    Favorite Food

I absolutley love crystal light so many flavor options and you cant taste that its low cal or sugar substitue and it helps you get your water in theh even have teas and mornong orange juice drinks with only 5 calories per bottle.. Favorite food is hard to say because my band loves to change its mind but chili is great so many ways you can make it and get plenty of protien in I use ground turkey not hamburger because it will not go threw my band and cant get enough grilled chicken because its great with a side of skim cottage cheese or over some veggies .. My taste buds have changed alot there are many things I used to.eat before my band I cant stand now
  2. So the sleep study people called me, and told me I have sleep apnea. NOOOOOOOOOO My surgeon recommends I go back to the sleep center and take another study with some face mask on. Are you serious? Look dude, I sleep 9 hours without waking up at all. I'm never tired during the day. Those people at the center probably recorded me coughing before I went to sleep as "trouble breathing". I snore BECAUSE I'M FAT. All that will go away immediately after I drop 100 lbs... So I call the surgeon's office who says the CPAP machine is OPTIONAL. I don't have to go back, and it won't affect my insurance. Yay! So why did I bother with that stupid sleep study in the first place? But my Aetna surgery requirements form says I need a new sleep study if I lose more than 15 lbs, which I probably will lose 40+ lbs before it's all over. THEY'RE EVIL! I'M NOT GOING BACK! :sad0:
  3. Hello everyone, I hope this is the right place to introduce myself. I had surgery on the 8th of January and am doing quite well actually. I've been battling my weight for just about all my life. A chubby baby and chunky adolescents. My first diet was at the age of 14 with Weight Watchers. My last successful diet was Low Carb. Which i would suppose wasn't all to successful since i opted for surgery. I chose the Sleeve procedure because of the lifestyle i was already use to. Low fat and low carb. The tools i learned with that went well with this tool "The Sleeve". I am almost 5 weeks out and 26 pounds down since surgery. My daily intake is protein first of course and chew chew chew. I was required by my surgeon to lose 10 lbs. through the holidays and was at surgery weight the day of surgery. I'm on track with my supplements and still working ever so diligently on my fluid intake. I usually hit the 64 oz mark but not always. My protein intake is good but still not at optimal. I find eating small meals through out the day is helping with that. I have to remind myself to eat because i generally don't have much of an appetite. I'm in it to win it! I look forward to meeting folks here and getting to know you. I'm sure i'll have plenty of questions for all the Vets here. Perhaps there's something i can share with you in return. Here's to all of us losers. Sincerely Sherri
  4. When I started my pre op 7 days ago, I was running to the bathroom but now it's almost like complete opposite. I'm on protein shakes and clear liquids. I'm trying to figure out if I need to start my colace ASAP. Pain meds cause severe constipation and I don't need that kind of BS after surgery. Any ideas?
  5. Every body is different and I can clearly tell you that it is normal to worry. At first I was like "yeah right lose too much weight" but when I went for my 6 or 7 week visit and noticed i had lost 53 lbs, I started to wonder myself. Then the weight just fell off, I went from the highest of 350 to my lowest of 225 within 6 months. . . but. . . then my body stopped dead in its tracks. . . I held a plateau for 3 1/2 months, wouldn't budge at all. . . it's natures way of letting the brain catch up with the body I think. . . I ate everything but in tiny amounts. . .I didn't care anymore thinking that i was meant to stay fat at 230 lbs forever. . . then I took a mini vacation and when i came back well hell, i had lost 5 lbs. . . the darn plateau was over. . . it made me aware that i do have to watch what i shovel into my mouth and i have to exercise. . i was really happy so now i'm back on track again. . . with the sleeve you will eat small amounts (very small amounts) yes, you can definately get out of control by finding slider foods (mostly carbs, they go down really good) I felt like a kid in a candy store, dense protein hurt, toast and chips didn't, veggies killed me, chocolate and ice cream didn't, but you have to really really want this in order not to let it control you. I was lucky I never gained any weight with getting out of control. . . now i'm back in control, the head hunger is horrible, it haunts me all the time, but you must believe in what you want and concentrate on the goal. . . I hope this helps a bit, most times i feel I just ramble. . . good luck, your going to do great, just like the rest of us. . .
  6. Everyone is so right about the waiting time being a time for soul searching and information gathering. In the beginning, I was going for the Lap-Band because it was the only option that I really knew about. I knew of successful "Banders" that were pleased with their results. After the information seminars and meetings with the staff at my Bariatric Center I switched to the sleeve. The 6 months prepares you emotionally and physically for the changes that are about to occur. I definitely agree, you need that time to prepare.
  7. What protein shakes/powders do you think taste the best?
  8. I'm assuming my new tummy is pretty swollen because I'm definitely not getting in the ounces or calories I thought I would be. I was actually pretty nervous about following the post-op liquids only diet but it's been much better than I thought. I am trying to stay hydrated and not be overly concerned with Protein right now. My liquid diet so far is as follows: Breakfast - 3 oz. of warm tea mixed with 1 spoonful of unjury unflavored Protein powder Snack - 2-3 oz. of Water or water mixed w/ crystal light lunch - 2-3 oz. of warm low sodium chicken broth mixed with 1 spoonful of Unjury Snack - about 1/2 a container of Jell-O, 2-3 oz water dinner - 3 oz. of warm tea (or broth) mixed with 1 spoonful of Unjury unflavored protein powder Water whenever I think of it. Sip, sip, sip! Gas pains are getting better as I've been walking. I haven't walked outside yet because we are having nasty Santa Ana winds today I am following this liquid diet for another 9 days so hopefully it'll be this easy next week! genepha lapband replaced, plication performed 2-7-11 Starting weight 281, I gained 2 lbs. in the hospital so my SW was 283 , Today I weigh 274

