  1. Honestly, since I'm hardly eating any "real food" I've got to be chock full of chemicals. Between protein shakes, protein water, sugar-free non-fat yogurt, Crystal Light, turkey bacon, light mayo, high protein snacks, etc. I'm not sure that I'm actually eating "healthier" at all
  2. Sorry for the late reply, but thanks to everyone for answering my questions. At my 2 week post op visit I was down 14lbs. Now that I am on puree food, I can definitely feel that I did indeed have surgery! lol. I still never feel anything from drinking, but really feel pressure and tightness feeling after eating. Some things I can eat more of than others. Yogurt is pretty easy to get down right now, but eggs or refried beans I can only eat maybe half the amount before feeling sick. Not worried about it, just going slow. Feeling pretty good overall still!

    Any April 2018 Sleevers?!?!

I was sleeved 4/25/18 by NYBG. I had some reservations and right before surgery I had some doubts, however I felt I was to far into the process to back out. I did the 10 day pre op diet which consisted of Protein Shakes, broth, Yogurt, Jello-pudding and pops. I had started the week before doing Meal Replacements. I felt that it would help relieve the shock of not eating my 900 calories meals 3 times a day.🤦‍♀️. The only cheat I had was I would have 3 slices of dill pickles in the afternoon. 2 days before the surgery I stopped with that. The liquid phase wasn’t that bad. I have to admit that by that point I was laser focused on the surgery. Surgery- Not sure if others can identity but I had made it so much scarier in my mind. From the moment I entered the hospital to the time I left I felt as if it were my family members who were taking care of me. They keep me comfortable and informed every step of the way. My only complaint would be, they should give you a nice big dose of pain killers for the ride home. It was an hour away from my house and a lot of turns and potholes. That was the first time I had experienced pain from the surgery. Home- The first night I was home the pain was pretty bad. I found myself thinking, WTH did I do to myself. I tried to go up stairs to bed and that was just not a good idea. Laying flat on your back when you are a side sleeper just wasn’t happening. I picked up my pillows and went down and slept on the recliner down stairs. I woke frequently and when I did I would get up and walk around the downstairs of the house. Each time I got up I would sip on Water. I was told at the hospital that for the first 3 days worry more about staying hydrated then getting Protein in. That the Protein would come in time and that was exactly like it happened. Pain Medication- They prescribed me Percocet. I took one and began itching. So I stopped that right away and went to extra strength Tylenol which helped take the edge off. After the first day of being home I jumped up on the scale, and was shocked when I saw that I had gained 7 lbs from the time I went into the hospital. Pain and weight gain, this was not what I signed up for. So day 2 and 3 were just trying to get Fluid into me and the gas and excess Water from the IV’s out of me. I walked, sipped, walked, sipped, walked, sipped. Day 4- The skies opened up. It was the first time I felt better. I was finally able to sleep on my side and go back up to sleep in my bed. The 7lbs that I had gained from water weight were now off. At this point I was able to go for a walk in the neighborhood and felt closer to better then to crap. I was able to get 30 grams of protein in, 64 oz of water. I was also able to get a 1/2 teaspoon of Peanut Butter down as well as 3 oz of yogurt. Day 5- Woke up not feeling as good. I took the Vitamins I had started on day 3 and also an Iron pill. My Iron had been low after surgery. I think I tried to do to much on day 4 because I felt really good. I rested and felt fine the rest of the day. I was able to get 64 oz of fluids, 1/2 scrambled egg with cottage cheese, 3 oz of purée tuna fish, 1 Protein Shake in. All sat fine with no indigestion, heartburn, or nausea. The only issue I am having with swallowing is my chewable Calcium. They hurt going down. I am going to see if there is an alternative. 5’3 HW 227 SWPOD 213 SW 204 CW 200 GW 130 Total weight loss -27lbs
  4. I make my own (or should say made and froze ) my own cream soups and they were like heaven compared to canned. There's a bariatric app that I like that has some recipes and one was for broccoli soup. But yes, I hate everything too. I like the more fun flavors of light Greek yogurt like cheesecake and I mix in a little of my cabot whey power for more protein but it's still sweet. My problem is that I AM still hungry after surgery. I think it may be going away but I have hunger pangs when I shouldn't. I can have eggs and blended stuff like tomorrow but I have snuck eggs and blended chicken. Ok, 1 egg.
  5. Soooo... I hate everything on the full liquid diet. I'm not ever hungry but if I were, nothing tastes good. Any recommendations? Jello, yogurt, pudding and popsicles are too sweet. Cream soups are... yuck. I'm allowed grits which are decent. Taste a little weird after surgery. I hate that my taste buds have changed! I didn't believe anyone when they said it could happen. Eating post op

