    My AHA Moment today

I am a baby bandster (just 2+ weeks out). However, I am not a young pup... as I clock in at 52 years old. Believe it or not, I am just starting to figure out that stress eating is my trigger and downfall. This is the one thing that I absolutely need to get control of in my life.. Can anyone else relate.. Anyway.. I go into it all on my blog entry for today and my determination to control this personal challenge. Be well. Barbara

    Pain After Sugery

I was banded feb 6, 2012 and it took me about a month in a half to get rid of all the pain around the prot area. I relayy think it depends on each individual person. Some peoples bodys have a harder time accepting foreign objects than others..mine had a very hard time with it! Im ten weeks out and the only time i have trouble now is if i wear jeans that are to tight and push in on my port area. But its nothing extreme, its just uncomfortable. So i just dont wear those pants and dont have any problems lol! But like i said i think you will be fine before long. I was very concerned and even called my doctor multiple times asking if it was normal. He had me take tylenol ever 6 hours and that helped tremendously!
  3. im trying to give up meat i have been mostly meat free for 2 weeks its not as hard as i thought..any recipes would be great i feel lighter and more regular..i hope i dont fall off the wagon with thanksgiving coming up

    Pain after surgery

Which side is your port on? That could be what the pains from. Mine is on the left and I still have a lot of discomfort and I'm two weeks out

    I am getting neverous

Congrats, you are normal! I freaked out about half way through my 6 months of monitored diet - I had lost about 30 lbs and was changing a lot. I changed from RNY to sleeve at that point for several reasons, but one was to slow things down so I could adjust to the changes better. Then three weeks before surgery I started to really think hard about what was going on. And then a few days after surgery I had the "WTF have I done?" freak out. I'm way over all of it now. I'm down to 215ish and feeling great. I have more to lose, but I can shop in regular stores for the most part. I can borrow from my mom and my sister (almost). I can fit in an airline seat. Make your list of what your post-op goals are (beyond numbers). Think about your freedoms. You'll do great!

    Cant sleep.. Anyone ?

yes i have had the same problem. I am now (3 1/2 weeks post op) starting to sleep a little better.. hang in there i believe it will get better..
  7. No worry about sudden wt in first week it slows down sometimes to our dismay. Enjoy! And keep It up.
  8. Hoping to have my sleeve surgery in September at Lahey Clinic Hospital in Burlington, Ma. with Dr. David Brams if all goes well with my pre-op testing. I am excited! 70 years old, retired RN and ready to be done with this weight and how it gets in my way. Had thought I would only consider the band, since it is reversible, I thought...but after lots of research I found myself thinking I wanted to do this only once, that is have surgery only once and read myself into believing the gastric sleeve was the best option for me. The nurse practitioner, who went over my particular family history, agreed and so here I am...waiting...but not so nervous as I was a week ago. I am excited to have it and move forward. mojaleski from NH
  9. Out of control! I was doing so good on my diet with the nutritionist, lost 23 pounds as of 2 weeks ago.. surgery is in 13 days and it seems my appetite is crazy.. I have the feeling Ill be gaining it back by the time surgery is here... Ugh I guess its Im in the state of mind of thinking well I can just have this one more time.. one more time.. one more time... HELP!

    Watch the salt!

I'm having the dreaded 3 week stall! I hate it. It's very frustrating. Hopefully the scales will move soon. Being as we are able to eat so little you would think the sodium would no longer be an issue, but it is. Just ridiculous.
  11. I was banded a week ago and today have some mild heartburn should I be concerned ? Following all of the doctors pre op and I contacted the clinic but they haven't got back to me just curious
  12. I used to be a smoker and i was able to quit. A few weeks ago stress cauggt the best of me and i slipped up and smoked a few cigarettes!!! My surgery is scheduled this week and i don't know if i should cancel it or what!! I will be over a week out no smoking and as stated it was only a few. Everyone in my family thinks i will be ok but i wanted to get opinions on here, anyone have any thoughts?
  13. I'm so excited and nervous! Walking into my appointment today, I almost turned around! I was so nervous of the "what if's".... What if I'm too big for surgery... what if he thinks I'm not a good fit for the surgery I want... what if he looks at me and tells me I'm not trying hard enough with other options (my mom's suggestion: "Why don't you exhaust all of your other options first honey!") What if he likes everything and first surgery date avalible is in December... what if!!! Thankfully my husband was by my side and I'm too chicken to tell him "lets turn around and hide!" What if nothing! ***Happy "I'm getting surgery" dance!!!!**** (never thought I would be happy about going into surgery willingly! needles *cringe*) He approved me for surgery, he said two weeks of shakes/ less than 1,000 calories a day and surgery on June 13th!!! Bonus: Work is good with the days off, kids are going to hang with my mom and my honey is going to be by my side (he is my rock!) On a side note: The girls in my office are always having some sort of weight loss something going on... I think the current thing is $5 to weigh in each week for 6 weeks and at the end the "biggest loser" gets the "pot". They have always invited me to join in, but at twice their weight I've never been interested in everyone knowing my actual weight. Today they told me they didn't want me to join... that they all knew they would lose!! (this actually makes me happy!) Happy Tuesday everyone!
  14. I'm 2 weeks post op tomorrow, I still can't really get yogurt, applesauce, protein shakes etc down.. Just water & crystal light .. I still wake up with a feeling of wanting to throw up and sometimes when I go to bed but during the day for the most part I'm ok... Anyone else experience this ??

