So EVERY TIME I get a stomach ache I worry that there is a problem with my band or a problem that can lead to it having to come out! I am almost 8 months out from my band surgery and 3 months out from having my Gall Bladder removed. About 3 weeks after my GB was removed I started getting a burning sensation in my stomach every now and again. It never comes up like acid reflux but just makes me uncomfortable all day. Then I stress about if this is a problem with my band or could it be a result of bile constantly dripping into my intestines??? Did I eat something that did not agree with me. Should I call the surgeon or my PCP?? I guess I worry a bit more since I was self-pay and if this had to come out, I would not be able to afford to have a different surgery.

Tired of worrying about band problem!
outside*looking*in replied to outside*looking*in's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Went to the doc today and he suspects Gastritis. He put me on Pepcid daily and a follow up in 2weeks. If I continue to have symptoms in that 2 weeks he is going to do an endoscope. He says at 8cc in a 9cc band I am pretty tight. I don't feel it like I have seen others describe. I don't get stuck, I don't pb/slime. I can still eat my 5oz of food at each meal and not feel full but mostly satisfied. I asked if developing an ulcer meant that the band had to come out (which I have read on other post) and he said no. That it will be treated the same as treating someone without the band (relief). So, I hope the pepcid helps the irritation in my stomach (I have not had actual reflux) just a dull burning sensation. -
Surgery day was Tuesday 2/26...gas pains were terrible and I had a few waves of nausea. They kept me one more night since I was having issues with pain and not drinking enough. Finally was discharged this morning. My left side is killing me...surgeon said that is the biggest one and the one where my stomach was pulled through so he said its gonna hurt the worst. He's right! Lol. Hows everyone else from this week doing?

Dear Gretal; No one feels restricted after just 1 fill. It takes a series of fills over months to get to that restricted zone.. Some refer to as their "sweet spot" Where yu can only eat 1 - 1.5 cups of food at a meal... 800-1000 cals per day.. Bread should get stuck, pizza , Pasta... doughy stuff ya know... if you ARE able to eat the above foods then you probably are NOT restricted enough and need another fill. I was banded in July and had my 1st fill Aug 29 5 cc's. then a couple weeks later I got 2 cc's, then later .75 cc, then last week .50 cc.. so total in 8.25cc's in a 10 cc band. Be patient, and get appts to get more fills.