    Nothing Fits!

Savers and thrift stores for me as I start to lose and run out of the right size. I fortunately saved a lot of my clothes that were smaller so I can shop in my own closet. Unfortunately for me my weightloss is dragging because these antibiotics are kicking my butt. It makes it hard to get all the fluid and protein in. OH well....last night for those so hopefully I can kick up the totals for water and protein again. Congrats on your smaller closet

I am 11 days post op, I eat 3 meals a day. I get in maybe a tbsp of cottage cheese or a pinky finger size of turkey breast )deli slices thick. 1/2 a scrambled egg . So very small amounts. It takes me at least an hour to get a protein shake down also. Small amours chew and mush. Worry about proteins, water and walking

    Got My Surgery Date!

Good luck! It has been nothing but positive for me. I am two months out and down about 50 lbs! You are going to be full of questions for the next few weeks, but before you know it you will be on the loser's bench. I did the Bariatric Advantage high protein meal replacement drinks for my 2 week pre-op diet. Whatever you drink you just have to remember that you will get through it, and the whole goal of the diet is to shrink your liver so you will have a safer surgery. That was all I though about and cheating was not just not an option. Good luck again!!
  12. Does anyone have any suggestions for protein intake struggles? I have a very hard time getting protein shakes down. I know I need them and I find myself becoming super anxious when it’s time to drink them.

    Pre-op nausea

Thanks Elode. I split my Protein serving in half, with more Water and didn't take Multivitamin. It seems to have helped - still queasy but nothing like yesterday.

    Pre-op nausea

The Miracle whey I got from Mercola tastes awful to me, but the Premier Protein drink is decent, though almost too sweet. Talked to Dr. office about the nausea today and they suggested taking an acid blocker to see if that helps, and if not they will prescribe an anti-nausea med.

    Protein Intake A Struggle

I do better with “thin” shakes that don’t have thickeners. I’m able to sip much more often that way. I’ve also had lots of success with protein jello from bariwise and mixing unflavored protein into jello pudding to get extra protein in.

