I have a strange question .... For about the last 3 months ... I've been having this feeling like my stomach is eating itself ... Is that the new "hey I'm hungry" feeling? It's quite the feeling ... And I'm probably not explaining it right ... But I have a Protein shake for Breakfast between 7am - 8am ... Then about 10:00 - 10:30 that feeling starts ... so I'll have a handful or 2 of peanuts ... Seems to quiet the monster ... I eat a P3 around noon .... Usually around 3:00 it starts again ... sometimes I'll have a handful of peanuts or a yogurt ... ( not always ) Between 4:00 - 5:00 ... I have another Protein Shake ... Then dinner when I get home around 6:30 ... usually a hot dog ( seems I have an obsession right now ) I mean seriously ... I think about it all the way home ... Night snack is usually 3 bites of a Protein Bar OR a SF fudgesicle ... So I'm thinking the feeling IS the new "hey stupid, feed me" feeling ... Does anyone else have an opinion / advice ?

Every protein shake I have tried tastes terrible to me. I am almost a week out. Anyone have any good suggestions? I have been eating cottage cheese, Greek yogurt and soups that are all liquified down, but really struggling to get my proteins and water in. My mid-back aches and I just don't feel hungry. I am starting to feel a little weak. I have only urinated twice today. Anyone have any good advice?

Question for newbies and vets?

Soups or scrambled eggs if you have to order food anywhere. Cottage cheese, yogurt, etc. if you have a mini fridge in your room. And then just lots of protein shakes! -
Been MIA.. Heres an update- protein drink, new surgeon new surgery date TBA
MrsB2007 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thought it was about time for an update! Long rant...Heads up! Completed ins requirements Dec 2014 & approved by ins the first week of January. Wooo hoooo! NOT! Surgeon changed hospitals so he is currently doing ZERO surgeries. My luck, right?! I waited and waited.. Now, 2.5 months after approval still no surgery. I went to another surgeon. Their office submitted all of my documents again under their name. Insurance cannot just change their info over to another DR.. They have to open an entirely new case. Its okay.. The first go around only took approx 3-4 days to get approved- cross your fingers that its the same this time too! In the mean time, I got started on buying Protein drinks. I tried some powder stuff. GROSS! I am sooooooo bad with textures of foods / drinks. I tried mixing it with greek yogurt. Nope. Gross. Tried super cold Water. Nope. Tastes like old milk-literally. Thats a sure way for me to lose weight though-- I will throw that crap up with a quickness. I did find Isopure through GNC. At our local store it was $5.50 per 20oz bottle (zero carbs, 40G protein) OR $40 a 12 pack. There are a few different flavors to choose from too. I poured half of the bottle into a water bottle and mixed it up. To me it tasted like kool-aid without sugar & super watered down. I can actually stomach it. I suggest trying a single bottle if you are afraid of spending $$ and not liking the product. I wasted $$ on powered stuff and I'm glad I found this Isopure stuff! Oh! I have also read a few posts lately about commodities (or lack of) and weight gain during supervised diet. Let me give you my advice as I should have listened to other people when they were telling me the same thing.. Every insurance is different. Call and speak to a rep from the insurance company. I found that sometimes they are very vague with requirements though. But your DR knows what will and will not work to get you approved (typically). My insurance normally denies people if they gain so much as 1/2 lb. HOWEVER, per somebody here's suggestion, I found a loop-hole. If your Dr documents a reason for a small gain you should be okay. For instance, I could not exercise at a normal rate for awhile due to my foot pain. Then my GYNO put me on the Depo Shot for my endometriosis. Gained weight then too. Documented. Then I had a hysterectomy and was out of commission for exercising all together. Documented. I gained 6lbs roughly during the 6 month period. Still approved.. But like I said I made sure the DR noted it all on the surgery paperwork. As far as commodities go... Some insurance companies have OTHER comorbs aside from sleep apnea, high bp, diabetes, high collest, etc. I fact, there could be as many as 30+ that could qualify you. I dont have ANY of those typical commodities. I was just pre-diabetic with a few other medical probs but not the typical that qualify for surgery. I only just recently ( after 1st ins approval ) was diagnosed with having edema. Aside from that, I am perfectly healthy for being so over weight. When I spoke to my ins company I specifically asked if those typical conditions were the ONLY ones they accepted and they said yes.. However, I did have those and still got approved. Anyway.................. Hope this has helped some of you! -
I am eating roughly 1100 calories a day. Is this normal I feel as if I have stretched my stomach already. I Followed the diet, and started eating soft solids, but I feel that I can eat too much comfortably. I have not experienced any issues like most others. I don’t have to eat slowly as I am able to eat fast with no problems. i can eat a 5 oz yogurt in one setting in probably 5 minutes. I have lost 12 lbs in 3 weeks. I believe that i will be the exception. I’m terrified right now I think I am eating too much. anyone have this problem or am I the only 1?

