had my surgery pre-Covid, but I live in a house where the three other people I lived with all caught Covid and I had to hole myself up in my room so I didn't catch it. I didn't catch it, but one of the people I lived with died from it (she was 86 and had COPD though). My sister had a C-Section in October though and was in the hospital for two days and then spend two weeks in and out of the hospital NICU and neither she, her son, nor husband caught it so my advice is to try and remain positive. I'm sure you'll be fine as the doctors and nurses are doing their absolute best to stop the spread and they are being tested frequently (my mom is a nurse and so is my aunt). My advice is to take probiotics if you're not, it helps boost your immune system. -
I am so ready to be in Onederland! I've been waiting to be under 200 pounds for a lifetime it seems. Actually, I haven't been under 200 for 17 years and that was when I was going to Weight Watchers and had lost 50 pounds which took me a full year to do so and I made it to 194 then had some things in my life happen and gained it all back plus 20 pounds. Then I did this a few more times. I lost 70 only to gain back 90! I pray this is my last attempt to do this and I really believe it is. So far I've lost 88 pounds in 6 1/2 months but my weight loss has slowed down so much. I guess I really expected this to happen. I mean really?? How else could I lose this amount of weight in this amount of time?? NO way except by this wonderful tool I've been given by the grace of God. I mean that! He has blessed me with this gift and I never want to go back. I've come too far and been through to much. I'm 6 pounds away from ONEDERLAND! I will be so happy and feel so blessed when the scale reads 199!!! I know it is going to take awhile for the 6 pounds to come off but I've been doing everything I should except exercising like I should. I started a new job full-time and I'm not use to that. I've been laid off since February and there again God blessed me with this job. I started last week. The only thing is I sit at a desk all day and my upper back is in excruciating pain. I don't have a clue what is causing this!! I'm thinking I've lost muscle mass?? Does anyone know anything about this?

Ok, so this is still posing issues for me and i still need to know if anyone has a solution to this because it sounds like I should not just stop taking this medication. I should have explained originally that I am not taking this meds for blood pressure but a heart arrhythmia/palpitations that are pretty bad if I don’t take it. These won’t kill me but it wakes me up at night and sends me into a fight or flight response that is no good and keeps me from sleeping. I have asked the cardiologist and pharmacist and there just seems to be so much confusion about my options. I am finding it hard to believe I am the only bariatric patient that is on this drug and had to resolve this prior to surgery. Seems strange and hoping this larger pool of people can help me find somebody in my same position who can provide a solution! I have 3 weeks to figure this out but if I need to switch meds I sort of wanted to do that next week to give me time to adjust.

This is great info! I am happy to hear someone got this same run around too . It just seems like no one has asked this before and it is causing confusion for my doc and pharmacist. I plan to reach out again this week to try and get a final answer on this. Thank you!

Watching grass grow

All of the above is great advice. I also made a list of things I wanted to do, a kind of bucket list of things after weightloss, that were not possible/ fun at my highest weight. Even only 8 weeks out, I have already managed some and it is very motivating. I collected recipes that I knew would be bariatric friendly, too. I made a binder for them so they would be ready to go when I was. My family has since implemented a "new recipe" night every Saturday where we cook and test one out together. (Makes a great replacement for eating out.) Check out the Food Before and After thread link below for lots of pics of yummy healthy food people eat post op for some great inspiration. Food before/after Hang in there, you can make this time count for sure! -
I cant sleep! Im excited!!! Earlier today my doctor sent over my post op medications to my pharmacy and I picked them up. I cant believe it ! This is real! Getting my post op meds today really made me excited. Wow I am really going through with this.... I am ready 4 this. iamready4this

Pre-Op Diet Starts Tomorrow. SO confused and overwhelmed.
arcwls replied to SummerShadow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would have to agree. Get it in writing. I was told 1 palm size portion of protein (or two eggs) with one of the meals, loads of the allowed veggies and 2 Optifast shakes. That’s what I did - strict, VLCD for 2 weeks prior to surgery. I was only hungry some of the time but actually ended up enjoying the structure. Miss it now being 3 days Post Op and would give anything for a shake and to not feel like I’ve just entered a pie eating contest and feel so full and bloated I could puke (just from small sips of water). -
Pre-Op Diet Starts Tomorrow. SO confused and overwhelmed.

I would strongly suggest watching YouTube videos on WLS and go through this website with a fine tooth comb, read everything you can, research, ask questions, watch more videos 😇 I have been researching WLS, specifically VSG, over the last few weeks, and have not only learnt a lot but am super confident on what I want to do and what steps I need to get there.... and currently I'm 60 days out from starting my pre-op diet. Not saying I'm a pro and know-it-all, just saying that it sounds like more research/understanding/knowledge on your end will help you clear up your confusion. 🤗 -
Meeting with my surgeon
ShelbyMoore replied to j.sierra05@yahoo.com's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some questions I asked: How many days in the hospital? Will I have a catheter? How many incisions will I have? Will I have a drainage tube? When is the leak test done? Can I get something to relax me when I arrive at the hospital on surgery day (so you aren’t waiting around and getting anxious)? How long is my pre-op liquid diet? What special diet will I be on the weeks prior to surgery? What medications that I’m currently taking do I need to stop prior to surgery? I hope this helps. I wish you the best. -
I'm 7.5lbs down on my pre-op diet - hoping to get to a stone before my surgery this time next week. Excited, nervous, happy and dreading 4 weeks of pureed foods. Still believe I've made a good decision for my health though.