Congrats to both! I just sent off my 6 months worth of supervised diet visits at PCP along with psych & nut consult info to my surgeon's office. They should submit to BCBS this week. Maybe I will get approved soon and be celebrating with y'all -
Emotional roller coaster
blizair09 replied to SleeveMeAlone214's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't struggle with drug or alcohol addiction, but I wanted to reach out and tell you how brave you are for telling your story and looking for support. I can't imagine dealing with these food issues we all face on top of maintaining sobriety. It is a lot to handle, for sure. In the food realm, the "one day at a time" approach has served me well in this journey. I used that strategy to get me started in March, and although I am firmly rooted in what I am doing now, I try to embrace that mindset when the scale is pissing me off or I have to face any of the occasional obstacles that present themselves. The fact that I have now lost 124 pounds is comforting no matter what happens in a day. As you lose more weight, that will comfort you, too. I encourage you to find something non-food related that is fun and makes you happy and get out there and do it. I go to the spa every day, and that has helped me as I move into the final stages of my recovery before I go back to work in a couple of weeks. Also, lean on your husband. I lean on my partner every day, as he leans on me. That's one of the most important parts of relationships. I wish you all the best! -
Hallelujah, it's finally happening!
AnnMarie23 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my WLS on August 23rd and was not losing any weight. Pre Op I was 311 and stalled for about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks out with minimal weight loss. It was the weirdest thing, almost over night I started having great progress and am now at 291. So, for anyone out there who is experiencing what I did, have faith! this will also happen for you. There is a lot of great advice and good people on this forum, listen to them. AnnMarie -
Waiting for Insurance Approval
doingitforme29 replied to DaisyBell's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well today I had a consult with a surgeon who specializes in bariatrics. I was weighed in at 229 lbs and a height of 5'4, which makes my BMI 39.3. Firstly, I've always been measured at 5'3. The surgeon stated I was a great candidate for the lapband procedure but stated my insurance would not pay because my bmi isn't 40. He stated my insurance requires my BMI to be 40 or 35 (with a co-morbidity) for the past three years. He did not see what could be done to help me qualify nor did he request to retrieve my medical records from my pcp or other physicians. I immediately contacted my insurance company and they stated they do not have to have pre authorization, but there's a possibility they may request info in the future and if they find it was not medically necessary, they would withdraw the benefit. My insurance company gave me the info for a doctor who has a 98% approval rate. I do not have any comorbidites other than asthma, very infrequent menstrual cycles, and infrequent high blood pressure. I spoke with the staff at the doctor's office my insurance company referred me to and she was very optimistic about being able to help get me approved. I prayed before I went in the doctor's office asking God to reveal the best option to me, I can't help but wonder if I'm going against God's answer to my prayer by seeking approval through another physician. Having this surgery is very important to me. It's something I have desired to do for the past three years. I really want this. I know of a lady who has the sleeve and was denied twice before she received approval. How often do people get approved after being denied. I wasn't denied by my insurance company. The doctor simply didn't try seek approval from my insurance. The moment the calculated my BMI and saw that it was 40, they were pushing me to finance the procedure. Advice anyone. What should I do? How do I get my insurance to pay? -
Hi guys, I was sleeved on Dec 14. On puréed foods now which I've been tolerating. Started New whey about a week ago and 5 days in, started getting very sharp gas pains making it hard to move. Dr's office said to back off the New Whey, which I have, but now the other Protein drinks are giving me the same problem (and I've been tolerating them since day 2) So I'm not getting much protein in at all. Is this something that subsides? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Is Curves workout a good way to gain muscle?
Coachdk replied to soonerorlater's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used to own two Curves locations. Curves can give a good workout, IF you put lots of energy into it. The resistance is greater the faster you move. Owners should move machines around to vary the workout. Locations with Zumba and the Smart machines give a better workout. If you are a social person who is motivated by getting to know the people you exercise with and like games, conversation , etc it can be a great experience. We even had a Bariatric doc give all his patients a three month membership. However, that said, if you are really looking to stretch yourself and love the idea of intense, challenging exercise...well, that isn't Curves. So, like most everything else...Curves can meet some people's needs...but not everyone's. -
I'm soooo excited but nervous at the same time. Found out Mon. Insurance approved my surgery. been calling the drs office all week they say they will call me back then don't. hoping to hear from them soon the recepionist said i just need to schedule my surgery so i really don't know why i have to talk to a certain person who is always in surgery when i call. Maybe they have to discuss other things with me???

Day 5 Post-Op & Drank Slim Fast Today
DirtyHarriett replied to MississippiQueen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't say you were screwed, but slim fast? Have a quality protein drink if you must. Clear liquids are the hardest phase ever. I was on protein shakes, sf pudding and cream of soups at five days. I am two weeks tomorrow and getting to have some puréed. Woot! -
1 Year Out & have been same weight since 5 Months out!
Pbit posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Went into Surgery 1 year ago at 215 lbs. Have been 165 lbs. since 5 months out. Clothes fit the same too. I exercise 3-4 times a week, and follow all rules; except I have incorporated sugar back into my diet. It does not make me sick. Mostly Dove Dark chocolate squares; I used to be happy and satisfied with 2, but now I can (want to) eat 6. I have also dabbled in Desserts brought into work and at parties. Thinking I would only eat a bite or two, but then I eat like 2 or 3 cupcakes, brownies, or pieces of pie. Ugh.... Anyone else having these issues? Cannot imagine this is what has stalled my weight loss for the past 7 months?? Just not sure. My Surgeon thinks I should get down to 140-145 pounds, I am 5' 3". I feel good at my current weight, just cannot accept it yet. If I am this weight at 18 months out, then I will accept it. -
Size small?! Who is this woman whose body I inhabit?
terry1118 replied to terry1118's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dress came this week. Petite small was perfect! Yesterday I was looking for some capris for my trip and actually fit into a size 6!!!! I'm sure they just ran a little big because I'm an 8 in everything else, but it was an ego boost nonetheless! :-) -
My story! Also, feel free to critique post-op diet please.