    Protein Intake A Struggle

I never had a problem with the Premier Protein brand shakes or similar. I like them even better, though, when blended with ice. My favorite is chocolate, blended with ice, a serving of PB2 peanut butter powder, and a tablespoon of reduced sugar Hershey's syrup. The PB powder adds another 8 grams of protein and only 2 grams of fat. Blending with ice makes them more like a shake and less like medicine. I also blend a strawberry or vanilla flavored one with frozen strawberries. No added protein, but it adds a fruit serving. My favorite healthy snack is half a cup of pineapple tidbits (the juice-packed ones, of course), and half a cup of low-fat cottage cheese. I think the cottage cheese is 13 grams of protein.

    Coffee....

I didn't know "no" coffee I just thought no caffeine. I use decaffeinated coffee in some of my Protein drinks and I don't have a problem. Maybe this is something to further talk to your doctor about if there are major concerns about it.

    Heeeelp......

Hello! I was banded the same day. I'm experiencing the same exact things. The gas pain in my shoulders is getting better. I went for a 3 mile slow walk yesterday and it def helped. As for being hungry.. I am starving too! But when I try to take in a protein shake I start getting the hiccups after a few swallows. If you haven't had the hiccups yet.. You're lucky. They hurt! I tried a Greek yogurt yesterday and nothing has ever tasted so good!!! I only ate half and took tiny spoonfuls. I was satisfied. About th tummy rumbling... Dang.. My two year old thought a monster was in mamas tummy! I went out and bought gas x strips and they are amazing!!! Not sure if you've gotten that weird pressure in your chest where you feel like you have to burp, but can't. Whenever I feel that pressure, I tak a gas x strip and it goes away. It has also cut down on 90% of my tummy rumblings. Good luck and keep us posted.
  20. Today was HARD!...... I didn't realize how hard this would be...... I'm gonna stick thru it but I need to figure out how to make these protein shakes
  21. @@MickeyMax95 I'm doing really well. I had no complications and I feel great, though I still get tired very easily. I am not losing as fast/much as I hoped to but I'm getting in 100g of protein and 64 oz of water, as well as all my vitamins, every day. So I know I need to stop being so impatient and just focus and making myself healthy, and the weight loss will come.

    need to shrink liver.....help

I start my pre-op (liver shrinking) diet on monday. 1/2 cup cream of wheat for breakfast, a 1/2 cup yogurt for lunch, and 1/2 cup of creamy Soup for dinner. I also get to have 8 oz of Protein shake and milk over the course of the day. My husband just got banded on Monday and did this 2 weeks of pre-op dieting as well. He lost 10 pounds or so. That is what our surgeon expects. I wish you luck with your liver shrinkage.

Hello New To The Site :)

I had my band removed and 6 weeks later had sleeve. And I think I have had a slow weight loss since of a low BMI, but it has been a steady loss. I usually go 2-3 weeks without loosing on the scale and then loose 2-4 lbs and then again 2-3 weeks without loosing etc. I can tell you though that I have been loosing inches more than the scale moves. So I can't say I am not loosing because the inches and sizes are going down constantly. Now I have not exercised and have not been faithful with my protein intake, so if you step up more than I do, you might loose faster. Good luck!

    Protein Questions

Hey there. I got some info from the internet. For me, whey Protein has a much better taste than soy and its easier to digest and absorb and it doesn't sit in your stomach as long as other Proteins. So, it's probably the wiser choice post-op. If you go to the Vitamin Shop or GNC, they have these whey protein powders that you can make into shakes that taste VERY good. chocolate is the best in my opinion. Anyhoo, good luck and I hope this helps! How does whey protein compare to soy protein? A: Here are some of the differences between whey protein and soy protein. Whey protein is a nutritionally complete protein. It contains bioactive ingredients, like immunoglobulins and lactoferrin, that help support the immune system. Athletes prefer whey protein to soy protein due to its rich abundance of branched chain amino acids and its quick absorption rate. These are important to help repair and rebuild muscles after a workout or competitive event. Whey protein has a fresh, neutral taste compared and will not change the taste of foods you add it to. Whey protein does not contain isoflavones or any other components with potential hormonal effects.
