Any revision surgeries on here?
rsbirmin replied to rsbirmin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did gain some weight back but not enough to qualify. This is considered a complication and therefore not coded as a gastric bypass. I hope I can get the weight I put on back off though. It’s about 25 pounds. Small in the big picture but feels significant to me. -
Just got home, and thought I'd write my experience in before I knock myself out with more painkillers. Post op recovery was intense, but once they administered sufficient painkillers, I wasn't too bad. But this surgery is quite painful and the laparoscopic incisions look and feel like stab wounds so they're pretty tender. When my surgeon got in there, he discovered a large hiatal hernia I had no idea I had! He repaired it, so I pretty much had two surgeries for the price of one. The hernia explains the GORD, so with it fixed and the antireflux hitch stitch, I shouldn't be troubled by it long term. But I have extra abdominal tenderness from the repair as well as the Omega Loop. The bypass went well, and I've had no trouble sipping water to get my fluids in. Absolutely ZERO interest in food of any description, no hunger, I just have to automatically sip throughout the day. I can walk short distances. I'm still very much needing to crawl into bed.

Looking for suggestions - Need to decide to resleeve or bypass
Sunnyway replied to Tufflaw's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
If you have GERD, RNY gastric bypass is the preferred revision. It usually cures GERD. -
Hi! I just signed up with Bariatric Pal, so I'm unsure how this works! I am not tech savvy! My surgery will probably be scheduled for October or November. I have fulfilled my six month insurance requirements and have gotten approved! That is, if I don't back out of having it! I've worked so hard getting here, but now I'm unsure and dealing with some other personal issues that may affect my decision! I go back and forth with it every day! I'm 65 years old and have been obese for about 20 years now, so I still remember what it is like to be thin and miss myself! But now, it is more for health reasons that I must do this surgery or lose weight on my own! I was 259 when I first signed up for program. Now I am 229 after 6 months on diet.I did great the first three months, but it gets harder because I do not like vegetables and I do not like to cook, so I am not eating as well as I should. This high protein, low carb diet is supposed to be for life, so I'm worried about sticking to it! I'm more scared about complications after surgery than I am the surgery, although I don't like the idea of that either! Im questionsing why I'm getting this done, since I did lose some without it. Will it really make it easier because I won't be hungry? Or, will I just get sick if I eat wrong or too much!! Good luck to all y'all!

I’m nervous. I am one week post op. I have been passing gas but one I almost farted but at the last minute realized it was diarrhea and almost pooped myself. I had a distal gastric bypass which is similar to the duodenal switch with malabsorption. Will this get better? I’m really afraid of becoming incontinent

Any October 2021 Surgeries?
LisaBertone replied to devotion's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Are they doing the band removal at the same time as the bypass? I had to have a lap band removed also but he had me do them separately and wait some time in between 🙄 -
I just got bypass surgery date: November 2nd! I’m also so excited! Good luck 🥳

Hi all, I had VSG back in 2014, and have been good. I developed bad GERD and am converting to bypass on October 1st. Does anyone have experience with this type of surgery? I would like to lose my remaining weight too, but don’t know how much a conversation will actually help you lose. Not having regurgitation will be with all of it though!!

If there is one common phrase that I have heard through all these years from WLS patients... It is "I wish I did it sooner." I echo that as well. I really wish I did it in my 20s except skip the lap band surgery because although I lost a ton of weight, it caused me years of esophagus problems. I would have gone straight to the sleeve or gastric bypass. So I think so. You have a wonderful and great start. Far better than most. You are on track and that is so admirable. Cheers to you, and good luck either way you decide.

Any October 2021 Surgeries?
JLynnWilson replied to devotion's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hello! I'm Jennifer from Charleston, SC. Having Gastric Bypass on 10/4/21 as a pseudo surgery for severe Gastroparesis. This is also supposed to help with my hypertension and diabetes. Super excited to start feeling better! -
Hi everybody, Sorry I didn’t update sooner, I had a little bit of a harrowing experience. But... it’s done!!! The surgery is done!!!! Friday morning I was the second surgery of the day. While I was in pre-op I heard the nurse telling another nurse that they were diverting the rest of the days surgeries because of no more beds. I barely eeked through. And my heart goes out to those who were canceled on, I know that devastation and anguish. I woke up from a fairly quick surgery in a TON of pain. I had spine surgery this year, I had sterilization surgery last year, I’ve had meningitis, broken multiple bones and I’ve birthed two babies. This easily hurt more than all of that. I had iv pain management for about the first 12 hours, then was switched to oral tyelenol and norco. The second day, they noticed that my heart rate would spike every time I stood up and my blood pressure was dropping and they determined that I had a staple-line bleed. So, I needed a blood transfusion and they stopped the blood thinners that they give you to prevent clots and started me on vit k. Right around this time I started dry heaving (I had been nauseous since waking up), and I spent the entire night trying to vomit up whatever wasn’t actually in my stomach. The next day was better. My surgeon discontinued the norco because he wanted things to get moving and I was refusing oral tyelenol because I didn’t want to throw up. Even with absolutely no pain meds on board, the pain was SOOOOOOOOO much better. I was able to start eating my 1 oz portions. They kept me one more day because all of that blood that I bled had started to “pass”, don’t ask 🤢 and they wanted to check another blood count the next day. So this afternoon, after four nights in the hospital I got to come home!!! So, it was NOT an easy process, but I would absolutely do it all again. Now I’m just settling down to recover, hydrate, and learn a whole new relationship with food.

