Preop birth control restriction
jenbaby75 replied to mrsvw's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would definitely be checking on that. I had ankle surgery 2 years ago, and the surgeon didn't have me stop bc, I developed a blood clot. I had a Nuvaring. I can never use regular bc again. In fact, I ended up pregnant 4 months later. I now have a 19 yr old, 12 yr old, and a 13 month old. (Born Christmas Eve) Bottom line, blood clots suck, big time. -
I woke up feeling very bad about myself
summerset replied to VooLivre2017's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why would you want to go back to a deprivation-diet that will most likely induce bingeing in the near future? It's good and normal that you have that mental block when thinking about deprivation diets. Most likely it won't work so you're right to be afraid of the plan of going back to shakes and "the basics". It's a deprivation diet that will cause reaction-bingeing now that your body is capable of it so you have to be way smarter in your choices. Cutting out too many foods you like won't work in the long run for most of us. Unfortunately many, if not all of us, were fed the mantra "moderation won't work" a bit too often. Back in the days of "protein shakes and basics" we were all newly out of surgery which meant that appetite was reduced in many of us because of having been cut into out intestines and because of general anesthesia. Many foods we couldn't tolerate anyways, let alone big portions of it. But these immediate post-op day are simply gone. The situation has change and you have to take that into consideration when planning dietary changes. Also keep in mind that you were not able to stick to your former post-WLS diet so it makes more sense to try a different approach this time than to repeat what didn't work for you in the first run. -
Typical chick reactions to my plans for VSG
Inactive Profile replied to Teachamy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It has been for me! Iv had " I worked hard to lose 60 lbs and your getting the easy way out" and the best one yet, " we'll now your going to be the purity one, that's not fair" ok so does that mean I'm the ugly one now, I wanted to slap that chick ( mainly bc even at 267 I'm still cutter then her , lol sorry that's mean but she called me the ugly one basically) ...... I think what it is ( at lest for me) is iv become " the fat friend" the one that being around me makes them feel better ab themselves, bc all my friends back home who never knew me big ( iv gained 120 lbs since I moved away) are only happy and excited for me and can't wait to see me back thin, these chicks here are hating on me. -
Diabetics - Sleeve Results? Rny Better?
Scorpion11 replied to bearman99's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm T2 diabetic for 6 yrs, was on orals x2 daily and hbp as well. When I met surgeon I went in wanting the lapband, he suggest the sleeve due to diabetes. My surgery was 11/14/13 weighing 266, today 239, as soon as I starred my pre-op 2 wks liquids, my bs daily were from 80 to 129. Pcp asked me to stop orals for diabetes, 3wks post-op and still off diabetes meds and hbp. I went to see my pcp on Tuesday to find out if I'm still a diabetic but she asked me to wait until 2 more wks for blood lbs and will know by then then. Currently my bs upon waking up have been from 80 to 128, one morning only was 180 idk why. Overall I'm glad my surgeon suggested the sleeve, I have faith my diabetes will be gone with the WL. Do your research and go with what you feel is best for you and your health. We are all unique so what's changed for some, may not be the case for others. Best to discuss with your doctor. Good luck, which ever one you go with, you will still be successful and healthier in the long run. -
I am almost a month out from surgery. I had my last menstrual cycle on December 6th, prior to that November 7th. My cycle comes about every 30 days and the only time I have ever went without having a period was when I was pregnant with my daughter (I'm not pregnant!) and when I was breast feeding her (haven't breast fed her in almost 2 years now). My period is a week late and I'm wondering if this is normal after being sleeved? Has anyone else experienced an absent period due to getting the VSG and when does your period normally return?

I am 11 days post op today and on the full liquid diet for another 4wks. I have had no problem with anything i have tried thus far with the exception of milk. Im on 2oz of full liquid 3 times a day, and Protein drinks as needed. I was thinking wow Im never even hungry the 2oz was filling me up.. in some cases i was hiccuping and burping bc i was full. However .. starting yesterday I am actually starting to be hungry. Like I said im on 2oz 3 times a day only...... I do 2 Protein Drinks (6 oz each) and then popsicles if i want thru out the day. Why am I hungry?? Im feeling like maybe my sleeve is too big or not tight or whatever it is that they do.......