Mine was April 25 and I've not been hungry. Forcing myself to drink protein shakes and today, I added yogurt. I was told after two weeks, I could introduce soft foods...eggs, tuna, etc.
  7. Thank you so much for your response. .. never thought of mixing protien with yogurt....great tip... I was a bit confused if it was head hunger or if my body was actually needing the extra fuel....I just realized today I was leg pressing 6 45kg plates for my heavy set... somewhere around 600lbs... no way body I'd screaming at me.. thanks again... any tips for water retention? Post op diet help

After surgery I was restricted to full liquids for the first 4 weeks and then pureed foods for the next 4 weeks and then after week 9 solid foods. But I was not given a menu but rather a list of items that counted as full liquids. Full liquids were items with a pudding like consistency, such as cream of wheat, cream or rice, oatmeal, farina, instant mashed potatoes, unsweetened applesauce, sugar free pudding, yogurt, and other items. So they gave me choices that I could experiment during this initial stage rather than a strict menu.
  9. i just roasted some thin sliced carrots w tiny bit of olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic,& onion powder til real soft.i chopped up sm after.i fried some 93./. lean grnd beef but u could do grnd turkey or chicken.i added about a Tb of worcheshire sce,Tb of tom paste, tsp low sodium soy sce,1/2 cup of red wine,1 cup of low sodium bf or chkn broth, some more garlic & onion powder, salt & pepper & simmered 15 mins, then added my carrots bk in along w 1 c of frozen peas thawed.then i poured into a sprayed glass pie plate or 8by 8 dish.then u can either do cauliflower mashed pots or since i could have real mashed pots but i didnt have time so i made some instant ones but i used low sodium chkn broth instead of water, added at least an extra 1/2c of pot flakes for more flavor, skim milk & some light margarine & i put a Tb of lite deans frnch onion dip but u dont have to do that or u could use lite sour crm or lowfat greek yogurt to make creamy & salt & pepper to taste.after i stirred that up i added in a scoop of protein powder, unflavored ,& an egg yoke, mixed up & spread over top & baked about 30 mins on 350 or til lightly golden & top w some parsley flakes.u can puree ur serving but i personally couldnt stomach anything but soup pureed,so i just mashed w my fork & it was the most satisfying.i also made a yummy ricotta bake & layered that & low sugar red sauce over soft steamed zucchini & squash.i made a lowfat, sugar free pumpkin custard.u could do a lowfat,lo carb cheeseburger pie ,an eggbake casserole,or spaghettii squash augratin or lite alfredo.i have roasted acorn squash halves & u can make sweet or savory.i could go on & on,lol some things may be too rich for u or cause heartburn,i was fine though.just depends on what u can have on ur plan.
  10. You need protein, clearly. I have the same hunger every 2-2.5 hrs. It’s real hunger, your body needs protein. I always give it fat with the protein. I take a kid’s lunchbox with me on the go, with a freezer pack in it and tiny metal containers with my unflavored, unsweetened whey protein powder mixed with full fat plain no flavor Greek yogurt. It doesn’t actually taste good so it is eaten for protein and satisfying the hunger ONLY. Breakfast and dinner at home I will choose tasty food. But mid days I only wish to shut up the hunger and keep on keeping on. i am losing slower than you, only 53 lbs in 9 mos. but that is ok. And I don’t walk nearly as much as you though I love weights too.

    3 weeks post sleeve

I was sleeved 4/10 and I'm on soft/pureed there's no way i could put down 5oz much less in 5 min. Today i had 1 egg for breakfast, a slice of deli Turkey and a small piece of cheese for lunch, and 2tbsp of yogurt for snack. i can get down 2tbsp of food as long as i take small bites and go slow. I would slow down on the intake 3weeks out your stomach is still healing i would be afraid of eating to much and creating a leak.

