    Night hunger?

It's been less than 3 weeks since you had surgery. Are you taking an acid reducer? Hunger pains in the middle of the night could still be healing of your stomach along with the acids in your stomach. The feeling is exactly like hunger pangs. Keep some Water at your bed and drink a few ounces when that happens. For the first four or five weeks after surgery, when I went to bed my stomach growled and I felt like I was hungry, but it was the acid and the healing. It went away. Before I went to bed I usually had a few sips of skim milk and that would make feel full, then I would wake up with that feeling. My doctor and nutritionist explained to me it was acid & healing pains.

    I GOT MY DATE

Welcome!!! Are you excited as I am? Abt to start my pre-op diet next week for a june 7th surgery date!!!
  3. Since October 1, 2013 I've been going back and forth with my health insurance, the Obamacare Healthcare Marketplace debacle. I thought I was all set to have my new insurance in place on Jan. 1st, then I get a call from my Horizon Insurance agent this afternoon. Long story short, what I thought was done was not done. I completely lost it, colorful language, tears, yelling...the whole nine. No, I am not proud of my outburst because it is so out of character for me. I'm the ultimate professional at all times and I always seem to smile through my pain, disappointment, anger, etc., but today was NOT the day! I feel like I ALWAYS do things the right way, by the book and I always get screwed:( I have 4 doctors appointments this week which will have me all done with my pre-op appointments, AND I AM DETERMINED TO NOT LET ANYTHING OR ANYONE GET IN MY WAY OF BEING SLEEVED, PERIOD! Of course, I apologized to the person on the other end of the phone, as I felt very embarrassed about how I behaved, and we even laughed about it (she said she's heard every curse word ever said today because it's so close to the Jan. 1st deadline). I made a few phone calls and it will be resolved by tomorrow morning (my new insurance will be processed and I will make the premium payment in time for the Jan. 1st effective date). Now, as I get closer to being sleeved, I realize how really, really important all of this is to me.
  4. Thank goodness my surgeon did not require a liquid pre op diet for 2 weeks. All he said was do a diet for a week.. Weight watchers, Atkins, any low fat diet for a week. I mean its great to want to lose weight before surgery, but any low fat diet will help Shrink your liver. Just saying..

    Pre op diet day 8

what about a vitamin shop? I know they sell it online but I'd imagine it would suck to have to wait a week to get it.
  6. I'm day four of my full liquid, low fat, pre-op diet. I'm hanging in there! Have NOT cheated:-) Three more days to go! Scheduled to be at the hospital at 7:10 am Tuesday!!! I am sooo excited!!! Also have lost five pounds so far the last four days. So glad I work the next three days and made plans to keep myself busy so the next Three days don't drag:-)
  7. I’m on day 3 of my pre-op liquid diet. It’s not as hard as I thought it would be, but today I’ve felt light headed and nauseous. Has anyone experienced this during your pre-op diet? Any tips for getting through the next two weeks? HW - 232 CW - 232 GW - 145

    Hurry up!

I know the feeling. I thought my paperwork was submitted last week and I found out on Friday that they won't submit until this Friday when I have my authorization visit. I was frustrated, but I am getting over it. I also get to pick my date on Friday. I think I am going to choose the 23 or 26 if available. Just depending if my husband wants to miss a few days of work or if he would prefer me to schedule on his days off.

