the scle is not budging 1 ounce, but I'm happy 26 lbs down. Thats 10% of my starting weight! I'm in bandster hell, but thats ok.... I was mentally prepared to be there. I'm eating and drinking Water and not worring too much. And very thankfully, I lost from my tummy first! Surprised me considering I'm very apple shaped.

We have virtually the same stats. I am 5'9" and will soon be 44. My highest weight ever was 295 lbs. I was at 285 when I started the pre-surgery diet. I have lost 40 lbs. since the end of March. The head hunger is a continuing struggle but much easier since the band. I had lots of health issues (high blood pressure, diabetes, GERD, back pain, etc. - all now resolved with no more medications) and I felt like I had to do something drastic. Now it doesn't seem all that drastic - just reasonable and workable. Good luck!

Hi Guys, On some posts I see people who have been banded speaking about counting calories, eating nonfat or lowfat. I'm a little confused. I am in the pre-op process and wondered this; if I am to eat protein first, then veggie, then good carbs if space permits, do I need to restrict fats? I have lost weight eating Atkins style, i.e. bacon, chicken salad, fish w/dill sauce etc. The fats always make it more palatable for me. I absolutely cannot eat a salad with fat free dressing. If we are being restricted as to the amount we are eating, can't we incorporate fats into our diets? Marieze

I was wondering if after losing the weight, is the port visible? Is it possible to wear a bikini without seeing the port, and can you feel the port.

I went back to work today after being off since 6/3. I could have went in earlier but I wanted to make sure that I was going to be okay during this horrible humid, hot weather we had last week. Since I am a teacher this was a very hard time to take but I needed to to it now since I will be running a half day camp once school is let out for six weeks this summer. My daughter is also going to have her banded on 7/8. My class was very excited to have me back. Alot more of my collegues knew I was banded than I wanted to know. I should have kept my mouth shut. I only told my lunch mates but this didin't stay at the table. I heard that some of these teachers were jealous and bitching that I took the time off. It is none of their business!!!!!! Most of them were happy to see me and said I look great. I feel grea for doing ths life change and will contiue the journey!t and had lost 11 lbs in 2 weeks! After lunch on of my students said that i look different, I told him that I put up my hair. He said no it is not that , I think you lost weight!!!!!!! That made my day that my students notices the change in me! I am happy to be back but i have alot of work to do to get the end of the school year to a close. Thank goodness I have 5th graders that love to help the teacher! I did feel hungry today during lunch for the first time since surgery. Once I smelled the cafeteria food, (which is absolutely gross) I was straving! What a head game that is to crave that food. I went out ang got grits. I had to start muchie stage a day early. Tomorrow will be an easier day. Good luck to all that are going back to work. The only regret I have is having work know what I did. I am still on cloud 9 and will contiue the journey strong.

LapBand has done nothing for me, please help me :(
tayvia99 replied to crispypanda's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am so sorry that you are feeling this way and not loosing the weight you so hoped for. Has your doctor talked to you about this? What does he/she say about it? -
Well Grammy this isn't a diet. It is a tool to help you through whichever diet you chose. It isn't the end all solution to weight loss, you still have to watch what you eat but if you check out this forum you will read about all the success stories here and you too can be a success story. You'll find the people on this forum are very helpful and nice. Best wishes to you.

So I work is screwing with me again and I had to cancel my pre-op. I should be able to reschedule and still make June 8th. I am very happy with my pre-op weight loss (43 lbs.), I feel great and being focused on surgery prep has really helped me keep my weight in line. The funny thing is I fell kind of scrawny right now…I know that is not the case…and the picture below validates this. I am sitting on the couch with a guy about my height and about half my weight (I am 330 right now). It is a great trip through the looking glass and how distorted our self image can be, and then become if you have success with the band.

