asherje replied to wordygirl74's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mine was unfilled for the umpthteen time due to complications 4month prior to surgery, was nice to have most the pain gone but I did gain back another 30lbs. But my revision was Dec 10th & I feel so much better! -
Shouldn't I feel more sick?
KWeilbrenner09 replied to brennafaith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had severe nausea the first two days after surgery. After that, none. In fact, I only take my nausea meds to help me sleep at night. I'm one week post op, so next Monday 12/9 I'll transition to puréed and see how I do! I'm so sorry you've had problems/complications. I had to have revision surgery as well and my insurance covered my surgery. If you are covered under insurance, will they cover it? It is not anything you have caused - just faulty equipment. I wish you the best luck and I'm sorry this hasn't worked out for you. I love my band and have had problems with it, but I wouldn't change a thing. I don't completely agree with you blaming your metabolism and thyroid on poor weight loss. As long as you are taking synthroid (or whatever meds you are on) it shouldn't be an issue. I am hypo too and yes it is hard to lose weight, but it is hard for anyone that is obese to lose. When my thyroid level is correct I have no problem losing. For years I blamed my thyroid on being heavy. I'd tell myself I had a "hormone problem" and continue to stuff my face. I finally stopped using that excuse and admitted that my eating is what was my problem. If you weren't losing you may want to have your level checked. I'm not a doctor, but I do know when my head is the problem and not my metabolism. I wish you the best.

I'm also curious why you had a revision? Thanks for sharing.

Will the sleeve really help me with hunger control?
Becca replied to simonla1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a revision and with the band I was always hungry. I either had one of two extremes: too tight and everything slimed up or I could eat whatever I wanted (usually the second one). Now with the sleeve I have restriction. I can only eat a small amount and I get really really full. There are a few "slider" foods that I can eat more of like popcorn or chips, but I try to stay away from them as much as possible. I have found that I just don't obsess about food anymore. I do have a bit of hunger when it is time to eat, but once I get something in my stomach I am fine for hours. I LOVE my sleeve. I am losing weight (54 pounds in 4 1/2 months). The sleeve is a great tool! -
Anyone else having surgery in December?
mimistar0 replied to ShrinkingButtercup's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
revision from lapband to bypass for dec 9th. I'm excited about to start my 2 week pre op -
I got to that point about 4 years in or so. Nothing I did would get me to stay under the 300 mark. Ultimately, I was revised to the bypass. My surgeon advised me that the Lapband was over hyped and under performed, that 2 of the largest manufacturers have sold off or stopped making new or replacement parts for their versions of the bands. When they removed the band, even though I didn't have any major issues going to the revision, the band was 100% encapsulated in scar tissue and took my surgical team more than 3 times longer to remove it than it should have taken. I'd hate to think what would have happened if I left it in!

I'm scheduled for my VSG in September and have only come out and told one co-worker who is actually very supportive and was sleeved years ago. The others (inluding one who is having a band to VSG revision in Oct) have pretty much guessed that I am either deep in the contemplation phase or am scheduled and they are being a bit catty, saying amongst themselves "She won't be able to do it, she eats all the time", ""She thinks it will be easy but it isn't", "She's going to Mexico because she doesn't really need the surgery" and the like. I know, blow it off and chalk it up to people just being catty -- which is what I plan to do. But, why does it seem that weight loss surgery is a topic people can be just so darn vicious about? I've heard more stories about cattiness in regard to WLS than breast augmentation!

Do you have any chance of having a revision to a different surgery? I think the feeling of "I couldn't have this before but now I can" can cause really big problems, because your current situation likely isn't going to change soon

Out with the Band....In with the Sleeve
janep replied to swanssl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I never had the band - only the sleeve, but I do participate in a couple of forums that are full of success stories with band to sleeve revision. They seem to have been able to accomplish with the sleeve what they weren't able to with the band. From all the posts I've seen I think you will do just fine. Good luck. -
Because my revision to bypass was denied I have deal with my hiatal hernia and my severe Gerd. My Gerd is so bad I'm on at least 4 to 5 different meds and I still wake up throwing up acid. My insurance won't cover anything and was told to treat medically. How do you deal with this? My hernia is ok, I can't breathe very wells and have chest pains but it's there. I knew something was wrong when I went to the gym and couldn't do the elliptical. But my dr told me to deal with it now and learn to maintain it. But how? EVERYTHING I consume hurts
XtinaDoesIt replied to Amo1377's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you also throwing up? Is the pain acid related? Or is it more of a physical pain. I had acid reflux (still do but now I'm also pregnant so there is that) which made everything I ate feel uncomfortable in my stomach. But I didn't experience any physical pain during digestion. A friend of mine developed really bad ulcers and had to get revision surgery which helped for a bit but then the pain returned. Turns out she also had kidney stones which had to be removed. Not sure if you are a woman, but its very common for women to be dismissed my medical professionals. My friend had to keep going to the ER before someone finally took her seriously. They kept giving her IVs and telling her she was dehydrated. -
Hi Fellow April Bandsters, It looks like everyone is doing great, congratulations! I had my first fill in June and finally started losing about 2 pounds a week. Then it stopped because I was hungry again. So, I went in for another fill and it was a big no go. My port has flipped. So, I have to go in for port revision surgery next week. I couldn't do it right away because I work for a non-profit and we were putting on a major fundraising event and I just couldn't take the time off. But, that is done now and I am anxious to have my surgery so I can get back on track. It is good reading the updates and seeing how everyone is doing.