    3 weeks post sleeve

I am 5 months post-op and am struggling to get over 800 calories a day.. nutrirtionist told me I should be consuming 1100-1200 calories a day.. I can eat a 5oz yogurt in one sitting too but it takes me 25 min or so to eat it.. once I’m too full I get hiccups. I would just try to eat slower if I were you. There are times I feel like my stomach can hold more too but I definitely don’t over indulge like I used to!
  13. I am eating roughly 1100 calories a day. Is this normal I feel as if I have stretched my stomach already. I Followed the diet, and started eating soft solids, but I feel that I can eat too much comfortably. I have not experienced any issues like most others. I don’t have to eat slowly as I am able to eat fast with no problems. i can eat a 5 oz yogurt in one setting in probably 5 minutes. I have lost 12 lbs in 3 weeks. I believe that i will be the exception. I’m terrified right now I think I am eating too much. anyone have this problem or am I the only 1?

    IM STARVING

I know I sound crazy but I had my vsg Monday 4/23 and today I’m sooooo hungry since I’ve woke up. I’ve already had my protein shake, half of my premier clear protien drink, 8 oz of beef broth, and yogurt. Also plenty of water in between. Why is my stomach constantly growling at me? I don’t feel full or sick after eating any of these items. I can start eating soft foods this coming Tuesday, I just feel like I need something that is going to make me feel a little fuller for a little longer. I so badly want to try softer foods now. [emoji21]
  15. OMgosh, 20 grams of protein in one meal - yikes! I looked at my log and the most I've ever gotten from "real food" was 12, and that was yogurt! On solid food (other than protein bars which I now use for breakfast), the most I've ever hit was 9!

    Purée Meals

Here's a day for me: Breakfast: 1/4 cup malt-o-meal or oatmeal made with skim milk mid-morning: 1/2 protein shake lunch: cottage cheese with applesauce, refried beans with cheese, cream soup (1/4 cup) mid-afternoon: 1/2 protein shake dinner: chicken and mashed potatoes with a bit of gravy, tuna and a mushy vegetable (carrots, peas) if needed: greek yogurt, SF pudding with protein powder (1/4 cup) I got a sample meal plan from my nut and have been following that---it's been plenty of food, even though it seems like such a tiny amount! The protein shake helps me hit my protein goal.

    Pureed phase help

Congrats on moving up! Rule is protein first, veggies, etc. if you have room. And this early, they're really not worried about the quantities of stuff, they just want your stomach to get used to the new textures to see if you can handle them. Most of your nourishment should still be coming from liquids/yogurt, etc.
  20. Tuna or chicken salad with lite mayo was suggested to me. I'm not at that stage yet, but I'm ready for it! I'm still on purees---last night I took some canned chicken breast and mashed it up with a bit of BBQ sauce. Added some peas and it was plenty! Yogurt is another option

1 year 5 months after Bypass

Wow this is so helpful. I am so scared about what to eat (my surgery will be in late June) and your post made me feel less stressed. I also love my Greek yogurt and knowing that has worked for you, made me feel a comfort level. I would hope I can so the same as you and continue to enjoy all kinds of food in smaller portions once I am on maintenance.

    Special treats

To paraphrase Katy Perry I ate some home-frozen with Mio yogurt And I liked it😝
  23. I am now at 1 year 5 months after my Gastric Bypass. This journey wasn't easy but I have been at my goal weight 150lbs now for over 5 months (highest weight 287). I'm getting insurance approval for my panniculectomy and breast reconstruction. Then my journey will be complete. I feel amazing!! Still experimenting with most foods and never afraid to try new foods all the time. Posted are my before & after pics. Insurance DOES pay for Panniculetomy & reconstruction breast LIFT (not augmentation) so I am very happy about that!! I didn't read or follow all the diets online. I knew my body and paid attention to how i felt and made my own diets. First 4 months after surgery Yoplait greek 100 protein yogurt was my best friend and I still eat 3 a day! they are so smooth not gritty like other greek yogurts. I eat everything from Steak to pizza. (just very small amounts chewed VERY well) I have not gained any weight back and am looking forward to my plastic surgery so I can look as good on the outside as I feel on the inside. IF anyone is scared or have any questions about anything feel free to e-mail me sjohnson4021 at yahoo.com

  25. I'm closing in on five months out. I eat 1000-1200 calories a day. Typically, in six little meals that are about 1/2 cup or so in volume. If I eat a slider food (yogurt, oatmeal, cottage cheese) my volume might be a little more, but I go slow. You might consider switching your white rice out for brown rice. It's more nutritious and will cause less of an insulin spike...and less rebound hunger. Did you have sleeve or RNY?