Let me start off by giving my stats. I was 330 lbs day of surgery in April of 2012. I wore a size 30/32 top and wearing a tight sz 26 pants, and my all time high was 350+. Currently I weigh 163.4 lbs wearing a size 9 pants and L- XL top (got a wide back lol) Oh, and I'm 5'6. So here's my thing and please chime in if you're going through the same or have words of wisdom. I'm absolutely without a doubt happy with the weight that I am now, and get loads of compliments and praises for my dramatic change. I'm told to not lose anymore and to stay where I am, but I feel like I'm at a numbers game with the scale. I try to see just how far I can push this tool. How low can I get my weight down to. Testing the waters of this surgery so to speak. I honestly don't know where to stop. I remembering saying "Once I get to a sz 12 I'll quit and be happy with that." Well sz 12 came and went a long time ago and now I'm down to a 9 and still itching for more weight loss. I know I'm okay where I am, but I just want to see how low numbers wise I can go. I've never known a low number a day in my life! As a young child I was chubby and that soon become overweight and that become obese and then morbidly obese. I've never know average or underweight...Not that I'm going for underweight by any means. I guess I just want to test my tool out to the max. At one point I thought I was done losing bc I hadn't lost for 5 months or so and accepted where I was. Then I realized I was snacking too often (not on wrong foods) and when I stopped the lbs started to come off again. And at this point I was content with where I was, but now....... It's a no holds bar kinda thing. I want to get as low as possible and that sometimes scares me. I don't know when I'll be satisfied with myself anymore. When I can truly live as a normal human being without jumping on the scale every morning. It's as though I've traded one obsession for the other. Over indulgence of food being my first and seeing how "low" I can weigh being the second. I don't know how to get a handle on this. So if anyone reading have ways they overcame this mindsight please share. So sorry for the lenght

Why does weight loss slow down after the first few months?
Djmohr replied to bugsy72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@bugsy72 Hi there! Congratulations on getting healthy! I am 17 months post op and just a pound to go to get to my ideal weight. I am down a total of 142lbs. I lost a lot of weight in those first 6 months fairly rapidly and then I slowed to between 5 to 10lbs per month with many stalls along the way. What happens is your body adjusts along the way and the closer you get to goal, the slower the weight loss happens and the harder you have to work to keep it going. I am one of those people that have had to fight for every pound because I am also restricted from excercise and have been since June 2015. It just means you have to be very diligent about what you put in your mouth, of course having a tiny really helps you do that. I have learned that if I stay under 1000 calories a day with 70 grams of Protein and below 70 grams of carbs I will lose. If I am somewhere above 1300 calories I gain. If I hang between 1000 and 1200 I maintain. Maybe when I can be more active I can add more but realistically I have a hard time getting above 1200 calories anyway, not sure if that will change down the road but I am well fed at that 1000 to 1200 range. Not sure if that makes sense but that is how it worked for me. -
Traveling, need some food suggestions
jess9395 replied to mandavander's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I disagree about fast food only being salads. I don't handle lettuce well right now anyhow. I have found a lot of good fast food choices. Wendy's chilli Jack in the box grilled chicken strips Chick fil a grilled chicken nuggets McDonald's grilled chicken wraps (I don't eat the tortilla) Chipotle side of chicken or sofrita Panera bread hidden menu (google it) In and out Protein style burger Mongolian BBQ places (basically chose your own stir fry stuff) Grocery store salad bars are awesome choices bc they have lots of meats, boiled eggs, Beans and such -
Thank you for all your kind words! Yes the kids make it very rewarding and challenging at the same time :-) the could get very creative and hurtful with their names. More often, those students were truly hurting from something themselves and lashing out at me bc they know I care about them. amumes- just think in a few months they won't be able to say those types of things anymore!! Don't let them get to you!

Gas Pains (end when)
Terri Lynn1383837796 replied to I love me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
All I can tell you is to eat the Gas X strips almost non stop...my daughter is an EMT and fed them to me in the hospital. I never had the 1st pain of gas... -
Ah, you posted under the TN forum. That would explain some things. Personally, I only visit the Idaho and Washington threads, since I figure I might find something local to me. So sorry you were freaked out, I can see how that would have been a bit of a shocker. But Blossom is the only bandster I can think of who's died, and she died in an accident when her tractor rolled. I know that many boards have memorial pages or even entire forums dedicated to memorials for members who've passed on. The most we have at LBT is several beloved pets that have passed on. I think the only way to get noticed is to scream and shout. Thanks for shouting Dody. We cannot know what people need unless they tell us. I don't ever expect my husband to be a mind reader, no "if you loved me you would know what was wrong" BS games. Thank you for telling us what you needed and what you need.

