Liquid Vitamins?

I didnt even think about getting liquid Tylenol, thanks for that! Is it true we shouldn't have Ibuprophen after surgery because it causes stomach pains? I heard a gal talking about it. Im going to check out that Protein Powder. Thanks for your advice as well!!!!
  3. Cool, I'll take a look for those next time I'm in - sounds really useful for an emergency tea option
  4. While I understand your frustration, I think being weak/tired and vomiting a couple of times is not a good enough reason to be off of work. I know people have said "I needed the whole six weeks off after surgery" or "I wish I would have taken more time off after surgery"; I just can't help but wonder, why? I know people who have had major back surgery, sliced open, in the hospital for 3-4 days that don't need more than a couple of weeks off from surgery. I have known a couple of people who have had brain surgery that didn't take an entire month off from work; it is hard for me to understand why needing more than 2-3 weeks after WLS is needed. *shrug* Being weak is part of the process, it gets better and you have to dedicate yourself to getting in enough fluids, Protein and a full night's rest or you'll always be weak/sleepy/sick to your stomach. It won't ever go away. You have to take on the mindset of "the only way I am going to feel better is if I am up walking, getting in my fluids, getting in my protein, taking my Vitamins, overcoming my discomfort and getting back into routine." This by no means should be translated as "push yourself harder" no, it means "work through the minor complications to keep yourself from running into major ones."

    Could use some ideas

I agree with the previous posting that yogurt is pretty good and Yoplait Greek 100 has a lot of protein and good flavors. Also ensure active high protein has 19 grams of protein and vanilla and chocolate flavors so you can add to your diet. The ensure is 8oz so you don't have to worry about drinking a whole lot. If you could tolerate a egg drop soup that's loaded with protein. You can try making your own. Feel better soon.

    Surgery today in mexico

Well, I am not getting enough of anything in. I am struggling to get enough liquid and protien in. 30-35 oz is the most I have gotten in on any day. And until today 20 gems protien. Though today I have gotten 30 gr protein in. But my liquids have suffered. Fortunately I have not been tired or anything.

    Surgery today in mexico

Haha you are a poster child for this Pas! My doc says that getting all the fluids and Protein in takes a couple of weeks and for me he was right. On another note, Panera Bread will also serve you just the broth from their chicken noodle Soup. Its pretty good lol.

    Surgery today in mexico

You are doing so awesome!! When you say you are having trouble getting the liquid in, is it due to the restriction, the taking the time to do it, or does it cause you pain or discomfort to drink?? I am just 4 days post-op and not having problems getting the liquid in. I have tried different temps and different flavors to give me some variety. Protein, I am not doing as well, but trying to get in as much as I can. Congrats on the 28 lbs!!!:becky: :hippie:
  9. Continental sometimes includes yoguart.......or just bring your own. Or make a protein shake and bring it to the breakfast.........if anyone asks, it is a protein shake, 'nuff said. Steakhouse. I traveled about 2.5 wks post surgery. Soup should be on the appy menu, alot of places have a pasta option. I remember ordering pumpkin ravioli, I then cut out all the 4 edges of the ravioli and put it to the side, and ate the inside........purees pumpkin with a little of the pasta on the top and bottom. There was more pasta on the side of my plate than what I ate. Personally, I would eat before dinner and order soup as your main............if these people do not know of the surgery, I would just say you aren't feeling great soup is what you prefer.

    Pre-Surgery Weight Gain - Help!

Mine was 2 Protein shakes a day and one meal with 3oz lean protein and all the vegetables I wanted prepared with no extra fats. No breads, crackers, Pasta, etc. I can make a really filling salad with lots of veggies and 3 oz lean protein!! I lost 13 lbs in 2 weeks.
  11. Is that what a pre- op diet is? Protein shakes 3 times a day? I have no clue. Thank you!
  12. Hey, were surgery twins. I got sleeved same day. Try flavor in ur Water, maybe lemon. I use TRUE LEMON was on my nut list. Its crystallized lemons, no sugar. I've always hated water. My nut also approved a splash of juice in my water, no more than 1oz. It works great n helps me get more water in Im already on phase 3 but was able to have chicken n tuna on puree stage so that helps w Protein count. Try app called protein tracker, blue icon with white dumbbell. CW 218 VSG 1/6/2017 SW 242 GW 140 Woohoo ...summer 2017 here we come ????
  13.
Hello Everyone. I was interested in gastric bypass but after doing research, I don't want it at all. The lap band looks like a good option, at least from everything I've read so far anyway. The problem is my insurance doesn't cover it and I don't have a lot of money.

I've been overweight since I was about 20. Several years ago I exercized really hard and lost 50 pounds over a few months. But I've gradually gained it all back plus, and now I weigh about 350. I've recently started getting chronic lower back pain. It seems like the least effort makes me sweat... Needless to say, it's no fun.

What I want to know is, where can I get a quality lap band surgery at the lowest price? I live in OR. I am willing to travel to Mexico but if there's a place of comperable price here in the US, I'd rather go there. The sites advertising lap band surgery in Mexico sound good. But I'd really like to hear from those of you who got it done there recently and a year or so ago. Did they do a good job? Where did you go? What Dr.? How much did it cost?

If anyone got it done locally in OR, where did you get it done? If it was covered, what insurance do you have?

Another concern I have is about obstruction. A few months after you get the surgery and you're back on solid food, what happens if you eat a bite of something like meat that doesn't easily dissolve with water and you forget to chew that one bite really well? Will it almost definately obstruct the band?