Wow cant afford that long! Man im have to tlk to my surgeon! Sent from my LG-K540 using the BariatricPal App After my lap band surgery. I went back in one week. I'm a vet tech. I'm on my feet all day in and out of cages. Bending into lower cages. At the time I was a little sore and I managed to avoid lifting any animals over like 25#. I absolutely cannot afford to be out for a long time. I'm planning on revising to the sleeve. Cross my fingers I could have surgery if I get approved end of February/beginning of March. I plan on taking maybe 10 days off. I'm not one who is able to stay at home. I remember by day 4 I was bored crazy last time. I probably was lucky since I didn't have lasting pain. Day one I was like wtf did I do I'm dying? Day 2 I was like ok not so bad, and say 3 I only took pain meds because I had bad cramps. After that I may have taken one or two doses of tyelenol. I imagine the pain will be the same this time.

Julie, you went on vacation and still managed to lose, that is awesome! I hope your new plan for the gym goes well. I can barely get myself out of bed in the morning to go to work, let alone work out. Fortunately for me though, I am home by 5:30 so have plenty of time to exercise, fix dinner, help kids with homework and hang out with the family. I had no idea about my port. My first fill went great, he was able to get right in with no problems. On my second, nothing would happen and that is when we learned it had flipped. So, off to surgery tomorrow for a revision. I am anticipating everything will go well. And, he is going to give me a fill during the surgery too, which I am really looking forward to because I need one bad!

WLS with Fibromyalgia and Arthritis of Unknown Origin
JenniferVSG2011 replied to JenniferVSG2011's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am sorry that it has taken so long for me to update everyone. One month ago I was finally diagnosed with SLE (lupus), and also have the fibromyalgia cross over. I have continued to gain weight. I am now up to a 25 lb weight gain, not matter how much I cut carbs, and raise my Protein intake. I am extremely depressed not just because of the weight gain, but also because of the diagnosis. It is really imperative that I lose weight. I have begun trying to be more active, but no change on the scale. I am now considering revision surgery from the gastric sleeve to RNY. I don't know what else to do at this point. I know that it can cause many complications. I am not sure if there is any other procedure that might help, but am trying to contact my original surgeon, as well as some of the best surgeons in my area. Looking for any advice that you ladies might have. I really would appreciate your feedback. Thanks so much, Jennifer -
WLS with Fibromyalgia and Arthritis of Unknown Origin
Serena89 replied to JenniferVSG2011's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was hoping to find more of you out and about in this site! My surgery is Monday (RNY revision from a 16 year old VBG gone awry). I was diagnosed fibro about 5 years ago and was wondering if the surgery was going to throw me into a flare. I had to give up my methotrexate 2 weeks ago and for the next 3 months and I already notice a difference! Any real fibro difference with weight loss? I would try your insurance first. I had an exclusion and went to Mexico three years ago only to have my band fail me and the aftercare is horrible for Mexican patients in the U.S. (I did receive excellent care while having my surgery, though. The doctors really know their stuff. I just can't afford to fly down there everytime I need something.) I know the sleeve doesn't really require aftercare, but if something does go wrong, at least you have a doctor here. They treat you like the plague when you say you had surgery in Mexico! I now have insurance to cover my revision, thankfully. Don't give up! Hang in there! :thumbup1:

Stall at only 6 days post op...Sad :(
prestons_nana replied to grateful-1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It happened to me as well! VSG on 8/21, and down 17 lbs. I am a lap band revision and they say that can be slower. We are just used to diets that never worked, and it's scary thought that I'm the one it's not going to work for! That is why we have this forums so that we can speak up!!! And we always hear about the ones that lose mega pounds the first 6 months. Chin up and keep on keepin on.. -
Gas, bloating, etc. + any traveling for the surgery?
Amforshort replied to kasemcd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Walk walk walk! It sounds stupid and everyone says it! I flew 3 days post-op. Not painful but exhausting. Wear compression socks and move your feet around. I walked so much in the hospital and didn't have any gas pain! I had a band 1 1/2 years ago and the gas pain was the worst pain I had ever felt. So I walked and 2alked and walked. Worked! No gas pain at all. I am not 5 days post-op from a band to sleeve revision. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using BariatricPal mobile app -
Hi. New here also. Getting sleeved 9/14; revision from band. Scared too. Took less than a week to get approved and scheduled. I wasn't expecting that! The thought of having most of a perfectly normal (?) organ removed is a little daunting.....

Had my band to sleeve revision on Mon 9/27. It was interesting to say the least, with the nausea/reflux. But, I am now 5 days out and have the reflux under control and feel almost normal!! But, I am disappointed that I haven't lost. I gained 7 pounds in the hospital (due to all the IV fluids) and have only lost 2 of it since then. Anxiously waiting to get the scale in a downward spiral. I have been able to increase my protein/fluids every day, so maybe I will see a change tomorrow!!! Glad everyone is doing well...we've made it through the hardest part so far!!!! Debra
