Buy some clothes people...PROPERLY FITTING ONES! may help with body dysmorphic issues
sarsar replied to vogue's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I am right there with you on this! I am in a size 8, medium tops even some small. When my clothes are on and I'm covered and I look in the mirror I think I look ok. When the clothes come off and everything is hanging or when I am working out and skin is flopping around (even with the spanx) I see myself a lot bigger than I am. I want that tight body that fit people have, I feel like if I had that then I would see myself the same with or without clothes. I have an appointment for a plastics consult in a couple of weeks. I am anxious to see what he has to say. But, I would like to be content without plastics, too. I just don't know if I can get there. -
Can't believe it's only been five days and I am twelve pounds lighter! The next pound I loose I will ve under 300 pounds, and I havent been under 300 lbs in at least ten years. I am thinking that I need to reavaluate my weight loss goals for the first month. I had originally planned to lose fifteen for the month. As I have already lost 12 pounds in 5 days. At this rate I will reach my weightloss goal of the month in a week. Now I am not complaining one little but, it's just I am shocked on how much weight has come off so fast! I would like to hear more about peoples first months of weight loss to get a better idea of realistic weight loss goals. Right now I am just cycling twice a day, and walking but am considering th 25k in 9 weeks program....any thoughts.

My friend has the same problem, only hers is stress induced. She uses a product called H2Ocean, it is canned sea water that has been purified. SHe swears by it. The only place we can get it here is tattoo shops and Hot Topic, it is sold for aftercare for body piercing, but works great for skin problems. Hope this helps. ~Mandy

crwagpac98 replied to BigIron's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Dear BigIron, I have been going thru the posts trying to find someone I felt comfortable talking to and found you because I liked your story and felt I could talk to you. I have not had the band, but my 19 y/o son was banded on Monday 7/21/08 in WV. It was a really tough decision. He is in college and was already having problems with sleep apnea and reflux. The surgery took a long time and he was in so much pain that I wondered if we had made the wrong decision. I cried alot. However, today we are 2 days out and he is really feeling pretty good. Alot of pain in left shoulder but not bad. Takes advil during the day and only pain medicine when needed. I had alot of trouble getting him to take any fluids at all, but tonight he told me he was hungry. He ate about 3 bites of NS jello and was full. My question and problem is that he is in college and when he goes back to school I wonder and worry about what he will do. My father died really young of heart disease and my son already has hypertension and high cholesterol. I hope we did the right thing and he really wants to loose the weight. His doctor told us that this is no different than if he had cancer or diabetes and we had to make a drastic change to save his life. I understand this, but am really going back and forth. I just wanted to talk to someone to get some advise and I saw that you have had so much success. Anyway, I just wanted to say hi and talk to someone who had been through this. Thanks alot! Robin -
My 2 yr is quickly approaching and I must say this surgery has changed my life! I've never been so happy in all my life. I am at a plateau now and would like to lose 20 more pounds but don't know if that is possible. At this point I feel having excess skin removed is the only way to accomplish that. I need support or advice from someone in the same boat on what to do about the final pounds! I am starting to think it won't be possible as I've already lost almost 150 pounds. Hey! Coops here... I am still trying to get to goal at over 3 years out... don't worry you are not alone in this adventure. Now, I haven't lost a pound in 21 mths... despite my trying and trying, but what I have lost is 2 dress sizes in that time! Weird right? Goal is absolutely relative... and what might be right for you may be wrong for someone else. I've been told by many that I shouldn't lose anymore... ha! Wrong! I know I look better than I did 3 years ago, and I am so much more healthier and fitter that I have been in over 20 years, but now I want to LOOK as good as I FEEL! So I refuse to give up! I had a TT in March and that really has helped me not only by getting rid of the excess skin, but also by realising the huge achievement that I have committed to... although I am not at goal, I have not regained either - so my position is kinda bitter sweet. I suppose every cloud has a silver lining and all that jazz. My advise to you; take stock of what you HAVE achieved in that last 13-14 mths. Don't pressure yourself because your body won't like it! Remember, there is no expiry date on the sleeve and that is one thing I am determined to prove! All the best and never give up!

GotItDoneInHarlem replied to vincereautmori's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Besides the obvious amazing weight loss I've had (80 pounds since December 3rd) I have changed in the following ways.... *My life doesn't revolve around food anymore *I am more confident *I no longer take 2 blood pressure pills or a cholesterol pill *I am in a relationship after hiding from others for years *I have more money *I have more energy *I spend more time with family and friends *I sleep better *My back doesn't hurt every day *Sex is back *I look younger *I feel younger *My skin is better *I enjoy shopping for clothes *I just FEEL better This and so many more things. Like almost EVERYONE on this site, my only regret is waiting as long as I did. -

Hi y'all... I had a fill a 3 weeks ago and boy can I feel it. I can barley eat anything. Maybe a 1/2 of food and I'm full and I get the hiccups. I drink Water all day long and make good food choices. Here's the thing....I haven't lost a damn pound in 2 weeks. I'm so frustrated and don't understand how this is at all possibe. This is the worst i've felt since I had the surgery 8 months ago. I'm stressing about this day and night. I called my doc and they said they'd like to see me for an apt and if i'm doing eveything I say I am I should be loosing weight. So anyone out there been through this? Why am I not dropping the pounds and what do I need to change? Please help I feel like a failure. :help:

Hey roxanne, it sounds like your on your way nicely. I feel the same way, I gained it slow and I think loosing it a little slower will be a little more healthy for me. But I am anxious to loose, and will have to keep reminding myself...(slow is good)... ~Bill

I don't need a tummy tuck but do need a thigh lift insurance coverage pending and they won't do a breast lift not big enough for a breast reduction but I was wondering does everyone who gets plastic surgery pay out of pocket or did insurance cover any of the cost really can't afford to pay but need liposuction breast lift and total lower body lift kind of dissapointed lost weight and left with a mess of flabby ugly skin and droooopy boobs go figure.

