    Side effects question

I had this too big time. I tried a bit of liquid yogurt and it cleared right up. I was about a day or 1 1/2 days early starting full liquids. Always good to check with your own doc.
  2. Thanks, Not realy I don't get hungry I just don't want to loose my hair due to lack of protein. I drink carrot and yogurt juice, I mainly drink instead of eating. I am getting disappointed, and questioning my decision about the surgery. I have paid so much to get my desire weight and you are probably right may be I don't have too much to loose. I do not excersice due to my back problem. Thanks again
  3. Sounds delicious! I make a version of this with Greek yogurt and either spicy southwestern mustard or hot wing sauce and put in on chicken. Tastes delicious and makes it easier to eat.

    3 Days Post Op.....

I am 8 days out. No nausea, not much pain, no BM yet, first visit today. 6 lbs in 1 week - a bit disappointing, but 12 if I count preop. I'm not feeling much restriction at all when I drink. I may get a tiny bit of pressure, but that's it. I'm starting to wonder if I still have my stomach in there. I am allowed greek yogurt this week and oatmeal, but only 2 ounces. No problems eating those. Am I crazy? Did anyone else have such a smooth road the first week and after eating the first small amounts? I'm not ungrateful at all, but just beginning to wonder.
  5. I teach fifth grade as well. I have a 20 minute break and I just try to snack during class. I generally will eat some turkey meat and string cheese and a yogurt. During my lunch break I will eat a few crackers and some chicken salad that I make with chicken breast. You will be fine. I am two months out as well but I really didn't have any energy problems. I taught summer school from 7:15 - 1:00 so it was a long day but I did well. I only took off a week.

    Smart Cow

I avoid "ose"es (sugar) unless it is in the veggies or maybe grains, but I did let myself have some frozen yogurt once...George (my sleeve) did not like it.
  7. try boneless skinless chicken thighs, they are a little more fatty than breasts but i can tolerate them pretty well! another favorite is plain greek yogurt, cool whip, some mashed fruit (usually peaches for me) and splenda or honey for a little sweetness. works great for any meal when your feeling tight but still has some great protein! tuna fish find a protien shake that you like. and Protein bars. i like cliff bars Sent from my SM-S820L using the BariatricPal App

    Tight band in the mornings....

My Doc said to add some grated cheese to your scrambled eggs in the morning (remember we're not counting fat) it's the weight of the eggs that are the problem - they need a little help going down and the cheese is just enough to make it easier to stay down...I can also do yogurt with nuts in the am - and chew really well!

    Greek Yogurt ideas PLEASE

The Greek yogurt ideas are great. I am not too imaginative, but I did come up with this. If you live near a Trader Joe's, they have a house brand of Greek yogurt in 2 cup containers. There are two, one with a burgundy and blue design, the other with shades of blue. The blue only design gives you the best bang for your $2.99. It has a whopping 22g protein per cup, and only 6g sugar (naturally occuring milk sugar), I get the plain fat free and divide it into 4 half cup servings (11g protein, 3g sugar). I then throw in some cinnamon and a heaping tablespoon of Smuckers Sugar Free preserves (no added sugar and about 10-20 cals). I buy all different flavors so I have Cinnamon Orange Marmelade, Cinnamon Blueberry, Cinnamon Apricot, etc. You can't buy a commercial fat free yogurt that gives that much protein for that little sugar. I will have to try it with the ranch dressing mix as a dip. Sounds good.
  11. Yes, I went in last thursday for a fill, i was supposed to have 5.5cc,, they always pull it all out to make sure what is there is the amount that should be,, she pulled out 6.0 so she says you willl get another .5 from me bringing you to 6.5 -i was like goood.!! I left there knowing something wasnt right,, all weekend i was able to eat what i wanted - i made very good choice though. ON tuesday I went back to the dr because i had NO restriction.. I saw someone different and she pulled out the fluid again.. 5.5 -- less than what i origionally went in with -- so she added 1cc bringing me to 6.5 - right now i am very very tight,, liquids fill me and the only foods i can eat right now are mashed potatoes, applesauce and yogurt- I am attributing this to the fluid being pulled out and put back in so many times in less than a week -now i have the post fill swelling and tom.. I am really hoping that by the begining of next week i can start adding some normal food in.