hey sprint, i had surgery with dr.ortiz on april 2nd we missed eachother by two days. The entire experience was great basically how you mentioned. I remember the nutritionist saying if you can't drink it don't eat it for the first few weeks b/c if your stomach has to break something down it moves and affects the band healing in place. But if you feel ready i guess then do what works, i know i wouldn't dare at this point. I don't want to risk something not healing well and it costing me unecessary $$. Why dont you call her on monday and tell her about the cottage chesse and egg salad? Good Luck! -

It took my port incision 6 weeks to close all the way. The bump is probably your port. -

I too am 10 years out. I was getting hungry, gained about 35-40 lbs. then, I started watching some documentaries about our food supply like "food, Inc.", "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead" ....all on Netflix. Anyway, it changed everything . I bought a Vitamix, and now I 'drink' 6-8 servings of fruits and veggies 5-7 days per week in green smoothies. I lost 40 lbs and have kept it off for over a year...I don't crave a lot of the stuff I used to, and don't count calories or anything like that. My weight before gastric bypass was 344, and I hover around 176-182 now, which is just where I want to be. Best wishes!!

New! Forum for stall talk and support called "Don't sweat the Stall stuff"
Travelmego posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just letting everyone know there is a new forum for stall talk and support! It is called, "Don't sweat the Stall stuff." You can find it here: http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/1102-dont-sweat-the-stall-stuff-new/ -
I had my first fill yesterday. I had contemplated not having one because I have not felt any hunger between meals and have to remind myself to eat. That is until this week! I had been walking on my own and the weight loss had slowed down once I went back onto regular foods. However, slow and steady was fine. This week, I started with a personal trainer and I noticed a HUGE difference in getting hungry around meal times. I went from struggling to get in 700 calories a day. My doctor actually told me I would have to increase my calories due to the amount of exercise. Got to give the body some fuel! So I gladly chose to take my first fill. Back on liquids for a couple of days, but I am anxious to see if I can balance out this fill with my new exercise regime.

The First Day of the rest of my Life!
crosswind replied to ******'s topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm the same way! All I've been able to think about since I got sleeved is all the stuff I want to do now that I either believed I was too fat to do or actually *was* too fat to do. Ride a horse, ride a bike, go on a cruise, do more travelling, go to High School reunions, start doing Pilates again -- alll alllowed after two three or six months. I blew off the surgery emotionally entirely. But now that it's past me, recovery and weight loss both seem like they're going to take FOREVER. Hey remember something for me. When you switch up eating stages, curb that enthusiasm. Seems like every time I moved up a stage I started having problems, but they were my own fault. More Impatience! -
Hang in there it will get better. It is only two weeks out of your life. You are losing and not gaining that is great. I know it is hard on that stage but it will get better. I am 11 weeks post op and it is worth the trouble you go through in the beginning. Why are you thirsty you should be able to drink all you want? I don't know if you are a praying person but I prayed that God would take the hunger away. I will be praying for you Suz1! keep us updated.

recommended calories 3 mo, 6 mo, 9 mo etc after sleeve
Forsythia replied to Jeffrey Eliot's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also try to keep a 40/30/30 ratio for protein/carbs/fat. Don't always succeed though. I was told by my NUT to be eating between 800 and 1200 calories per day. I go to the lower end on non workout days, the higher end on workout days. I try to work out 4 to 5 days a week (again, that 5 days doesn't always happen because life gets in the way sometimes. LOL!). I Swim for 45 minutes or so twice a week, do cardio/ heavy weights twice a week and take one class called body works plus abs (which amounts to a fast and light weights) class once a week.
