I have been using the app called "Lose it" which seems to better integrate with Apple Health Kit. Apple health is a database that is included with IOS, apple's built in software. The advantage of Apple Health integration is that the apple watch and other step and exercise data are automatically fed into the app. Plus any other app that queries the Apple Health Kit database can pull up your nutrition intake that you have entered into Loose It. This app has a bar code scanner and has a huge database of products. Really easy to log food intake, set weight goals and monitor calorie consumption and burn levels. WN

I've been on a Bariatric studying binge for the last month. I feel like I could perform the surgery if I had to. I also contacted my insurance company and they said they'd mailed me a copy of my benefits regarding BS so Im glad I'm headed in the right path. Thank you all for responding. Fed BCBS, BMI 38/39, some comorbidities but not the big 4
karoberts17 replied to HopefulInVirginia's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Fed BCBS in Texas and walked into my Bari doc's office with only a BMI of 39/40, my weight of 267 and hypertension. After my first round of blood work they found my cholesterol levels to be a little high which gave me my 2nd comorbidity. Through the 6 months pre-op (I dragged my feet) I was tested for and diagnosed with GERD and sleep apnea. But, had I not dragged my feet after my fourth monthly visit we could've submitted to the ins. for approval with only the hypertension and cholesterol. In the end it took less than a week to get my approval. Find a good dr. with a good staff so you can see where you stand from the very beginning. A good insurance coordinator will tell you if you could qualify early on. If you feel like a road trip Dr.Davenport and the staff at the MCH Bariatric Services in Odessa, TX are phenomenal. Good luck. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using the BariatricPal App -
Fed BCBS, BMI 38/39, None of the top 4 comorbidities for insurance approval
jane13 replied to HopefulInVirginia's topic in Insurance & Financing
@@HopefulInVirginia - I cannot answer that particularly because I had a BMI over 40, plus other comorbidities. I do have BCBS Fed employees. Quick questions: Have you weighed in at a doctors office yet for an official weight? If not ask your doctors office what the requirement is for your height. I would wear heavy jeans, socks, jewelry and maybe an over shirt to help nudge the scale if needed. Are you 5'4"? I ask because most of us tend to bump up to the next inch and if you are actually 5'3" your BMI may be a bit higher. And unfortunately as we age we tend to shrink I was a little worried and was told they could have listed me at 5'7" because I am just under 5'8". You are also shorter as the day wears on and taller in the morning... -
Fed BCBS, BMI 38/39, None of the top 4 comorbidities for insurance approval
HopefulInVirginia posted a topic in Insurance & Financing
Hi everyone. I am new to this forum. I am actually new to this journey. I have finally accepted that I cannot control my weight on my own and am in the process of checking off the boxes for insurance approval to have the gastric sleeve. My main concern at this point is that I will be denied by insurance. My BMI is 38/39. But I do not have sleep apnea, COPD, diabetes or hypertension. I do have osteoarthritis in at least one knee, scoliosis, GERD, prehypertension, and fatty liver disease. Can anyone with a bmi in this range and none of the top 4 major comorbidities share your stories with me, whether approved or denied? I would be especially interested in any experiences with Fed BCBS. Thanks in advance. -

Fat free, low far, light or regular?
FocusOnMeNow replied to FabFemale's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am gastric sleeve and I do full fat everything. In fact, if I am having a weight loss stall, I just eat more bacon and it seems to get me losing again. What I stay away from is sugar, flour, rice and "bad carbs". I do have beans and smashed potatoes (mashed with the skins on) because unlike sugar and flour...beans and potatoes (with skins on) have lots of fiber vitamins (including potassium) and nutritional value (vs the purely empty calories from sugar and flour). Of course I do all things in moderation. Also you should be aware that many "light" or "low fat" or "fat free" items have added sugar or carbs to make up for the taste. That being said I do have a preference for light (not fat free) sour cream and light mayo...probably from years of eating it. Also with the light sour cream I am usually using it in my mashed potatoes with plenty of grass fed (Kerrygold Irish) butter, so there is already plenty of fat. Also since it's hard to get enough veggies I also purée some roasted cauliflower (fauxtatoes) and mix it about half and half with actual smashed potatoes. If you need more protein in your purées you can also use high protein "Fairlife" milk and/or look for "Bone Broth" instead of regular chicken broth (or just add a scoop of unflavored protein powder to the mixture. -

Stepping on the scale.....
anassathalassa replied to Deleted Profile's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Right now I weight myself once a week, but once I go into maintenance I will probably do it every other day to hold myself accountable. Years and years ago I would weigh myself pretty consistently and it helped me stay in a certain weight range. But when I started gaining a few pounds (the freshman 15 lol) I stopped weighing myself all together and 1 year later at my physical I had gained almost 60 pounds! I think I was in denial of gaining weight and not knowing my actual weight fed into that denial. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Weight Loss Surgery: Stand Up for Yourself against the Doctor
Anna Nim replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
I have a history of not taking any BS from doctors. I have switched doctors for having bad staff, stood up to them when I was not really in a strong position to do so (Literally on my back at a charity clinic). YOU are the expert. YOU pay the money, call the shots and wake up with your body. Your doctor can certainly express concern, that is their job..but that is about where it stops. -
you've already gotten such good counsel here - but I just wanted to add that I hope you can get this overturned and not have to do yet another 3 month supervised diet. I have fed BCBS standard.