    When does hunger return?

that's so crazy how every doctor and every program is a bit different but we all are working towards the same results. I started a blended diet the 2nd weeks out, if i was comfortable, but i wasn't ready yet - and 3rd and now 4th week incorporating yogurt, apple sauce, and protein shakes in. i'm going in for my month checkup to review next steps in meal planning and nutrition. keep up the great work!!

    1st pureed meal post op

Hi I'm on purée foods now had mash and gravy last night looked terrible but was nice also ready brek and low fat thick yogurt going to try sweet potatoe mash and gravy see how that goes.😀
  14. My surgeon was very progressive in introducing foods - immediately, I could have yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, soft foods. When I returned home (I traveled out of area because I was self pay), my local doc was not as progressive and I had to go back to liquids. It was a little weird and at time frustrating. Everyone's post op diet and food introduction is different. I always suggest, however, that no matter what, you always follow YOUR doctor's/nutritionist's plan.
  15. I see that most people have 14 of liquids after surgery, my doctor diet is that after we are discharged we go to phase 3, soft foods lile cottage cheese, protein drinks, tuna w/ mayo, broth, greek yogurt...anyone else's doctor is the same?

    Surgery on Feb. 27

Hi jabs i will be 3 years out on May 15th, my new birthday, wish it was 35 years. as of today I'm 97 lbs lighter. Never had any regrets, not an instant. Nothing I can't eat or drink, except for extremely sweets, i can only have one [/url]chocolate, not half a box. i was pre diabetic, needed a knee replacement but now no problems with my knee and i have a clean bill of health. My favorite thing is being able to cross my legs in addition to wearing flattering clothes. Be sure to get your Protein or you may risk anemia so I have a Protein Drink each day, i can only palate Premier Protein at 160 cal and 30 grams of protein. You can also eat greek yogurt at 12g and you will have a good head start. I don't worry about calories anymore. if i feel like eating anything i go for it but in very small quantities, kids meals are too much but the toys are cool. I give them to the food bank. I love Soups but still hates salads. by the way if you want to fell full for free, have a free meal by eating samples at costco I'm usually full before the lasts samples. Remember, liquids first but you will learn. Sometime my eyes are bigger than my stomach but my stomach always wins. I usually share with whoever i am eating with or order an appetizer which is always too much so i eat lots of leftover. If you like to drink alcohol, be careful you get drunk real fast on very little and sober up kind of fast. I no longer like wine just light beer but very occasionally now as i was developing a habit. I now have tea in the evening as i realized i was just thirsty, i don't like Water. My only comp;location is eosophagal cramps that resemble a heart attack its noes, let common, the first time it happened i was at a hotel and had to call the emergency. The EMT tested me gave may an EKG and my heart was fine, i took a couple of Tums and it went away. I was lucky to have a dr who recognized the condition right away soI now i take an omapremazole every day, i tried nexium but it doesn't work for me. Don't expect to look great naked, actually pretty creepy but i don't want plastic surgery at my age and except for my hubby, nobody else sees me that way. I have a wonderful husband who want to see me healthy and happy. i do look great in jeans. congratulation on your decision to live longer