    So hungry

Am on week two post op and can start eatting real food tomorrow. I was not given a specific amount of calories to have daily. I am always hungry and taking in way too many carbs through potatoes that are mushy and easy to get down. I do not have my first fill for two more weeks. Help!! I am so afraid of stalling my weight loss and that has happened the past 3 days. Prior that I was losing at least 3 pounds a day for a total of 35 lost. I feels stuck and confused on what and how much to eat

    50 Baby!

In 12 weeks, I've hit my first big goal of losing 50 lbs! It has been a battle of discipline, but soooo worth it. After getting bloodwork done last week, Dr. says I'm not diabetic anymore and my blood pressure is normal! Also, I have stopped snoring, so I'm not using my CPAP regularly which has made me use less Ambien . Even with the pain, struggle, and stalls, I have to say it was ALL worth it. My journey is not over, and the next 25 lbs will be tough...but not impossible. Stay strong, stay focused, and stay positive!

    Lunch Ideas

Not sure if you have these in the US, but I enjoy having Vita Weat lunch Slices for lunch, especially when at work. http://www2.woolworthsonline.com.au/Content/ProductImages/big/705171.jpg Last week I had one of these with avocado, tuna and tomato. Any other suggestions on what I could top these with?

  20. Today is gonna be easy peasy! Ok so I am so sorry for all of you out there who have to do several weeks of liquids prior to surgery! My nut wants me doing high protein, low cal, low carb, no fat... I need at least 10 ounces of meat per day and up to 4 veg, 1 fruit, 3 starch, 0 fat. Yesterday I cooked all my chicken for the next 10 days. I cut bnls sknls chicken breast into 2 ounce strips (approx) Cooked them in the oven with some cooking spray. Next I put 5 strips in each ziplock bag. 7 in the freezer and 3 in the fridge. Went to the store last night and got Sargento low mozzarella string cheese. I also have V8 splash for my 1 serv of fruit and 1 of my veg servings. Vitamin Water Zero is my new fav drink since I quit Pepsi Max. I am also taking a women's multi-vitamin every morning. I will switch to a diff vitamin source the last couple days before surgery so that I will be used to it. I don't have a date yet but have submitted to fep blue for approval. After approval I want to be scheduled asap so I decided to go ahead and start the pre-op diet since it's not taking away any of my protein shakes I have stocked up for after surgery. I LOVE chicken and cheese so I think this is gonna be quite easy for me. I am not going to be eating much else. Going to a cook out Sunday but I will be taking my chicken, cheese stick, and vitamin water and avoiding the chips and soda!! I am super excited about the prospect of surgery in my near future!!! I am praying for an approval and a speedy one!! My children, friends, and most family know about my decision. My husband is SO supportive!! Alot more than I thought he would be. But he sees all the work I am putting into getting prepared mentally and physically. I have lost 30 pounds this year and I should include that in my ticker... Thinking I may change it. My mom was very skeptical at first but I sent her to vertical sleeve talk on FB and she started reading there and now she is so excited for me!! I am going to be BLOWING UP fed bcbs phone lines checking my status LOL I love reading this board!!!! I feel like I know so many of you and I have met a couple. You all are fantastic!!!
  21. Howdy all post ops! I will be 4 weeks post op RNY Wednesday. I continue to have a bugging pain/tenderness on the left, in the vicinity of the largest incision when I bend or twist. I asked my doctor about it and she keeps saying it's normal, but it doesn't feel normal after four weeks. The intensity hasn't changed, and I would think if it was healing it would. I did have an infection in my drain tube incision, it had to be drained and I was put on anabiotic's, it is cleared up now. Anyone else experienced this? Any ideas? Thanks! Sleeved aug. 26th...

I was sleeved on the 26th as well. Including pre op diet I've lost about 32 pounds. I feel great physically, on puréed/mushy food for one more week and two days. I've been exercising every day and my calories stay under 800 most days. They are telling me at the doctors office to exercise a little less (!!!) and eat a little more which cracks me up! But I do notice a better loss when I follow those instructions. Looking forward to being released to all food--the purées don't keep me full longer than 2-3 hours.
  23. On surgery day I was 243 now I am 223 so 20lbs down. I been going to the gym 5 days a week and now it seems like my wieght is stuck is it because I'm working out? My surgeon said I'm doing great because my starting wieght was 260. I'm just scared it's not going to work and I will never get under 200 lbs.

    Hair loss?

I'm only 2 and half weeks out. And I'm just curious about hair loss. When does it start? How long does it last? Any suggestions on helping with minimal loss. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