I just called my Dr to organise my first fill/check up after my op on the 22nd of November. They gave me an appointment for the 18th December, which by my calculations makes it 2 days short of 4 weeks. Isn't that too soon for a fill? Surely it is?? I mean I WANT to start losing more weight ASAP, so if its ok, then I will go for it (I'd hate to put weight back on cos I am gorging myself cos I have no restriction). But I just wanted to check if any one else has had their first fill this soon after?? Thanks in advance Meredith

Should I get an unfill after all this time???
Mimilou2004 replied to jennypooh624's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I disagree with Angie and totally agree with Cindy...something has changed and a small unfill now before damage is done would be wise....my doc thinks problems start small and because we are afraid of not losing or even gaining we wait til it is a big proble,...New fills can always be scheduled.... Sometimes I wish I had never started calling them fills...it puts a very negative spin on UN-FILL!! I wish I had started calling it what it is...a lap band adjustment...no matter which direction it was in. Good luck and let us know how you are doing. Mimi -
When was the first time post op you went UP in weight?
clk replied to canuckpaisa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gained 11 pounds between surgery, IVs and the long flight back home. It actually took until the end of my first month post op to see a drop on the scale. Small fluctuations are normal. Recuperating from major surgery, tracking calories and eating a very restricted diet can give us the expectation to see a consistent drop on the scale. We want immediate results for our hard work and to prove to us that we made the right choice. But it's pretty normal for your weight to fluctuate from day to day, up and down. The only thing that really helps is adding in Water - fiddling with your diet is unnecessary. It's part of the journey that we tell ourselves we're ready for, but stalls, stops and starts (and even tiny gains) are perfectly normal and you will most likely experience them. Put the scale away as much as possible in the beginning. In my opinion, it's necessary to weigh daily in maintenance as it keeps you accountable. But in the early months it just makes you crazy and makes you obsess about what you're eating - a habit you should break in favor of adopting overall healthier habits. Weigh once a week or every few days and you'll like the results better. Good luck and congrats on your new sleeve, ~Cheri -
Need encouragement to get back on track
Rsilversea replied to mom2girls's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Like you, I know what foods I can cheat with. My solution--ditch them! I don't keep them in the house and I try to stay far away from them when I go out. I log my foods faithfully. I had problems right after Christmas but now I am slowly losing weight again. I know it's hard but you can do it! Look how far you've come and remember, you're already a winner! -
Emotional after Surgery
music1618 replied to kparadisek's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is due to our rapid weight loss. Your fat cells have lots of hormones stored in them. As those are leaving our body the hormones are absorbed and thus we become an emotional wreak. Also many of us go through a mourning process. You see the tv commercials or sitcoms and it seems everyone is eating. You on the other hand are having soup for the millionth time and all you really want is a burger and fries. Everyone is different and the emotional stage hits everyone at different times and with different intensity. My suggestion is when you are alone and you feel that urge to cry let it happen. The more you fight the greater the chance of having issues in front of people. -
I haven't had surgery yet but have so many questions and you all have been nothing but helpful. I am wondering if after surgery, after your weight loss period, does everyone need a tummy tuck or has anyone got toned themselves? Is it possible to work off all the extra skin through exercise? Just wondering anyone elses experiences

Welp, it's been almost a year since my surgery. I had lost 73lbs, THEN winter hit. I got the winter blues, I hate to exercise inside, I'm am outdoor kinda girl. So with the crappy weather I found a good "excuse" to let myself go. So far I have gained back 8 lbs. I found I love chocolate! I never liked it much before, but now I can't get enough. I am so disgusted in myself for giving in to laziness again! I want so much to get my motivation back. I'm so tired lately that I sleep until 11:30-12:00 almost every day! I am saying this out loud do that I can be held accountable for it. Please send happy thoughts my way! Thanks

I was a member and could no longer get my password to work. I tried to reset password for several weeks. Never got email with new password, so I have created new profile. Has anyone else had this experience. I could not find a way to get to a help desk or assistance of any kind. I didn't loose much weight during my several weeks away from here, so I guess this is my opportunity to start over new.

I was banded in 1996 and lost weight several times the lowest weight I got to was 70kg(140lb) but alas I had the Fluid removed for a baby and gained back all of my weight... then I had fluid put back in 2001 but had too much and as I wrote the first time I had too much salvia and I couldnt cope... I thought I could take care of my weight again by myself... Hence I was filled yesterday again... Fingers crossed this time Andee

I did my initial interview with the surgeon a week after I decided to have VSG. And I completed all my pre-surgery tests and was sleeved within a month. But I knew what I wanted and my insurance is very weight loss surgery friendly. I never felt comfortable telling anyone about my decision to have surgery. I had to tell my parents and my best friend, but that was it. It's been 17 months since surgery and I'm just now feeling okay about telling people - but only if asked, I don't volunteer any information. I would not suggest getting sleeved together. If one of you needs help during the1st few days post-surgery, the other may not be able to help. I'd at least stagger the surgeries a month or so apart. You both could go through all the pre-op tests together. You'll still be losing weight together and can be there to support each other through the process.