    STUCK

Are you sleeve or bypass? I may be wrong here- but shouldn't we be keeping to 1/2 cup of food per meal? I'm bypass, maybe that is why? I'm 6 weeks out as well and can't eat more than that physically. I'm so scared of stretching that little pouch! Lol I think it depends. I read by 3 months the RNY pouch usually expands to closer to a cup in size, and I bet that varies. Also I find the liquid foods may pass faster onto my duodenum, but besides shakes, I never measure the volume of my meals. Semi solid things like yogurt or puréed refried Beans are never an issue. I once heard you can't physically stretch the bypass pouch although it gets bigger with time, but I don't know what the truth it. Usually they say it is the stoma that widens to much, allowing food to pass faster, but that isn't from overeating. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. OK, I am confused. I understand the process of being banded (surgery) but what I am confused about is the recovery period. I know I am supposed to be eating healthy, which I am desperately trying to do, but here is the confusion part..why am I told to eat things like yogurt, mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, oatmeal, puddings, applesauce??? all these things are packed with either sugar or carbohydrates. Is this just a recovery phase while healing and waiting for the fills to start? And after having watched the DVD which was provided to me yesterday, which outlines the 8 rules...am I supposed to do this from the very beginning or after I start fills? What do you do? I truly want this to work and I know the band is just a tool, but I need to know how to make it work to my benefit. Any suggestions? Z
  19. i am wanting to get some feedback the level of restriction people have. 1. when you drink first thing in the am is it more like: c. i can drink room temp. cold beverages (about 20 oz. in a hour or less) But, only after about an hour after waking 2. for breakfast i eat: PLEASE also list the time of breakfast! a. protien shake-sometimes, if I am in a hurry, I wouldn't call it a Protein shake technically, it is instant breakfast b. mushies- oatmeal, cream of wheat, scram eggs, yogurt keeps pouch full for hours I wouldn't say for hours. I can't eat eggs, they won't go down at any hour no matter how they are cooked. Oatmeal is what I usually eat 3. do you ever have acid reflux, indigestion? d. occasionally 1-2 times a month 4. how much can you eat of the following (round-a-bout): protien shake: no restriction unless it is very thick *chicken-I can only eat saucy, as in Soups or casserole. If I eat plain I can eat one bite and that is it. *salad:Can eat until it goes out of style. I feel no restriction when eating salad-unless there are eggs, bacon or non veggies in it *sandwich-can't eat sandwich bread at all, can eat about 3 bites if it is toasted, can eat a small piece of french bread. If I eat bread before food everything will get stuck *chicken, soft veggie, carb or another veggie (i know this varies with the order you eat in BUT please go buy how you typically eat?): I avoid chicken, it is just too hard to fool with. As far as meat, I am real limited. Grouper, Salmon, shrimp (basically anything seafood) goes down fine-Salmon, sometimes not, if it is overcooked. Ribeye steak--minus the fat, goes down okay. Veggies, go down good for me for the most part. With the exception of mushy veggies--peas, corn potatoes. Carbs, it depends on what it is. It is a trial/error 5. are you happy with your restriction? b. no but i have good restriction 6. when you pb why is it: choose all that apply a. because i ate to fast b. because i tried to eat solids c. because i wasnt paying attention to eating d. no reason I could come up with lol 7. how often do you pb? d. once a week 8. how much liquids do you get in in a day? b. i struggle to get in 64 oz. (because i'm lazy) Well actually with the time you have to wait between meals it can be a struggle 9. do you eat in the correct order (protien first, veggies, then carb): d. most of the time i eat in the correct order (70%) but its a struggle 10. do you drink with meals: b. nope __________________

What Kind Schedule Did You Keep?

I'm almost 7 weeks out. I'm on pureeds & can start doing some "soft" meats & veggies & such now. My doctor only wants me to do 3 meals & Water or Protein drinks between meals. Therefore, my schedule the last few weeks has been something like this..... 6:30 AM - 1/4 cup Egg Beaters w/ a little shredded cheese - usually takes me 30 minutes to eat it. Between Breakfast & lunch - I fill a water bottle with a Protein Drink & dilute it with more water to make it last longer & have my Protein & fluids together. It usually takes me a couple hours to drink it. 11:30 AM - 1/4 cup of ricotta cheese with 1/4 cup of marinara sauce & a tablespoon of parmesan - heated in the microwave for 1 minute - usually takes 30 minutes to eat. Between lunch & dinner - I fill a water bottle with a protein drink & dilute it with more water to make it last longer & have my protein & fluids together. It usually takes me a couple hours to drink it. - sometimes I just do a water bottle with crystal light instead of a protein drink in it. Just kinda depends on my mood and my protein intake for the day. 5:00 PM - 1 can of tuna (4 ounces) with 1 tablespoon of mayo - usually takes about 30-45 minutes to eat it. Between dinner & bed (around 9 PM), I usually have part of a water bottle with crystal light. Other things I eat instead sometimes are - refried black Beans, greek yogurt, string cheese. Earlier this week when I had to go to orientation at college & it was full of meetings & not many breaks, I took reduced-sodium beef Jerky and I found some travel cups of tuna that were already drained (but they didn't have mayo in them) & I took them in my backpack. There are also travel packs of tuna with crackers & mayo that are pretty easy to take in a purse or bag places. So far I haven't had to leave home too much because I'm not taking classes this summer & I work from home. I'll have to find some different things for the fall when I'm at school all day - either that or get really used to jerky & tuna! I know some doctors suggest more meals & not using protein drinks & I've seen others use string cheese & such as high-protein "snacks" between meals. I think it might be harder to get in fluids that way since we're not supposed to drink around meals/snacks, but I'm not sure since I don't do it that way. Hope that helps some. I'm not too creative with my foods at this point. Last night, we were out of the house & hadn't had dinner yet & my family stopped at Taco Cabana. I ended up ordering one chicken fajita taco, which is just chicken strips with seasoning in a taco without other toppings. I opened it & dumped the chicken of the tortilla & gave the tortilla to my daughters & I just ate the small chicken strips. Just remember "protein first" as you're progressing your diet. :-)

