    Questions about MMJ use.

I smoke almost everyday a joint. I got my medical card here in Florida. So edibles hit different now. So i would go low and slow with that. But no issues with using MJ. Yes they cause the munchies. So i try to keep some good snacks to help with those cravings. my local gas station has a lot of protein snacks now especially chips so i grab those, some Quest protein peanut butter cups, slim jims stuff like that. and i get full very quickly so 2 slim jims and i am full. i stayed off the MJ for the first 2 months after surgery. I wanted to make sure i was good on regular solid foods without issue.

    Liquid diet

They had us begin replacing one meal with protein shake, create protein focused meals and limit our carb serving to half a cup whole grains a day, when I started the process. I am a born rule follower so I was approved to surgery after my first month on this but the nutritionist gave me the impression she doesn’t clear people for surgery until she’s confident they are following it. Maybe that’s in part why they didn’t do they liquid dirt either.
  3. It is weird for me. I can almost eat anything, just in super small amounts. I had turkey, yam and potatoes (about 1 tbsp of each) and even a bit of pecan pie without the crust. However, I made a keto rum cake to take with me, and I took a small taste of that the day before. I was trying out the recipe. I got the foamies for the first time, from just a small taste. At this point I think my stomach just has a mind of its own and I just have to listen. Most days I just eat eggs, tuna fish, protein shakes, protein water. I had a meatball for dinner yesterday.

    September surgery buddies!!

Well I gave myself that day as a cheat day and I wasn't even going to track my food but I couldn't stop myself and tracked anyway. I ate more calories then I thought that I could which was 1114 calories. Most of the issue was cheese looking at the breakdown. So many calories in a little amount of food so I'll have to be careful with cheese in the future I think. I did eat a little of everything and didn't worry about carbs and ended up eating 77. The sad thing was that when I just eat what I want to eat, I didn't eat enough protein and only hit 50. I did have an issue with the turkey itself which I guess is the same as chicken. I just can't eat it very well, it feels like I'm eating rocks and makes my stomach sore. I was worried that it would hurt my mental ability to stick to the diet after giving myself free rein but so far so good. I think it basically got it out of my system and has actually helped my carb cravings and head hunger issues at least temporarily. So I think I did ok and I can see where I need to watch myself and calories but everything is still a learning curve at this point and I learned a lot and got to celebrate with my family, so it was a good day

    Drinking Water

I totally understand what's going all day and not peeing... I was told to get at least 32 oz of water as long as I was getting 32 oz of liquids through protein shakes etc... But when I go to the bathroom, it's a really dark almost orange color... So clearly I'm not drinking enough water... I have a highly demanding job and don't have time to go to the bathroom during the day, but the concern isn't just that. It's that I don't have time to drink water and I honestly don't have to go to the bathroom all day. Any suggestions? I am right where you are girl week seven after surgery too... Liquid diet and coffee

Its up to your surgeon. Mine specifically said not to give up caffeine during this time because of how rough it can be on the liquid diet that they dont want to cause more stress lol. but they did say no sugar, and for creamers to use sugar free creamers only. for sugar i used TRUVIA which is what i still use everyday now post op. But yes using protein shakes for creamers is a great way to get in that protein and coffee at the same time. My nutritionist highly recommended that.

    November 2022 surgery support!

Had bypass the 22nd. … yesterday was the worst of it didn’t want to drink anything only sleep. Today not feeling pain or nausea. Really paying attention to my liquids and intake to get my fluid goal. Hiccups woke me up the middle of the night. Adding ice to my protein shakes to water down since they are to thick.

    Liquid diet and coffee

Here we go! Today I start my liquid diet. Can I have coffee on this? I forgot to ask my doctor, if so what can we use for creamer? Right now I'm using fairlife protein but it it's kind of weird Sent from my moto g stylus 5G using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. Torrid is a plus-size store, so their size 0 is equivalent to a large in non-plus sizing. It was weird for me to size out of plus-size stores. For my entire adult life, I was limited to a handful of stores that made clothes in my size, and now that I can find clothes in my size almost anywhere, the options are overwhelming and I have no idea where to shop!
  10. Hello Everyone, I'm terrified that I have a stricture, as I've had a couple episodes of food coming up. But the last two days I have become more and more full as the days wears on and it feels like my stomach stays full. Tonight I could not get in enough food before my stomach started hurting. Does this sound like a stricture? If so, I've read an EGD and dilation is done. Does your bariatric surgeon do that? I ask because mine is on maternity leave so I'm scared of what will happen. How soon would this surgery take place? I'm hoping I can at least take protein shakes but I'm burping after every sip. Any advice or information from those who have gone through this would be great. Thanks. Laura
  11. Hi all, im on day 2 of this two week diet before surgery and im dying with protein shakes, jello, water. Im taking broth as well. Does anyone have any more suggestions please? Sent from my motorola one 5G ace using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. My favorite protein shake so far is SF fruit punch (Minute Maid), ice, and unflavored protein powder. It's not thick like the pre-made ones and more refreshing.

