Help!! December bander, Liquid Diet
heschete replied to zionsma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a 2 week preop diet that allowed 1 small meal a day. I did not follow my diet really. I did low carb/high protein after researching the whole liver shrinking idea. -
Help!! December bander, Liquid Diet
Florida Pete replied to zionsma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You might check into Protein waters like Special K2O that should be available at your local grocery store. Also look into the broths, chicken broth and Beef broth. Those are Clear Liquids and have some protein in them too. -
Well I just looked back and its 2 1/2 weeks since I hit onederland, and I really couldn't imagine ANYTHING feeling so good as that did, but I guess it has been a good couple of weeks all in all, and it does!! First I hit onderland, :cheer2: :cheer2: then my next aim was to be overweight, and no longer obese, which I hit a week ago :clap2::clap2: , and today I got back into the 13 stone bracket AND hit the 40lb loss marker   I'm 2lb off 3 stone loss, and 6lb away form being the same weight as my wedding day (After not seeing that for 8 years of self abuse, and 2 pregancnies!). So here is my next set of promises to myself; I am going to go back to basics for a week, back to liquid only and 90g Protein without fail, I am going to lose that 6lb within the next 8 days to hit my easter goal! I am going to weigh LESS than I did on my wedding day by the time I go on holiday in 2 weeks, and I will not be afraid to wear shorts in public while I'm away. I have a dress which is about 1/2 inch too small around my bust, it will fit, and I WILL wear it to my friend's wedding in 4 weeks from now. And when I do? I'll be a size smaller than I have ever been in my adult life, and I will have lost 4 1/2 dress sizes. I will dance at the reception, I will not hide from their photographer, and I may (possibly) even let my own husband carry me over the threshold as I was too scared of hurting him on our own honeymoon night as I felt so fat! I LOVE MY SLEEVE!!!:success1:

I Tried Looking On The Search Tool Bar

I don't track calories, I measure ounces starting with 1 & worked my way to 2 over 1st 2 weeks post op. I eat every 3 hours & drink fluids in between. Cream soups have worked best for me @ first single cup o cream chicken made with chicken stock (has extra protein), then others I could blend. Tomato/beef based has been too strong so far. Bathing, after wounds completely heal, but @ least 6 wks I was told. In Oregon, here though anytime. -
New, Confused, No Insurance to cover Lap Band Surgery, But Hopefull
readytogoforit replied to mrs_joshica@yahoo.com's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
ok, start eating differently. you will start to like yourself more everyday! there is a group where they talk about what to eat on this site. get rid of sweets(candy, bakery goods, etc). start to concentrate on Protein and only complex carbs. just being aware of what you put into your body will help - keep a journal of everything you eat each day. drink 48oz. to 60 oz. Water everyday. what city are you in? make sure you find a reputable doc, just cause they can do the surgery doesn't make them the best choice. I know it is hard but start exercising. walking is the easiest and least expensive way to start. sorry if this seems like a lot to do already but trust me, you will start to feel better. it will be better everyday, keep us informed, that also helps. support makes a big difference. don't be alone in this pain anymore! -
Chike makes in my opinion a very good banana and also strawberry Meal Replacement powder. It is rather thick and very creamy... I use soy milk to add a little more Protein. Their cholcolate is really good too, I just ordered banana and a chocolate, thought mixing them would be yummy. Anyway if your tired of chocolate, I would recommend that product. They will send you 5 full sample packets of their product just for shipping and handling....$6.95 I think. http://www.chikenutrition.com/free-sample.html

I am very curious to see how the 5DPT works out for you. I am having such issues with carbs that I'm ready to just go crazy! I cannot for the life of me stop eating them. It wouldn't be so bad if they were all healthy carbs like fruit and veggies, but in addition to that i'm having Cookies, cake, donuts, English muffins, sandwiches, and just about anything i can get my scrawny fingers on!! If that 5DPT works for you to get the carbs out, and get you back on track, I will try it! But i'm starting to hate Protein shakes so much!!! Good Luck! Patti -

The only time I have ever heard anything remotely similar to that was during pregnancy when I was starting to develop high bp. I was told to eat HALF my body weight in grams of protein every day. High protein diets in pregnancy work to lower bp and keep your body from breaking down cells to feed itself. -
I agree with the isopure. The zero calorie versions have no sugar, no carbs, and 25 grams of Protein for a scoop which is half a serving. They are also only 105 calories a scoop and have some flavors that taste just fine with Water such as mango peach and pineapple orange banana. I highly recommend these especially if you are getting tired of the standard vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. They have plenty of other amazing flavors as well.