Before Surgery Concerns
J San replied to Janellvp10's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was sent for my endoscopy I had to go for pre op testing at the hospital a week before. They did an EKG, blood work, checked weight, BP and maybe a few other things. I have to do the same next Thursday for WLS surgery. After that is done I have to get a medical clearance from my PCP because of my comorbidities. Maybe because you are healthy you don't need it? Good luck though!!! And tell G-Ma to chill and stop freaking you out. This surgery is safer than crossing the street. -

Gastric sleeve surgery
Detroit_25 replied to Comoras mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Depends on insurance. I started the process the first week of January and I'll be having surgery later this month -
I had my psych eval yesterday and it all went really well. We spent the first half of the appointment just talking and then I did three standardized psych tests, the first two were just anxiety/depression screenings which he saw no concerns with and the third one was 175 true/false questions. FWIW, I feel bad for anyone with severe paranoia that has to take that test, holy moly it was making me paranoid! Anyways, I took it on paper but he said normally they do it via computer and the program wasn't working right but at a glance he said that I am super organized, a perfectionist with perhaps a touch of OCD, and that I was a repressor. When he asked how I handle emotions I told him I walk away and do something else so that last test just confirmed it. He also just wanted to hear my why for wanting surgery and what has or hasn't worked in the past. I was 100% honest with him on everything he asked and it went well. He said he gives very few no's for surgery and gives out either yes with no recommendations or yes with recommendations. He said I would might benefit from therapy in the future to help with leaning on others and letting them see emotion but it could also just be who I am and that's ok too. He said that because I'm a paramedic and in the health care field that repression might be completely normal and not detrimental to me psychologically but some therapy might be beneficial to help me share other emotions. So it sounds like I'm getting the green light from his side and I might consider therapy this summer when my schedule frees up a bit. One thing he said about my perfectionism and organization its that it helps to make the surgery successful long term so he said that's a big positive. So just be 100% honest if you're nervous about it. There are ways to still get approved. Just thought I'd share my story

I get that feeling too and it can be overwhelming. I try to just take it minute by minute instead of trying to take it all in at once and worry I also try to tell myself that I know it will be better soon. What has me so bothered today I probably will not even remember next week. I know all of this is easier said than done lol it just seems that without the proper mindset it is so easy to get overwhelmed. I hope things start looking up for you:)

When did you all start eating fruit by itself? I'm going on my 7th week and I'm currently on solid foods. My doctor recommends eating at least 1 fruit of day with Protein. I've been adding a half banana to my protein smoothie in the mornings but wondering when I should start branching out and trying other fruit like berries, oranges, peaches, etc? A mandarin orange sounds so good right now!

2 weeks post op pain and burning I am entering week 3 post op. Saw my doctor after one week said all was good and I started feeling better too, felt like I was returning to normal. Today I went to get out of bed and has a sharp pain and burning sensation on my Left side near where your stomach is, near my belly button. Sharp/ burning lasts a minute and then is extremely sore like a bruise. I called my doctor and I do not see them for another two weeks, he said I must have pulled my internal stitch but it just happened again this evening. I have been able to drink and eat my puréed foods with no issues. I am not running a fever either. I am just curious did this happen to anyone else, same location and feeling?

Hello all! My surgery was 6/27, and I was put on solids a week sooner than planned due to severe nausea that pills wouldn't touch. It helped tremendously. I have no pain when eating, only sometimes a slight discomfort once it hits my stomach when I'm full. I only eat eggs, chicken, tuna, some cooked veggies, and only tonight had shrimp. I'm worried that I don't get enough protein in during the day. I can only eat about 4 or 5 bites before being full, anymore makes me past the point. I don't drink water afterwards for an hour at least, and I've been working a lot harder to get water in during the day. Has anyone had this issue or worry a month out? Hey all! I started my liquid diet on Monday and I’m down 9 pounds!! However, ever since “eating healthy” I feel like my body has gone into like a shock which I’m sure is normal. I get headaches every day (even wake up with them) and am not sleeping as long as I used to. I know this could be from lack of caffeine and change of diet. I am trying to avoid taking ibuprofen (motrin) as my surgery is next week (8/6). Any suggestions for headaches?

New to the forum and super anxious!
Chris10 replied to Chris10's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks! I know I just need to take a breather and chill lol! How long we're you in the hospital? When/if I'm approved my doctor wants to schedule me for Sept 24 which is a Tuesday. I already talked to my boss about everything. Because I just started my job 3 weeks ago I won't be able to take much time off at all. Luckily I work in an office and I'm hoping ill be able to be back at work by the next Monday. -
I didn't start protein shakes until 1 week out according to my program. Only clear liquids for the first week. Call your NUT as soon as you can. Look through your paperwork, maybe you have something in there that was overlooked. I know I had to continuously refer to my sheet to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong. Good Luck!!!

Thanks for letting me know your feelings, like you I'm a nurse and have been considering backing out. Although, I know that I really need this surgery. I'm staying positive, right now I'm doing my 6 mth supervised diet but trying not too lose too much weight so far I've lost 10 lbs and gained 3 back. I have a window of 12 lbs or my insurance want pay so trying to lose 2lbs a mth. The Protein shakes have worked very well and not as hungry. Since I've lost 10lbs in one week with the Protein shakes, I'm thinking I will do really well with the lapband. Good luck to you on your weight loss journey. Thanks again. -
I'm going to the Colorado river this weekend myself and my dr said your free and clear at 4 weeks!!!