First day to the site. Looks great so far. A little about myself, I'm a 43 year old father of a 1 year old baby girl. I just had a Dr's appt on Monday and found out I'm at my all time highest weight of 315 lbs @ 5ft 10in. I had the lap band surgery in '08. It worked well. I got down to 240ish. Then in 2010 it got herniated and had to be removed. So my plans now are RNY.

Haha, you wimp.....just kidding. I remember your hellish first experience. Hopefully this will be better. As for the sweet spot, sometimes a very small amount makes all the difference (don't get stuck into rounding up or down .5 cc's......sometimes .2 cc's can do the trick). Also, I understand that as you lose weight and your belly shrinks a bit, you may need to re-assess your fill needs (I guess I'm trying to say that the sweet spot is not always a fixed position).

Sleep Test and a few other questions
Lizalee replied to Diamondette's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sleep study - I believe why they order them, other than the fact that many severly obese people have sleep apnea (as described above) and can die from it, it's because most insurance companies won't pay unless there are some "co-morbidities" unless your BMI is extreme. I have it, and use a CPAP machine at night - the change was fantastic - I felt so much better with it, since I wasn't having to sleep sitting up and waking up dozens of time a night) So, you need to know if you have it so it can be treated immediately - leads to high blood pressure, stress on heart, and even death. And because it will be helpful information for anesthesia when they put you to sleep. And because it will be another marker of sucess of weight loss, because weight loss may eventually cure it. Pre surgery diet: My bariatric center required 3 month supervised diet in order to see if I could maintain a healthy diet and loose weight (follow the rules). Many insurance companies require it (some 6 mos to a year). If you can't maintein or loose weight before the band by following the diet, you may be a better candidate for gastric bypass, since the gastric bypass doesn't let your body absorb as many nutritients from the food and has more severe consequences if you over eat sweets (dumping syndrome). Another reason for the pre-op diet is to shrink the liver, which makes it easier for the surgeon. The presurgery diet is basically a healthy diet - low fat, high Protein - 60 - 80 grams of protein a day. Plus lthey wanted me to find a Protein shake that I liked because you need them for the first month after surgery until you can tolerate solids better. Some surgeons require a clear liquid diet before surgery for a week or two - mine didn't. I think that's to shrink the liver. PIll size: I break my pills in half and have no problem. I don't have a good restriction. Post op I used liquid paid meds. I have heard capsules can cause problems, but I haven't had any problem. Talk to your phamacist if concerned about med size - often they can be crushed or you can get liquids, but some meds shouldn't be taken out of the capsule or crushed. And by the way, since my surgery in April, I'm now OFF most my meds, so it's not a problem anymore! :-) Hope that helps. -
12 pounds from goal-just unfilled-no restriction-Now what?
pearlygirl replied to ginger12/26's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am still pretty new to the band(2 months) but wanted to #1 - commend you on an amazing weight loss!!! and #2 - offer some support. You must have been banded for some time in order to have had such a great weight loss and although you are currently without restriction, you CAN do this. You have been "trained" by your band and have done very well. Sure, this may be a little harder but you are not who you were. You are a strong 150lb woman. You know portion control and will be successful and maintaining that while you are unfilled. I am sure you will get some great advice from others who have walked in your shoes. Well wishes!!!! -
Wow! After days of freaking out..... nothing! I love my doctor. I asked my husband to leave work early and a friend to baby sit. Got to the doc's office, he congratulated me on my weight lost ( eventhough I put on 2 kilos last night celebrating my birthday which is tomorrow and I thought I should get the eating part out of the way while I could still eat - I know.... i'm bad! but the lemon tart was excellent!) Ok... ahem, sorry, got off track, I'm like hyper with excitement and relief. So I jumped on the table, lift my shirt, he asked me to put my arms behing my head, and do a semi situp. I was looking away with the fear of needles and all, 2 seconds, he told me to relax, i thought he was going to start but he said I was ready!!!!! He only put a tiny amount in .5 ml, and Im going back next month for the next and every month until I am where I am supposed to be. Completely painless! no anesthesia btw, no machine. Thank you all for your patience! tellie