Did your doc not give you some post-op instructions and guidelines?? I have tape over my incisions on my stomach. I was told to just continue to shower regularly with them and eventually they will get looser and fall (be able to be pulled lightly) off.... and I can attest to this because I had the some type of tape for my first surgery and this is what they did. About 10 days post-op they were pretty loose and I made sure they were loose enough to pull off so I didn't rip any of the scab (big no-no). My doc has us start taking our Vitamins and supplements at 10 days post-op. The post-op diet for us is 10 days of clears, 10 days of full, 10 days of mushies then you can go on to normal foods (as your sleeve will allow). If I were you I wouldn't worry about calories right now, you shouldn't be consuming enough to even worry about it. What you should be focusing on is trying to get your Protein in, which will aid in fat loss (versus muscle loss) and also is a natural appetite suppressant. If you're not already, I highly suggest joining a site like myfitnesspal.com or dailyplate.com!! I wish you luck! -
Seriously? I was not told anything at all about hair loss, as long as we eat enough protein. Perhaps your body is just adjusting to your new pouch and the hair loss will stop. I sure hope it will! All the best.

I'm so sorry for your losses.. I can't imagine how hard this is for you two. Protein bars are another choice for sure but just be careful of the calorie content. 1 gram of protein shouldn't be more than 10 calories. So a 20gm Protein Bar should be 200 calories or less. A lot of the protein bars are just as bad a candy bars. I'm 7 months out and for me food is still blah.. I wish I could find at least one dish that wows me..but for now it's like "well that was disappointing". This surgery definitely has turned me into a picky eater. I'm hoping this gets better for both of us. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Right now, you should be on a liquid diet, like pre-op for a day or two longer, then transition to pureed foods for 2 weeks Then to soft/moist foods for another 2 weeks. All the while getting 60-80 grams protein and 64+oz Water with 30 minutes after water before meals, and 45 minutes after meals before water. Different programs have different variations of this.Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app

JamieLogical replied to Clarevoyant's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It all gets better. I know it's hard to believe, but this will all be a distant memory someday. Eating gets easier. Getting your protein in gets easier. Your incision WILL eventually heal. Are you on solid foods yet? You could try protein bars instead of shakes. I switched away from the shakes as soon as I could because I was SO over them. Just make sure to choose protein bars with high protein, low carbs, and low saturated fats. -
I am almost one month out. I had the six month waiting period, talked to lots of people and read this site religiously. It is still more difficult than I was expecting. I am very happy with my progress and have zero regrets but damn, this is so life altering and consumes my every thought. I assume it gets better? Things I am struggling with: Nothing tastes good. I can live with small portions but would like to at least enjoy what I am eating. Even Water tastes different. Did this happen to anyone else and does it get better? Protein. I can hardly eat more than a few bites of anything so getting my 60g though food is impossible. I choke down the Protein shakes and have tried so many to see if I can find one I like but no luck. I freeze the Isopure into popsicles and that is better than drinking it but still struggle every day. My largest incision is taking forever to heal. Been to dr twice who swears it is not infected and says the lack of protein had hurt my healing process (though the other incisions healed just fine.) I have really upped the protein intake last few days. The largest one is in the worst spot, right up against the band of my pants so it is constantly getting rubbed against. I thought I was so prepared but this is hard and my mom is the one I would be talking to about all of this every day but she passed away unexpectedly on Mother's Day and that is just making things even more difficult. Thx for reading. Would love any advice you have.