I am 5 months post-op and am struggling to get over 800 calories a day.. nutrirtionist told me I should be consuming 1100-1200 calories a day.. I can eat a 5oz yogurt in one sitting too but it takes me 25 min or so to eat it.. once I’m too full I get hiccups. I would just try to eat slower if I were you. There are times I feel like my stomach can hold more too but I definitely don’t over indulge like I used to!

Should I be measuring intake during full fluid stage? I can "drink" a whole can of Campbell low fat soup made with water and blended in magic bullet. It does take me about 20 minutes to drink it all, but get worried when people say they can only take in half a cup. Should limit my soups and yogurts?

Feel great but have been feeling a lot of acid today. I am on Prilosec once a day. Took a tums earlier with no affect. Ate a couple bites of yogurt made it feel a little better temporarily but it's back. Any suggestions?

Average Diet Weeks 1 and 2 post op?
Stacy160 replied to cludgie's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Wow, I'm surprised you weren't given any more specific guidelines than that. For me, I had two weeks of liquids, two weeks of purees, two weeks of mushies, then back to regular foods. Right off the bat I was supposed to get 70 grams of Protein a day, and the only way to do that right out of surgery is with Protein drinks. I had a variety.... chocolate, vanilla, a couple of nectar brands, and some Isopure. Counting all of that toward my Water intake, it wasn't too hard to hit 70 grams and get my water in, although calories typically were only about 300-400 or so. Nearly always in the evening, dinner was creamed Soup of some kind (strained if necessary), and my favorite was tomato. With a little dollop of plain Greek yogurt in it, it was HEAVEN after all the sweet proteiny stuff. Purees are pretty much soft solids and mushy stuff blenderized to thickish liquid consistency. Mushies would be soft meats such as moist fish, chicken or tuna salad, ricotta cheese, refried Beans (mixed with milk, can also be used in puree stage)... jeez, it's been so long now, I can't remember everything! I have to say, I was so dying for something solid by the end of the liquid stage, a couple days early I had a slice of American cheese that I'd let dissolve piece by piece on my tongue, and I had a bit of potato soup on day 13. -
Soft foods on my list was scrambled eggs, yogurt, refried beans, stuff with a puree consistancy.

I have United, they are a pain. Keep working on the insurance approval and follow exactly what they want. I started at 370, did my 6 months in which I was definitely expected to lose (modified South Beach Diet for 4 months then I ate like it was my last meal! I stayed at about 310 for last couple months.) My surgery was Dec. 10 lost about 37 since then, My goal is to be under my college weight of 227. I am at 269 this morning when I stepped on my home scale before getting dressed. United wants you to prove to them that you are serious about losing weight and that you will keep at it. They require you to go to Diet Dr. or equivalent every month. It was a great way to get used to bariatric foods. I found I could eat plain nonfat greek yogurt with Peanut Butter powder, fresh fruit, or even diet maple syrup mixed in. I learned how to eat 60 grams Protein a day and to follow a tight diet while walking a bunch. I was worried about losing too much, but that is unlikely. My Dr. told me that if I started losing too much she'd put me on a Golden Corral diet for awhile. I also think United wants people to re-consider if they are doing really well on their own diets and NOT get WLS.

Get a light greek yogurt. The kind I buy (Danon Light & Fit) is 9 carbs and 12 grams of Protein.

Yogurt is only my list from my surgeon, but I don't know how...it has so many carbs!

@@mefosburg @@auntjanny I'm eating baby food fruits, mashed potatoes and gravy, taco seasoned refried Beans, malt o meal, and yogurt so far. I honestly don't know how other people can purée food. I just can't eat puréed chili or Soups even, when I had jaw surgery a lot of people actually puréed McDonald's and other foods....sounds awful to me
-
My puréed list has things on it like malt o meal, cream of wheat, yogurt, mashed potatoes, any meats are to be puréed/blended with broth/gravy and then eaten...so hard to even think of eating meats puréed...lol I'm too picky

Ah, I miss the 4 am Denny's runs after those "19-year-old male with profuse vomiting, alcohol ingestion" 911 calls! These days, when I'm away at school all day, I pack hardboiled eggs, small yogurt containers, Protein shakes, and a couple of wheels of Babybel cheese - Gouda is my favorite, it's quite soft. I don't know if you are doing a low-carb thing, but I also like fruit. Right now, I've got plums and persimmons in the fridge. -
Post Surgery (As in just out of Hospital) Weight Gain
4LgrLife_53 replied to babelfish5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got sleeved on Nov 4th. A lot of gas buildup as well as all the IV fluids coming out in more ways than one (haha). Doing good with no nausea. Drainage stopped from where the drain tube was, and thankfully was able to switch to a normal bandaid instead of the huge gauze dressing because the tape was breaking me out in a rash. Still a lot of bruising around one of the stapled incisions, but otherwise doing great. Get to start having yogurt and applesauce tomorrow (along with other stuff)--YIPPEE--FOOD! -
Just got home... Pain isn't too bad...