Hello everyone! My surgery date is 10/8 - from the band to the bypass. I am extremely nervous for the procedure and scared of this to not working. I am vegan so the food options also worry me and not getting enough of everything I need. Good luck to all of you and I would like to hear more of your stories post surgery.

Hello!! I am 3 months post gastric bypass surgery and I’ve lost 35lbs. I am so disappointed!!! Clearly I’m a very slow loser and to see the scale fluctuate it’s crazy! I feel like my surgery was a failure

I am curious as well and will be converting from lap band to a gastric bypass. So I am looking for information on anyone who had a revision.

I’m hoping I’m not alone with this, or someone has some kind of advice. I had a gastric bypass and I’m now up to the puréed stage of the diet, but I’m really struggling. The food itself causes no issues, it’s the thought of the food that I can’t handle. Every time I think of puréed food, what I can eat, that I need to eat, anything to do with it, I feel so nauseous. I never had this issue with the liquid stage, it’s just the puréed stage, and because of the nausea I’m not eating enough. Has anybody else experienced this? If so what did you do? Is it just a case of forcing food down when I can and getting through this stage? I know it’s a bad idea to rush to the soft food stage but at this point I’m considering it because the nausea is driving me insane and I don’t want to end up ill. Any help would be seriously appreciated!

Looking for suggestions - Need to decide to resleeve or bypass
Lynnlovesthebeach replied to Tufflaw's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I wasn't a sleeve but my insurance only pays for one surgery so I felt I had to make the best decision the first time. I knew there would be no revisions. I finally decided since already had severe GERD the RNY gastric bypass was the right surgery for me. My doctor asked about a DS and I decided I didn't want that. I've never regretted my decision. -
Looking for suggestions - Need to decide to resleeve or bypass
catwoman7 replied to Tufflaw's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I wasn't a revision, but I chose bypass from the start because I had GERD pre-op. I'm still happy with my decision and i'd make the same choice if I had to make it today. As you said, bypass usually (not always, but usually) greatly improves if not outright cures GERD. Sleeve has about 30% risk of making it worse. I didn't want to take the risk. -
I am scheduled for bypass on November 17 I am both excited and nervous. I wish I was having it tomorrow

Hello, This is my first time writing anything on here so I hope I do it right! So I had my mini gastric bypass on the 18th of August 2021 and since then I got my period twice and both times it lasted 8 days! and there is one week break between them and my actual period ended on the 12th. so that's 22 days of bleeding in one month and a half. I know these things can happen post-op but the weird thing is my last period ended on the 15th of September and I just started again 4 days later!! I'm very worried and confused tbh... If anyone knows if this is normal or not please let me know or if you have any suggestions on what might help.

Looking for suggestions - Need to decide to resleeve or bypass
Tufflaw posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my original sleeve done in 2016, went from 290 pre-surgery to 195, felt fantastic, no problems at all, they even invited me to have my picture taken for the doctor's advertising! Then I had some personal and professional problems and managed to gain EVERYTHING back. I met with my doctor and he recommended revision, which I am scheduled for some time in November, currently getting my clearances. He said after my endoscopy we'd discuss whether to re-sleeve or convert to bypass. He said if my sleeve was still intact it would have to be a bypass, but if it was dilated I could choose. I had my endoscopy last week and the sleeve is indeed dilated so now I have to make a decision. Another factor is I've had GERD for over 10 years and take esomeprazole daily which helps a lot but I've heard it's not great to take that forever either. I've also heard that bypass usually cures GERD, so that's another consideration. I'd love to hear thoughts from anyone who has either been re-sleeved or converted to bypass so I can have a better understanding of both options before I meet with my doctor again, Thanks! -
Hey Guys, I am getting surgery october 1 and I wanted to ask what are the things you had or wish you had in the hospital or at home right after surgery to make things easier? Thank you in advance.
