    From the album: A progression!

About a year or so ago, had just entered into three hundred pound territory. After around the time this picture was taken I was not so thrilled to have my pic taken any more so very few full body shots exist.

    Blood Clots

Just keep moving. My clots pre-op were from inactivity. Try to get in 30 minutes of movement per day, with at least two or three minutes of moving around per hour. I took a 3,000 mile driving trip in October after surgery in August. My doctor recommended that I get out of the car at least every hour and walk around. No clots.
  3. At 13 days post op and in the puréed phase I finally felt normal, I was able to get in a Protein shake for Breakfast, Greek yogurt for lunch, string cheese around three, and two bites of puréed chicken around 7. However, I woke up the next day and hurt with every sip I tried to take, this is so frustrating!!! I need to be back at work but do not have the energy and I know this is because I'm not getting enough food. Has this happened to anyone else? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    gas pain help!!

Gas X doesn't really work since the gas isn't in your stomach it's all around your internal organs. The best thing I found was to take tylenol and put a heating pad on my shoulder while lying down and then walk and move a lot. It helps dissipate the Co2. It is miserable but it went away after day three.

    Pain when I eat

Where is the pain? Stomach? I know (in three weeks as well) I get pain in my side and/or stomach if I eat too much to fast. You get kinda cocky. It reminds me to slow down.

    Fill/Unfill Pain

Hello everyone! I was banded three years ago in April. I just had my first unfill because I was getting HORRIBLE heartburn and couldn't keep much down. He took out 2cc's and unforutnately, I gained back some of my weight. I got refilled yesterday but cannot keep anything down, including water. I'm back up to my 7 cc's, where I was before, but it feels so much tighter. Has this happened to anyone?

    6 weeks

Tell me your 6/7 week stats and what you're eating/ate! Would love to know. I'm in a stall right now. I've been in a stall for a while. I'm doing okay though! SW: 264.4 CW: 231 I'm tolerating everything fine. Can really feel restriction now to an extent. I wasn't the first 4 weeks which scared me. I'm tolerating all foods and trying all allowed foods. Which is everything right now. Minus the obvious. Today I went to taco Mac. Got three roasted wings down. Was stuffed as a goose. Crazy I used to eat 10! Tell me about where you were/are at 6/7 weeks post op Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Depression

The first 4-6 weeks were tough, was thinking I was going to melt overnight and when it wasn't happening it was depressing. Three months out now and doing and feeling great. It will pass.

    Bad heartburn

I am over three years out and having been taking Prilosec from day one. To this day, if I just miss one dose, I am miserable. My surgeon was the one who advised me to take it. I have tried other, cheaper brands, but Prilosec is the only one that works for me. Sent from my iPad using VST

    Morning Dread..

I take my Vitamins throughout the day. I have three chewable multi and 2 Calcium chews (love them!) and a weekly b-12. I take the multi-vitamins with my meals and the calcium in between. Sounds like you take a lot., Why so many and all at once?

    Bad Breath

Yep! It sucks when your kids tell you that your breath is bad. I was wondering if it goes away, and boom three weeks post op it went away. I still feel like I always need to brush my teeth though. Tamara
  14. I'm 18 years old. I've been overweight since I was little. I've come to the conclusion that I am obsessed with food. Any diet I've tried (and believe me, I've tried them all) I would give in and cheat. I'd fail miserably every time. I couldn't be in front of food without having any. If someone were to ask me if anyone wanted "seconds" I'd be the only one to say yeah. At a buffet I'd go up three or four times. Anyway.. 2weeks ago I started my liquid diet (pre op diet). And let me tell you how proud I am of myself. I did not cheat once.I had a "last supper" three days before the liquid diet started. But since then I've lost a few pounds and only stuck to what the doctor told me. Last week I was at a labor day party. There was sooo much food and I didn't even touch it! I was so happy and proud of myself because I didn't see where this self control came from. But to be honest, I was just in the kitchen and I was sooo tempted to get a bag of chips. And I even went to eat slices of cheese. I had the knife in my hand and I was ready to give in. But it instantly hit me that my surgery is on tuesday!! I've been waiting for this for 5years. I couldn't bring myself to screw this up. So I put away the chips and the cheese and got a jello instead.
  15. Hello everyone. My surgery date is October 31st which is Halloween, anyways I have three girls ages 6, 5, 1. Last night my oldest kids were saying how excited they were to dress up for Halloween and asked what I wanted to be on that day. Well I told them mommy won't be able to go because she has to get her tummy fixed at the hospital. They hugged me and said it's not going to be the same without me and to wait until after Halloween They then asked me what's wrong with my tummy and started to cry so I had to explain that I'm doing it so I can be the best mommy for them and be healthy so I can run around and play with them without getting tired really fast. My 5 year old then said "are they going to make you fly and jump really high too and she was a tad bit disappointed when I told her no. I feel really bad for missing out.