Does anyone know if medicare will cover lap band surgery?

Sorry this is so long and thanks ahead of time to those who respond!

Emily

  14. Mexico is a great option. Just make sure you do your homework. Don't just shop price. I wanted a surgeon that does surgery in a hospital and not a clinic. Most importantly look at the surgeons credentials. I had my surgery with Dr. Valencia in Tijuana. The cost was $8,100. He also does surgery in Ensenada for $8000. He is a professor of bariatric surgery at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). That was the main that reason that I chose him. When you start eating solid food, if it gets stuck you will PB or throw it up. It sounds worse than it is. You have to take small bites and chew very well. Sometime we forget but you'll learn after a little while.
  15. I agree with all that said getting into something I do tend to forget to eat , and at work it is really hard I don't even get to drink my water like I should because I am constantly standing , but I work for 4 hrs. then it is lunch time then I go back and work for my other 4 hrs. and usually I don't even get my breaks like I am suppose to , and by the time I have lunch or dinner I feel like I am famished but I know not to over do it on the eating but I get my drink on then maybe a protein shake then lot's of water, I have heard y stomach say look please put something in so I try to do something small at that time then it's back to whatever.
  16. Hi all! I am going to Brisbane (from the USA) to help get my son situated in college next week. I am on the pureed stage and wonder what Protein shakes you have and where do you get them from?
  17. I never realized how much of a real addiction food was until now. I'm not hungry at all but yet I'm always thinking about food. Always.. Foods I wish I could eat right now. Foods that sound do good!! Constantly thinking about what I could possible get away with eating and cheating on my post op diet. I don't cheat though. I just sit here and sip my protein shake and water and daydream. I feel ridiculous.
  18. I know you wrote a lot but to make this short i felt the same about the protein shakes and then i found the Atkins pre-made ones. There are many flavors but the Dark Chocolate is awesome it takes away the after taste completely. Try them. The more protein u take in the quicker you'll lose.
  19. Im 10 weeks out - only lost 29 lbs total (yes, I know thats alot more than I would without the surgery, but its still not alot considering I had surgery). I feel lightheaded many times throughout the day, everyday. Water is still hard for me - I get about 55 oz of my 64 required oz a day I get about 70g of protrein on average Calories are around 800 - food goes down easily, but I stick to 5 - 4oz meals a day I take a 30 min walk about every other day or so So yes, more water, more Protein, more exercise, but could that small of a deficit be causing my constant stalls and lightheadedness? Has anyone else had these issues? Help and advice please, no ridiculing - Im having a hard enough time keeping my head up right now. Thanks!

    New to Sleeve

Hey Bud, Don't get discouraged! You are less than two weeks post-op. I lost 10 lbs on my pre-surgery diet and gained back every ounce thanks to the intravenous fluids I had in the hospital. My husband said my tummy was the biggest he had ever seen it in the first days following surgery. You have had your entire abdomen traumatized, and your body is rushing resources to it to aid in healing. It no different from the swelling you have with a sprained ankle or busted lip. I don't know if you would do better with a scale or not. I personally know that I need one. I have done very well, but I don't lose every week, much less every day--even at the first. This is not a 50 yard dash, it is a marathon. And unless you are planning a vacation to Maui in a couple of weeks, there are no deadlines or "use by" dates for losing after surgery. You will get to eat real food before you know it. I remember being hungry while on the liquid stage and my Protein shakes were nauseating. I'm so glad to have that behind me. But I have been amazed that hunger is not really an issue for me. But, the caveat is that I didn't get to 280 lbs by eating because I was hungry. So even the lessening and hunger, while a great gift, does not solve all of my eating problems. Concentrate now on healing, resting, moving, drinking, and you will lose! But even better than the scale moving, you will begin to feel so much better. If you are like me, it takes a while for your clothes to show the loss because they were pretty tight to begin with. And those lumps and bumps didn't come on us overnight and they won't disappear overnight. I will pray for you and wish you well! You have taken the first big step in a long and wonderful journey, as have I.
  21. My weight just slowed. I reached my goal & thought yay but I kept losing. So I slowly increased my calories as I was able hoping to slow it down. Some of the increased calories came as I was physically able to eat more - eventually more like a regular portion size. I also added snacks. I was still seeing my dietician so I worked through suggestions with her. I added two more serves of carbs (whole/multi grains), another serve of fruit, nuts, hummus, peanut paste, chia pudding, protein bar, etc. My dietician also suggested adding milk powder to my milk to enrich it (for my rolled oats & chia pudding but I found it too sweet). When I reached goal I was eating about 900 calories. When I finally stopped losing (about 11 months later & a further 11 odd kilos down) I was up to 1300. Now I eat about 1500 to maintain at about a kilo or so heavier weight. And yes I still snack a few times a day.
  22. The liquid diet is hard. especially the first couple days. I think it's because our bodies are not use to receiving just liquids. it helps it you get a variety of shakes and soup broths. someone on here told me about isopure at a vitamin shop. its high in protein and it taste like flavored water.
  23. i'm also on a diet that restricts meat - i wondered the same thing, but have elected to just follow my doctor's requirements so that when i show up next thurs for surgery i'm good to go. i wonder if maybe part of it is that the Protein Shake can deliver the protein in a leaner way? less calories, fat, cholesterol, etc?
  24. I ate the toddler meat sticks, chicken and turkey.. Very soft and was tasty and had good protein
  25. I'm one month post op and by week 2 I was hungry but once I drank a protein shake or ate cream soup the hunger was gone.