Entering the Land of Real Restriction

Yep, I'm finally here. That fourth fill on Monday did the trick. By yesterday afternoon, I decided to try some real food. First, I had a yogurt which went down real slow. Then, I tested myself w/a solid dinner of chicken apple sausage, asparagus (slightly overcooked on purpose), and pasta. I took very small portions and cut everything super small. The skin on the sausage was a little irritating, but went down OK. But, having the leftovers today at lunch, I got stuck bad. Still no PB. I had to just tough it out until it passed through. Lesson learned... remove the skin on sausage!!! Its kinda like now is when I really GOT my band. All of the stuff they taught me that I would need to do (small small bites and chew chew chew) was not necessary before and now, all of a sudden, it is. I'm gonna take it easy w/dinner tonight and maybe just have lentil stew or a black bean soup that has been waiting in my pantry for just such an occasion. The really good thing is that I'm still not hungry so I really don't care what I eat. I am a little worried about tomorrow, though. I'm going to a friend's wedding tomorrow night and have no idea what is on the menu or if it will be buffet or served to us. I usually am not a fan of buffets, but I am really really hoping for a buffet this time so I can pick out just a little of the things that I think will work for me. I just really don't want to end up having a stuck episode in public and at a special event like that. My plan is to locate the nearest bathroom ahead of time and cut my food really really really small. Working in my favor are two things. First, all of my friends know I am banded and I am sure she will have sat us all together. So, at least all of my tablemates will know why I am eating such miniscule portions and skipping on meat or dry chicken if that's what is served. They are all very supportive too and won't make me feel weird about it. The other thing is that the bride's own mother is actually banded. So, maybe, just maybe, the menu is actually band friendly. Could I actually be that lucky? :w00t: And then as soon as I survive this wedding, what do I have next? Easter dinner! At least I am hosting so I get to choose the menu. I'm gonna make ham and really creamy delicious scalloped potatoes. Haven't figured out the rest of the meal, but my MIL is bringing baked apples (totally soft and band friendly) and coconut cream pie. Yum! Still gotta figure out some other sides. Really, I think the ham is the only thing that I'm not sure of. I have never baked a ham myself and just hope I can do a good job so it is not dry. And, the good thing is that the only outside guests are my inlaws and they also know I'm banded and are supportive. You know, the thing is that even though everyone knows about my band and is totally supportive. They just haven't seen me ever get stuck before. And, I would hate to have that happen in front of them and then have them think badly about the band. All of us who are banded know its a learning curve. Every time we get a fill, we have to relearn what works for us and what doesn't. But, from an outsider's perspective, they see you get stuck or in pain once and they think... oh, the band is bad, makes you sick all the time. Oh well, I guess I can't start worrying now about what people think.

    Hungry

I was sleeved on June 20th and I 'think' I am hungry all the time! I don't really know what full feels like? Does chest discomfort mean your sleeve is full??? I get those feelings but my stomach is always growling. I am getting a minimum of 60 grams of protein and 50 ounces of water a day. I am still on liquids so I also eat jello, broth, and popsicles. I have even tried pudding and yogurt! I just feel confused because everyone told me they didn't even want to eat the first week!