    I totally freaked out!

Hi AET, I did the same thing. I went in May to see my surgeon. Everything was in place for me to get my surgery. I just couldn't get my head around all the voice in my head telling me I was smart enough to lose weight on my own and didn't need to go to such extreme measures. I cancelled everything and gave myself until my surgery date to start losing on my own, I had big plans, I really did! I don't even have to tell you the outcome. Three months later and not one pound shed, not one trip to the gym. Now, we are all concerned about having surgery. It's not something to take lightly. The question is: Do you trust your doctor? If not, then find a new one. If you do, then talk to him or his staff about your fears. You aren't the only one having them. Secondly, this proceedure is only a tool. All the other times we have had great plans to lose weight, only to fail because of hunger, or emotional eating, or whatever reason, THIS time we will have a physical barrier to keep us from overeating. We will lose weight. We will have time to adjust our behaviors while we are losing weight. This is a tool to get us over the big hump so that we have the energy to exercise. Here is the truth: someone is going to judge you harshly for having the surgery. It's probably the same person that judges you harshly for being obese. You will not win the approval war, so call a truce on pleasing other people and do this wonderful thing for yourself. Yep you will have scars. Women that have laproscopic surgeries for endometriosos or tubal ligations have them too. I have so many stretch marks on my stomach I dare anyone to find the scars from my sleeve! LOL You will eat again. If what I read is true, you will struggle to eat enough. Will you be able to go to McDonald's and eat a supersized jumbo whatever and down an extra-large soda? I sure hope not. Isn't that the road that got us to this place? The only question you really need to ask yourself, IMHO, is this: Do you desire the chance to make behavioral changes to you life style that will allow you to live a healthier life? If so, the sleeve will give you the tool to make those changes a reality when all else has failed. I have doubts. I have fears. But I have tried to lose weight for decades using every diet and exercise gizmo that comes along. Guess what? I'm still fat. It is said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. I'm tired of my crazy, obese life. I'm choosing sanity. I hope you do too.

    Encouragement

Well, Change, I just have to say that VSG saved my life. I am a whole different person now than I was on August 30, 2011. I've lost over 100 pounds and I'm three days away from 9 months out. Before surgery, I could barely walk from my car to my front door and now I'm a gym rat! With a lower BMI, your results will be even more dramatic, not to mention that you'll avoid a slew of health problems caused by obesity and a sedentary lifestyle. It's always better to prevent future problems rather than treat them after they show up! Good luck! There's a search bar at the top right of the page. Use it freely. We discuss EVERYTHING here related to weight loss and quite a bit that isn't WLS related.

Ayay, This is NOT a diet. This is a lifestyle change. I don't know how far post-op you are, but I'm guessing you're in the 3-5 weeks category. If so, search here for the 3 week stall. Almost everyone goes through that stall and finds that the scale is standing still for a bit. Take your measurements now, so you have something to refer to later, pay attention to how your clothes are fitting as well. Are they looser? If you did take pre-op measurements, are you losing inches? I lost my first pants size during my 3 week stall. I put them on, zipped them up, and they fell to the ground! I'm not following any diet except: 70grams of Protein and 64 oz of Water per day. I don't track calories, carbs, or anything else. I have started adding in more "good" carbs because I've upped my exercise routine, but that's about the only time I worry about carbs. Stalls will happen, but they happen because your body needs the time to adjust to the changes. I shape-shifted in the last few months, losing a good bit of mass in my hips and thighs and developing muscle definition in my arms, tummy and thighs. In that same three months, I lost 10 pounds. Now my weight loss has started up again, but I imagine that I'll go through another shift in a month or so. The best advice I can offer you is this: Don't let the scale run your life. Weigh less often and concentrate on your protein and water goals. The weight will take care of itself. Add in some exercise, even if it's 5 minutes on the treadmill or exercise bike. Once it's part of your routine, you'll miss exercise when you don't do it. Good luck!
  19. Do you not have insurance because you can't get coverage? If so, I would encourage you to look into PCIP. It's the pre-existing health insurance that was put in place in 2010. I was without insurance for ten years since I work for a small company that didn't offer a plan. After a gallbladder attack, I tried to secure individual insurance but was denied because of my weight. You can get this insurance if you live in a participating state, have a pre-existing health condition or have been turned down for insurance and have been without coverage for at least six months. It's age rated. I'm 51 and pay $306 a month. You seem much younger so your premium will reflect that. The plan I chose has a $2,000 deductible and a $4,000 out of pocket maximum and yes, it covers the sleeve. I had my gallbladder removed in February so that and a couple of other procedures met my deductible. I have been able to get my septum corrected and am scheduled to be sleeved in three weeks, all at no additional cost. They do require a six month monitored diet and either a BMI of 40+ or 35 with two co-morbidities. Good luck!

