There will be a day when parents aren't always accepting and supportive. I finally told my parents about the VSG and the possibilities last week. They reacted in different ways. One reaction - Research and make sure you know what you're getting into. Well duh! Another reaction was that my mom sent an email on how to cheaply lose weight the "old fashion" way Another was unexpected - an email from my aunt telling me about all these people who she knows has died or major complications. The upside is that I've been able to see that my boyfriend is there for me and will be with me along the way, as he's always said he would.

Hi allamess - I LOVE LOVE LOVE your username, that's awesome, I know how you feel! Well frankly it sounds like you're feeling bewildered and perhaps disappointed right now. You're not alone. Don't panic! You have a new band that isn't performing the way it was designed to........ because it's not supposed to keep you full at this stage. There's no Fluid in it to provide the restriction you need to have control and feel full. As others have wisely said, eating Protein helps some. Maybe helps a lot, or maybe just a little. You may not lose much weight right now...... if you don't you are not alone. Right now you're still healing from surgery, feeling sore, and of course you're hungry. When your blood sugar falls, you're really miserable. I'd say right now, the best thing to do is to watch and keep a record of your blood sugars (from your glucose meter) very closely. Try to avoid simple carbs, like you've always done. Diabetics are used to that. It's the same now. Keep up the protein. Keep your doctor posted on your progress. And be patient. The best thing for you now is to heal safely (diabetics heal slower as you know ) and to keep your blood sugar under control. Don't starve yourself! When your band finally gets "filled" the pieces of this puzzle will all fall into place. The portion control will come in time. THEN you will lose weight. Until then, HEAL, manage your diabetes as best as you can, and try hard to be patient. (I know it's hard, I'm struggling too.) Keep us posted on your journey!

I've decided to get back on track too . I started yesterday. It was Monday ( (the best day to begin something new) and the Christmas holidays are over at last! Here in Italy they're too long and too full of food. I was banded on May 10th 2011. Over the first year I lost 55 kilos, but from then onwards I started to slowly gain back weight. ..20 kilos. You will succeed. So will I

I was banded in 2006 and have lost 100 pounds. Recently (Dec.to current), I gained about 8-10 pounds back. After seeing primary dr. and gyn and lots of blood work, no change. My primary dr. said to exercise more. I was doing 30 min walking 4x's per week and weights 2x's. I dilligently began to walk 6 days a week for 40 min. This has been awful for my knees and fibromyalgia, but went on anyway. No weight loss at all! Last week I went for an upper GI. Findings were band is seen, but NO SMALL POUCH! Going to see my surgeon Friday. Any feedback

2 weeks out and only lost 10 pounds
catwoman7 replied to ad5707's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hit my first stall during weeks 2 and 3 post-op. Then I dropped six pounds during week four. It's not uncommon at all (in fact, do a search for "three-week stall"). your body's going to do what it's going to do. Some people lose weight fast, others lose it slow and steady. So many things can affect it (I'm definitely a slow loser, but I've lost 153 lbs in total). Just stick to the plan and you will definitely lose!!! -
The weight loss your surgeon gives you are based on state and/or country wide AVERAGES. So, it is exactly that and average. Some less, some more. Not one person is the same with anything let alone weight loss. You have had HUGE success, loosing 120 lbs in a year is astronomical! Good for you, be proud of that. The closer you get to goal weight, the slower the weigh drops because you have less of a calorie deficit. If you want to keep loosing, keep pushing. Track all of your foods and if possible, cut a few ore calories. Get those fluids! Regardless of WLS they are SO important to overall well being. I have always been a huge water drinker, so I have been exceeding my fluids goals since about 2 weeks after surgery and never have an issue. But, seriously I drink all day long. I still wait 30 before and after meals but I only eat 3 times a day so that is easier than when eating 5 meals a day. Find a schedule that works for you and run with it. I have the same routine all week at work, and then a slightly modified weekend routine. Best of luck to you, keep swimming!