Advice needed: How to do Thanksgiving

Thank you everyone for the wonderful advice! Our family is preparing Thanksgiving dinner at our house. My husband and kids all have their favorite dishes or special requests. I usually end up cooking for the first half of the day. As for me....I'm going to focus mainly on proteins, then get very small amounts of anything else that sounds good and I think my stomach can handle. I also recruited my husband for a neighborhood walk this evening. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I am truly thankful for this community and its caring people!!
  14. Lifestyle changes are a major part of any long term weight loss & maintenance plan regardless of whether you have surgery or not. To return to eating the same way as you did before is a guarantee of weight regain. How & what you eat in the long term is up to you & how to manage it so it works with your lifestyle. Many are more flexible in their food choices & eat foods which may be considered unhealthy at times. But they don’t do it everyday, watch portion sizes & they accept it will result in a some regain & maintenance at a higher weight. It’s all about balance & sustainability. It’s important to keep to the no fluids 30 mins before & after eating while you’re losing to avoid filling up on them & flushing the food through your tummy more quickly. Plus you’ll be sipping & drinking all through the day so you won’t really feel thirsty at meal times. As time passes you’ll discover the amount of time you need to leave before & after eating. It may just be 5 minutes. And you eventually won’t miss drinking while eating. Just another of the new habits you’ll adopt. Taking vitamins long term isn’t always needed with a sleeve. The only reason you may need to continue to take additional vitamins is because you are lacking in something. I haven’t taken vitamins since 8 months post surgery. My blood work showed & continues to show I’m not lacking in anything & have no need to take supplements. Except, this year we realised my vitamin D levels drop in winter so I take D only then. Nothing to do with the surgery - just me & my sun avoidance ( am very fair). I weigh 2kgs more now than I did at my lowest weight. I put on the weight at the end of last year after a necessary dietary change (don’t absorb protein well since my gall was removed) & a medication change. Don’t like it but accept it for what it is. Sometimes things are beyond your control. I’ve never been able to maintain like this after weight loss. I’d be regaining in a couple of weeks after a diet. I work at it every day. I watch what & how much I eat. Don’t exercise as such but have a series of stretches, sit ups & resistance bands exercises I do almost every day. A lot of this is discovering what you need & what works for you.

    November 2022 Surgery Buddies

At the end I ditched the slimfast and stuck to premier caramel and chocolate that I will heat up like cocoa, sometimes will mix with the isopure. Isopure also has some fruit clear flavors, I will mix with a little crystal light and the protein and it was good, favorite was tropical punch and mango lime. Thank you, i am trying to stay positive. These protein shakes are almost unbearable at this point though. I am so glad i found the unflavored isopure still its hard I have two weeks liquids so everyday seems endless to just get to surgery date.

    November 2022 Surgery Buddies

I started my preop diet today and I will be going to surgery on November 30 in San Antonio the diet so far it hasn’t been too bad I’m allowed to proteins shakes a day 3 ounces of lean protein meat and a cup of veggies and I am allowed to have two sugar-free Jell-O today
  18. believe it or not, my two-week pre-surgery diet was more restrictive than yours. I was only allowed no-calorie fluids, 4-5 protein shakes, sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles, and one cup of broth or tomato juice a day.

    Accidently been drinking coffee

According to previous ASMBS guidelines from the ASMBS website, "Q: Do I need to avoid caffeine after bariatric surgery? A: Caffeine fluids have been shown to be as good as any others for keeping you hydrated. Still, it is a good idea to avoid caffeine for at least the first thirty days after surgery while your stomach is extra sensitive. After that point, you can ask your surgeon or dietitian about resuming caffeine. Remember that caffeine often comes paired with sugary, high-calorie drinks, so be sure you’re making wise beverage choices." 2 week pre-op diet help!

The pre-op diet is made so that it shrinks your liver enough for them to safely do the procedure. By cheating, it can cause complications with surgery and also make it harder on you after the surgery. I know this isn't the answer that you want and you're going to see where some people don't even have to do a pre-op diet but trust your surgeon and take a protein shake or something else from your list to Thanksgiving so that you won't be tempted. Temptations are going to be there not just for Thanksgiving but every day after your surgery. Good luck ❤️
  22. Hi MChaney, every program is different and should follow your programs guidelines. Mine was different in which I could have some real protein but that was my program You can ask your team about including some turkey breast and veggies and get their approval. I would also invite you to reflect on your decision, is one day being traded for a better life. I chose this week for surgery knowing well I will skip my fav holiday, but some things are just worth it. Sent from my SM-G960U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. Hey folks I need advise please! They put me on the two week pre-op diet today and I'll post their guidelines below. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, can I get by with cheating just tmro if I stuck to just about meat and veggies? Will that impact me if I have Thanksgiving dinner? This is also odd, they told me I am to have NOTHING but what's on the list.. that includes meat and eggs... That's protein so I dont understand why I can't have that? Even if it's tuna or something. Can I get some advise please, I'm really frustrated. If need be I'll stay home and not go to Thanksgiving but I don't want to have to do that if I don't have to. 24. During post op, all liquids counted as liquid. So, even my protein shakes were also counted towards my fluids. I made sure everything I drank had protein except plain water. Once I went on to actual foods it got harder but I worked out a plan that worked for me, but it was non stop drinking and eating, at least it felt that way. haha I woke up, drank 8 oz milk (protein and fluids) then a bottle of water, then ate something, then a bottle of water, then ate something, then a protein drink (gatorade zero with protein was my go to) then another water. It is easier now, but at first it was a chore. I am still/always allowed to count my shakes towards my fluids but I don't anymore and still drink at least 80 oz a day and of usually just plain water. I LOVE and have always been a HUGE water drinker so it is easy for me. I can also drink "normal" now. Some people struggle so you just have to find what works for you. You got this!
  25. Thanks, everyone. Made it through Liquid Diet pre-op. On to liquid diet post-op. It is going well. It's surprisingly hard to get the full liquid and protein count in. But glad that I'm on the other end of the WLS.
