  1. Scrambled eggs are a good option. Pureed chicken is basically chicken salad. Tuna from a can is already a decent consistency.

    Protein bars

I was looking at Protein bars the other day but opted out because of fear. I am just now adding soft veg and fruit to my diet, per my Doctors plan, and I am just afraid of messing up....
  3. @@hopeful2loose2014 @ seems like every surgeon has a different plan. My surgeon's team does not allow mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, or applesauce on purees -- only protein-rich foods. I'm still not allowed potatoes or grains of any sort (including cream of wheat) until I hit maintenance. I think every poster should follow the dietary guidelines from their own medical team.
  4. So I'm only 3 days out but this morning when I woke up and sat down to drink my 2oz of Protein shake...well it kinda hurt going down.... I wanted to see if others had experienced this or should I be worried? I have had a terrible time with gas pains so I contributed it to that.... but was wondering if this is what people consider being "tighter in the morning?" So...I drank some warm tea to see if that could help and it still felt uncomfortable going down... Oh! And I'm burping like crazy from the gas they pumped in me!! This won't mess up my band placement will it? I just want to make sure I'm doing everything like I should....

    Losing weight before sugery

My doctor has made me lose weight before surgery, my first visit was in January and he gave me 6mths to lose 60lbs. I have lost 40lbs so far and have one more month to go. He did not give me any drugs, but I do see a nutritionist and they put me on a 1200 cal diet, 60g of protein daily. I also cut out all sodas, I drink water only. Cut out fast food, sugar, pasta. I mostly eat chicken, fish, veggies, greek yogurt, and fruit. I also eat 5tbls of hemp seeds a day. they help keep me feeling full and have lots of health benifits. Good luck!

    Hungry Girl cookbooks

Lots of low cal, low carb, high Protein goodies. Tried to compare with a WLS cookbook...hard to decide. Yes...4 years...very few surgeons who do it in Canada...only some regions do it, and they're only allotted so much OR time...lots of ppl want it...it is funded by our medical system in many cases. So that takes awhile. Then you have some surgeons, like mine, who only take you when they feel you are ready. I did move far away 2 years ago...that may have slowed it down some. But it took two years to get a call back from the referral I had sent into the nearest center to my new home...by which time I had my OR date.
  7. How much Protein are you getting? Does MFP show you a pie chart of where your calories are coming from between protein fat and carbs? If so, what are the average percentages? Are you getting in all of your Water? My best guess is that, if you just started going to the gym two months ago, your body is right now trying to adapt to the increased level of activity. Most people experience a slow down in weight loss when they take up exercise. Keep up your activity level and maybe try introducing more high protein Snacks to curb hunger. When I started exercising intensely around 4 months post-op, I had to add a morning snack to my regime (a reduced fat cheese stick), because I was getting hungry between Breakfast and lunch. I also added a little granola to my afternoon greek yogurt, so the little bit of extra carbs would help fuel my late afternoon workouts.

Welcome and a big congratulations to you! You are a true inspiration . . you are so right about the proteins and water and yup if you do that right there definately is no room for the "other" stuff. . .

    Question About Hunger

If you are hungry when your sleeve is full, either you are a physical anomaly or it's head hunger......the latter being far more likely. Many people want to deny head hunger but it's difficult, if not impossible, to tell the difference. The only way to tell the difference is using your reasoning skills....the sleeve is full so real hunger cannot exist. Again, I know there may be a very few physical anomalies out there whose synapses don't fire correctly, but for the great majority of people it's head hunger. The good news is, after you start eating full foods again the head hunger dies down in most sleeve patients if you're eating right (protein first, low sugar, low starches).

    Frustrated

Hi X-ray Chic, I was banded on March 19th. My doctor gave me a menu saying to follow the clear liquids for a few days and then try to start regular liquids-- things that can run off a spoon such as blenderized soup, creamed soup made with nonfat or 1% milk, protein supplement drink, thinned cream of wheat cereal, thinned mashed potatoes, thinned sugar free pudding, thinned sugar free yogurt, sugar free popsicles. The different flavors in the soups have really helped me. We can do this !!

    Lightheaded. Not orthostatic hypotension

Yes, and I get plenty of calories, protein, water, vitamins, etc. It's mostly first thing in the morning and I just steady myself on the wall. I've talked to my dr. and decided it's not a big deal.
  12. Ok, I am 1 month out and today I had me first experience with dumping..... Funny thing is, today was the first day I got to eat cereal and I got Special K protein plus and it was no bueno:( I was so excited to eat cereal and am a little crushed. Anybody have this experience and what foods triggered it? I'm scared to eat anything but egg whites and cottage cheese:/