11 Days post op RNY - Amazed by weight loss
James Marusek replied to isaacmaple08's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
At 10 days post-op your body is in a major heal mode. You should not be eating chicken nuggets at your stage. For RNY gastric bypass patients the Weight Loss phase is very short. You want to maximize your weight loss during this phase because soon you will slide into the Maintenance phase. So it is very very important to follow the program guidelines. Right after surgery, some individuals will lose weight quickly and effortlessly. But as time goes on, your weight loss will dramatically slow down. So make the most of it and follow the doctor's orders. -
10 wks pregnant and have Q's?
brenScar03 replied to roxie1705's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
hello! I got my band in 2008 and got pregnant in 2011 my daughter is 2 now and I had no complications due to the band. My doctor did however remove the liquid from the band to allow me to eat more for the baby. I later found out that it isn't really necessary to do that which I would have preferred since I gained 65 lbs with my pregnancy and am just now starting to lose it again. If your doctor suggest to take the liquid out I would consider not doing it since there are facts that state it won't harm the baby it's more for liability reasons. I did feel my port more as my belly grew, at times I had a little pain around it as pressure increased but nothing too bad. It never popes out! That really was the only difference in the pregnancy ( I had my son before I got the band so I have two different experiences). Beat of luck to you enjoy your pregnancy and if you have any questions I'm here for ya! Bren -
My rant..... Maybe I'm just being a brat but I feel like I don't have support on my decision to have lapband. Yes I spent the money because I was tired of the struggle of not losing weight. Not that I still don't struggle but my lapband helps me. So yesterday I was told by my step mother that she's lost 39 lbs (same as me) that what helped her lose weight was the motivation that I got surgery and spent money and she was gonna prove that she could do it without that. Geeeee thanks! 😒 Mind you we never had a great relationship. Glad I could motivate you in such a way to make yourself healthier. Idk how to respond I was just like well I needed it and said I was happy I could help. But part of me felt like it was a jab and I even told my husband about it and he had no comment and I know he didn't because he also thinks I shouldn't have done the surgery and paid money for it. My step mother has been losing consistently but in 300 calories maybe 500 if that. Well I'm still enjoying my food and wine and losing weight not starving myself. Granted I have days I can't eat without being stuck all day but usually I can have a decent meal with no issues. Anyways I really can't help but feeling irritated that she said that. Idk but I do know I've tried and without my band I wouldn't have lost the weight I have so far. I know there will always be nasty comments but ugh it sucks. Especially feeling like she was pretty much laughing in your face like hahaha I lost weight and didn't spend all that money. Idk feeling irritated 😤

Out of all the weight loss compliments I’ve received, this one is the one I just react weird to. I know they mean well, but do I say “thanks!” After being told I’m disappearing? I know to say thank you when someone says “you look great!” Or whatever else but this one baffles me and makes me twitchy, ha anyone else? Or any other comments that you’re like “ummm thanks?” to?

Bridesmaids Dress
suzzzzz replied to victoria.hudson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Agree that you will guessing at this point. Also depends on style of dress. There are some online weight loss calculators you can search for to give you an estimate of how much you may lose or will weigh by wedding time. Perhaps the gown fitters could help you determine the size to order from that. -
Although I've just started on my path towards WLS - in the past two weeks I've had my first consult with the surgeon, my first dietician consult and next week I have both pulmonary and gastro appointments. I am also going to my first support meeting this coming week. Things are progressing quickly and I've got a schedule for surgery at the end of May My greatest fear is that I'll loose the weight after surgery but not be able to maintain - I've failed so many times in the past with diets loosing weight only to regain it (and more!). I've been reading post here about success stories and they help - knowing that others have gone through what I am starting to go through. Did any one else fear failure?

December Sleevers Weight Loss Check
sweetgirl1314 replied to blkdiamond377's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good job! I was sleeved on 12/18/12. At my last Dr appt. I had a wt loss of 30lbs. That was 2 weeks ago. Since I refuse to weigh myself otherwise, I don't know my current weight. However, I do get daily compliments from coworkers and my wardrobe is starting to shrink because most of my clothes are getting to big to wear anymore. Keep up the good work ???? -
Today is my one week mark, and the official weigh day according to my surgeon. It's been an ok week, some rough patches with hunger and pain. But it's all worth it, because today I am 15lbs down from my surgery weight. NEVER had that kind of loss in one week. So happy I decided to take the plunge and make a permanent change in my life it only gets better from here!!!!

Errrr i could spit rocks i am so mad at the WII FIT! I bought a Wii about 3 mons ago bc Wii Fit was coming out and i really thought it would be great that i could do some strengthening at home. i order my Wii Fit over the internet and today it came in. I was really excited. I was following the instruction and it was asking my height and bday. Then is said alright now its time to weigh you and please step on. So i step on the Wii board and guess what IT TELLS ME.... IM OVER THE WEIGHT LIMIT TO PLAY THE Wii FIT:crying:! ERRR i mean im just upset with this whole ordeal. I know this is my fault i should have never got so over weight:glare:. So my newest GOAL is to be able to play on my Wii Fit:mellow:. I read the manual and it says the max limit is 330lbs. and my scale says i weigh 334.5:confused2:. So hopefully in 5-10 lbs i will be plaing my Wii Fit. Ugh one more thing that my weight controls:thumbdown:..cant even play a fitness game. Mandi Jo -
Starting my account with bariatricpal : All reviews with websites supporting weight loss surgery , I fell as a calling really that I need to provide my input with my success as well with my wife also. Hardest part of my day is What am I going to eat for breakfast , What am I going to eat today ? Usually I skip breakfast (horrible I know) I feel breakfast is really the most important part of your day. This is when we are going to step out into the world and deal with the various task through out the day.