    Nicotine test

Not wanting to be a Debbie downer BUT...... I think you need to be stopped for 4-6 weeks as a minimum before surgery due to all the nasty complications like increased chance of infection, poor wound healing and higher chance of respiratory infections alongside the pressures of anaesthesia. As for your question, different surgeons test at different intervsls by different ways including urine, blood or breath. Be aware that smoking cessation products containing nicotine will give a positive result. Cold turkey is by far the best way to stop but I've heard vaping nicotine free can help in the early days. Good luck xxx
  11. Honestly, I didn't call back regularly at first, the insurance coordinator called me once a week or every two weeks, to check my progress on clearances, I admittedly procrastinated at first because there was a very stressful situation going on at the time. She continued to call and one time she asked me was I still interested in the surgery. I told her yes and finally started to do everything this year, I ended up having to meet with my surgeon again as well because it had been so long. Anyway, I did call the insurance company when I was still looking for a doctor and had them explain to me what was covered and what I would have to pay as well as what was required. A few people I know who had wls too were telling me I had to do 6 months of dieting before but I had to keep telling them no I don't because I already called the insurance company twice and I already know! Because of my high bmi, the 6 month requirement is waived. I haven't had any problems so far, just astronomical co-pays. The office and staff have been really helpful in helping me with insurance. I have BCBS too.Still keep on top of it and follow up, and sometimes it's sad but the office staff will chase away patients, I've left some pretty nice doctors because of crappy staff, now I'm not suggesting you do this, but just keep it in mind just in case. Sorry for the mini novel LOL
  12. Hi, I just accidentally posted this in the wrong section so if you are reading this twice I apologize. Wondering if anyone was able to use short term dis coverage for surgery in Mexico? I have it and it kicks in after a week of sick time and I want to take 2 weeks but i don't know that the insurance would cover an elective surgery in Mexico. Anyone have any experience with this? My short term dis insurance is with Unum.

    No Pre-op diet??/

I had that experience. They wanted us to loose some weight prior but we aren't on like liquids for two weeks prior or anything like that like I've heard before. Good luck on 6/11!!!
  14. I am looking for some advice from those that have come before me, What was you MUST HAVES at the hospital or home? How soon do you start taking Gas-ex? and How often?? When you sip, are you using a straw?? Anything else you want to share with me would be GREAT!!!
  15. Today is gonna be easy peasy! Ok so I am so sorry for all of you out there who have to do several weeks of liquids prior to surgery! My nut wants me doing high protein, low cal, low carb, no fat... I need at least 10 ounces of meat per day and up to 4 veg, 1 fruit, 3 starch, 0 fat. Yesterday I cooked all my chicken for the next 10 days. I cut bnls sknls chicken breast into 2 ounce strips (approx) Cooked them in the oven with some cooking spray. Next I put 5 strips in each ziplock bag. 7 in the freezer and 3 in the fridge. Went to the store last night and got Sargento low mozzarella string cheese. I also have V8 splash for my 1 serv of fruit and 1 of my veg servings. Vitamin Water Zero is my new fav drink since I quit Pepsi Max. I am also taking a women's multi-vitamin every morning. I will switch to a diff vitamin source the last couple days before surgery so that I will be used to it. I don't have a date yet but have submitted to fep blue for approval. After approval I want to be scheduled asap so I decided to go ahead and start the pre-op diet since it's not taking away any of my protein shakes I have stocked up for after surgery. I LOVE chicken and cheese so I think this is gonna be quite easy for me. I am not going to be eating much else. Going to a cook out Sunday but I will be taking my chicken, cheese stick, and vitamin water and avoiding the chips and soda!! I am super excited about the prospect of surgery in my near future!!! I am praying for an approval and a speedy one!! My children, friends, and most family know about my decision. My husband is SO supportive!! Alot more than I thought he would be. But he sees all the work I am putting into getting prepared mentally and physically. I have lost 30 pounds this year and I should include that in my ticker... Thinking I may change it. My mom was very skeptical at first but I sent her to vertical sleeve talk on FB and she started reading there and now she is so excited for me!! I am going to be BLOWING UP fed bcbs phone lines checking my status LOL I love reading this board!!!! I feel like I know so many of you and I have met a couple. You all are fantastic!!!

    1 year and 5 months

Damn Southern cooking and eating. I'm from New Orleans, where "We don't eat to live, but we live to eat." Where most other areas of our beautiful country finish the holiday food weeks on New Years Day, five days later, in NOLA, we start with King Cakes celebrating the Mardi Gras/Carnival season....... With all of that said, YOU HAVE LOST 15 POUNDS...... And even more impressively, you have lost/maintained through the holidays! Hold your head high, continue to pray and work through this lifestyle change ONE DAY AT A TIME! Best wishes to you and your husband in 2014.