    A light bulb went off

Alyce you are sooooooo right, either I didn't read the right posts pre op or I chose to not pay any attention to them....thinking oh that don't apply to me! Lol. I got a wake up call......it all applied. I am 7 days post op, having major problems getting fluid in and I hate the protein options I have.
  14. Look, you have to be realistic with the headhunger and craving thing. Nothing will absolutely make that go away and you can over time get lazy and revert back to those foods. I'm no low carb fan but I do notice that when I lurch from carb filled meal to carb filled meal with simple carbs (think donuts, Cookies, vanilla slices) and coffee in between, I just get on a roll that I find very difficult to stop. The band STILL works for me, becuase my portions are small, and I run daily, so when i do this I dont gain weight. However, if I eat small and often - 3 to 4 hourly and I eat only low GI wholegrain carbs combined with Protein then I feel better, my energy level is constant, and the urge to eat bad foods really is managed better. I still get hit with the temptation and I find it very hard to stick to a routine like this - life, work, kids etc all get in the way but I've also found that as long as I'm pretty good about 80% of the time, then my weight stays stable (or kept coming off when I was losing). I lost well over 100% of my excess weight to take me well past the top of my healthy range and I've kept it off for about 2 years now. I'm not perfect, and I never will be, but its about a change in the balance of good v bad behaviours, not in sticking to a "diet" faultlessly. I'm going to Sydney next weekend for my sister's 40th, my parents are meeting us there and my other sis is coming up too. It will be a weekend full of booze, eating and celebrating, and coz we're staying in hotels, every meal will have to be eaten out. I dont fuss and fret about how I'm goign to stick with my program for these types of things - who CARES? I will go, enjoy myself, not eat past full and not get myself hopelessly tanked, lol, just do it moderately and enjoyably. Then I get back with program first thing Monday! Its really not so hard. You can do this with some effort!
  15. Wow, I really need to re-focus. Over the last 3 days I have eaten so much of the stuff that I swore off over 2 months ago. Saturday was my birthday, I turned 37. My wonderful sweet husband took me out for a date day without the kids. The day started out great, I went for a 5 mile walk and then went and had a 90 minute massage. We decided to venture to the city and we were having a great time meandering the streets. My husband decided that he was going to have some ice cream and this is where I fell off the wagon big time. I figured heck its my birthday, one little scoop of ice cream will be ok. I got a scoop of mint choc chip in a cup. About 45 minutes after eating it I started to feel nauseated and then my stomach started to cramp, yup I am thinking that I experienced my first episode of dumping. After relieving myself in the rest room I felt much better. We later went to dinner at a mexican restraunt. I had a chicken enchilada, I pulled the chicken out of the tortia. I felt that I did ok with dinner with the exception of some chips and salsa oh and lets not forget about 1/2 of a strawberry daquri. Later I spent half of the night in the rest room with horrible diarrhea. Humm so did I learn my lesson? Apparently not, because I had a few bites of candy on Easter and I ate cookies today.....not just two cookies but 4! Oh my goodness, it is like I just snapped....I have been so disciplined which has shown in my weight loss (55 pounds in 8 weeks). What in the heck am I doing? Today I just could not control my self, it was like "I have to have sugar or I'm going to die" kind of feeling. I have been doing so good without sugar for 8 weeks, I think that one scoop of ice cream started it all. I am going to try my hardest to get back into my routine tomorrow. I have to control these urges. I also haven't been getting in all of my water like I usually do, and I am certain that I have been no way near my normal amount of protein intake. I am reminding myself of a quote from Susan Maria Leach's Before and After book "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels". I am going to say it over and over again and hopefully it will sink in. At least even though I've been out of control with my eating over the last few days I am still doing my 5 mile walk 4 days a week (I work 12 hour shifts the other 3). Re-focus.....Re-focus! Thanks for listening!
  16. I am on week 3 ... And it does get better. My first week I could barely get in an out of bed by myself, I hit my wall on about day 4 when I tried to take a shower... I was in so much pain my mother had to come and dry me off and help me back in bed... Mind you I am 38 years old! Totally humiliation, but it passed. I am back to work this week, the pain is gone and I am able to focus on walking and ensuring I am hitting my protein goals! Hang in there.... This to shall pass!

    5 days post-op

(Man I hate it when you think you hit post but it deletes instead, let's try this again) Now on Day 5 of my post-op. Next doc appointment is set for this Thursday and back to work on Friday. I woke up today to a great morning. I had lots of energy and was able to drink lots of water. Got my girl off to school and decided to run and see the hubby at work for a few minutes. He even commented about how I had my color back. Yah! So I decided to drive to the store and walk a little. That didn't last long because I got really tired. My hubby tells me I forget I am on an all liquid diet (and I mean ALL liquid) I have been on the all liquid diet since 4/28 and boy it's getting old. It isn't that I feel hungry I think I am past that stage it's just that I don't have enough energy since the surgery. Since the surgery I haven't been able to drink the protein drinks, I am hoping that after my appointment on Thursday I will get the ok to drink protein again. I did something I didn't think I would need to quite this soon. I bagged up clothes that I can not fit anymore. I am not quite ready to go on a shopping spree but I think I am going to have to shop for a few things sooner than I thought. Well that would be all the good going on in my life and the only bad I can think of is still being sore and of course the lack of energy after a while. One last good thing. When the hubby got home I asked him if he would get on the Harley so I can climb up. I'm so freaking excited because i can actually put my hand between my leg and the saddle bags. I haven't felt great on his bike in 10+ years. My goal this summer is a weekend trip on the bike with the hubby. He even said it was alot easier with me getting on and off the bike. GOOD DAY!!! GOOD DAY!!! Have a great one. ~Kris “There’s a difference between interest and commitment. When you’re interested in doing something, you do it only when circumstances permit. When you’re committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results.” ~Unknown