Feeling wonderful!! Down 43lbs and Wearing size 12 Jeans!!! Finally noticing the weight loss. People are noticing.. and it makes me feel good. It's been 8 months since I stopped smoking, My cholesterol has dropped from 257 to 191!! It's now considered NORMAL! I even had a halter monitor on for 24hrs, and the results have improved since prior to surgery! This has all been worth it!! I do have some pain once in a while where the band is located. I think it's more of a spasms then anything. I also have learned that I need to eat slow.. otherwise my food will get stuck, and it's not a pretty site. One thing I would like to let you all know, I still do not get a full feeling. Never had! I've told my Doctor, and they keep filling me.. .and the easier food gets stuck. I think everyone is different. You have people that take a couple of bits and are full... then u got people like me that can eat 2 cups of food, and are fine.... I think it's depends on the person. You need to be aware of what you are putting in your mouth, and know when to back off the table. But I have to say, I don't think 43 lbs in 4.5 mo is too bad! I've learned to eat better, and make wiser choices of foods and I walk 2.5 miles a day!!!! Thats it for now... God bless!:tt2:

Hi everyone!! It's been a while. I'm down about 60lbs... a bit disappointed that is all the weight I lost. I pretty much stopped losing all together. I'm ok with my weight right now... The only problem that i had a fill about 6 weeks ago, and i now have developed reflux!!! It's horrible!! It happens at night... acid actually comes up into the throat, and mouth by itself.. like vomit in your sleep! I will get up maybe 2x a nite choking! I'm fine during the day, but I'm having the problem at night. I cut off drinking or eating anything around 7... but no luck. I take previcid 2x a day, but no relief. I have an apt. w/ the doctors tomorrow.. hopefully he can figure something out w/o unfilling me!!! But I have to honestly say... Getting the band was the best thing I ever did for myself. Best wishes to all!! Lucy

4 Months Follow Up
Ready for the new Lay-Lay posted a blog entry in Ready for the new Lay-Lay's Blog
Well, it is four months today since my surgery!!! Before surgery (April 13) I was 297.7 with a BMI of 45.3. The day of surgery (June 4) I was 283.8-BMI 44. I am now 224.5- BMI 36.2. SOOOOO,I have lost 59.3 since surgery, I have lost a total of 73.2 in 6 months. I did follow up blood work with my PCD, she took me off blood pressure and cholesterol meds. I am also of metformin, I still have to manage my diabetes but only with diet and exercise. Speaking of exercise--I actually like exercising!!!!! funny huh! I had to get in a good routine, I had to make sure exercise is like a perscription med, I must take everyday in order to feel better. Because I travel so much the Y works best for me, whatever city I am in, I go to the Y. I try to make sure I do an hour 3-5 days a week. I am scared because I have tried sampling everything, and I can eat everything, such as fried foods, haven't tried pizza or sweets, those are my weakness. I have decided to not to eat bread, the pasta I eat is whole wheat organic pasta. I am loving salmon, talapia, and halibut!!!! Mixed veggies!!! Also I stopped eating red meat. But my hair is falling out sooooo freaking bad!!!! I take all my vitamins, b12, calcium and vitamin. I bought some biotin 2 weeks ago. Still hair falling out. So my doc told me to increase my protein by eating a steak or something. I told my husband, he was so happy. LOL he was getting so sick of of fish, chicken and turkey. so he made the best steak I ever had!!! still cannot eat a whole meal so I shared with my daughter. I have not told anyone. Only my husband and daughter knows. I still get negative comments from my family after they see the loss. "oh you have lost too much!! you look like you on drugs!!! I know your husband don't like that!!! Stupid stuff like that makes me just want to stay away!! I have better encouragement from people I work with. Thats sad, but hey you cannot pick your family. Because all of my 24/26 and 4x are falling off of me, I had to get new clothes. So I just bought a couple of things. I am in a 16w and 1x---HELL FREAKIN YEAH!!!!!! You should have seen my happy dance in the dressing room!!!! My daughter has stressed me about wearing a dress, I have not worn a dress in almost 3 years. So I tried on a dress, I still don't like how I look in dresses, still fat on my legs and I have still have my rolls. I am not doing weights for my arms and legs. What can I do for my stomach? I know to do crunches/sit ups but is there a better way to do them that works? Also any suggestions with my hair loss? I go to the beautician every 2 weeks. I get my perm every 6 weeks. I think I need to take a break and get some braids. my doc says to lay off any perms or treatment because my hair will stop falling out around the 6 to 8 month mark. I am a black woman that cannot go natural, I don't have patience for the process of growing out my perm. I am headed to get a perm today, lol. -
SEX!!! Of course If i relied on that I would still be 330 pounds... lol. I always do my weights first, followed by hard cardio. By the time I am finished I usually need help getting to the car.