There is a procedure called a panniculectomy that removes the excess skin. Most insurances will cover this because of the infections that happen between the folds of skin. I googled it and found some really interesting articles.

Actually, I graduated from high school in 1980 and I honestly remember our clothes being relatively modest. The Annie Hall look was big. Skirts tended to hit just below the knee and tops were blousy and loose. I remember having some pretty outre platform shoes, but otherwise we dressed pretty conservatively. Slit skirs came in around my junior year, but even they weren't too sleazy. And when I hit college, the Izod-Calvin Klein prep look was in. God knows I fought with my parents over everything else, but clothes seldom came up because there just wasn't much to fight about.

I'm not yet convinced that clothes now are that much more horrible than when I was growing up. Girls now wear skin tight jeans, but we wore "biker shorts" and a wide concoction of lycra/spandex leggings. You don't get much tighter than those. Girls now wear belly shirts, we used to wear those elastic tube tops or 4-strap halters. Girls now wear daisy dukes, and we used to wear the equally short gym ("ball hugger") shorts. I never wore platforms, but I did wear clogs. I had a bikini (cactii, sunsets and cowboys) in elementary school, as did all my friends. It seems like we're just seeing the updated versions of the same old things. What I think has changed, is the intention behind the clothing. Why I wore those things, and why a girl today wears her versions, are probably very different OTHER than the basic "it's what people wear" that grabs at ALL kids. I know that when my 10ish y/o cousin was showing me her new school clothes, she asked, "Do I look sexy?" Clothing companies will only produce what people will buy. There's a much larger issue than what's on the shelves.

10 Month Post opp and stuck, (pics)
kimmcneely replied to kimmcneely's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you all for the wonderful comments. I know I will start losing again. I do exercise at least 3 times a week, usually more. I have been going to the gym for over 2 years and have lost a total of 94 lbs since Jan of '04. (I can remember because that is when I met my husband and decided I needed to shed some pounds because I didn't want to die and have him find some other woman) I began this journey at over 250 lbs so I can keep going as long as it takes. I love to exercise and I do feel as though I am shrinking in sizes even if it isn't on the scale. I love being able to go and actually take a size 12 in the dressing room with me. Love it! Absolutely love it! Of course now, like most people who have dropped this much weight I would love to have some cosmetic surgery done. I am pretty sure that 75% of the weight I lost came from my breast because there is nothing left but skin and nipple. It would be nice to have the rearranged and full for once. The hardest thing for me to lose has been my thighs. They were huge and I have lost about 6 inches in each one but I still feel like they swing when I walk so I wouldn't mind having them reduced and having a tummy tuck as well. Due to a c-section with my son over 10 years ago I still have that little roll around my belly. I have gotten rid of most of that but that last one isn't going anywhere. I wear a girdle every day. It goes up to my breast and down to my knees. That allows me to look more shaplier and I like that. No jiggle when I walk. Anyhow, thanks for all the wonderful comments. Good luck to everyone. -
Kime don't be hard on yourself. You have lost 50 lbs in 6 months & that is awesome! You did a check on yourself & you know what you need to do to fine tune your lifestyle. So all you have to do is do it..... I do have a wabbit gun & I've been known to use it to kick butts, lol I started at 250 and it took 10 months to loose 73 pounds. You don't want to loose too fast and my doc warned me that the closer you get to goal the harder it is to loose. So it's a new year, chin up & lets rock this thing together. ~~hugs~~

Yes I have. It works for that day, like if your going out and would like to wear a sexy dress, it takes off a few inches and makes your skin feel soo soft, but its not permament. I heard its good to do body wraps every few weeks to help tighten skin. But unfortunantly I wouldnt kno if thats 100% true because I only did it once lol its too expensive for me to do it every 3 weeks..its cost like $85 for 1 treatment

Just Curioius about Excess Skin
dmg223 replied to jeeptrk03's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am 31 and was banded 6/8/11. I was concerned about the same thing and brought that up to my surgeon. He says that I am young and my skin should have very good elasticity so it shouldn't be a problem. I have started working out at the gym recently to help make sure I do not end up with a lot of excess skin as well. -
Staples, glue, or Steri-Strips?
RunningWithScissors replied to toofatnopants's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glue and those steri strip things for me too. It's 5 days post op for me and the steri strips are getting loose. The doctor said to just let them come off on their own. -

I had surgery a week ago and have only lost 2 lbs from day of surgery!! My doctor has me on clear liquids the first week and I have been perfect - getting over 60 ounces in without a problem and no cheating. I see all these posts about loosing a ton the first week and it's making me worried. Anyone who has been around for a bit care to weigh in here??