Well, I currently seen a story about a lady that was pregnant when she had surgery.. Neither her nor her doctor knew that she was pregnant because before surgery they only do urine test which she was too early to detect it. Well well well comes to find out I'm in the same situation and it is killing me. I had surgery on March 29 and at the time I was 2-3 weeks pregnant... Everyday it is hard BC I am sooooooooooooooo sick.. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G750A using the BariatricPal App

1. It hurts if I drink with food in my pouch. The reasons they don't want you to is bc it washes down the foodm, so you won't stay feeling full as long. 2. And 3. You don't have enough restriction. I hate Protein shakes. Don't limit yourself. I, myself make homemade cream Soups. There's a whole wide world of liquids out there. Going a few days without protein protein protein won't hurt you. Low BMI Gastric Sleeve story

Mothers day - having an amazing time with my family and son but as I said I wanted to write this for someone who has a lower bmi... Deciding ..So they can know the feelings you go through. There is a certain degree of guilt Im feeling bc I know this surgery is very optional for me. I cant say the health effects of not having the surgery are worse. Im taking a calculated risk and if something did go wrong Im simply choosing how I feel about my body over my child. even though the chances of sometjing going wrong are minuscule. Wow what a crappy feeling when you're too fat for society and are made fun of, feel unhealthy, and cannot lose weight always hungry, your weight is just going up and up but then are made to feel like you're not obese enough within the obese community. Well. Here's my take; I have a bmi of 31.9. I'm 5'3" and 180lbs and I feel like shit. but I've been worse. 4yrs ago I was 260lbs and I had the band placed. I lost 130lbs. I felt amazing, like I was finally the girl I felt like I was deep down. I could wear cute clothes and had confidence again. But my band slipped after 2yrs bc it was too tight and my fill dr didn't want to take any fluid out he thought I was just overeating and I didn't push the issue. I've gained 50lbs since then in 2yrs. So I'm having the band put back in next week. I'm scared it won't work as well as it did the first time when I lost 15lbs week one and 45 the first month. 90lbs the first year! Well I only have 50lbs to lose so yeah it will be slower but I still hope for 10-15lbs the first month...mainly cuz it's summer and I hate wearing cardigans and longer sleeves bc I hate my fatty upper arms. I know it's not how fast u lose, but if u say u don't want it to come off at a quicker rate, you're lying! So, my point is...if I don't get the band, I WILL be 260lbs again within another 2yrs. I'm not willing to ever go back to that misery and depressed state I lived in for so many years. I only have one body and one life and ppl can say "oh if I only had 50lbs to lose, I'd be happy!" But that wouldn't be the case if you were there. Yeah maybe if you'd already lost a bunch of weight and were on your way down, you'd be glad you only had 50 to go. But you wouldn't be happy and content staying 50lbs overweight and probably gaining more. And it is no easier to lose weight at 180 as it is at 260. If anything it's harder bc the weight comes off faster the bigger you are. We're all dealing with the same feelings and issues. We're unhappy and want to do something about it. Pre op due to be sleeved next month. My dad and aunt said they just do not understand the surgery if I am losing weight on pre op diet. Like have I ever kept it off?? It is my job to take care of myself hopefully they can figure it out. It is not a diet but a complete lifestyle change. Good luck!!! I have been amazingly fortunate in the loose skin area. I was only over weight for about 10 years and I guess maybe genetics helped me in the elasticity area bc the only real bad problem area I'm super self conscious about is my tummy and my upper thighs. never thought I'd post a swimsuit pic on social media but here's one I got brave enough to share a couple weeks ago Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App -
What kind of results are people getting...
Recycled replied to Scottyd1264's topic in Gastric Balloon Forum
This is BS.......Nobody gets weight loss surgery to lose 36 pounds. Something is fishy here. -
Hi Gina, This is jackh in a different account. I apologize if my post upset (as it obviously did) you. I'm sorry for the medical struggles you are going through. My post wasn't directed at someone whose obesity was caused by the kind of medical issues you have. I too am weak but I'm really trying to psych myself in a positive direction with this whole thing. I'm sorry for not being as supportive as you might need because that is what should be going on here is all of us trying to be supportive. I'm a drug and alcohol addiction counselor who runs into a lot of excuse making in my clients and I've run into tons of it in myself as well and I've been conditioned to confront it in myself and in others. So I'm sorry for being too blunt and harsh without knowing the real struggles that people are going through on here. I don't want to be a source of distress for you or anyone else and really want to be supportive. But I also know that sometimes the best support comes from not what we want to hear but what we need to hear. And just venting to vent without looking for solutions and then becoming willing to apply those solutions will get us nowhere because if nothing changes, nothing changes. And for me I know that change I must or die I will. So most of what I post is really directed at my own tendency to bs myself. And if it applies to anyone else then cool but if not then take what you need and leave the rest. I wish you well and I hope and pray that the surgery really helps you with these medical issues and whatever else you need help with.

Hi. I'll be your May 10th buddy. Our journeys seem to have started around the same time. I started my preop diet on 4/26 at 210 and am down to 202. I must admit, I'm concerned bcs I've not been able to get my 64 oz of Water on top of the shakes and Protein bars. I'm not generally a snacker so it's been difficult. I'm surprised however that I have not been hungry or anxious about food at all during this preop diet phase. I've had to get creative to dodge some bullets at some social functions this week but it wasn't too tough. I do find myself lying a lot as to why I can't eat. Lol (I already ate, I'm full, I can't drink bcs I'm on antibiotics, etc). I even held strong against my son's birthday cake. Mother's Day will be a big test. So as I'm trying to stay focused, I wish the same for you. Let's stay in touch. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