I didn’t tell anyone either. Told them I was having my gallbladder out (which was true) and that I needed to change my diet afterward bc there were foods I couldn’t tolerate anymore. Also, that I was seeing a nutritionist (also true) I don’t feel bad about “lying” it’s my business

Pain in ribcage area
RestlessMonkey replied to christiOT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok. You and I are near in age and we were both overweight...there's a tendency in our age group to be, um, less aggressive about health care. We grew up when docs thought being overweight was a character flaw, and many treated women who complained too much as hysterical or something worse. That may give us a tendency to accept that "it's all in your head" or some other bogus BS. If you hurt, YOU HURT. It's not in your head. It's in your side! So if I can empower you to demand the healthcare that you should get as your due, then good. Because you know you hurt and you didn't sign up to be in constant pain. Stick by your guns. -
Hello all. I jus wanted to post on the POST op side bc as of today I'm on the losers bench. So excited. ????

Haha I was wondering what the "call oven powder" was, made me giggle when I saw "collagen powder" instead, mainly bc my phone does that too. Anyways, I went in for my 1 week check up on Tuesday and asked that too, she said one thing that can help is lifting weights.

Hi SharonK..I too was denied twice i have BCBS Illinois and after researching on my own and constantly calling EVERYDAY to BCBS I was approved with a BMI of 35...they also told me that there wasn't enough paperwork submitted so i called my dr and told them to resubmitt. then they denied me for only having 1 comorbitity. Then i called my pcp to schedule me for a sleep study and found out that i had sleep apnea, so dr submitted that paperwork and i was approved. But i called BC every single day sometimes twice a day until they got tired of hearing from me and this nice lady named Amanda said "ma'am let me explain the process to you. First your paperwork is reviewed by our nurse and she either approves/denies it then it goes to medical review for the dr. The nurse already reviewed yours and she approved it and normally the dr goes along with what the nurse says." I then got really excited!!! She said but it can take 7 days for the dr to review it so i will put a note for them to call you once they reach a final decision." (In other words, don't call us anymore, we'll call you) lol..So i hung up and later that day i called to see if they reviewed it yet and nothing..But the very next day I got the call telling me i was APPROVED......moral to this story is.....don't give up the fight, and don't wait for dr's office,or anyone to help you..Take matters into your own hands and run with it... You need not wait for the letter to find out why you were denied, you need to call them and ask them why so that you can start working on getting what they need. It took 2 weeks for me to receive my 1st denial letter and i had already submitted my other paperwork by then...Good luck and let me know if you need some assistance.... So sorry for this long post...

PCOS raggedyann is Poly-cystic Ovarian Syndrome. It makes the battle of the bulge near impossible to win for some. It is named from the hundreds of mini cysts that develop on your ovaries, but messes with your hormone balances and can mess with your thyroid in some cases. As for the BC, I was on a progesterone only med (not BC) prior to surgery to help regulate me and protect me. One thing that PCOS can cause is endometrial (sp?) cancer. After my surgery because I couldn't get preggers no matter what for 18 months, my dr put me on BC. I didn't gain any weight from that at all but it was progesterone based. I lost 96 pounds so far and I've been stable for the last 6 months but I'm 20 months out and apparently I'll start dropping again. My gyno was pleased that I chose to have the surgery and says that I shouldn't have any problems when I am pregnant and is looking into a good chew-able prenatal for me.

fill after almost 2 years
bella5425 replied to sewillia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it will be 2 years for me on april 22nd this year and i have fills every 1-3 months. have lost about 170 pounds. i measure everything, am a vegetarian and do my best but damn my sweet tooth. sometimes it little squares of chocolate w/ nuts so i pair it w/ a protein and sometimes i go all out and eat donuts or pie or whatever. some days i hate myself. i am getting to the point i don't want to go in anymore bc i am embarrassed at the gain. i feel like a failure. my doc says this is normal based on the amt i lost and at the stage i am. he's happy with me but i'm not. the whole point of this for me, was to learn how to deal with stress and i haven't. i quit smoking but i munch, i am in school at 44 yrs old maintaining a 4.0 but i munch on sweets. i even bought hemp hearts which are proven to reduce a person's addiction to sweets and i still have it. ughhh.... -

hatters replied to a new begining's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had horrible acid reflux before surgery. Acid would come out of my nose. That's how bad. I was scared b/c people who never had this before surgery get it after. Since surgery I have had acid reflux but not as bad as before. I was taking one acid reducer a day since surgery. I am 4.5 months out and in the last 3 weeks I have only needed It once, and that was bc I eat tomato sauce. Before surgery I could of never gone 3 weeks with out eating a bottles of tums. I know we are all different but losing weight has helped my acid reflux -