    10 week plateau anyone?

As you stated "it is normal". My first stall was at about 11 weeks and lasted for 3, then I started losing again, just like magic! I am now 4 months post op and in another stall. It is discouraging, but I anticipate that I will be losing again, very soon.

  21. K I'm at a loss. Getting very frustrated. For the last three weeks every time I eat anything I vomit. It can be just two bites and I'm vomiting. It has hone from hard core vomit to the foam and slimed then throw up. I had finally had all I could take and went to my surgeons office on valentines day. Told them how nauseated I was and how I vomited an had horrible pain in my breastplate and back. They gave me something for nausea and sent me for an endoscope. The endoscope showed a slightly tilted esophagus and a need for a little dilation. Nothing major. Weekend ok not vomiting as much. Tuesday afternoon (when I had my 3 small kids with me) I thought I was having a freaking heart attack. Went to the ER everything ok but X-rays showed a huge air pocket in my stomach or intestines. Said I needed to go to the bathroom more. I haven't been since Monday the 20th and have been taking fiber and stool softeners and still nothing. Go back to surgeon on Wednesday and he wants a barium swallow now. I am still not able to eat without getting slimes or vomit. Not as nauseated as before. I go this next Thursday for the swallow. Was told to just keep fluid down if u could until we see what's wrong if anything. Really? Obviously something is not right or I could eat Help!! Suggestions???
  22. I had soreness (not pain) along the staple line.....if that's all it is, I wouldn't worry too much......you need time to heal......but if you are in pain, true pain, then you may want to call the doctor....good luck on your journey! Those first few weeks are hard.
  23. :001_smile:I am penciled in for July 13th with my surgeon, Dr. Mitchell Roslin at Lenox Hill Hospital here in NY. At this point I am just waiting for final insurance company approval which I hope to have this week. I've been a little frustrated with the process, but that seems mainly to be because I think the surgical coordinator in Dr. Roslin's office is relatively new and I am not so sure she knows what she is doing. Anyway, some of you may remember me from my introduction. I am 44 and the widowed father of three kids 15, 10 and 9. I've battled my weight my whole life, but gained about 25-30 pounds in the last few years as I coped with my wife's illness, death and the aftermath of all that. The good news is that I've told the kids and they are 100% supportive of my decision to have this surgery which is important to me as I really feel that I am doing this for ALL of us. Anyway, I'll keep you posted. Thanks to all of you, especially you Tiffykins, for being such a great source of information, support and inspiration. Brian

    2 more days till surgery.

I think all of us with our surgery dates this week (I'm on the 10th) are both getting nervous and doing a lot of thinking right now. About how we got here and about what the future is about to bring us. I have decided that I will use the things that brought me here as life lessons (hopefully) learned. To take the positive and carry it forward and leave the negative behind. Not forget it but to learn from it and forgive myself for it. As for the future, beyond the nerves, I'm getting excited! As my GYN told me earlier this year when I told her I was having WLS, I'm taking my health back. Not many people will take the steps needed to do that. But I am! So I have decided, no more shame about being fat. Just some self pride that I'm willing to fight back against the circumstances that have run my life for too long. I will no longer dwell on the past but look toward the future.
  25. So I've been thinking all week about this LAP-BAND® thing. I've really psyched myself out! I'm going to the initial information session on Wednesday, May 12. I'm required to go to this information session before the surgeon will have a consult with me. Once I have my consult, I can start workng on the stuff I need to do to get my approval. It's a three month multi-disiplinary process I have to go through before the surgery. I'm so READY to get this process started! I'm 115 pounds over weight for a normal BMI. My husband doesn't want me to loose that much. I'm just ready to get started and see this through... I guess the journey starts here. My initial thoughts...I hope this show lasts!