    Feeling famished

Try getting more protein in the morning. Then have a piece a fruit when you feel hungry. If your still hungry try a beef jerky or your favorite protein snack. Maybe even popcorn if you're craving crunchy and salty. You don't have to gain to satisfy the cravings just be creative and mindful.
  19. I'm one month out and get about 600 calories per day on a good day. But, I've been struggling to get in my Protein. The shakes make me sick. The Isopure flavor is overwhelming. I hate the texture of unflavored protein. I tried a Protein Bar and it took me 45 minutes to eat 1/2 of it. Sigh.
  20. Hi, Melinda! Welcome to the losers' bench! I'm just over five months out and life is good! Like you, I had a terrible time with Protein drinks at the beginning. I finally gave up on the powdered shakes altogether and now I drink the Premier Nutrition ready-to-drink chocolate protein shakes. I get them at costco but you can also buy them online here: Premier Nutrition - Diet, organic, and low carb, Protein Bars, protein powders, protein supplements and health supplements and here: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Premier-Protein-Shakes-18-11oz-shakes/dp/B001O213RM/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1282520693&sr=8-3-fkmr1]Amazon.com: Premier Protein - High Protein Ready To Drink Shakes, 18-11oz shakes: Health &…[/ame]. I have one for Breakfast every morning and at 30 grams of protein in 180 calories, it gives me a good jumpstart on my protein fo the day. I'm a lightweight and I've been a very slow loser, but I'm more than halfway to my goal, and less than 6 pounds from a "normal" BMI, so I'm happy with my progress even though it hasn't been as fast as I'd hoped. I have really challenged myself to NOT make myself miserable every time the scale slows down or stops, and for the most part it's worked out well for me. One thing that has just been wonderful is that almost all of my compulsive eating urges are gone. I still have "head hunger," but the reality is that I just plain cannot eat like I used to, so binging like I used to is out of the question. And I am constantly -- like, every. single. meal. -- amazed at how little I eat and how satisfied I am with that little bit. It feels so good to be a light eater instead of the volume eater I had been all my life! I only started doing much exercise a month or so ago, and I've really been enjoying it. I work with a trainer at the gym twice a week, and take a dance class twice a week, and try to get in a good long walk at least once or twice a week. It feels great to be getting stronger! And the exercise seems to have jump-started my weight loss some, too. Hang in there and know that it will get easier every week from now on!
  21. I was sleeved on the 16th as well. 2nd day was rough because I had a bad gas bubble and vomiting. I almost did not get to go home. I am getting alot of fluids down and broth. Protein shakes are so nasty to me and I really liked them on my pre op. I am trying really hard to get them down. I went and got protein shots that are only 3 oz and gag those down just to get the protein in. I know this will get better. I don't really have any other problems except for the gas which is slowly going away. I can say very happily I am down 28 lbs since Aug 9 when I went on my pre op diet. (19 from pre op and 9 since surgery) Good Luck!!!!

    1 week follow up appt.

Are you hitting your targets for fluids and Protein? Are your incisions healing nicely? How are you sleeping? What's bothering you, that should be on your agenda. If you can hit your intake goals, maybe they'll accelerate you to soft/puree. They did for me.
  23. I am a little over nine weeks post op and I usually eat about 800-900 calories, but I do exercise for 30-45 minutes every day. I use the Isopure Protein and I also found it overwhelming at first. I would seriously be gagging every day as I drank it. At my follow up with my doctor, he suggested adding some lemon juice to my Protein shakes to take some of the sweetness out of them and now that's what I do now. I even actually enjoy them now.
  24. Hello Everyone! I have a quick question. How much do you eat per meal? As of tomorrow I am 1 month from banding. I am eating 3 meals a day, 1/2 cup per meal, all Protein. Is that about the right amount? I really don't feel any restriction yet but am being very careful to follow all of the rules my docs gave me. I've lost 28lbs since beginning liquids on 11/27. Does this sound normal to everyone? I have an appointment on Feb 8th where they may do my first fill. Just kind of wondering what others experiences are or have been.
  25. Hi, I'm Ann I'll be banded 11/30! I'n also excited but very nervous. I would love to keep in touch. This is all so new for me but have done 2 weeks of the protein shakes and am getting pretty sick of them!!! See ya around and continued success!