    3 weeks out...at a stall!

It's the week three stall! Almost universal! Do a search for it here and relax it passes :-)
  21. Let me just say, while the holiday season has been wonderful with my family, it has been horrible on the scale. There was one big obstacle to my goal weight/size this December and that was a stupid fall I had in my kitchen. I turned around and stumbled backwards after tripping over an open dishwasher door and BAM, concussion. I waited 9 days before going to see the doctor, but the headaches and general fuzziness was just too much and I had to get myself looked at. Don't you know I had a moderate concussion and was told to stay home from work and was put on "brain rest". OMG, so boring and going to the gym was completely taken off of the table. The concussion on top of the never ending food parade in our family, I guess I should be happy I only put on 3 pounds. I was supposed to wait until 1 January to start working out, but I am feeling MUCH better and I have been doing light workouts for the last three days and I feel fantastic. I guess I'll just put my nose back to the nutritional grindstone and keep hitting the gym. Basically, get back to do what I need to support my healthy living goals. I had my first fill at the end of November and I felt absolutely NO restriction so I'm going back on the 22nd of January to have another fill, hopefully this one will put me back on track because honestly, I'm damn hungry. I'm craving crunchy anything. Does anyone have any suggestions for crunchy Snacks. I'm turning orange, no I'm not really, from eating all of the carrots that I'm eating. There is a lot of other stuff going on, just like everybody else's crazy life. The one big thing is that the Army has chosen to move my husband from Ft. Campbell, five hours from home, to Ft. Lewis, Washington, which is a stupid long plane ride away. He has been at Ft. Campbell for almost three years now and I've been spoiled and frankly don't want him to be so far away. I'm struggling not to fall back into old habits like eating because I'm sad, it is sooo hard not to eat, especially since I'm hungry. Arghh. Thanks for letting me vent, time to put on my big girl panties and go on with life.

Thanks. Sorry it has taken so long to answer. Computer problems off & on. I am now down 89.5 lbs. You're welcome to visit on my porch anytime. I wish you could see all of it. It is a very long "L" shaped and is pretty wide. I have flowers, lots of different seating places and a three tiered fountain in one corner surrounded by ferns.
  23. Hi! I will be three weeks out Tuesday and am in the "soft foods" stage. Is anyone at this stage eating salads? I'm getting hungry for one; funny I never enjoyed salads that much before I was banded. I am about "softed" out..........Thanks.

I spent the first two-three days after surgery vomiting. After that, I'd get an isolated dry heave 3-4 times a week for the first month or so. All I can tell you is to hang in there, and it will go away.
  25. I had to find a primary care since I didn't have one near me. Luckily she worked with me and wrote a letter stating my need for surgery in order to get approval..... I also had to do a three mo supervised diet with PCP and the surgeons nutritionist. In my opinion if my doctor was not supportive of my WLS decision then I would find another doctor. After all, if we hadnt tried diet and exercise numerous times before then we wouldn't have come to the drastic decission to have the surgery in the first place. Majority of people that opt to have WLS have been obese the majority of their lives much like myself. And this is a long journey and if you don't have your doctor on board with your decision then it's in your best interest to find one that is, this is a stressful process and you don't need the added stress of someone you will have to work so closely with not being supportive. Good luck with the doctor and know you can always turn to this page to find people just like yourself to help you along the way!