I think the gas pains are all gone now. Really, i think it might not have been gas that was causing pain, but rather my diaphram from being blown up. I feel pretty good right now, had an oxy about an hour ago, and have started drinking my Protein 2.0 water. I can tolerate little sips, but nothing more. May wait till tomorrow to try yogurt or pudding. All in all, the Hernia pain seems more than the sleeve pain. Standing up or sitting down takes a lot as it is very painful. But, i'm doing it. Taking small walks downstairs or just down the hallway. Excited to see the weight shedding. I gained 10lbs in the hospital, and have already lost 3lbs from peein. The stomach needles for the blood thinner isn't as bad as I thought they would be. Thanks to everyone for their support on this site. -
Easter is just around the corner and that can only mean one thing...CANDY CANDY CANDY! We have already gathered all the goods for my 3 yr old daughters basket but the hubby has a sweet tooth so he went and bought himself two bags of jelly beans. I am on my last week of liquid diet and then i can go onto mushy foods but its torture to watch my hubby eat jelly beans. I cooked my family barbque chicken and,mac n cheese, and green beans today for dinner and it was torture to sit there and smell real food while i tried to eat soup that looked like something that a Teletubby would eat. I look forward to eating solid foods again but in the mean time i found some solace in fat free frozen yogurt.

My mom used to make yogurt pie--graham cracker crust filled with a mixture of 2/3 yogurt and 1/3 cool whip. You could do that with Greek yogurt for the Protein and sugar free cool whip, or even real homemade whip cream with no sugar or fake sugar. Then just eat out the filling and leave the crust while others eat the crust. I like to make it with Key lime yogurt and it's a mock key lime pie!

I've got the same thing. The only protein I can drink is Unjury. And the only meal replacement I can drink is Chike (it's got 23 g of protein). And for another minus- I'm allergic to soy, so I gotta be extremely careful. Sometimes yogurt will help with the allergy as well. But you can't have that pre op.

In my diet packet, it says to start a full liquid diet on day 3. So, according to my instructions, I'm allowed Protein shakes, yogurt, creamy Soups, that kinda thing. It says always do a Protein Drink first, at least 2 a day. I've only had one so far and it took me 5 hours to finish it. Now just the thought of drinking one makes me feel kinda sick. The gas-x strips aren't really helping either. That taste is just totally grossing me out.. I haven't even really been into the popsicles or jell-o either, so pretty much all I've had is Water. I think it will be ok, just because I've seen a variety of different pre-op diets posted.. some don't start full liquid stuff till later. I know protein is really important though. Honestly, I think I'm kinda scared of losing my hair.. which is why I feel so compelled to go ahead and push myself to do it. Realistically, I know it will probably take longer than 2 weeks for that to actually become an issue. Walking hasn't really been too bad for me. Course, I say that, but I haven't really started doing anything more than just leisurely walks yet. So far I've just been doing a couple laps around my apartment parking lot. I've also been making excuses to go to Target or the mall a million times to wander around. I have a fitbit which tracks how much I've walked and I've tried so far to get at least 3000 steps in a day. I think once my incision pain gets a little better and I feel more comfortable getting sweaty, I'll start increasing my pace. It's kinda weird, but for me.. the fact that I've spent so little time eating has made me feel pretty restless. The good part about it is, it makes me want to get out and be more active instead of just sitting around and stuffing my face! How's your walking going? Are you having any issues with pain still?

For me soft foods and mushy were the same thing so I am not sure what you should eat. Mushies I ate tuna, flaked fish, beans, refried beans, scrambled eggs whisked with skim milk, greek yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta with spaghetti sauce. Best of luck.

I had the same problem....I switches to Soups and cottage cheese which has twice the amount of Protein that yogurt has per serving. Soft cheese and pureed Beans... If I absolutely had to I would still drink a Protein Drink...But measured that out 1/3 at a time ......pudding is good too, not a good habit but will get you through in a pinch! -
Pre & Post surgery food
FatHannah replied to JumpRope's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor had me do each stage for a week or so... Clear liquids for the first few days, then full liquids, then smushies, then food. I would get some Sugar Free Jell-O and pudding. Yogurt, canned fruit (no grapes). Applesauce, broth, cream soups, puréed food (baby food), canned tuna. Various protein powders, low fat milk, sugar free Popsicles... Just some things I wanted on hand! :-)