No spleen and 3 week liquid before surgery
NewStart95987 replied to 2Fat42Long's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had anything done with my spleen but the diet isn't because of your spleen. Most surgeons require some sort of diet to shrink the liver to give them room to move around while operating. My doctor did not make me do any kind of a liquid diet because I did a high protein diet before-hand and lost 23 lbs. This was all they needed to know I was serious and that my liver had shrank enough. Good Luck to you! -
Two weeks post-op
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Newme16's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome! It sounds like you are doing great. Getting in your Protein and Fluid is the most important thing right now. You are right on track. Just a heads up, you will probably stall about week three which is completely normal. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall -
So what did you swich to? I always preferred Premier Protein but the shelves are empty. Some flavors of Muscle Milk were okay, most of the others I have such a strong canned-milk taste it totally turned me off÷🍶

1 Month Check Up
Inner Surfer Girl replied to beautifully2114's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! Yes, almost everyone experiences a stall about three weeks after surgery. Just follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids, take your Vitamins and supplements as directed, and exercise when cleared. So, I'm supposed to be on "normal" foods again by now, but I'm still having issues eating over 2-3 ounces of food at a time. Additionally, some so-called "normal" food refuses to stay down because my pouch just doesn't like it yet. I was told by my nut that I need to hit 75 grams of protein a day, and unfortunately, most of the food I can keep down doesn't quite have me hitting that goal. I find myself reaching for protein shakes again and again because I know that they can and do help me get the required protein I need. I've tried making higher protein recipes, like putting protein powder in hummus to make it more protein, but maybe I'm not putting enough in. I also throw it into things like Wendy's chili, which stays down quite well. Fish and chicken are both a bit hit or miss for me. Same thing with Jerky. Most of the time it goes down fine, but sometimes that changes. Any recommendations on how I can consistently hit my goals?

Why did you choose bypasd?
laceygorrell replied to lisa0617's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I chose the sleeve because that's the only option I have. My doctor only does the band or sleeve. I have heard to many bad about the band. I got this app and looked at all these threads and alot of people have really good results with the sleeve. I originally wanted bypass as I would like to lose 140 pounds but I am gonna continue with the sleeve and if in the future I could get it revised to the bypass. Alot of people choose the sleeve because it's not messing with your intestines and such but I have seen so many good from both sleeve and bypass -
Liquid Torture, I mean diet...
Papillon replied to Papillon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Day 9: Not so bad... When I am at work I tend to do better because I am distracted with things to do haha. I can't believe the surgery is less than a week away. The liquid diet hasn't be unbearable... it sucks, but I have been true to the wishes of my surgeon. We found out that you can have Soup if you strain it. This has made it possible to get through the day knowing I have something to eat at home that is not a Protein shake. PF Changs soup is great! :thumbup1: So going to get some tonight on the way home. I really need to stay positive... My voice teacher means well but she got me all freaked out this afternoon and I just had to take a moment to breathe. She is worried about me and I know that means she cares. I just don't want to freak out about voice loss... I can't add that to everything else I am feeling. I am a singer and the potential changes will be hard to handle but I am also excited about the physical changes. There has to be a middle ground between nothing changing and OMG what did you do.. hahah I do not want this to be an emotional choice, I want it to be a logical choice. I have done my research and I believe in my surgeon. He advised me that this surgery should not affect my voice and I believe him. I have also talked to several people who have had similar surgeries and they have not noticed a huge change. The most I heard about was some breathing changes after surgery that required 2-3months to Iron out. The rest of my life is worth 2-3 additional months of working on my voice. I am taking classes so I will have people to help me through. Thanks for listening. -
I'm wondering how folks take their pain medications post surgery. I have a pretty sensitive stomach, have a really hard time even tolerating Advil. When I've taken narcotic painkillers (like Percocet or Vicodin) unless I take them with a big meal, I'm double overhead with stomach pain that radiates into my back an hour or too later. Is there any option for pain meds that aren't taken by mouth post surgery available? I'm specifically referring to once you leave the hospital. Thanks. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

A whole lot of Protein!
KitKat40 replied to cindymaried's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every surgeon is different I had to do 3 days of clear liquids before surgery also protein is based on the person every one is different ... I was told pre op to shoot for 80-90mg I had to go on a diet prior .. Everyone is different so there needs are different ... Now that I'm post op the surgeon gave me 64/64 ... I'm 1 week post op and in up to 40-48 0z of fluids and about 60-70 of protein it's gradual u work ur way up
